NEVER break up with Chinese girl. If you don't won't to meet with her anymore, make her break up with you . All you have to do is to tell her that you have financial problems.
love how you dealt with the random onlooker, a lot of people would've just been hostile towards him but you were very polite and friendly and warm despite being obviously put out. Great example for how people should interact with one another! :)
Agreed, be friendly even if their behavior doesn't match your ideals. Win with kindness! I would love to have seen a chat in chinese with the random guy and get his take on WTF he was doing.
The South African speaks Chinese. He could have spoken more Chinese to the Chinese man so that he would understand what was going on but he did not do that. He could then have translated that for us in the caption so that we would all know what was going on
'that guy is annoying the hell out of me so I'm just going to sit him right next to me...' so funny. What a great way to show off your black belt in human relations. My new favourite channel!
This should be the one video anyone coming to China should watch. Fortunately, I don't know anyone who this has happened to but this is something that everyone should be aware of in the culture here. Excellent work, Winston
If someone takes your passport run to your embassy, never let foreign police take your passport without your embassy's knowledge of the situation. They are you first call always. If they take your passport flee to your embassy. They will diplomatic bag you out of there.
I was living in Nepal and had a law enforcement officer take my passport... I immediately said "Im going to my embassy" and it was back in my hands immediately.
Isn´t the Passport a Property of your Country? I mean in my passport is written "Dieser Pass ist Eigentum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" or this passport is property of the german federal republic...
@Piatequila I had to get a new Passport a Short time ago and asked about that... It's easy to take the Passport away if It's yours but if It's a property of your country they could order the local authoritys to hand it Back. Otherwise it would be a diplomatic incident.
I applaud you for inviting the random guy staring at you to sit next to you. I’m not sure I would/could have done that. It’s clearly shows how different the social environment is there. Sorry to hear about your terrible massage experience. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thanks for being nice to the young guy, he just looked very curious and seemed to be trying to understand your English. Did you talk to him after the video?
What @PintoBlades said, hopefully you spoke some Cantonese with him and made him feel at ease, that would have been the humanitarian thing to do, (2 years later)
Winston, your videos are just great. Informative and entertaining. I'm 72 years old and have seen about 15 western countries but your videos are way better than the travelogues of 1950s thru 2000 US TV. Thank-you so much.
this girl is probably from some not decent families, such as families poor as shit and have bunch of relatives or girls have mafia connections. I believe if he choose to date some girls with a fine back ground, the consequence can not be so extreme.
haha.. the guy staring at you during the video was quite strange. he seemed genuinely interested with no ill intent, despite the awkwardness. very funny!
I've been living in China for the past 7 years, and have recently tripped across these great videos. This one was pretty sobering, for two reasons. First, because the truth sometimes hurts, and it can also be ugly (i.e., the ultra-Nationalism). And second, reflecting upon a few incidents/happenings in which I've been involved, I now realize how close I've come to landing in serious trouble due to both my imprudence and occasional hot temper.
All foreigners regardless of nationality MUST KNOW THE LOCAL LAW. Law in China is not as what you just described. I'm going to explain more and hope it'll help foreigners living alone in China. First of all, you're correct on the fact that local police doesn't like to get involved with a foreigner. Because they have no jurisdiction right to get involved. It's the Judicial Police who only have the right to handle incidents with foreigners. Keep this in mind and declare your nationality right away and request the Judicial Police (it's pronounced "Si Fa Jing Cha" or "Si Jing" for short). Also, since the local police cannot handle foreigner case, your passport will be turned over to the Judicial Police by law. Second, always keep your embassy phone number saved on your phone (all of the embassies representing your nationality in China, cause you might have to try more than one to get through) and know their business hour and emergency contact. All foreign embassies will have emergency contact. At the first sign of police involvement, call your embassy. For extra sense of security, also save the phone number from an allied country embassy. Third, China has civil law just as we do in the US. If you sustained physically injury, go to the hospital and have them check up on those injury and write a report. This will be your evidence! Depending on whether you want to pursue legal action, you'll want to file a police report just like in the US or any other western countries if you want to pursue legal action. This is your second piece of evidence. Ultimately, you'll have to decide whether to get a lawyer and press charge. If your angry girlfriend/mistress/whatever you call her do come after you with police, you might just have to press charge. For 40,000RMB you can get a decent lawyer already. For legal justice involving foreigner, it'll be handled by the superior court than the local people's court. China's very specific about handling issues that involving a foreigner, it must be handled by the higher judicial system that was designated for from the police to the court. This branch of the system is under the foreign affairs branch and are the only ones authorized to handle cases involving foreigners. There are specific law defining compensation for injuries done to the local or a foreigner. In your friend's case that bite with flesh off entitles him to a decent amount payment of around 10,000RMB or 20,000RMB (price varies depending on the city, and that was many years ago). If charges were pressed onto the girl, he has all the right to ask for all compensation, including emotional trauma, punitive damage, etc. just like in the US. Final thought. There's a strange custom in China among young couple in a relationship where the man gives the women these goodwill: 1. relationship establishment goodwill(can be gift, price varies, depends on your negotiation) 2. break up goodwill(can be gift, price varies, depends on your negotiation) 3. abortion goodwill(can be gift, price varies, blah blah blah) 4. divorce goodwill(can be gift, same old blah blah blah) Westerners rarely break off a relationship until their partner found out about the cheating, so use your man charm to reduce as much damage as possible before it gets out of hands. Just like you said that you can't vouch for your friend's action, which leads to total destruction plus now he has to get an attorney. Do not ever underestimate Chinese girls. Competition for a good man is so fierce that they have 10x sharper senses than you do. Always memorize point #1, it'll still get you free and you can make calls for help. Then evaluate the rest of the points above and make a decent decision. It has nothing to do with the girl having some kind of secret agreement with the local police. The local police are more afraid of you as soon as you request for the Judicial Police. Lastly, I know many single man enjoys a good company while living in China. But take responsibility in your own action and not breaking a girl's heart left and right like a Chip'n'Dale. No women from anywhere on this earth like to be cheated, just as is for men. Chinese girls are still very traditional and dead serious in committing to marry you and spend the rest of her life with you. Most of them will send half of the money back home to their parents from the tradition to take care of the parents. Hope this can help for those living overseas, and I truly wish nobody has to run this procedure at all. Learn the local law and culture as fast as you can. Enjoy and stay safe.
I don´t know if you are reading this Winston, but I truly admire you, I really do. I admire the way you deal with such a calm state of mind and serenity all the legal and issues mess, as a foreigner, in a place like China and their narrow mentality. What I mean with is that they can´t even deal with constructive criticism, you can have an idea what Chinese deal with justice.
It's not about western law dumbass. Think of it as an eye for an eye. She literally bit a chunk out of his arm, he will have hospital bills for that and he should not have to pay for it. Also she was in HIS apartment, where she was not invited and was commiting a crime.
actually he can.but legal process could be time consuming and not worth in financial way.frankly I think that lot of money he pay to the girl may find a good lawyer to help him.
My new favourite youtuber, I don't agree on many things you say but it's your opinion and I respect that. I can listen and watch your videos all day. love the way you talk and explain things so professional. Bright future ahead of you. All the best.
The fact that you're an educator is evident in the way you handle you spare tire onlooker. Most people would resolve that issue before continuing, you just add to the group and groove on. Way impressive.
It seems amazing to the guy the way you show your individuality by partaking in a solo activity and occupying yourself alone with a camera is facinating. The share amount of people that stop what they are doing just to pay attention to you says it all.
the anti-social loser who wanted to practice his english never realized he'd become the butt of jokes from packs of fecund amerikan anti-social losers. ironic.
Perhaps. I do know that there are not a lot of members of the Communist party in China, but they do not make it obvious and watch a lot. I learned this in a class I took on China I took in college. I also had two Chinese roommates. They were awesome roommates. We got along great. One night as we were eating homemade Chinese food, I started talking about the third wave and Democracy in China. I also mentioned the 1989 protests. One of my roommates got very quiet and observant. The other roommate was nervous. Bear in mind, we were in America. The nervous roommate said that all that matters is that you eat. I could tell that I was putting him in a bind, so I did not press the issue out of respect for him.
Hi serpentza/Winston, I'm a recent subscriber to your channel and I've been watching your videos for the last few days after I've stumbled across your channel. I find it very heart-warming after finding out that you are a South African living in China because I am a Chinese living in South Africa. I hope I get to meet you one day and chat about our respective experiences in each other's countries.
Know well Sir that you are a great person. I deeply feel your awareness and wisdom. We need a lot of people like you. Please be safe and well, you are loved.
This just goes to show how cut off China is. It's interesting and sad at the same time. It's weird that they cut them selves off are super nationalistic, but then allow foreigners to come. It's like "we think you're lower than us and don't really care for you, but sure you can hang out here". Like why.
I really enjoy you videos as an American born Chinese ! They are insightful and informative. You handled the on looker like a true gentleman. Stay Awesome!
I am sorry what happened to you Winston five years ago. I support you as me as a Chinese man very shame to what's my people done. I will try my best to change all.
If you feel shame for your people then you missed the point of the video. Feel shame for yourself if you are one of the people that he is talking about but if you are not then don't feel shame. You are a part of your people but you are not a representative for all people. I know that some points of eastern philosophy view individualism as sinful and in truth it can be but that is not the whole story and collectivism can be just as harmful (in most practical cases it has proven even more harmful)
+3nien yes, and learn to stay off of illegal foreign websites like RUclips, it's a violation of Chinese law and therefore disrespectful to Chinese people to break their rules and customs.
Any foreigner that lives there should keep a fake passport on hand hidden away so they can get out the country if they need to. They sell them on the darknet. I never thought of it before the Silk Road documentary.
He was beaten because he said to the face of a Chinese that he is a trash race. This is a very offensive racist remark and invited repercussions. Very simple.
***** by this I meant that... you know the joke- how usually when somebody asks for help in sexual matters, they say ''my friend is having trouble in bed...'' not themselves :D
Mr Me - I think he was trying to address the popular scams that take place in Asia against forners, and not his sexual problems, and he does not come across as racist but rather talks about the racism he has experienced.
And I thought only the blacks were experts at twisting the words of a white man. But the solution with the blacks is the tell them straight up that they can twist what ever they want because they know what I said and they can twist their mamma.
I know it is probably not feasible because of the subject of many of your videos, but I liked the local individual in the video. Even though he didn't seem to understand what was being said, it added something like an authentic element.
Dude, I've been watching your videos since yesterday. You have been a great source of information about my curiositie about China. I couldn't express how thankfull I am. But the more videos I watch the more I wonder why the hell you're still there. I understand you sense of adventure. But I couldn't live on that kind of environment, with all the freaky people staring at me, and all this nationalistic nonsense.
if that was the message he wanted to give, he would not be there in the first place, right? It's just a lifes experience and surely not an easy lifes, but a life of choice. if you want to interpret it that way, ok, but dont conclude it into a "message" that wasnt made
That was next level funny shit. Winston has that kind of British humor ( I know he is SA). This guy didn't know he was being punked. Just sat their staring like a bitch. Winston can be so snarky and condescending without the china man knowing. It's very funny
old winston would have been pounded into the dirt if he had stayed in s.a. he never had much class and he's ready to let fly with the chingasos. at least he used to be until muriel took the broom handle to his face.
The random Chinese guy probably has never seen a Caucasian guy or never been this physically close next to a Caucasian guy so far in his life. He was super curious about you, and I also think he likes you very much and wants to be your friend. It is a good thing.
here's my story !! I was speaking to the police in the subway asking for directions when this guy (it was obvious that he was trying to practice English) came up to me offering help and I told him very politely : " I can speak Chinese" but than he got upset and said that I should have thanked him cause that's the right way to behave !! I got offended and said : "what are you gone teach me manners now ?!" or smth like that and the guy started shouting telling everyone "this foreigner is unpolite, doesn't respect Chinese people and was not letting me get directions or anything just attracted a crowd and the police kind of surrounded us for protection ! I kept saying to him what the hell do you want from me go away but he would not let it go so since I was in a rush I got out of the subway and then came back after a while and asked for information again ! that was a scary situation imagine if no police around...! Now some might think that maybe I should have let it go from the start since I know the nationalism problem but the thing was that in 10 years in China never have I seen this kind of behavior towards foreigners and to say the truth that's when I felt the nationalism rise for the first time cause up til then this kind of situation was absurd to even think of so it caught me by surprise...
I have had the same thing on a bus guy sits next to me when I'm totally knackered. Tell him I just want to rest and he starts getting all upset jumps in another seat and starts giving me the bad eye jumping and twitching like hes going to kill me. LoL I'm sure its PTSD from the way they are treated when younger causing a victim mentality. Even speaking German does not work. I now say I'm an English professor $1500 an hour when would you like a class. 4 years ago.
Yes, but he has to get another chinese visa and most likely there would be notification from local authorities to the PSB where he would get a new visa stamp inputted into his passport, thus, causing same scenario.
I thought about it but I think the china's government is not stupid of course they going force the Embassys to get some clear paper or contact with the local police before issuing a y new passport
You will see a shitload of these socially awkward chinese dude in China and America. That is what happened if you study all day and dont go out to experience life.
Ronald de Rooij Wow, what are you calling for? Should we all mass together to plot a genocide against the people of Holland? Is that what you're claiming, Ronald de Rooij? You think you'll survive, but you won't.
Oh man, so much props for keeping up with the talk :D I don't know how you managed to do that with that random guy just sitting next to you for no apparent reason. And it seemed like just another day for the random guy xD
lordeisschrank had a Chinese business associate of my ex boyfriend stay with us in California for a month. He went by the name “Jeffrey”, ironically enough was also my boyfriends name. I asked him why many Chinese do this and he explained that in elementary school they are told to pick a western name.
It's because Chinese has plenty of consonants that are simply non-existent in English. My legal given name is Zongqi, for which the most similar English pronunciation is zth-own-chee, but z and q are technically apical and palatal affricate respectively, neither found in English. There's a neat table on Wikipedia about this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_Chinese#Initials. Ultimately, Chinese is so different from all Latin and Germanic languages, that attempting to use a phonetic Chinese name as an English name just causes more trouble than using a preferred Western name. For example I can tell you verbally my name is James and you would know how it's spelled. But if I said "zth-own-chee" then I would have to spell it out for you every time, and you would have a hard time remembering it. It's easier for everyone you see.
@@scheimong I have trouble just with my simple name Tib, I always have to correct since everyone thinks Tim. I can imagine the difficulty with Chinese. Although I've had that conversation with some of my Chinese friends, I also asked why they didn't use their Chinese name.
At this point without any court testimony this is basically a he said she said story. In the U.S., during a domestic dispute, if a man gave the woman a black eye he would be handcuffed and taken to jail. Charges for domestic violence will definitely be filed. If the woman acted out of control he should call the police instead of resorting to physical violence, which under the law is a no-no. However, there will not be a meeting for private settlement with regards to financial compensation. This would be treated solely as a criminal case. Now, if you are a foreigner living in the U.S., then in certain instances you will find yourself in big trouble by mere accusation alone if an American citizen filed a police report against you even in the absence of physical evidence. The police will come and arrest you, bring you to the police department for fingerprinting and mugshot and then lock you up. Then you will have to appear in court where your fate is at the mercy of the judge. Then days later the immigration department will follow suit. You will be put in orange jump suit, handcuffed and chained like a most wanted violent criminal and taken to a solitary confinement unit of the prison. Then you will face the immigration judge in whom your fate will be determined. Should I be doing a RUclips video on that based on what I had gone through? Nope. Because such anecdotal experience may not be the representation of what is happening in the culture of the whole system of the large nation. It will merely draw out the racial bigots who have no basis except generalized hatred into the comment section.
I am fairly certain that US immigration doesnt even bother with criminals anymore. It used to be that way, after you finished your jail time, they would put an immigration hold on you and deport you. But no longer.
yes she bit a chunk out of his arm, destroyed his property AND he hurt her. All of that happened. just because you don't think something is justified doesn't mean the damage wasnt done. im sure her family was saying the same thing in reverse to the police, ya know? It's about perspective on facts and taking your personal emotions out. Those events happened and then he was extorted. What about that presented in video format was so hard to understand?
Great channel. Random John watching you discuss China. Legendary. Probably not the hardest country on Earth for a westerner to mix in. But still difficult. Just subscribed.
when I was stationed in Korea it was the same way if it was a you versus them mentality they literally gang up on you and you'd be facing 20 30 or 40 Koreans that would beat you up and that's actually the only way that you never get in a fight if it was on the streets it would never be one-on-one they would never attack you when they get in a group they gain Courage
it's because the US military has a really bad image in Korea. I've been to Korea and they told me a lot of horrible stuff about how our military behaves there.
Asians have committed the worst crimes against their own people than whites have , look at the Japanese invasion of China , or china's own communist government . Anyway I have no anamosity towards them or there culture, just stating facts about how that act sometimes when they have felt slighted in some way . We should probably pull our military out of South Korea they are big enough to support themselves, plus just like China they have a habit of blaming the US as a way of distracting their own population from internal problems , a lot of countries do the same thing .
Anthony oliver when did you exactly get beaten up by 20-30 koreans? where did it happen? as a korean myself, this kind of 'mob' behaviour resulting in physical violence is unheard of all my life, unless you encountered some kind of underground gangsters, then I am not too sure. were you drunk, fighting in night club in Seoul? another thing... don't spread rumours that koreans are hostile to America or American. there are tons of people who appreciate America's help during the war and current military Base in Korea and we feel responsible for so many losses of young soldiers, America did not have to help us but America and many countries did it for us. We don't blame America for anything, maybe other Asian countries obviously. quite opposite, we have so much influence in Korea from USA. I am sorry if you personally had bad experience in Korea, but I wanted you to know that young Americans sacrifice was not for nothing here in Korea.
+ykuk glad we're not universally hated, sure seems that sometimes. From my experience, Koreans are the most honest and friendliest people I have ever met, and I am glad our countries are so close. If I may make a suggestion, I think Korea and Japan should bury the past and become friends too.
ykuk don't have any problems with the Korean people I spent 4 years in Korea , and 20 years in and around their culture, the majority of the time we didn't have any problems, but their are always a few times we did .
Honestly, there is something weird with the first story. While I agree with that the girl has the better home base, I usually find that the average Chinese has a very strong sense of 'fairness'. Of course she and the police think it is fair that he pays compensation. But if he and she agreed in front of the police (did they do that?) to a certain sum, then actually I would expect the police to side with him now.
I Have been stalked seriously by 2 different women, I was laughed at by my Principal, Fellow males, Police and even counselors. Til I was either serious injured or, they had a first hand experience with them attacking me or being just completely insane(no way to calm them down or deal with them). I never laid my hands on a women, only blocked or held her wrist while she tried striking me. Ppl don't realize all around the world men have to deal with this and are expected to shut up and take it.
Great video...that dude at the end cracked me up hahaha I've lived in China before and I'm moving back in a couple of weeks. There are pros and cons to everything but China can still be a good place to live if you are aware of certain things
Let me summarize the whole video: 1. Foreign guy cheats on Chinese girlfriend, gets his property destroyed, his arm bitten, however has to pay her 40k yuan. She wants him in jail so to scare him and milk him. Moral of the story: DON'T CHEAT. 2. Mexican girls gets stalked, Chinese authorities don't care, she insisted and got the police guys to call the stalker and stop him. Moral of the story: when dealing with local authorities, INSIST. 3. Serpentza got a foot massage, his friend wanted sexual services but got any and leaves the place, however Serpentza had to pay 50 yuan for his foot massage + the 200 yuan non fuck of his friend. He confronts the staff, insult one of them, the whole China got offended, the mob beat the hell out of him, but police saved him and agreed he was right. Moral of the story: DON'T INSULT A CHINESE. 4. Random Chinese guy appears in the video with nothing to say, but stays making the final minutes of the videos awkward-hilarious. Moral of the story: BE FRIENDLY.
This video is giving the absurd impression that how he acted was the only way to handle this situation, which is quite a harmful opinion to spread. Paying some arbitrary amounts, not contacting the embassy/consulate and not hiring a lawyer is the dumbest thing he could possibly have done! What the police station is doing is illegal because no lawsuit has been filed (clearly according to the details), and the mediator game by police is a well know extortion/corruption scheme here. Obviously, he should simply threaten the police department to involve the embassy of his home country, who are very active in returning illegally confiscated passports, and should have hired a lawyer if they would still have kept his passport.
+Larkhill21 Assistance in such a situation is very specifically a task of an embassy/consulate. We are not talking about legal service here, but the illegal confiscation of a passport which is property of the home country. All the details in the story are indicating that the "police station" is playing the typical abuse of power in it's role as a mediator in private disputes, to which the parties in the conflict may or may not volunteer to listen to according to Chinese law. Paying anything and not contacting the embassy/consulate and not hiring a lawyer is the dumbest thing he could possibly have done! This video is giving the absurd impression that how he acted was the only way to handle this situation, which is quite a harmful opinion to spread.
***** No, that's not "my way", but the only sensible way. Paying some high arbitrary amounts for compensation in this case, is simply dumb. I have no idea what "meals" you are talking about!
Sebastian Till...YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE LAW THERE, It's not illegally confiscated passports WHEN A LAW IS ALREADY BROKEN BY That man. One simple question, DID HE HIT THE WOMAN, YES. LAW IS Broken, not even the Embassy can save you from that FACT. Embassy can save you if you didn't broke any law, but since he started a domestic dispute problem, and get into a moral issue of cheating...Embassy can't do much, they can provide a list of lawyers...but GOOD LUCK...now You paying her family, her lawyer, and your lawyer, so instead of paying her family $8000 US Dollar, you will pay whatever the lawyer is charging you, which probably is at least 10x more than $8000. Going to court, I'm pretty sure the man is going to LOSE the case. Why he will lose in court? Because the whole thing happened because he cheated, it's what started the whole problem, so he's the main source of problem...most Chinese who heard of this story will think the man is in the wrong, so the Judge will have no exception...also if he favorite the Foreigner, then the JUDGE himself will lose his job because he just make Chinese people lose face by saying it's OK for Foreigner to cheat on Chinese woman. Learn about the local culture, don't make foolish mistake, cheating in itself is a moral issue, but it makes lots local people angry, and many of them (especially Chinese man don't like Foreigner taking their woman in country where man out number woman greatly.) So she's backed by her locals and her country. No way he's gonna win.
***** Yeah, you need to show them your passport and try to be cooperative if you want to avoid trouble. However, nothing you have stated is contradicting to the matter of fact that no one should ever settle with the abuse of power by the PSB, unless it's about a true triviality. Contrary to what you (and the video author) believe, the legal system in China is a solid basis to handle matters like this case. A simple call to the embassy/consulate would probably already caused the return of the passport. If this wouldn't have happened, then he could have hired a lawyer for a fraction of the arbitrary blackmail "settlement", which in turn would have forced the girl to either file a lawsuit or to drop the case. A lower degree of rightfulness in Chinese law isn't changing this fact. Contrary to what most people believe, China is not a legal Wild West anymore and things have changed drastically. Samples of cases of injustice don't change the fact that he should have called the embassy and hired a lawyer.
tunmanc Slow down cowboy! You clearly don't get trivial facts straight. The situation he is in now is clearly showing that he should have called the embassy and hired a lawyer, which would have come out much cheaper, because obviously no lawsuit would have ever been filed/accepted in this case. Cheating on a girlfriend and having a minor domestic violent fight without a clear aggressor will certainly not land you in court, regardless what flashy rumors you have heard when gulping down Tsingtao with your laowai mates.
I guess on of the golden rules of living in a foreign country is there are always certain groups of people you don't want to mess around. Apparently, in China, they include girls and dodgy massage.
Girls in China know if they are dating foreign men then Chinese men are missing out. So maybe they expect some allegiance from the foreigner. Also that guy was stupid to hit that girl. She thrashed his place and he should have called it the cost of cheating on her and call it a day.
man i think i can see you get drained by all this, but tough it out. Wow! Amazing how you deal with it. Its amazing that it looks like you're not numbing yourself but able to deal with it. That's amazing!
Listen, all foreigners. Chinese people treat LOVE and FAMILY very seriously. It is not like the western way of dealing with love. For us Chinese, adultery is absolutely unacceptable for both man or woman hence in some areas like Taiwan the adultery is illegal still. Sometimes women may have inordinate actions but it is a signal shows that she cares about you deeply instead of hating you. Love and marriage are heavy. They mean a lot even everything for the Chinese. Once the realtionship is established, be responsible for everything. If you have made any mistake, any rational explanation won't work. So be careful.
Thanks for commenting in a civilised way, I just wanted to ask, i have heard that Chinese men who have wives, do use prostitutes a lot, and it isnt uncommon. To what extent is that true? Adultery by men is very common throughout the world in general, so i cant imagine China being any different. Is it?
thats BS. look at the massage polars, salons with happy endings. thats a total double standard. there are plenty people stepping out if not more in china. sell your confucin hypocrecy somewhere else.
Today I discover this channel, its really more than a VLOG, every episode is like a small documentary. I understand everyone feels discouraged about living in China after watching all the videos but I believe that if you are careful it will be a wonderful experience. To be frank, I thought that things there were far more problematic...
im sure im not the only one who likes watching the intro's more than once haha. Still I think it would help if you/she said welcome to another " Serpentza video " or Wintston or.....such .
I really enjoyed John's valuable contribution to this video
Winston was so comfortably uncomfortable
it made me laugh so hard I woke up my roommate who sleeps on the other side of the flat.
😂😂😂
Bradford Kelly lmaooo😂😂😂
LAMO
hahahaha
NEVER break up with Chinese girl. If you don't won't to meet with her anymore, make her break up with you . All you have to do is to tell her that you have financial problems.
Or say you have some non-sexually-transmitted disease. that'll work like wonders.
Genius!
I thought that worked with all women
YAS!
I did it also in Indonesia. :o))
love how you dealt with the random onlooker, a lot of people would've just been hostile towards him but you were very polite and friendly and warm despite being obviously put out. Great example for how people should interact with one another! :)
Agreed, be friendly even if their behavior doesn't match your ideals. Win with kindness! I would love to have seen a chat in chinese with the random guy and get his take on WTF he was doing.
That stranger stared at him like he loved him lol
I felt the same. I thought it was so well handled that I started laughing at the situation! 😂
The South African speaks Chinese. He could have spoken more Chinese to the Chinese man so that he would understand what was going on but he did not do that. He could then have translated that for us in the caption so that we would all know what was going on
Chris Browne who’s that idiot guy ? 😄
😂😂😂 That guy at the end.... 😂😂 How awkward?! 😅 You handle those situations so well, Winston. lol
There was no problem really. The guy was just curious.
He is very cool headed and charismatic, I'm jealous haha
He was most likely taking an opportunity to study English pronunciation.
lol that is so right. he just wanted to witness some english language in the wild lol
Ninya Great insight. Never would have thought that.
'that guy is annoying the hell out of me so I'm just going to sit him right next to me...' so funny. What a great way to show off your black belt in human relations. My new favourite channel!
i have never seen ANYTHING like it. absolutely fascinating on all accounts!
How you handled that random guy was amazing. You give me hope for the human race. Thank you for being a shining model of humanity!
This should be the one video anyone coming to China should watch. Fortunately, I don't know anyone who this has happened to but this is something that everyone should be aware of in the culture here. Excellent work, Winston
That random guy should be in every video
:DDD
glenn mcquade hahaha he's random af
*Random Chinese guy appears*
@@ArtjomKoslow yep. In my Irish passport it also clearly states, "Property of the Republic of Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade".
AUDE SAPERE do you have to pay separately for a passport in Ireland or does the government provide you one for free?
amazing video Winston! that whole scenario with that guy was so fucking funny
Your "Royal" pride triggers me
It's a Scotland flag.
you know very little son. The police are in on the act. Lol
No, it's the lannisters flag from game of thrones.
No, its the Lion Rampant , a Scottish flag, there's an area called Wester Ross in Scotland too.
I applaud you for inviting the random guy staring at you to sit next to you. I’m not sure I would/could have done that. It’s clearly shows how different the social environment is there. Sorry to hear about your terrible massage experience. Thank you for sharing your story.
That was awesome to see how you were open to let someone who was completely interested in your talk/convo/story sit down and be a part of it
Thanks for being nice to the young guy, he just looked very curious and seemed to be trying to understand your English. Did you talk to him after the video?
What @PintoBlades said, hopefully you spoke some Cantonese with him and made him feel at ease, that would have been the humanitarian thing to do, (2 years later)
Insane Cuckooman he seemed to have tics. If you watch his eyes he has an odd twitch
He looked curious? He looked completely airheaded.
Winston, your videos are just great. Informative and entertaining. I'm 72 years old and have seen about 15 western countries but your videos are way better than the travelogues of 1950s thru 2000 US TV. Thank-you so much.
She bit a chunk out of his arm and he is at fault for hitting her? Not in my universe.
That aside I enjoyed your video.
date a chinese girl date her whole family..
does that phrase include the sex part?
No always true. Some refuse to introduce you to their family
you don't want to do that lol
PathsUnwritten because they know the family will not approve. meaning it's not a good relationship
this girl is probably from some not decent families, such as families poor as shit and have bunch of relatives or girls have mafia connections. I believe if he choose to date some girls with a fine back ground, the consequence can not be so extreme.
haha.. the guy staring at you during the video was quite strange. he seemed genuinely interested with no ill intent, despite the awkwardness. very funny!
FerrisZzZzZ he was probably interested in the English maybe :p
I've been living in China for the past 7 years, and have recently tripped across these great videos. This one was pretty sobering, for two reasons. First, because the truth sometimes hurts, and it can also be ugly (i.e., the ultra-Nationalism). And second, reflecting upon a few incidents/happenings in which I've been involved, I now realize how close I've come to landing in serious trouble due to both my imprudence and occasional hot temper.
Serpentza ...you’re a gentleman and you don’t use much profanity....AKA “nonsense” instead of bullsh&’g! I’m gonna try that...!
There's a strange custom in China among young couple in a relationship where the man gives the women these goodwill:
1. relationship establishment goodwill(can be gift, price varies, depends on your negotiation)
2. break up goodwill(can be gift, price varies, depends on your negotiation)
3. abortion goodwill(can be gift, price varies, blah blah blah)
4. divorce goodwill(can be gift, same old blah blah blah)
Westerners rarely break off a relationship until their partner found out about the cheating, so use your man charm to reduce as much damage as possible before it gets out of hands.
Would a coat hanger be an appropriate abortion gift?
Maybe, if she agrees...lol
0kasede0 Great post!
+0kasede0 been through this before?
0kasede0 Great post!
You're an awesome dude! I love how you interacted with this spectator and involved him into your outro!
Love that Random Chinese dude! Love how you dealt with him, restored my faith in humanity 🙏🏽
From the way you talk to John, I think you are awesome. :D
That random dude😂He probably was just excited to hear someone speak english?
Just watch tv or go to the internet
@@bryanryan4504 It's different in real life. I can hear Japanese all day by watching stuff online but once I heard it in real life I felt excited
so, why cant he demand compensation from her for his injuries and destruction of his property?
Because he's not Chinese
+3nien is it legal for women to destroy property and bite people? or did you not hear that part of the story?
+Rian no, Green Girl is a separate unrelated incident.
+ucef als thanks mate
The fact that you're an educator is evident in the way you handle you spare tire onlooker. Most people would resolve that issue before continuing, you just add to the group and groove on. Way impressive.
It seems amazing to the guy the way you show your individuality by partaking in a solo activity and occupying yourself alone with a camera is facinating. The share amount of people that stop what they are doing just to pay attention to you says it all.
Hahaha that was so nice of you to invite John into the video 😂👍🏽
i am pretty sure this guys purpose is to practice some english
😉😀😁😁
the anti-social loser who wanted to practice his english never realized he'd become the butt of jokes from packs of fecund amerikan anti-social losers. ironic.
In English English it would be "practise".
Yes, but in the US this is the correct way to write it.
Awesome! Glad you enjoy the videos and hope that you stay safe in SA
Know well Sir that you are a great person. I deeply feel your awareness and wisdom. We need a lot of people like you. Please be safe and well, you are loved.
lol wtf at random person joining in.
This just goes to show how cut off China is. It's interesting and sad at the same time. It's weird that they cut them selves off are super nationalistic, but then allow foreigners to come. It's like "we think you're lower than us and don't really care for you, but sure you can hang out here". Like why.
Money
Why u delete comment tho?
Now we need a follow up video on what happened with random guy after.
Serpentza always convincing me not to go to China
+3nien yes, and learn to stay off of illegal foreign websites like RUclips, it's a violation of Chinese law and therefore disrespectful to Chinese people to break their rules and customs.
+3nien chinese laws apply to all Chinese citizens regardless of what country they are in.
+Robert 50cent, ehh ?
Any foreigner that lives there should keep a fake passport on hand hidden away so they can get out the country if they need to. They sell them on the darknet. I never thought of it before the Silk Road documentary.
Here is he still in China
Dude you are awesome! Love the videos, keep up the great work.
Anyone know a Notary office in Shenzhen for a visiting Canadian ? Government Notaries only help foreigners with work visa
War department
''my friend wanted to get a dodgy massage''
Yeah yeah Winston, I believe you! Your friend... wanted the dodgy massage.
Mr Me - I think he was trying to address the popular scams that take place in Asia against forners, and not his sexual problems, and he does not come across as racist but rather talks about the racism he has experienced.
is that guy C-milk
And I thought only the blacks were experts at twisting the words of a white man. But the solution with the blacks is the tell them straight up that they can twist what ever they want because they know what I said and they can twist their mamma.
Thank you very much for all the information on youtube. I am very enjoy all the clips that you make. You're AWESOME!
lmao winston, i admire you for having a great ability of not being distracted by surroundings, lol
Lol, dude you handle the odd guy great. Very professional.
I know it is probably not feasible because of the subject of many of your videos, but I liked the local individual in the video. Even though he didn't seem to understand what was being said, it added something like an authentic element.
I must say, it speaks volumes about your character that you can make friends so easily.
Big fan, but I just want to say 60k viewers have been staring at you plus that guy. lol keep the great videos.
wow serpentza if only you could have all your videos this high production value. love the channel !
Lol, your sitting there talking about a very serious personal situation and the guy next to you randomly sits down 😂 .
YES DUDE
Your videos have been entertaining me for the past 2 hours and that is a huge feat in itself. You've got a new sub!

What I get from this is simply "dont go to China". Message heard loud and clear.
Honestly, really, I am counting down my days until I can leave China. It's just a horrible country. I have no idea why any expats stay here.
tmw you misread "the massage heard loud and clear"
Taiwan won't even admit being China, and rather be Japan, so your statement is moot.
that wasnt really the message of the video but go ahead and force your opinion on everything
if that was the message he wanted to give, he would not be there in the first place, right? It's just a lifes experience and surely not an easy lifes, but a life of choice. if you want to interpret it that way, ok, but dont conclude it into a "message" that wasnt made
That random Chinese seems like a nice, chill dude. Why all the hate?
I agree. The hatred stems from racism.
lmao. The trolling.

Jeez Winston I think I spent about all my free time for more than a week watching your videos.
Very interesting stuff!!
+CreRay awesome, thanks mate!
i'm totally addicted too! from him casually mentioning the pissing kid in one video to, uh, Random JOHN in this one - I'm mesmerized. AMAZING content
he is looking at you like he was in love with you ..lol.............very good and informative video Winston
Yeah, definitely some fatal attraction type shit going on.
lol
welcome to china that happens at least 50 times per day
That was next level funny shit.
Dandy.....Remember Winston is 1.3% Black. *~XD*
Takes a lot of Grit to do what your doing Mate keep up the Awesome Videos
here's my story !!
4 years ago.
moral of the story, dont be an ass and learn good manners
Stupid question, but couldn't he report the passport as lost and get a new one?
Yes, but he has to get another chinese visa and most likely there would be notification from local authorities to the PSB where he would get a new visa stamp inputted into his passport, thus, causing same scenario.
I thought about it but I think the china's government is not stupid of course they going force the Embassys to get some clear paper or contact with the local police before issuing a y new passport
Brilliant Winston how you added John into your video!
John was awesome, you should get him into more of your videos :)) haha!
That random guy at the end of the video is the weirdo in every elementary, middle and high school class in China.
he's the one dipping fries in mayo
You will see a shitload of these socially awkward chinese dude in China and America. That is what happened if you study all day and dont go out to experience life.
Everybody in Holland is dipping fries in mayo.... litterally everybody.
Ronald de Rooij Wow, what are you calling for? Should we all mass together to plot a genocide against the people of Holland? Is that what you're claiming, Ronald de Rooij? You think you'll survive, but you won't.
Agreed. I live in the UK where most people prefer ketchup, or god forbid barbecue sauce. Mayo is the superior choice, just like the metric system.
Oh man, so much props for keeping up with the talk :D I don't know how you managed to do that with that random guy just sitting next to you for no apparent reason.
And it seemed like just another day for the random guy xD
Oh my God he just sticking around, so innocent. It feels weird though.
it's totally fascinating, some of the oddest behavior I have ever seen, my god
So true about making a Chinese girl angry. Very jealous indeed. Even sometimes when it's not warranted. Just be careful and take it seriously.
Yeah, that part about Chinese girl is always true...
You're a real gentleman with a sea of patience, kudos!!!
"my name is john"
I have noticed that a few times so far... why do Chinese people use random "western" names for themselves?
lordeisschrank had a Chinese business associate of my ex boyfriend stay with us in California for a month.
@@scheimong Nice . I love Chinese and Taiwanese . My sister in law and doctor since 2002 both have surname "HSU" . Weird huh ???
@@scheimong I have trouble just with my simple name Tib, I always have to correct since everyone thinks Tim. I can imagine the difficulty with Chinese. Although I've had that conversation with some of my Chinese friends, I also asked why they didn't use their Chinese name.
It was probably Jiang.
Best comment!
I am fairly certain that US immigration doesnt even bother with criminals anymore. It used to be that way, after you finished your jail time, they would put an immigration hold on you and deport you. But no longer.
Ztez Maxim This only applies to certain groups of people. For Chinese, there is no such mercy.
Well presented this topic. Thx Serpentza!
She should have had to pay for his stuff she trashed.
naa, I am a westener but I disagree is the revenge for being a shitty person and cheat on someone
Johnfuse if you think cheating is okay youre part of the problem.
@Piatequila so your condoning violence against men. That really helps.
So she bites a chunk out of his arm, and destroys his appartment, but he hurt her?
The question is, she got a black eye. Those are not easy to come by. Did he get a scar/obvious injury in his arm?
yes she bit a chunk out of his arm, destroyed his property AND he hurt her.
Can you get arrested so we can see the inside of a Chinese prison? LOL Just kidding Winston! Enjoying all your videos brother!
when I was stationed in Korea it was the same way if it was a you versus them mentality they literally gang up on you and you'd be facing 20 30 or 40 Koreans that would beat you up and that's actually the only way that you never get in a fight if it was on the streets it would never be one-on-one they would never attack you when they get in a group they gain Courage
it's because the US military has a really bad image in Korea.
I love your videos, they are so informative. Stay safe always.
Was that guy a Chinese Government agent spying on you? LOL
Honestly, there is something weird with the first story. While I agree with that the girl has the better home base, I usually find that the average Chinese has a very strong sense of 'fairness'. Of course she and the police think it is fair that he pays compensation. But if he and she agreed in front of the police (did they do that?) to a certain sum, then actually I would expect the police to side with him now.
bro how you invited that guy at the end of your video to be in the shot was a crack up bro!!! LMFAOOO!!!
I always tell my new western colleagues that no Chinese women dates just for the fun of it... if you’re not serious about the future don’t do it.
Your intro songs are always on point! Cheers!

Great video...that dude at the end cracked me up hahaha I've lived in China before and I'm moving back in a couple of weeks. There are pros and cons to everything but China can still be a good place to live if you are aware of certain things
Let me summarize the whole video:
Surely confiscating passport is not legal? And does that mean it's impossible to break up with a girl in China?
Jenny Li leave. Leave and never come back.
Thank you for sharing this topic. That is outrageous.

If the guy hit a girl in America, the case may be even worse. Money wouldn't be able to solve the situation.
she bit off flesh from her arm.. if he hit her it may have been involuntary reflex
man i think i can see you get drained by all this, but tough it out. Wow! Amazing how you deal with it. Its amazing that it looks like you're not numbing yourself but able to deal with it. That's amazing!
Hahaha that chinese guy looking at at you is epic. Haha
Is it?
so many Chinese cheat on their spouses , specially on Chinese valentine day . have you ever heard of er nai or xiao san?
No, what does that mean ?
thats BS. look at the massage polars, salons with happy endings. thats a total double standard. there are plenty people stepping out if not more in china. sell your confucin hypocrecy somewhere else.
All holy shits above. I am talking about culture instead of current situation. Your western mentality can't understand deep Chinese culture.
Today I discover this channel, its really more than a VLOG, every episode is like a small documentary. I understand everyone feels discouraged about living in China after watching all the videos but I believe that if you are careful it will be a wonderful experience. To be frank, I thought that things there were far more problematic...
dodgy happy ending massage. you make me laugh, man
To get your passport back. Go to embassy and report it stolen. Viola! Get new passport.
xD lol
But they might just take it again when you have to show it somewhere...
Voilà. enfr.dict.cc/?s=voila
Very likely, the embassy wants to see a police record of you reporting the theft.
The RealJared voila,not viola ahahah
New passport wont have visa sticker, so you wont be allowed to leave without paying
im sure im not the only one who likes watching the intro's more than once haha. Still I think it would help if you/she said welcome to another " Serpentza video " or Wintston or.....such .
I can't stop laughing at your unexpected co-host
