Thank you for your detailed review. I had not thought about what it would be like to use this in the field, in a low noise situation. Thank you for bringing that up. I've been looking for a loop and just got the pricing from the owner. A couple of question for you: 1) Can the motorized version be tuned manually? Or can the motorized versions only be tuned with the motor. I was thinking just in case the motor wasn't getting me dialed in. Or if I went into the field and didn't want to bring the cables and controller for the motor. 2) What's the maximum wattage for digital modes like FT8? 3) Can the loop be broken down in to a backpack for travel? 4) Would it be possible to put PowerPoles on the leads for the tuner and plug that into my RigRunner, which is plugged into my power supply? Or I suppose a battery if I take the radio into the field.
Hi Mike, the motor has a high gear ratio meaning you can’t manually tune it by hand, I did try once and pulled the linking shaft out. FT8 digital modes I wouldn’t exceed more than 10w, I say that because that’s the maximum I’ve tried. You can’t break it down if you wanted to take it in the field, it’s well put together. You could change the connections to the controller and motor drive to power poles. I’d prefer a manual loop in the field, it’s hard enough to tune, when you have a low noise floor, also the fact the motor creates a bit of noise on the radio. On the plus side taking it out in the field to do something like FT8 would a lot easier than phone, based on the fact you can tune in better to the FT8 frequency noise.
Hi, nice video, I've just ordered an 8 band loop with remote as well, I've just started the hobby. If I get a MyDEL MP-705 6-8Amp fixed 13.8v Linear Power Supply to use my IC-705 indoors, would it be too much voltage for the remote? And would I need to fit Anderson powerpoles to both? In advance, thank you very much for your help. Best regards, 73 de Manny-2E0HJN
Hi Manny thanks for the feedback, the voltage of 13.8v will be fine for the motor, the cable you get to power the motor will be left to you for termination, I’ve used a couple of ring crimps on the cable ends connected to my power supply, the Mydel 705 PSU will accommodate this option also . Thanks again for the great feedback, have a nice weekend 73s Jason 2E1HKO👍
Hi John, the loop isn’t designed for outdoor use, however I have enclosed the capacitor and it seems to be doing well. I do have a video in my playlist showing me weather proofing it.
Hi Frank, I picked it up off Facebook Market Place, I paid £130 for it, he does have a Facebook group himself. I think they are around the £180 mark normally but don’t hold me to it. m.facebook.com/magloops
Im using one at the moment and mine will tune on 15m too which is a bonus👍👍
you done really well with this video mate
Thanks Chris👍

You keep it on top of a printer? How good are these things with rfi? It’s really cool!
Very KOOL! Great vid!
Thanks Thomas

how weather proof is it, not sure about the unshielded capacitor?

What program have you got on your video
Where did you order that from, how much?

What band was in yellow?
I believe it is 20M, if I’m not mistaken. I was using PSK reporter at the time
Nothing more aggravating than getting us hooked on an antenna - but then not telling us how we can buy one.... ugggggh
