Talking Watches With Greg Norman

- If you watched televised golf in the 1980s and '90s, then this Talking Watches guest is someone you know well. During his playing career, Greg Norman was a fixture on the PGA Tour who had a knack for being in contention in tournaments both large and small as they unfolded late on Sunday afternoons. (When Norman himself mentioned that he selected a certain watch to play with because it didn't reflect too much light in the afternoon sun, I found myself knowingly nodding along.) In all, he spent a total of 331 weeks as the world number-one, winning 91 international tournaments, 20 of which were PGA Tour events, as well as two British Open Championships. Norman came in second in seven other majors, and his status as an all-time great was cemented when he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001. This is your official Talking Watches with golf legend Greg Norman.
You didn't get to the Panerai on his wrist nor half the watches on the table. Cmon now
Agreed. I mean it's talking WATCHES, not talking celebrities.
But still a good video. They went through the watches.
Tyler Peacock they went through some of them. They talked about his career more than his watches.
They NEVER talk about the Panerais. I keep waiting but it doesn't happen.
Nick C that's a good point. They really don't do they?
I really appreciated this story on so many levels, not only the history and thought process behind Greg's selection of watches. But for me, the fact that he was a self-taught golfer who started at age 16 and accomplished what he did on the course is amazing.
Greg Norman is my all time favorite golfer. Brings back childhood memories of watching golf with my father on Sunday.
Is there a reason these are so short? This is the series that catapulted Hodinkee, there's no reason to edit them down so short. A solid 20-30min would be great, especially with icons like Greg Norman. Would love to hear him talk about watches & details he loves, life stories, future purchases, what he hopes to see from brands, regrets, etc.
GhostDiver short because basically Norman is not a passionate of watches obviously: he received most of his watches as gifts, never wore some and endorsed others for contract purposes. I don’t see any clue of true watch passionate here :(
They should do two channels uncut and clips
Yeah, so it would have been nice to talk about a few more of the watches on the table.
Agree, he is such a well-spoken guy. I'd love to hear more about the other watches on the table.
This episode of Talking Watches has the best chemistry and flow between the collector and interviewer. Greg and Jon seemed to have a very fluid conversation about the watches, and Mr. Norman's stories came across as very honest and real. Even though we have another "rich guy with gold Rolex" story, this one felt much more geniune. Like others in the comments, I'd love to see a "part 2" of this interview that covers the Panerai on his wrist and the Patek (tourbillon maybe?) on the table. As always, I look forward to more Talking Watches. Thanks!
Wish we heard more about the other watches on the table.
Even just a single shot would have satisfied
Um and the rest?
What a classy individual... someone who loved the game and became so dominant, yet is so seemingly humble about his HoF career. Both Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman are the best! Thanks Hodinkee
Great episode! What a legend.
Fantastic interview, love the watches and the great stories they all hold.
Theres a collection I like to see, watches with story, and meaningful use to his life. Not a "I bought every rolex with red on the dial" type of collection. This is great!
Man likes gold....
Great collection. Got me into gold color watches.
I'm sure Greg has limited time to talk watches, so he spent what he had on the most meaningful. Thank you for another great video!
outstanding! glad i came across this interview. wish it were longer.
Good one. But what‘s with all the other watches on the table? Instead of all the watches he paid for wearing them, I would rather been interested in the ones he picked himself. I saw a Breitling and maybe a Sinn.
Might be sponsorship politics at play, perhaps?
Loved this but so wish there was more!!
I'm a huge admirer of Greg Norman and didn't realise he was a watch collector - fascinating insight.
The 1996 Masters still hurts and I only watched it. A few months later I had the privilege of following him during his second round of the US Open. (Shot a 66, including an eagle 2 at Oakland Hills's signature par 4 16th.) Even at the height of his talent he was a class act.
Excellent collection and he is extremely privileged to have most of his watches as a gift, bar the Cartier Pashsa.
We needed this one.
Talking Watches with Eric Clapton!
vinicius sg better hurry he’s selling them all by the looks of it
Matt Ashe yeah....
Wow! Really?! Why? How did you know that?
brenovsky he’s already sold the Patek and he often sells his stuff to help fund his rehab clinic in the Caribbean. He’s getting older, has young children blah blah.
Oh, ok! I thought he was going all in... or out! ehehe Thanks!
Love the episode. Crisp and clean.
Seriously, we need more of talking watches or we’ll have to start signing petition.
Interesting comment about how he built his golf game, never seen that on the internet, good interview, he clearly likes the watch designs (especially in yellow gold).
Need more of these. Good video. Thank you.
Greg Norman, what a true gentlemen.
Awesome to see Greg loving Gold watches. Way to go!
Excellent episode! Thank you!
A watch collection that any man would be proud of and some exquisite timepieces. This guy knows his watches and it’s great to see his passion for his collection and how they hold sentimental value for him. Bravo.
Nice Patek, would have loved for them to go through the entire collection.
The whole time I'm thinking of all the watches worn while playing on the course over the years and the shock and impact those watches must have taken from all those golf swings.
🔥 collection
Greg Norman is such a great talker. Even his collection got me into the gold color watches.
Dude was gifted a hell of a collection.
Now there’s a man that can rock a nearly full gold watch collection. Epic stuff there on the table
Great talker. Love his confidence.
Excellent interview...👌🏼
He was my favorite golfer, nice to know he likes watches too.
My 4th time watching this video and man how I love how this video was put together
Lol... "most of my tee times on the weekend were in the late afternoon" #humblebrag
It's the truth.
Greg Norman is a brilliant entrepreneur, as he is a brilliant golfer. A very principled and intelligent man, Norman is easy to admire. Besides, as a watch collector, I enjoyed listening to his explanations of each watch featured. I happen to own a few of the ones on the table (including the two tone Breitling and the Rolex GMT) and the Panerai GMT he was wearing on his wrist. The man is first class and deserves every bit of goodness in his life.
So nice story, thanks
Being a golfer and watch lover I really enjoyed this TW. Great man and fine collection ⌚️👍🏌️♂️ Great to hear the story behind the Shark 🦈
Great collection, especially when most are GIVEN to you...
When a collector only has the “famous” brands, I doubt they are real hobbyists.... just following trends I guess. Get some irregulars like a GO, Parmigiani or Laurent Ferrier ...not just the regulars (e.g, Rolex, omega, Patek, and AP).
exactly .... super boring
Imagine getting a gold Royal Oak from the Sultan of Brunei. Incredible.
Such great advice at the end there.
Hard work pays off ! 👍🏻👍🏻
What a great story!
Great guy! Hard working and great athlete!
The dream episode for me would be Talking Watches with Roger Federer. A man can dream, right?
Why? He's sponsored with Rolex and gets given EVERY watch for free. Where's the "story" in that you fucking idiot.
No one said he can't buy his own (non Rolex) watches. Also, please stop belittling other users with your foul language
Wes Swindale I´m pretty sure his contract says exactly that
Paul McFadden all of the sudden they want celebrity here .. people that make a couple of millions a year or more and the first thing they do is buy new ROLEX’s PATEK’s a gold PANERAI or bronce and a 40k AP offshore to become “collectors” that’s BS... ohhh and they read the caliber number in the instructions the night before to look like they know what they are talking about.
Great to see how fit he is in his senior age!
The Ebel is a beautiful watch. Don Johnson wore one in Miami Vice. I have an Ebel tekton titanium 1911 conograph.
Gold, Gold, Gold.
Proud that you mentioned Brunei ✌️ now if you assosiated with polo career and having opportunity to play with the royalties. you probably be getting RM for consolation prize.
Very inspiring...
I travel globally for business. I have the immense pleasure of meeting and getting to know a lot of lovely people, in every known profession, and I could care less about "celebrity status." In a social setting (neither I or them conducting business), the two biggest d-bags I've ever encountered are both professionals from the same sport. Golf. Chi Chi Rodriguez and Greg Norman. Treated everyone around them like crap, even though virtually no one in the particular setting of the moment even knew who they were. Hope Norman's packed an asbestos suitcase for his after-this-life trip.
Great but why so short ?
It looked to me like Greg has a very nice collection representing not only a good range of luxury brands, but different complications. He certainly has explored horology more than Jack!
You guys should get Roger Federer on!!
And why the fuck would they do that? He has been sponsored by Rolex for years and years. It would be as interesting as you.
Never know - he may be a collector in his own right with his own non-Rolex pieces. Also, cut the swearing thanks man
Mcfadden - you know absolutely nothing about what arguably the greatest sportsperson of all time may or may not collect. Nothing. And your continued use of vile language is uncalled for and deplorable. Watch collecting as a whole would be better off without people like you.
Would be interesting to see a Hodinkee featurette from maybe Wimbledon where the players would show off their watches. Federer is a Rolex ambassador, Djokovic is Seiko, Wawrinka is endorsed by Audemars Piguet and both Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev are wearing Richard Mille watches during matches.
Paul McFadden fuck you prick
That's an interesting watch that piece of film
Love the Pan GMT. Surely the best watch in the video? Every other watch seems so obvious..
Reminds me of another AUSSIE wristwatch collector!!!
Archibald Chesterfield III?
The Pontiff!!
Absolutely. BTW, i've made the video "Analyzing Archieluxury" on my channel. Ad free. Just in case, you're interested.
F--- Me Dead!!!
The one and only Archie Lavatory the turd? Phuck me dead. Talk about stone the crows and starve the flamin' lizards. What next?
Im a watch repairman and i always get wristwatches broken by Golfers teeing off. If you golf and wear a watch, there is a big chance it will break. Often it not only causes damage to the movement, but also the pegs that connect the face to the movement are snapped off.
Thank you!
A lot of stories and watches that we missed there, very very bad!!!
Good to hear the vestiges of his Australian accent!
When viewing these Talking Watches videos I hope to see how a watch has caught the imagination, how the watch has been hunted out, how the watch has a meaning to a point in the person's life. Unfortunately there are a few videos whereby the 'collector' has been given most of their watches by sponsors, that to me is not a watch collector, to me watch collecting is knowing about watches, learning about the differences in models, understanding the watch.
I don't mind if the watches in the collection are lower, middle or top of the range, whether they were bought new or found after having a previous owner, what I don't want to see is a very expensive watch sitting on a table with the price ticket or ID tag still attached, that to me is wrong.
There have been some really good interviews, some great watches, and some brilliant stories, lets have more of these videos please.
Norman seems like a fan of Hodinkee, It was nice they spoke.
I think talking watches should be made a bit longer. There were so much more he and his watches could’ve said and these are some unique moments only Hodinkee can capture.
humble guy....
In case I missed it, what was the watch he was wearing. Looked to be a Panerai
Great video, Greg seems like a terrific gentlemen and has a really cool collection. Thank you.
Damn Greg built good
Greg just like his watches....fit, older but still running and in good shape. The shark
Really hoping there's a part 2 coming...
Clicked to watch Greg but stayed watching because of the Grand Seiko (sbgm221?) :)
More "Talking Watches" please. I notice Guy Fieri is a watch guy, and you've already met Alton Brown...
Greg is a lot more interesting than some watches.
Cool to see just a handful......definitely didn’t want to see the rest on the table or his Panerai. Great artsy job again hipsters
Amazing interview but what happens with the panerai on he’s wrist?????????
Greg looks to be in great shape for his age, dude looks jacked
Greg is lover of gold color watches!
Was that a yacht master rose gold rubber strap on the table?
What a boss
In Australia many kids receive a watch when they matriculate from their parents. Did Greg receive such a watch and does he still have it???
Great video 🏆👏😘
what i wanna know is what watch Jon is wearing. Anyone know?
I'd like to know as well!
What watch is the host wearing?
Wish y’all would’ve talked about the other time piece on the table; including that Lefty Paneri on his wrist.
There were loads of watches that I wanted to find out about there
I like the watch that hes wearing there. hat us it?
JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL, TOTALLY LOVE IT SEE IF YOU CAN GET SYLVESTER STALLONE, HE IS A HUGE WATCH GUY. KEEP UP THE GREAT CHANNEL
Does anyone know some talking watches episodes where they show Sinn watches ?
some very nice watches there, not all uber high end stuff which is revealing...a guy who spends time hiking in the mountains needs a tough beater watch he can rely on. He makes a key point about watch collecting and that is that every watch should have a story behind it....marking an occasion, event, anniversary, achievement....otherwise they're just possessions which soon get forgotten!
Enjoyed the video, but why not asking him about the watch he was choosing to wear that day, which I believe was a Panerai?
The aqua terra is the pick for me. Maybe not the best here with all the other gold bling rolex and the patek, but looks the best.
I think they are trying to demote Panerai right now across the board . I think they are conspiring against Pam . Anyone have thoughts on this ?
