@@Dasmahkitteh On another video the plates were left soaking in vinegar with water for about 72 hours, and they looked great after a quick scrub. I would put a wire brush on my my drill for the cleaning job.
Sandblasting would be more effective. If you want go chemical way, use phosphoric acid which is much more effective and leaves phosphate layer protecting from future corrosion.
I know it's a years ago I have some GPs 70-80-85-95 I wire wheel brush he is home I do it. To get anything off use paint thinner will emulsify the rust and black urathanr coating to fall off .. I will sell my GPs if any one is interested .......go to harbor freight a can of armor coating on the wieghts ....I can restore and sell them but will not be cheap but willing to sell them and redo I have about $4000 in them since new but will take offers
Honestly best video I’ve seen on how to do this.
Did something similar an old fishing boat anchor! Brought it back to life! Came out perfect! Just takes a litte work! Good job! Team work!💪🏾
Hahaha I heard the wine and thought that sounds familiar! I have a vizsla at home! Best breed! Thanks for the video
This is great. Amazing video
Exactly what I did with mine. Should do the bottom rack bells same colour give them a refresh. Good job ladies.
Awesome, im doing this weekend. Just picked up a bunch of these wasnt sure what to do.
Will the paint chip? Did you have to prime?
After you cleaned the vinagar off how long did you leave it before paint and did you use primer ? And how have the weights held up
Just waited until they were fully dry, and so far they are holding up great!
I waited too long (a week or two) and some of them rusted again even worse than before. LOL

You are amazing. Thanks for the video
I just bought over 300 lbs of iron. I plan to colour everything black to match the steel 50 lb plates that I repainted two years ago.
Looks good 👍 you guys brought life back into those weights
Hi there, you didn't show us the painting process.
I.finished.out a set of Old York standard weights today with chrome rustolem paint with a black lettering pin
Kick butt ladies! You're so clever :)
Good video. I must be lazy as I let rusted stuff soak BEFORE I wire brush. Less work I think. Cheers!
Thanks girls, really informative! Looks good.
Do you think spray painting these black would be a good idea?
Black would look super sharp
Nice job ladies..i suggest all black with white numbers..then lastly, a matte clear.
We re-did the plates in black and it looks much better. We will check out the matte clear - thanks!
Nicely done!

Great job, 👏.. I have a question, has the paint on the dumbbell handle come off yet after 7 months of use? Please give us an update, thank you 😊
Great question - we're going to do an updated gym video this week, and will give a review then!
Starting the process now!
What color paint did you use?
I believe it was hammered silver
Good job
How have these held up since you made this video? Any rusting?
Pretty well! There is some minimal rust popping through on the hex corners, but that's it. We are still very happy with them!
black def looks better
Just to really give them that extra touch. Hit the numbers and lettering with black. That would take them to the next level.
You should’ve pain the numbers white

Sorry typos
A drill and a wire brush is much faster, easer and does a better job.
