Welcome to the world of a genius and his chums. It is possibly not an understatement to say that Tim Smith was a rather original and maverick and determined creator of art.
8:29 Could somebody transcribe this quick little bit? I’m from the U.S. and *cannot* make it out no matter how hard I try 😅 “Who is that, a big dustbin?” Is about as good as I can imagine.
At the gigs Tim would get everyone chanting "Who is him? It's Jim!" and then say that it was because Jim was so fat and ugly. All part of the unique Cardiacs' experience...
Certain bits, yes. But compared to Cardiacs, Gentle Giant seldom managed to create good lyrics. Also check the variety of music and styles Cardiacs was able to cram in just one song. Comparisons get more and more difficult as you get to the Sing To God period a few years later.
Probably one of the best things on all of RUclips. And I've had a good look too.
This band is sublime.
Rest in peace Tim. A true visionary.
I love how both Sarah and Tim sing along to the guitar solo at 3:10
I've been in a Cardiacs moshpit. Freakin Awesome!
Hello. Probably bumped into you there in the moshy pond. We are all Tim's childs now..
Holy shit, sounds like the studio version.
+Angel G. Sounds better
Fantastic musicians.
Welcome to the world of a genius and his chums. It is possibly not an understatement to say that Tim Smith was a rather original and maverick and determined creator of art.
Tim's genius was sublime. And his chums were pure magic too. Their gigs were perfect moments in time and space.
Absoluteli nuts musicianship here. Love it
The very few guitar solos you'll find in Cardiacs' discography are all brilliant. Starting from the one in 'To Go Off And Things'.
This is just wonderful! I've no other word for it - pure revelation for me.
In a parallel universe, Tim and Sarah Smith would have been the ultimate power couple of the British rock.
She's gorgeous
3 Words: Jim, Tim, Genius.
I want a whole song of that slow part and guitar solo. It reminds me of Zappa's Watermelon In Easter Hay
That's the way we all go...
Quite Zappa-esque. I love it. ♥
WOW this band is really really good! The guitar solo 3:10 sounds like Just the Same guitar solo played by Gary Green from Gentle Giant.
I feel Jim is a bit ironic in that solo... too simple stuff ;)
This is harder than flamenco. I remember so well The Marquee....
Wow...there is no label for this kind of music
Extraordinary. It's hard to listen to relatively sane music after this.
Get well soon Tim.
Unreal.
How do you go about writing that whole section at 2:48?
sounds so simple, yet so fucking mind-boggingly complex

I'm English and that's what I hear
Who is him?
+Jon Scargill He's Jim!
Dr Seuss.
Were they actually this mean to Jim or it was all part of the act?
All part of the act. I've heard Tim and Jim were best friends and acted as a team as the masterminds of Cardiacs.
It’s like they were brothers.
At the gigs Tim would get everyone chanting "Who is him? It's Jim!" and then say that it was because Jim was so fat and ugly. All part of the unique Cardiacs' experience...
I thought it broke, at leat that's what I remember Tim sayin in the edit
Rog Watling
DVD IS OUT
one unintentional downvote
sell it in a shop
So similar to Gentle Giant, its insane
I don't think so, Giant were never this cheerful. Try Happy The Man.
@@baddogmaine Cheerful? As they sing "that's the way we all go"? Definitely energetic but there's a sardonic darkness in the lyrics.

A genre bender.
Suena igual al original estudio, y es difícil de interpretar. Bien
@johnnyrook68 Because Jim did unkind things to Tim when he was an infant.
