I have like 3 sets that I rotate through. I soak the used ones in rubbing alcohol overnight, then pull them out to dry. Like new, every time.
I`m not alone I see... haha
I cook mine for 15 minutes, sounds as good as new. (But dry and towel them well!)
Would be great to hear you refreshing your opinion on them after a while, so they get a chance to show their potential!
Oh the #1 Green Bastard. Parts Unknown. That bass sounds fantastic.
What a great thing to cover. It's nice to know that those kinds of things are out there, Ben if they end up being like that. Solid material as always!
Janek gwizdala changes strings every three days . I would happily use a set of his cast offs for a year
I tried these once. Put them on my bass and wasn't too happy at all with the sound. Replaced them within a few days with some Ernie Ball Coated strings. Slinky strings or Rotosounds are the only strings that will go on my basses.
I ordered a five string set for my degraded soundgear. It sounds great now! I'll see how long they last. I like the one fellows idea of swapping them out every so often.
Use GHS fast fret. It extends string life by at least twice as long.
I've been using these hartke nickel wounds on a 4 string active bass that cost around 15 australian dollars (around $9 US?). Comparing them to some ernie ball power slinkys on my 5 string passive bass kind of shows the same results in this video, the power slinkys have more clarity in the low end. Although, good top end in either is still excellent
How can you tell if you don't try?
I guess that's a p-bass neck on a jazz body? Custom?
MIM franken style
Allparts.com sells bass strings for 10 bucks and they sound really good. They last about a month with heavy use and longer with light use. I did a review on my channel a while back.
Right now i bought a string set (no brand) for 4,50$.
I already used that and imho it's a good string set (maybe i can make a vodeo to reponse to you XD) with an AMAZING relation between money and quality, BUT i payed the best string set i ever bought in my life something like 70$. It was Italian handmade strings and i think it was the best sound i ever listen from new strings.
I use Dean Markley Helix and they are not too pricey and pretty good especially in Stainless steel :) But I hear you it's expensive and here in Europe it's insane, try $30 a pack of Ernie Ball...
The earnie ball cobalt bass strings are perfect sounding but over priced in my opinion. I think you should do stuff like this, along with the pedals under $50. Just like gear in general you found for not too much would be an interesting segment
cleartone bass strings are where it's at
+J Pennington I've heard great things about Cleartone's! I need to try some soon!
Man I used to use vinci 9 -42 now theres none and I used D aquisto now theres none. I just got to. Cheapbasses to track with and im looking for new strings
Thanks for the review. Chiming in real late, I know. Still, comparing with the same bass on your usual "renown brand" nickel rounds (whatever they are) should have been the way to go IMHO. We might all be surprised about the results, both in tone AND output. The string by itself doesn't tell that much in that respect, most sound (or seem to sound) OK out of the package.
I've been an enforser for Ernie Ball and Magma (Argentinean brand, if you don't know them, TRY THEM, they ROCK). After depleting my reserves after endorsement ended, spoiled after not paying for strings for almost a decade, I started looking for the most affordable WORKABLE strings. I finally settled on Warwick Red Label NICKEL (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THEIR COARSE QUICK DYING STEELS, the ones you usually find in stores and give Warwick Reds such a bad name, nickels are only available from thomann and some stores in Russia AFAIK). I currently pay 12.50€ per 5 string set. Best bang for the buck nickels out there. More about those in this TalkBass thread... www.talkbass.com/threads/in-praise-of-warwick-red-label-nickels.1398997
Now, at one pint in such quest, I spent ~20€ in a vaeriety of AliExpress cheap sets (avg. 5€/set, 5 strings). Brightness lasts, tension is somwhat soft, but the downside is they ate all the mids, sorta' turned evey bass hi-fi, in a bad way. You might not notice it right away, but I happen to have 2 identical ceramic era Stingray5s and I not only could tell how they ruined my Ray tone, but also OUTPUT WAS SEVERELY AFFECTED. Messed with my head indeed, I thought I had a problem with the onboard preamp in that Musicman. Both my Rays have the same output and sound the same; one (circa 1997) has been with me for 20 years and the other (corca 2003) for 10, and I'd still have a hard time telling them apart blindfolded. I recorded both and, despite the obvious tone difference from AliExpress strings to my usual Red Label Nickels, THE BASS LOST 9DB OF OUTPUT. Sucks! So, I repeat, THERE'S NO BETTER DEAL ON REGULAR NICKEL ROUNDS THAN THOSE NICKEL WARWICK REDS, if you can do without silk ends, which is basically the only con I can find in them (the another con might be EXCESS PACKAGING, something I also hate from almost every other string brand, apparently they still don't get it).
Thanks for the speech.
assuming youre using the same pod farm preset as your other videos im really not feeling these strings
Make more videos!
Well... At least the restring montage looked cool... What is your preferred string?
Try Caye bass strings..
Love that green color on your bass whats it called???
Sage green!
daddario usually sells regular 40-105 packs $20 for two sets. better quality and easy on the wallet
Lol 25-55 for my dr string highbeams or blackbeauties /dragon skin. A 9 dollar set of strings sounds like a okay back up in case you loose a string on the road and dont have access to your usual string of choice.
Would loved a before and after
I have Alice strings on my jazz 5 - they sound better than Ernie Ball's and D'addario that I have on other 5 string basses including another jazz 5.
Is that riff starting at 2:00 from a song? If so, can someone tell me the name?
Patrick!, Damn this vid is old now, I'm not sure if you'll see this, but i notice you've got Like Clockwork back there on the shelf, is that your favorite Queens record? I never knew that you liked those guys.----IDEA------ could you do a qotsa rad riff? that would make my year. Also, you're so underrated, i wish more people knew of you man, keep it up
You'd think a set of bass strings would be one-third cheaper than a set of axe strings :)
Rotosound 66
45-105
You sound a bit like Chi Cheng
did I see precision on the headstock?it should be jazz bass
jazz bass body + p bass neck
The Fall Of Troy :·3

+Chri shi a autocorrect screwed me on that one. Damn greasy hands lolol
Kalium or death
$50 for some La Bella's and your kid can enjoy them after you're in the ground! lol ....if kids these days had any respect for things that came before...
