    ZL1 is so beautiful.
    I've always dreamed of having a Camaro since I was in high school.
    My mother recently bought me one but it was just an RS. Nice. but not the best.
    Great starting car. But I cannot wait until I save enough and can buy myself a ZL1.

    What an absolutely sexy, beastly car. I haven't been a fan of Camaros in the past but this new gen is SO good I would actually consider buying a 2SS over a C7 Stingray (Eventually I'd trade it in for a Corvette) I applaud Chevy, they've absolutely killed it on their sports cars these past few years.

  • @towertrash96

    Biggest problems I have with the ZL1 @ 3300 miles so far, and they are minor issues:
    1. The location of the T/C control. I have the 6M and constantly hit it on/off
    2. The locations of the radio controls. This is by far the worst of all 3
    3. The seats are a little narrow but livable
    4. Not sure if the rubber mats are standard or if they're the premium mats, they are a complete death trap for a car with a clutch. I tossed them out within the first 300 miles.
    Other than that, I don't miss my GTR and I'm glad I moved over to the ZL1.

      tower74 how does the zl1 compare to your gtr

    • @adamgriffin
      @adamgriffin 7 лет назад +1

      tower74 Dude tell me about that traction control button location! You realize real quick when you accidentally turn it off lol 😂

    • @towertrash96
      @towertrash96 7 лет назад +4

      The T/C button is only the first stage of turning off the "helper mode" of this car. When you actually follow the steps of hitting the T/C twice and it then will bring up a sub menu of more traction options. That's where you can really see how this car will get away from you in a hurry if you have no idea on how to drive. The GTR took all that away. Don't get me wrong, I was able to put the GTR sideways many times, but nothing like this car.

    • @towertrash96
      @towertrash96 7 лет назад +2

      Too be honest they both have their plusses and minuses. The GTR was, well a race car. It was noisy as shit, you could hear everything. The ride wasn't that smooth too. The ZL1, is quitter (except for that whine from the supercharger...good thing) and it's a more comfortable ride. You're not feeling or hearing everything.
      Power wise and handling. Obviously the GTR is AWD but the ZL1 will keep up with it in the corners. It does have a tendency to try to walk on you on corners but nothing I would say that is out of control. If you are at the point, it's probably too late anyways. Knowing that the car is on the edge and that it can take off on you if you don't respect it, is a plus. The GTR, well that you could sling around all day long and if you got too crazy the computer would step in to remind you that you are not in control.

    • @christopherwalker6056
      @christopherwalker6056 7 лет назад

      tower74 Really? So what is that you like better about the ZL1 than the GTR? I would consider the GTR to be closer to a 'super car' and the ZL1 a 'muscle car', and the GTR to outperform the camaro in top speed, handling and even accelaration. Am I wrong? But, one thing I will say, as far as the 'fun factor' (doing burnouts, drifting etc) I would think the GTR not as fun to drive considering it has all wheel drive so you can't really break the back end loose and and have that kind of squirrely fun. Also, I would guess that the GTR would jump off the line quicker than the ZL1 since all 4 tires grab, as the camaro sits & spins for a second or two.

  • @shatz72

    Nice review and great camera work and audio. I have watched a lot videos on the ZL1 and I like your technique, flow and overall content. Job well done my friend. I actually own a 2017 ZL1 and I absolutely frickin love the damn thing. Brings a smile to my face every time. Some people say it's a mid life crisis but I say I just have the need for speed. Do yourself a favour and upgrade your Stingray to a ZL1. Cheers.

    • @SeeFoodDie
      @SeeFoodDie 7 лет назад +2

      Shatz 72 +1 Upgraded my C7 to the new ZL1 and really pleased. Comfortable dd, fast as hell, grip for days, with very nice touch points. A few of my buddies have done the same and really happy with the result as well. Camaro used to be a step down, now it's on par or better than the Corvette. Love both cars though.

    • @onefastc4610
      @onefastc4610 7 лет назад +1

      xenfreder The Camaro will never be on par or better than the Corvette. Never has and never will be.

    • @shatz72
      @shatz72 7 лет назад +3

      OneFastC4 - I will say this...the Corvette wins in the overall look BUT the Camaro wins with the 10 speed vs the 8 speed in the Corvette. The law suit for owners of the 2015-2017 Z06 overheating and going into limp mode is a not helping the brand or reputation. Finally Randy Popst admitted he felt the ZL1 felt more planted and handled ever so slightly better on the track. I am not trying to start a war but I originally had on order a Z06 but switched to the ZL1 and saved myself about 26K. Bottom line is I'd be very happy with either car and if the Camaro is classified as the little brother to the Corvette I am just fine with that.

    • @adamgriffin
      @adamgriffin 7 лет назад +4

      Shatz 72 Yeah same here, my dealer had a ZO6 with the Z07 package parked next to the ZL1. Thought about it for a second, and left the dealer with the ZL1 absolutely no regrets!

    What can I say? Another video well done 👍. I loved your spin on the driving segment of the review and how you went into describing the practical features of the car, besides just the over-the-top track ability of the car (stuff like the infotainment, interior lighting, seats). Totally agree with what you showed in the beginning; like the Hellcat, this car offers so much for the fraction of the cost of its competitors. I only hope that someday you get a Z06 or the new ZR1. I'd love to see a video of you taking that to the track someday!! Keep the videos coming man, awesome work. Oh and that intro, simply beautiful.

    That's was the best video I have seen with so much good information very detail oriented. I knew the ZL1 camaro was a high performance car but man had no idea on those specs and the luxury you have for a track car. Cost seemed very reasonable espeacially when compared to luxury import sports cars. All I have to say is WOW!!!!!!! Awesome video I love your channel and can't wait to see your next GM car video

  • @Sprocketboy1956
    @Sprocketboy1956 7 лет назад +4

    An interesting and thoughtful review of an impressive car. I do agree with the other comments about the speed of narration--in public speaking courses everyone is first taught to slow down their delivery! But otherwise nice camera work and good presentation. With respect to the Camaro itself, all the reviews that I have read have really pointed out the terrible visibility but this video does not make it look so bad. I have a C6 Corvette and would not want to trade away its excellent visibility (except when backing up to park). Secondly, there was also a lot of criticism about the cheapness of the interior compared to the Mustang but I am not convinced there is much difference. Why is it you can only get black or "ash gray" interiors on these cars? Dull dull dull.

    In test laps of the nurburgring, the brakes in the ZL1 were so strong that the beads of the tires were slipping along the rim and they made a full 360 degree rotation from the starting point.

    A well thought-out, mature, professional review.
    Thank you for respecting the vehicle during your test drive.
    I loathe the thought of these high performance vehicles being flogged right out of the gate. Especially during the test drives when these motors are at their most vulnerable.
    In fact, when we bought our previous vehicle I remember watching some mook doing repeated launches in a new Golf R. And I mean _brand new_ too. It barely made it out of PDI before he started abusing it. I even remember making a comment to my salesman. Something along the lines of - _"I feel bad for the poor sap who eventually purchases _*_that_*_ car."_
    He just motioned with his hand as though to say, "Out of sight - out of mind".
    Stay classy my friend.

    The comparisons you made against the Carrera gt and others is not only accurate but also shows that you don't need the prestige to have a really fun car.
    There's no doubt that the exotics have a place in the hearts of enthusiasts.....it's just getting harder and harder to justify paying triple the price for performance that might not be as good as 70k camaro.
    The 10 speed is shared with Ford which is good for keeping costs low for potential buyers.
    The zl1 has performance that would rip the front end off a civic.....not to mention the fact it looks extremely aggressive. Great bang for your buck.....but I'll stick with my c6

    • @CarsCostsandTechnology
      @CarsCostsandTechnology  7 лет назад +5

      Some of the cars on the list of lap times that rank far below the ZL1 make me cringe... Cars that are still selling for 4-5 times the price of the ZL1 even after a few years of depreciation. I certainly don't want to undermine some of those legendary supercars, but numbers don't lie. I can only imagine what the new ZR1 is going to be capable of after spending a little time with this ZL1!

    I have the new GT3 and this Camaro is a car that gives you almost the same performance for $100k less depending on options( these newer GT3 owners are worried more about deviated stitching that going to the track, loading the cars with 60-80k worth of worthless options) This Camaro is one that will be in my garage soon.

    I've watched a couple of your videos now, you are a good presenter, a good speaker, and I like how you discuss some of the basic of costs of ownership. Also, Greer, SC is only about 2 hrs from where I live. I've never owned a V8 muscle car, but who knows. I almost bought a C7 Corvette on my most recent purchase but practicality won out this time, maybe next time. I hang out with lots of Corvette guys each year at the Petite LeMans, if you haven't been, it's worth the drive.

    Really nice review thoroughly enjoyed. What a nice car! If only you could see out of the thing . I'm a GM shareholder and I've thought about writing GM CEO Mary Barra, who is quite a car gal, she personally owns a manual Z06, and asking her why they didn't rework this car to give better visibility. Even though this car, at least on paper is better than than the Mustang, it's lagging in sales, in my opinion it's because of the "no visibility styling ". But, boy does it go and handle no doubt!

    The ZR-1 more than likely will also have a TVS S/C but if it's going to be the same size as this 1.9 unit that the ZL-1 and Z06 remains to be seen with the DOHC LT-5 powerplant. The only complaint I have with the Gen 6 Camaro is the tank vision slits they pass off as side windows in back and front. Hard to check blind spots when trying to merge onto highway on ramps and lanes.

    Question for you. As a youtuber, after the rush of making a vid that gets 1.7 Million views does one lose motivation to make videos knowing how hard it is to find that next 1 M video? I hope to find out one day but thought I would ask. Your channel is one of a few that inspired me to go for it. Thanks for that!

    • @CarsCostsandTechnology
      @CarsCostsandTechnology  3 года назад +1

      Great question. To this day I still have no idea how many views a video will get when I upload it. A few months ago I uploaded a video that ended up getting over 400,000 views, and I thought it wouldn't be that popular. More recently I uploaded a video that had much more action in it that only got 4,000 views lol. I've learned over the years that you can't make content strictly because you think it will get views, or avoid content that you don't think will get views. Make what you enjoy and don't stress about it. Good luck with your channel 👍🏻

    Ceramic brakes. I think for "daily driven cars" are unnecessary. Most of us will never really push our cars that hard...enough to see any benefit on the street. Driving at "near speed limits". But the option does help sell cars and pad the bill for the car. :)
    Also, I would have liked to have heard your impressions of the "supercharger lag". Was it "minimal"? Did they power come on suddenly and progressively. How noticeable was it? I prefer naturally aspirated cars.

    You need amica insurance. They will send you check at end of year and no questions asked when you have issue. Liberty mutual wanted to put bondo on a z06 rear bumper when I got hit before.

    My father worked/retired from the Ford Motor Glass Company in Nashville many many years ago. Obviously, I grew up on Mustangs. I actually like the Camaro 1LE better than any Mustang that is out now. If I get one, my dad can't ever know about as even though he is 90 now, he would drive up to Kansas City and beat my ass. Thanks for the video.....

    That Bradshaw dealer sticker above the ZL1 logo would irritate me beyond reason. When I pay a premium price for a car of this caliber (whether a ZL1 Camero or my 2016 C7), I do not expect to be a rolling billboard for anything other than an amazing ride. When I picked up my C7, it was written into the contract that no stickers would be attached, anywhere. Sure, put your license plate frame on there if you must, but never anything permanent. I’m not buying a second hand Kia.

    As a 2010 Camaro owner I keep wondering why no one ever mentions how useless the sun visors are in every Camaro since mine. It's tiny. Why is this never addressed and why hasn't it been fixed yet? Come on Chevy, get your act together and actually turn that thing to the side and see how little of the window it blocks.

      Cool. Similarly, over the past 12 years, the 50 or so (I lost count) Mustang variants that have been desperately introduced have underperformed and in many cases are more expensive. Worse, they got uglier, while the Camaro evolved.
