I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! And as a french canadian, I'm sooooooo happy to see it receive more attention overseas. Thank you so much for the amazing content, Emma!
Loved the film. It truly stays with you. What a fascinating character Kelly Anne is. They really keep you guessing as to her intentions throughout the film. I guess only the final few minutes reveal her true intentions. One element that seems to be a definite clue as to her motive is the photo used as the image representing Guenièvre, Kelly Anne's virtual assistant. Guenièvre stands out as a narrative element throughout the film, but what fascinated me was the image that represents Guenièvre, which we see in the frame above Kelly Anne's computer. At first I thought it was one of the Romanov princesses, but a reverse image search lead me to the Victoria and Albert Museum collection and a photograph from 1872 by photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. It's the same image, and its title is "St. Agnes." Wikipedia result for St. Agnes leads to: "Agnes of Rome (c. 291 - c. 304) is a virgin martyr, venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, Oriental Orthodox Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church, as well as the Anglican Communion and Lutheran Churches. [...] Agnes is, among other patronages, a patron saint of girls, chastity, virgins, victims of sex abuse, and gardeners." From that, we gather that yes, in fact Kelly Anne's motivation was ultimately justice for the victims.
I just pictured you doing research to find out this vital piece of the puzzle just like Kelly-Anne did in the movie, lol. That information really says a lot about the character, but as commented above, I also believe that she got a little over the edge. Fascinating character indeed.
@@educostanzo i mean yeah she went some strange places for sure, like dressing up like the little girl again, breaking into the mother’s house & taking a selfie on the girl’s bed before leaving the flash drive, which i found to be instances that made me doubt her motivations. but yeah ultimately i guess the movie itself wraps it up in a way that does make her goal quite clear. but we still miss the part of what made her care so much to go to all these lengths. her personal history is actually remains unexplained.
A couple things that struck me how much she resembles the victim in that uniform. Seems like that may have hit a chord with her. Also the level of obsession to me would hint to me at being a past victim herself. Also she has a bit of a hard edge to her which indicates someone who has learned the hard way to be cautious. Also did you notice the way her whole demeanour changed when the killer waved at her? After that demeanour change she went home and immediately typed in ready. Like a decision was made. She wanted a confirmation of his guilt in order to act. I get the sense a lot of her reactions were her sifting through the case to get answers for herself. Once she gets them she acts like a protector or a vigilante to attain justice. Ironically very much like St. Agnes.
I love that you cover disturbing films and dramas as well as horror - it really scratches that itch for me that I find lacking in other channels. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction!
There's something about Quebec that makes them put out such disturbing movies. Maybe it's all the poutine and pork pie,or maybe because it's so damn cold up there!
Thanks for the review, I'm definitely adding this to my watch-list. When I was in my early 20s, I served on a grand jury and we saw several cases a day, probably over 12 days total. Most were typical petty theft, drug possession, vandalism, etc, but every now and then we saw some really strange or disturbing cases and there was one in particular that was almost too much. I don't want to spell out exactly what it was due to the sensitive nature, but we listened to a police officer describe photos they had recovered and it was the most hair-raising, uncomfortable 15 minutes that I've ever experienced and I don't think I could possibly repeat out loud the things the officer described, but he spoke in a very cold and detached voice when he provided the descriptions and I cannot imagine what police like that go through on a case. And this was something that we hear about all the time, we know it happens, but to hear the details was horrific.
I just saw it and it left me shocked. My blood pressure almost dropped during the 'cosplay' scene, I just couldn't believe what I was watching. A 10 in my book!
Saw this at a film festival last year and absolutely loved it. It's VERY disturbing, but not in an overly gratuitous way. Like the whole courtroom tell-dont-show direction worked really well for me. You learn about how awful the cases are without having to see anything which I prefer.

This reminds me of the Ken and Barbie Killers: Lost Murder Tapes documentary that I just watched. Such a disturbing true crime, also in Canada. When the tapes were found and viewed by the lawyers and the jury, they were so horrific that it forced people into therapy for PTSD and ultimately were burned to prevent the revictimization of those poor girls and their families.

I just finished watching it and I LOVED it! Apart from everything Emma said here, which was spot on, of course, the sound design was greatly done! It definitely is what magnified any response on us viewers. It was so precisely used, even when there was none of it, that it totally added to the whole tension and dreadful atmosphere of this film.
Great movie! I like horror a lot but not so much gore or graphic movies and I like how they were able to depict horror without showing it. The narration and plot was very good and the atmosphere was tense the whole time and the movie wasn't predictable imo. I want more movies like this!

I saw this couple weeks ago, and i did like the film, and im glad i got to see it in theaters. I also loved the soundtrack. I was just confused about who Kelly-Anne is and her connection to the victims family's and why she cares so much about this, that she is willing to tank her life for it. I know she seems a little off and aloner and in the end she did the right but who is she.....
She's a loner, she developed an unhealthy fascination with the case and tracked the videos on her own which were very hard to find. She bid like 200k on the last video and celebrated like a little girl. All of this, the selfies she took in the last victims bedroom plus the stunt where she dresses up in the courtroom can only leave the conclusion shes not well and is doing it for some kind of egoistical reasons, the victims and families are only second thought for her AFTER she got her fix. She has empathy tho, she doesn't like the killer and she cries when watching the videos. Its true crime fascination dialed up to eleven. She wants to be nearer to the case than anyone else
Amazing film. It gave everything I was expecting from The Killer from Fincher and a little more. The lead actress is just phenomenal in her restrained performance.
I'm a HUGE horror and thriller fan and have seen well over a thousand horror films from all over the world over just the past few years. Almost nothing I've seen though has gotten under my skin the way Resurrection (2022) did. Without spoiling anything, would you say Red Rooms is in the same ballpark?
Just saw it yesterday and loved it. The scene that haunts me is ... SPOILER: Near the end (at the 1:45 mark) when she's watching the third and until then undiscovered video: she's smiling - although barely noticeable - not for the content, obviously, but because she finally found it...
It’s open to interpretation whether she’s smiling because she found it or because she takes pleasure in the suffering. After all, the movie examines hybristophilla. The next thing she does is to dress up as the schoolgirl and fantasise all alone in her bedroom before she decides to hand the material in
@@haungo-duc738 Based on what she does.. and how far she can go, you do understand that she does know how it works. In both ways. "To understand the killers, is to put yourself in the place of the victim, and hence be in theirs shoes". What she does, might and could be considered as weird. But if you do pay attention, all she does is to hate everybody. Except.. machines. Life for her is meaningless. Money are numbers. The rest.. is void. She is very detached, but somehow she wants to hurt that guy. The key of the movie is the scene when the others girl does ask "But in all this, who are you?". The answer is : Nobody. That is why violence make hers feel something. The photoshots make her feel "seen" The IA is perfect and does not have anything that could hurt her. Humans are weak, predictable, not reliable. And nor is she. I do think that the movie does mix a lot of elements, that put together depicts something trully shocking : Is a killer worse, than a person who might go to the far end to uncover the truth? Just think about that. She's not better than the killer. But the mere fact that she didn't "killed" anybody.. puts her in the "good side" of everything. In reality, she is evil. Just like him.
Just watched this here in Sydney, Aus. BLOODY good. Kelly-Anne was so enthralling. Absolutely dead-eyed and a great commentary on parasocial always-online incels and bitcoiners, haha.

I feel kind of stupid I really don't understand the film I thought it looked great great acting and I just didn't understand everything could someone explain it like I'm a two-year-old I would appreciate it thanks
There was absolutely nothing disturbing about this film. It was pretentious and boring. There was no big reveal and nothing remotely shocking. The emperor has no clothes.
I missed something about this film. I didn’t see the mystery and I didn’t get any surprises. I’m not saying I’m excellent at figuring out mysteries, I’m saying.. were there mysteries in this? He was guilty. That was not a surprise. Clementine was a victim. That was not a surprise Kelley Ann was a sicko. No kidding. in the end, Clementine saw the light, that was good. i’m not sure if it was that surprising. She was diluted but not evil.

Next up keep an eye out for the movie ”Femme”, you will not be dissapointed!
Absolutely riveting film. I'm shocked at how good it is.
Amazing film. It gave everything I was expecting from The Killer from Fincher and a little more. The lead actress is just phenomenal in her restrained performance.
Red Rooms is my top 6 fave film of 2023. It surprised me a lot WOW. Juliette Gariepy's performance is award worthy and needed to be talked about more
The issue is it wasn’t a wide release otherwise it may have been !
Thanks legend , another one to the list !
Sounds like a must watch, and just really sounds very interesting.
So many French courtroom dramas lately 😆 Yeah the ambiguity of this one really makes it stick. Good stuff!
I honestly think once it all clicked it’s not so ambiguous at all. But I didn’t realise what she was doing until the end very end fully.
In three years, you’ve watched over a thousand horror films?
red rooms isnt scary at all
This movie is pure 💩
Quebec represent!!
MASTERPIECE!
Damn... thanks for that...I think...🤯 Yep, 100% the most shocking of the year.
Can't find this one on any platform
Same.
Try watching Hellhole 2022. I wouldn´t say its that disturbing but it has some fun twists and amazing atmosphete!!
Loved this film. Heard it from YMS and as soon as it came out, i watched it and it was one of my favourites of last year.
I was wondering if you've seen The Trouble With Being Born (2020)?
Just saw it yesterday and loved it. The scene that haunts me is ...
SPOILER:
Near the end (at the 1:45 mark) when she's watching the third and until then undiscovered video: she's smiling - although barely noticeable - not for the content, obviously, but because she finally found it...
It’s open to interpretation whether she’s smiling because she found it or because she takes pleasure in the suffering. After all, the movie examines hybristophilla. The next thing she does is to dress up as the schoolgirl and fantasise all alone in her bedroom before she decides to hand the material in
@@EM-xj8hy Interesting take! This movie begs to be explored and is highly rewatchable...
@@haungo-duc738 absolutely. I’ve already rewatched it several times.
@@EM-xj8hy Okay after rewatching it just now with your interpretation in mind you might be onto something 😁
The photoshots make her feel "seen"
The IA is perfect and does not have anything that could hurt her.
I loved this film, it really surprised me and exceeded my expectations. The lead performance is incredible and so intense.
I saw this at a movie festival. Months after can't stop thiking about it.
...i just watched it. it's so good....
ooou we love shocking films in this household ❤
Hi, i like your reviews. YOU need to check FRONTIERS from Luc Besson and A'L INTERIEUR AKA INSIDE from Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillio with Beatrice Dalle and Alysson Paradis
Also check Peter Jacksons BRAINDEAD aka DEAD ALIVE and YES the Peter Jackson from the blockbusters.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

Moty
Hey, I have reviews and videos on all of these :)
I feel kind of stupid I really don't understand the film I thought it looked great great acting and I just didn't understand everything could someone explain it like I'm a two-year-old I would appreciate it thanks
Well made, very suspenseful and mysterious, But there was zero twist, Very straight forward, And a huge let down in the end.
Now I want to see it…dang it US. Maybe someday.
