It is worth mentioning that the second OVA covered here was directed by one Akiyuki Shinbo, later to go on to helm Madoka Magica and Bakemonogatari among many other things, which explains a lot of the weird aspect ratio stuff (it's a trademark) and the intense tone shift. I've honestly been curious about it for a while because of his involvement, and despite some obvious issues, it's a visually appealing show, so I'll probably watch it.
Sage covered another of his works awhile ago, Twilight of the Dark Master. Sadly I doubt he knows who he is, which is a shame because otherwise we could get a month of Akiyuki Shinbo.
Oh DAMN....I had no idea. That explains a ton. XD I bought this OVA in my teens and the second one shocked me with how different in tone it was. I cried during the last episode too and always hated how they just killed off Ayako like that. ;_;
Going through the archive of episodes but Benett has lost so much weight now. He looks really good. Not there was anything wrong with him before but it's just startling seeing the difference
I only remember Galaxy Fräulein Yuna from one thing: Kentaro Onizuka. He wrote the *definitive* annotated fan-translation of Gunbuster. He was also a major otaku and like many otaku, was a bit of a weirdo. Also like many 90s otaku he spent a lot of time around computers, and used an old Unix program called 'tgif' -- usually used for creating technical diagrams, schematics, and the like -- to create anime girl vector art. He was really into Galaxy Fräulein Yuna at the time, and prominently featured art of Yuna and Yuri Cube (among other characters from other series) on his page. I thought I was missing out on something cool for not having seen Yuna. Ehhh, I was wrong.
And that mention of the TurboGrafx-16 brought back all those memories of playing a cousin's copy of "Keith Courage in Alpha Zones" at the family Christmas get-togethers. Only now do I learn that that very game was based off a Sunrise comedy series named "Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru", and the game's "Nova Suit" was no suit at all, but a small and semi-autonomous super robot named Ryujinmaru. Sage, thanks for the memories, man.
That was about the first thing when I heard Belldandy mentioned, although I get strong Tenchi Muyo vibes through some character designs to. For some reason, a cross over between them could actually work or be complete trash.
Man I love that style. I miss the 90s. I want the strange and hilarious Dragon Ball/ Sailor Moon style back instead of the generic edgelord "we kill each other and grope our siblings boobs" style like e.g. Akame Ga Kill.
MforMovesets This is a little ironic considering that a lot of the shit that Sage has reviewed, revolve around boob touching, unfunny gags, and poor plot lines. Most of which from the 80s and 90s.
alexandra galici I'm still wondering what Kill was even trying to accomplish. You know, outside of being a gurren lagann rehash studio trigger could claim as their own.
Anime nowadays look nothing like Crybabay, Masaaki Yuasa, the director, has a style that is completely his own, for better or worse. If they had given the characters a darker or solid colour in KLK, then they may have clashed against the backgrounds, which has this very soft look to it. Some shows like Magical Circle Guru Guru and Osomatsu, have to have a cartoony look, as that's what the originals looked like.
2:41 Then-Food Network programming developer Matt Stillman brought Alton Brown and Iron Chef to the attention of the channel. Stillman unsuccessfully pitched bringing Mister Ajikko there, as well. Just think, there may be an alternate universe where Galaxy Fraulein Yuna became a Food Network staple.
Don't mind you not liking Magical Girl stuff, Sage. Do mind a little bit your dismissing the point of its intent to let girls actually do fighting and saving the day while still being allowed to be girls and not needing to be "badass" or "aggressive" or "hard ass bitches". I really don't mind if you just can't stand watching them. That's fine. But I won't lie it hurts a little to hear you hate on them all the time. I got a good one for you Sage! Ushio & Tora the first dvd came out around 2000 and only had 10 episodes. By ADV is pretty good, a little bloody as it's a adventure-horror with Japanese yo kai. But the series got new life in 2015-16 as a televised series with 39 episodes was released. I don't know by who though. Just thought you might like it... Oh wait it would be perfect for Halloween! Give you time to get your own Beast Spear. And no that was not innuendo!!!

What was that song @ 12:45
The intro song from final fantasy x-2.
Don't you know truly advanced civilizations always judge you to be guilty until proven innocent? 'desperate laughter of a man who sanity is shattering ensues'
What does that chip represent? Thirty seconds without an anime driving you to drink?
What song was at 12:45?
