What a jewel of a stove! Very nice video. This is first time I have seen this model being lit and running. Well done! I live off grid and use one of the old made in Sweden kero burners every day for cooking.
What a little beauty! Good memories of camping holidays in my childhood when parents plus tent, 5 kids, two primus stoves and equipment brought from home, and the seaside was all that was needed for a great holiday.
I have one given in 1960 by my father. He used while on hunting. I Used while in Engineering College Indore for preparing tea etc. Really a quality stove.
I never knew this was a Swedish design, my Father used a larger one to make us tea on our holidays in the early 60's; having the original packaging is remarkable and really adds to the appeal
When I was a child every family have one. Alchohol in the little portion on the top to start, and filled up the tank with kerosene. I have one in working condition as antique in my house.
One of the original portable stoves that even artic or mountain explorers never forgot to take with them. I have used this type of stove. It has high efficiency, quickly heats up water for tea or cooking, even at high altitudes. Of course they are now museum pieces. Local versions made of steel are still in use in India despite wide supply of bottled gas as labourers prefer to buy subsidised Kerosene oil from government managed outlets.
lol, my friend, that stove will probably be around and still working long after you have gone from this world :) New replacement burners are still available which says something for the continued popularity of this design.
I used a similar one 2000 until 2005 it was around 50 years old then, hiking and fishing, I chose to carry the extra weight over a gas stove because they are extremely reliable used it in all weather I'm a little older now but think I will buy another for nostalgia and car camping. They really did make things better back then.
It looks in such a beautiful condition. I have my Grandad's old 96 and tried to get it working today, but after multiple attempts, I just cannot get a flame out of the top of the lipstick nozzle. Do you have any thoughts on how I can resolve this please?
Lipstick burners require alot of pressure...you have to pump fast and alot manybe 10-15 times at the same time as meth spirits are still burning...I was super puzzled too but it does really have a nice soft start compared to roares or sielent burners which i tend to light after spirits in the cup do burn out.
A real beauty as eveyone has said. I have a few Optimus and Primus stoves that all need a fettling to one degree or another. Your video is an inspiration to get on with them! I will just pop down to the shops for some elbows so I can render the grease from them. By the by, I have a nice little 00 that still has residue of soem kinf of clear coating on the brass. Any idea what that might be? I would have thought ordinary varnish or clearcoat would burn off. I'd ratehr spend my time using the stover rather than polishing brass!
Beautiful. May I ask, what do you use to polish the stove? Also, what’s in the little can? My stove box has one as well, but it is empty. Thank you. Cheers
The little can was to transport methylated spirit or alcohol to use in the pre-heat. In the vid you saw it being poured into the spirit cup. The burner has to be pre-heated in order for the main fuel ( kerosene or paraffin) to vaporise and burn.
@@walkerhjk & yes I too have this model in use since 1950 & earlier by my forefathers. Still shining. Working since without any repair except washer.. Thanks to that PRIMUS co. of caneda. I don't know still it exist or not?

@@halfinchholes88 thanks! It helps me a lot! Today I was working with the Primus, I repaired the check valve and make a o'ring for the piston, now I need the cup for the alcohol, and I have to make a top to the flame and the legs support. I hope you can understand me, my English is so poor haha
@@halfinchholes88 You mean piercing the gas pipe? It is not covered, the only problem is that testing with water, the jet comes out deviated, I am afraid that when I turn it on it will not burn well on all 4 sides, but I cannot do that until I have the flame plate
I notice the burner bowl is bent in a "square" shape. When I obtained my 96 the burner bowl was also bent to a square shape. I am wondering why people do this. I managed to hammer and re-form mine back to a circular bowl shape and it looks and operates great. Does any one know why some people re shape these to square ?
Due to heating and cooling . I can straighten mine to a circle.... you know. after several heatings, it goes square. I just leave it now. No change in performance.

Jeez. Dont wait till you're really hungry to get your stove ready. Looks more like a museum piece. Very nice.
