fake j's can do this too. This comes from the leather drying out and the moisture that comes out the leather crystalizes. It happens on non jordans as well
It's called bloom, when you work with really good leather it will release oils, probably from paint and leather but its more porous and better leather, what you have to do is wipe off with damp rag and then hit it with leather oil and boom you golden. gotta take good of good leather.
The glitter is from the spray finish over the black part. I think the box def expedites the glittering process tho. You can wipe it off but it comes back really quick.
WARNING!! The glitter/sparkles are solidified grains so be careful when your wiping them off. I used to do this with my 1s when glitter started to show up and once in a while I would drag one of them suckers across the panel of the shoe and it would actually scratch the leather so be careful doing this. I recommend dabbing the shoe first before wiping.
This has happened to me too with my breds. Royals and shadows are just fine. Last time I wore them like a year ago they were like spiked with a few of this glitter spots and I wiped off but just yesterday when I opened the box the whole shoe was like Grey and shiny. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue.
I’m so glad you made this video! I have this situation with my bred 1s I got from goat last year. I was thinking maybe they were fake because I wondered why it had all this glitter. I figured out they real but it’s something that always bothered me and it’s always in the back of my mind when I where them. Glad I’m not the only one
iAmTMCII I only got 3 1s breds, royals, and shadows. It started on my breds first and now it’s slowly appearing on the royals. But these are all the recent releases. 2016 and above. It’s the new leather I guess
I just got my mochas from goat and it had glitter all over the toebox and i was tweaking thinking i got a defective pair but this video really calmed me down thank you
I'm so glad I found this video! I have the same thing happening with the same shoe and it's 2016 DS from Nike. I thought it was from the wrapping, but you all are making sense.
I’m glad you made a video on this! Dude it was driving me crazy... I was like WTF, where does this glitter keep coming from lmao I was thinking it was my wife’s makeup or something smh. Not cool @Nike!
Thank you for posting. I bought two pairs of breds when they came out. The first ones finally bit the dust and I took the second pair out recently and it looked bad.
I noticed it also on my DS bred 1 also and also on my 1.5’s. I wiped them off and sprayed them with Angelus mink oil conditioner. It seemed to rehydrate the leather and they look new again. I left mine out to air out
My DS Breds from 2013 are in great condition, but my 2017 Royals have this glitter stuff on it too. Smh. Someone has to send their 1’s to a lab and find out the reason for this and a solution.😂
There's some videos on this. There's a video from SneakerHeadinTheBay that talks about this. Essentially, it's leather bloom and the leather needs to be condition due to changes in weather (hot and cold). He shows you how to condition it. Also there's another video from DNA Show where he says it's happening on 2015-2018 pairs. I own Bred from the 2013 releases and there's no glitter/bloom. I have 2 pairs of the Royal (cop off of Ebay and one from SNKR app) and they both were faded/glitter/etc. So it seems like it's just a poor product choice used by Nike.
Gonna bless y'all with some leather knowledge. I can confidently say it's because of the oxidation from leather oil it looks like glitter because oils + synthetic chemicals used to process leather seeping through the layer of synthetic plastic paint/coating from cheap leather Nike uses on majority of 1s. Natural oxidized oil "spew" from leather looks like solidified fat/mold. This is more noticeable on AJ1s because it's mostly leather, other Jordans outside of 1s use fake leather(Found out to be plastic from a shoe panel burn test.) on certain panels that's why it's so weird to see because it's not normally seen on other leather shoes.
I been brushing them off using a soft bristled brush and it’s done the trick however, due to me doing it several times a year the effected area which is usually the black part, the leather have started to look a bit charcoal grey. From research the bleed on the leather which comes out in the form of glitter is apparently the chemicals within the synthetic panels. Who knows but my DS bred and Royals now look like DS vintage
they were on my royal ones, my bred ones, but not on my chicago ones, and not on my shadows yet, but I'm assuming the shadow ones will also get the glitter
That glitter without a doubt is clear paint drying from aging. People saying their $1000 shoes. None of these were made for a retail over 200. Funny is that only my AJ 3 black cement is doing it .
So I found out that the cleaner reshoevin8r gets rid of that too. I suppose it’s because of the conditioners that those cleaners have specifically for these sneakers. But just an idea, pretty interesting to me. I’m sure other cleaners specifically for leather sneakers like Jordan’s should work as well.
@ give them a thick coat of mink oil and and let it soak in for an hour than come back and use a horse hair brush and brush them up. Follow up with a rag and wipe off the excess.
@@Djcimofficial I recently used “angelus” mink oil on my dark mocha highs. The black toe leather was doing that sparkle thing as well and it worked. I guess you just gotta keep moisture in the leather so they don’t do that.
It's the paper I took out all the paper an I don't have that issue anymore I had glitter on my bred 1s and the royal and my sbb 1s also my top 3 Jordan 1s As well
I have the same issue with my Breds, Royals, and 2013 Shadows. I actually sent the black ying yang 1’s back for the glitter issue. They were worn with some visible creasing/wear. My kicks are kept in the Nike box with the paper folded on the bottom. When I reached out to Nike, they said they had not heard of the problem and no reports had been made. Once sent back and after inspection, Nike stated they did not find any material or craftsmanship flaws, but the material was dusty due to lack of wearing. They offered a second inspection and I agreed, but they responded back stating they would not allow a second inspection. The decision was final.
I noticed My J1 royal toes and UNC toes are having this issue after I cleaned them. very frustrating but the wet rag did help a bit. Also you sound like Denzel Washington lol
This is happening to the black nubuck part of my 2019 Jordan 1 Low OG Mocha Travis Scott, 2017 Jordan 1 High Royal and Jordan 1 High Pine Green 1.0 as well. All on the black parts
I was bugging when i saw my breds like this but i think i have the answer it's the paper in the box, when i leave my DS Jordans in box with paper i think the paper gives off like a fibers or something on to the shoe.
Once you wipe them you have to wear them and lLEAVE THEM OUT! putting them back in the box will bring it back. I had to do this with mine. The glitter won’t come back when you leave them out. No box no drop front nothing
You are 1000% not the only one. My breds are damn near DS and I pulled them out and I saw this. I thought it was the crep protect that I sprayed on them. It freaked me out for a sec because I thought that something that’s supposed to protect my shoes also ruined them. I didn’t think to wipe the shoes off because I didn’t wanna fuck them up even more but I will give it a try. Glad to see that it’s gone off your pair tho.
I have a DS pair of 2018 bred toe 1’s that I’ve kept in the box and this glitter effect does not happen to them. It only does on those Jordan 1’s from like 2016 because of something that is in the leather. From what I’ve read it doesn’t happen to the Shadows or any other black pair after 2016.
Not true. I have the shadows and I just had to wipe them off from glitter. But this is the 1st time I’ve noticed it on them since I’ve had them. I have a pair of DS black cement 3s that I noticed it on first though

Its the oils in the black leather. It's from exposer to air. The oils crystalize over time.
It’s from the finish on the leather. I used nail polish remover and lightly wiped over the black leather to get the finish off. No more glitter since
Really you used nail polish and didn't take off any color? So taking off the finish is all it takes? Thanks

After wiping spray mink oil leather conditioner

My 2014 barons are just sittin on a shelf and they also have it!

I use this glitter effect to check legit pairs. I notice the fake pairs don’t have the glitter effect.
Man thanks for this video. My breds and royals have them.
I opened my court purples from 2018 after a couple of years and was caught off guard because the shoe was COVERED in glitter lol thanks for the video!
IMO... The 2018 Shadow is the ONLY Jordan 1 with a different black leather upper, that probably won’t glitter.
