Should done it a year's or so ago. love having a BC back 😊
My dad and stepmum own two border collies. They're so sweet and smart. Every time I visit and see them, they're always doing something unique. They are quite different from each other though! The older male has endless energy and is OBSESSED with his favourite toys, anything that can be thrown. He chases flies and birds. He has over 1000 word vocabulary. The female is precious, extremely cuddly, little attention seeker!
I have four. They have jobs. Real jobs doing Canada Goose Control on Corporate Properties five day s a week. They go on long horse trail rides with me, swim in my pond, run the farm, fetch all day then circle the house all night. This is not a dog for the faint of heart.

i love all dogs, and they love me. but ive never fallen for any other dog like ive fallen for a border collie. one of the great loves of my life, including humans. respected him so much i had to hold him as he was being put to sleep. he could sense my heart pounding as she injected, and he reached up the last ounce of life to lick me and calm me while he was going down. i dont even know if humans deserve these creatures.
This breaks my heart so much. Sorry for your loss❤️🩹 It is so painful. BCs are so loyal, smart, funny, crazy, and loving. My lil bc furball means the world to me. I feel you.😢

I have a border collie Australian shepherd mix. She’s the chillest dog I’ve ever had besides my purebred lab. She’s only got work to do on leash because when she’s out she wants to GO and I’m slow af 😂 otherwise if I’m just chillin all day she’s super relaxed and lays with me. She’ll do some turns and do that nip the air bark some dogs do to indicate she wants or wants to do something. But otherwise she’s calm as hell smartest dog I’ve ever had tho she knows sit shake lay down stance (which is the term for lay down when throwing her ball) and she does high ten and hug and kiss where when I’m sitting on the bed with her I tell her give hug and she comes up wraps her paws around me and kisses me on the cheek
Just got my first and he is now 17 weeks old and fully vaccinated. Got him after losing my Aussie after 9 amazing years so very experienced with high energy dogs. He already knows 9 different tricks and haven't even started leash training yet (probably should have) but I think he will be a special one.
BORDER COLLIES!.. Simultaneously adorable and the most bonkers person in whatever family they’re attached to. I miss the one my family had. Her name was Rosie. She was such a basket case that we had to get another dog for her. Her fur was the softest thing I remember feeling. I couldn’t love her as much as I should’ve in life. In death I will never forget her. Goodbye sweet friend, may I never forget you
There are dogs and there are Border Collies ❤ I'm slightly biased as I have had 2 wonderful ones in my life and would definitely have another when my boy dies. You put the effort in with the training and the fun and the rewards are immense. And definitely go for a farm bred Collie, not a 'Show Dog' bred/kennel Club as interbreeding is allowed. Just my opinion.
my ABSOLUTE favorite breed. They are without ANY doubt, both the COOLEST and prettiest dogs ever. Perfect size. My experience with them has actually been rather low-maintenance, surprisingly. Recently, I befriended one of my customer's BCs, her name is Dotty and she's about 3 years old. Dotty is so smart, that she can use my smart phone for me. She'll boop her nose into my phone to hit confirm buttons.
I love border collies. I personally have an Australian Sheppard because he doesn't need as much mental stimulation and is happy with a daily 3mile walk.
My wife owned a boarder collie from 2010 to 2021,she had to be put down because she had severe arthritis, kidney disease and cancer,I’m 56 yrs old there is not a day that goes by I don’t talk to her and miss her she was the best dog on earth she is so much truly missed
First time dog owner here, I have a collie, I have no job, she got 40 hours a week for 6 months of loose training, she’s off lead safe, I haven’t taught heel because I don’t want her under foot, she’s be trained to do search work by me, she can track animals and people. She loves fetch but not chasing, I hide the ball and she goes out sniffing I frequently hide a scented ball in the underground car park and walk her on lead having her search for the ball and she finds it everytime. She coming on a year old now, she was born in July, I got her in august last year just before she was 6 weeks old,
Yep, border collies are the best dog to own. Mine us my first dog😂😂😂 it is not easy but I had no choice she was a free puppy and I didn’t know anything about border collies.
Except when she was a wee pup, my Aussie/BC, Gem (the Empath) was not destructive. Gypsy Rose Lee hated dog clothes‐sweaters, headbands, and don't even mention dog shoes! She was my first r/w girl and probably wanted to be another stripper. JackBNimble and his girlfriend-Gypsy's cousin/BFF-were nibbles and grew quickly out of that stage. They were busy, herding small animals in our yard, and looking after us when not going for their walkies.
They are lovely creatures but they were bred to WORK, I grew up in Wales and would regularly see these energy and intelligence packed canines driving flocks of sheep up the hills and down to the valleys, every day!
Can confirm. Border collies are so friendly and smart, but VERY playful and they WILL tear up absolutely everything they can if you don’t engage them enough. Our collie once ripped a shoe and then hid the shreds under a blanket in the cupboard so that we wouldn’t notice. 😂
My favorite! So smart and trainable. You must be active with them. Walk and run, Frisbee, games, jobs and agility and it is like they can read your mind. They need to please you and love you.
We adopted our third Border Collie Clayton from a loving family that unfortunately didn't have the experience, resources, time and space to care for him. He was exhibiting manic, reactive behavior and was very frlearful. He has been with us for four months and has improved exponentially since coming to live with us. He walks 10 to 15 miles a day and is run with ball 3 or 4 times a day. He is off leash trained and an absolute lover. He is only a year old and is extremely energetic and quite prone to zoomies. 😊We are often visited by his former family and they cannot believe that he is the same puppy. As you said in the video, most times, a Border Collie is not the best choice for a first time inexperienced dog owner. They are incredible pets when they bare properly cared for.
Can confirm about the getting away with things. Ours has had second breakfasts on multiple occasions by rooting and hiding the empty food tins out of the bin and fooling another member of the family that she is famished (after removing the evidence she has been fed). Honestly though the smartest/ sweetest dog I've ever known, you can see the twinkle in their eyes, so much personality. She is getting more crafty the older she gets lol. (11y.o.)
*I have a 13 year old one. She has slowed down considerably, but she has gotten ornery and mischievous. Her new favorite activities are farting and cussing out our cat in her own border collie language.*
Border colliers are NEVER to be put in an apartment. They demand a yard, large, or better yet acreage. The energy / exercise demands of this working dog requires space, daily.
Yhep. I saw one in the dog park run rings round their owner. He played 'hide and seek' all by himself. He hid against a wall and ignored his owners calls. He was so deliberate and diligent in his task. It was all in his body language and his eyes. 'Yeah find me.' 🤣🤣
Border Collie is my first dog. Never wanted another breed. Now I have three. All rescues, bestest dogs you can imagine if you can match their intelligence.
We have an American Bully XL and a Border Collie both are extremely intelligent canines. They get well. "Surprisingly our American Bully took the initiative to train his younger sibling from another mother in the art of ball retrieval and Frisbee catching."
I'm a first time dog owner and I love my siberian collie! I'm training him on my own as my emotional support. It's all about paying attention to their needs and not giving in to that humanistic "ape rage" as they are so intelligent they'll tell you exactly what they need/want. It almost feels like he's training me!
I grew up with a border collie. He died about 20 years ago, and till this day I have yet to meet a smarter dog. Give this breed what it needs and you have one of the best companions you can get. But as he said, probably not the best choice for first timers.
My family has a border collie mix, and he had severe separation anxiety if we left him alone in the house😅 he has literally eaten his way through a door frame. Most of the time when we leave he gets to stay in our yard and is happy and content with this running around and playing. He’s now 13 which he has calmed down with age despite half deaf and blind he has the energy of a puppy😂 but he is one of the best dogs we have.
i used to have 2 border collies at the same time (they got old and no longer with us) yes they are a handful specially when they’re young, but when they grow older, they’re so smart that they’re just like another independent member of the family
I just got a border collie aussie mix and she's an absolute handful but I love her. She's the first dog ive raised myself but I've always had dogs growing up
What a beautiful BC! Love ur videos, thanks for all the useful tips and tricks. We have a 3 year old female BC named Rossi, we live in a rural Canadian town thats perfect for off leash activities. Rossi is actually our first dog, and in my experience, has been incredibly easy to train! :) its just down to the amount of exercise she gets in a day i think. If u can keep active, i believe they can be a great 1st dog :D
Our secret was living next to a river and having a dog that laughed at every fence we could possibly be expected to put up. To the extent that the local dog catchers gave us a free pass because after meeting him and seeing what we had, they knew we'd done all that we could.
Have a Border/Bernadoodle and I think the other breeds help balance out his need for work because he seems perfectly content and non-destructive on rare days we can’t provide all day exercise, but also plays like a maniac when we do.
I have chronic pain and fatigue but I have two GSDs and a BC ages 11 months, 2 and 3 years. They are walked about 90 minutes per day but I have flare ups sometimes and have to skip walks for two days in a row. I’m in UK so we have a tiny backyard. How do I have such contented dogs without any behavior problems? Well 1) I currently don’t work so they are not home alone all day. I realize that’s not possible for most people BUT households where it’s a single working person or two working people who are gone 50 hours per week should NOT have these breeds! At least be a home where there are people coming and going (like older kids in the home) or if you work different shifts so the dogs aren’t home alone more than 5 hours per day. 2) NEVER CAGE THEM. Lifelong dog owner and NEVER owned a crate. Your crate is the cause of more problems not the solution. It is psychological abuse. It creates a TRAP if there is a fire in your home then your dog is literally toast. Also if there is a break in, the intruder can HARM your dog (I worked at an alarm company and this happened to customers who caged their dogs). Do NOT use a crate if you want a happy healthy dog. 3) Lots of natural chews especially during the first two years. They NEED to chew. Chewing keeps them BUSY and engaged, and they won’t chew your furniture if they have something to chew on. I leave a big pile of chews in different textures down on the floor until the puppy is fully mature. 4) GIVE THEM A MATE. Having a friend for company makes a HUGE difference in how contented they are. A companion helps fulfill emotional needs and they can play with each other instead of releasing energy destructively.
Cute video and for those that don't understand why your talking so much is because they don't own a Border Collie I have always they are all you say anymore and they love when we talk to them as we do be cause they are FAMILY and a dog lover is a beautiful human
Everything he said is FACTS they are very energetic and very smart. Also if you have other dogs they might cause a problem because they are naturally herding dogs. But they are GREAT DOGS!
Knew a collie all my life, passed away not long ago but man do i have some tales, Moss used to pee on the floor so thaf my grandma would get the mop out and then he could play with the mop. Yknow how after a certain point you spell words like, ball? Or treat? He learned how to spell.
The one thing i feel that is way under recognized about Border Collies is their very strong desire to be pleasing to their owner in any way they can. They only want to work and be pleasing to you. Another thing that should be mentioned more is how loveable they are.
I had an extremely smart one 20 years ago and now I’ve got a new one a puppy and he’s showing signs at 3 months of being a champion, they are so smart and need a lot of time hours every day, don’t get one unless you really can afford the time to devote to this breed, and if you can it’s worth it, they understand words and hand gestures and they are keen to show you how smart they are and carry out any tasks you can think of for a dog.
Love my border collie, and he was very smart dog, but also very reactive to people, dogs, and animals. He was also sensitive to weird sounds. It was a nightmare.
Same with my Border collie! But he doesn't need much exercise and isn't destructive at all. He does know a lot of tricks so that keeps him mentally stimulated.
Living in Queensland with a tin roof, a few times a night we'd have a possum jump onto it from a tree. Big crash. Which triggered our dog. Who then started a chain reaction down the street.
I've had three border collies, all rescues from people who probably didn't understand that having one is like having a super high energy 5 year old who is really, really smart.
They are wonderful creatures. Although smart and energetic, not enough discussion is had about how loyal and loving they are! They are also very versatile: ive taken mine hunting and that wow moment like “these dogs can do anything!” Oh, they also sleep the same amount as other dogs. Its not like they are up 24/7 bringing you frisbees
I grew up with a lot of border collies love them and they usually love everyone but the aussie border mix was on another level that guardian instinct she had meant a constant attentive babysitter that isn't afraid to keep you close to home by blocking your path and tell every stranger to back off lol.
Our girl is nonstop from 6:30 am until SHE decides to go to bed at 8:30 pm. She relaxed a bit last night watching a RUclips video of a Border Collie puppy training with sheep. Ours was staring intently, but I wasn’t sure if she was concentrating on the puppy or the sheep!!

i used to have 2 border collies at the same time (they got old and no longer with us) yes they are a handful specially when they’re young, but when they grow older, they’re so smart that they’re just like another independent member of the family
The restlessness resembles a Belgian Malinois. Both breeds are super workaholic dogs
I'm in love with that dog!!!
The best way i can describe my border collie is "eager to please!"
They will do your taxes for you if you give them a calculator. They are that smart!
Thank you so much I’m getting a border collie 😁
Possibly the worst dog for a first time owner but for an experienced and dedicated owner with the right lifestyle, there is no better dog!
Thanks man, my roommate recently got a border collie pup & she is awesome. I must take time for he so she has a awesome life. New Subscribe 🌵🐕🌵
Have a Border/Bernadoodle and I think the other breeds help balance out his need for work because he seems perfectly content and non-destructive on rare days we can’t provide all day exercise, but also plays like a maniac when we do.
As a border collie owner, I can confirm that it’s creepy how much they act like humans
Border collie this is my favorite breed ❤❤❤❤
I love this dogs ❤❤❤❤
Reminds me of my son lol I honestly want to get him one of these ❤
Having been a Border Collie owner, this is accurate.
Cheat the system is the perfect phrase!
I have a border collie. He owns my ass. Smart is even in it. Greatest dog you’ll ever own, and you’ll lose weight for sure.
Proud owner of one,baby❤❤❤❤❤
Knew a collie all my life, passed away not long ago but man do i have some tales,
Moss used to pee on the floor so thaf my grandma would get the mop out and then he could play with the mop.
Yknow how after a certain point you spell words like, ball? Or treat? He learned how to spell.
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Best dogs ever! ❤❤❤
This is amazing dog!
They are very smart dogs.😊
They need lots of exercise and stimulation. They are very sensitive to their environment as well. Crazy smart dogs❤
The one thing i feel that is way under recognized about Border Collies is their very strong desire to be pleasing to their owner in any way they can. They only want to work and be pleasing to you. Another thing that should be mentioned more is how loveable they are.
I just subscribed thank you so much for this video I have 2 border collies and I love them so much
I had an extremely smart one 20 years ago and now I’ve got a new one a puppy and he’s showing signs at 3 months of being a champion, they are so smart and need a lot of time hours every day, don’t get one unless you really can afford the time to devote to this breed, and if you can it’s worth it, they understand words and hand gestures and they are keen to show you how smart they are and carry out any tasks you can think of for a dog.
I love ALL doggies. All my rescues n my three babies are street strays! Stray doggies rock. ❤

Love to all doggies ❤
My favorite ❤so smart and affectionate and the best hiking buddy
2 smartest dogs I've ever seen right here 😂
Love my border collie, and he was very smart dog, but also very reactive to people, dogs, and animals.
Love the boots dude. And I agree, I have a border collie and would have one again.
Bordercollie are very smart and intelligent, like golden retriever ❤❤❤❤
If you don't teach this dog, this dog Will teach you 😆
I've had three border collies, all rescues from people who probably didn't understand that having one is like having a super high energy 5 year old who is really, really smart.
They are wonderful creatures. Although smart and energetic, not enough discussion is had about how loyal and loving they are! They are also very versatile: ive taken mine hunting and that wow moment like “these dogs can do anything!” Oh, they also sleep the same amount as other dogs. Its not like they are up 24/7 bringing you frisbees
mine never gets into any mischief even if he's under stimulated
I grew up with a lot of border collies love them and they usually love everyone but the aussie border mix was on another level that guardian instinct she had meant a constant attentive babysitter that isn't afraid to keep you close to home by blocking your path and tell every stranger to back off lol.
Oh thats why they know how to open doors my dog know how to open a door💀
Just out of curiosity, is she a show line border collie or a working line?
Our girl is nonstop from 6:30 am until SHE decides to go to bed at 8:30 pm. She relaxed a bit last night watching a RUclips video of a Border Collie puppy training with sheep. Ours was staring intently, but I wasn’t sure if she was concentrating on the puppy or the sheep!!
Anche io ho un border collie e sono veramente straordinari
Absolutely right.
Beautiful dog..
I have a border mix, he was a terror when i got him, then i trained him for years. Now he is one of a kind. 'lot of work though.
Gorgeous! ❤❤
Same applies to border collies mixes sometimes.
I love bordercollies
Ty for saying you’ll own the border collie dog breed bc I have one
