Surprisingly and historically short players tend to do well on clay court. The ball bounce higher on clay than other surfaces, one would think that would be a problem for them.

Exactly. Same thing with small fry no name teenager taking down Saba. So we won't get no 2 vs no 3 but we've got two new players breaking thru and rooting for one of them to win a Grand Slam.
Its mentality and that improved a lot. Year ago she would lose such games as against Collins in AO, Osaka in FO or Sabalenka in Madrid, this year she won all 3. She won 21 out of 25 WTA Finals, she is exceptional playing under pressure. Rybakina is weaker mentally, she was about to defend 3300 from AO, Indian Wells and Rome, and she get only 70... On the other hand Swiatek can win few serious tournaments in row. It always harder to defend many points because you are playing as favourite. Rybakina played 5 finals this year but she lost against classy opponents like Iga and Collins at WTA 1000 level, she won against Kostyuk, Kasatkina at WTA 500 level. She beat Sabalenka but at Brisbane that was just warm up for her before AO. When she plays under serious pressure she makes more mistakes, what is typical for power hitters like her. Add to that even medium wind, then her serve is not weapon anymore and she is bad at longer rallies.
Two different body types. Height alone is not the most determining physical advantage. A shorter player can be much stronger than the skinny taller one.
This is why French Open is so great. The clay neutralizes Rybakina's flat ground strokes that are so dominant on other surfaces and punishes her for lack of agility. And whatever Italy is doing, the USTA should copy it.
@@LobsterFromMarsYes, she came today’s match without any plans! Ryba was not serious. She thought she could easily beat her. Ryba is not going to win slam this way.
You really don’t understand how fast Rybakina actually is, she is not slow at all. There is no lack of agility on her part. There is a difference between Rybakina not wanting to run and feeling like she doesn’t have to compared to not being able to run, she can run. Last year she wasn’t moving hardly at all throughout an entire match and getting her on the run was a guaranteed way to win a point but now she is choosing not to run because she is more comfortable hitting groundstrokes in a more stationary position and only running on the bigger points but she can still win points on the run and slowly but surely she will play more and more matches on the run until she gets used to it. The clay is not neutralizing anything, she served better on clay this year than on hard courts and she is hitting more winners on clay too. She will probably be the only one to beat Iga on clay this year and this was her best clay season(despite not even playing Rome) winning 12 matches on the surface.
Congrats Paolini she was the better player today. She dn't allow Rybakina to get comfortable at all, her many UE and lack of control on the ball really got the best of her abilities.

Bolelli/Vavassori are in the men doubles final, Errani/Paolini in the women doubles semis, Sinner in the men semis, Paolini in the women semis, Carboni in the Junior semis, beating the top seeded. An outstanding result for the entire team. But the most mindblowing rise was Paolini's rise: she will play two semis in the same Open, something literally unbelievable! She always was talented but lacked consistency. This year she is a machine: the titles in Dubai and Rome (in double with Errani) weren't flukes and she totally deserved her top 10 spot. Hope she continues this way and to see her in the WTA finals.
