I hope he's okay we both grew up in Jersey he was only a couple of towns away from me! I believe Jon is completely aware there are major problems with his vocal cords. Maybe he even had a no guarantee's surgery. Only he knows. I believe he did this short 2022 tour to prove to himself that this really is the end of the good old days. He needs to hold his head up HIGH and walk off the stages that have given US 40 years of rock & roll heaven. Thanks for the memories Jon. We will keep on loving you with every CD that turns. Bryan Adams have always had really good technique.. He knows not to pull chest on high notes etc.. I am pretty sure Jon bon jovi damaged his voice on early tours pushing his voice too much without a proper consideration of proper technique. Also heard that he started smoking heavily on one tour and also had a drink or two. I am pretty sure Bryan Adams never touched a cig or heavy drinking when he was touring.. He probably developed vocal nodules on his vocal chords.. but on the last tour there seem to be one other factor.. some disease that we do not know of.

So Jon has known for years he has had issues and been trying to hide it and bluff people. Thats why at the shows it doesnt sound so bad as the audio and videos we see sound. Thank you man....seriously, you don't just suddenly completely forget how to sing in tune, come in at the wrong time, slurrs his words etc etc. Ther is something seriously wrong with him! He needs to be checked out medically...because as a pro singer, who's admittedly not a Bon Jovi fan...but I have always appreciated his great song writing, long career, and truthfully...there was a point much later in his career after he worked with a vocal, coach that he actually sounded his best ever. Now that was probably 10 years ago or so. But I think we are talking medical...and that could be physical, psychological, or hate to say it but we could be looking at substance abuse, alcohol abuse etc. The reason why I'm saying that is because I'm hearing him slurring as he tries to talk to the audience...I've even heard some singled out vocals wher he litterally is slurring his vocal parts...that is something I've never heard personally. lEt's quiot trashing the guy and maybe hope he gets some help. We just lost Taylor Hawkins at 50...after an amazing drum & vocal performance...how many of you saw that coming? I surely didn't! I'd love for a medical professional, speach therapist, vocal trainer (a real vocal trainer please...sorry all of the 1000's of RUclips vocal geniuses!) Seriously, I'm afraid we are about to have yet another morning or mourning...know what I mean? I hate to even say that because I've always heard the guy was on the straight & narrow...esp on tour etc. But something is wrong...there's way too many singers 60 and over singing and belting out far more difficult vocals than what he's singing..and like Erik said...this guy is a pro, he did not suddenly just forget how to sing. He;s forgetting words...and even mumbling things for an entire verse or chorus that I don't know what the Hell he's saying...and I do mean saying, not singing...because at times he's literally just talking the lyrics...or more like mumbling like I said before. I've seen something like this before and I hate to say it...it turned out to be the early stages of dimentia. Not that this is that serious...but I'm willing to bet that there's something medically, or possibly substance abuse, alcohol etc. Whatever it is I hope he get's the help he needs...even if it's a new vocal coach lol! But please everyone stop saying put him out to pasture at 60...that's just silly. Go listen to 71 year old Phil Collins, who's disabled and in a wheelchair, who unbelievably nailed it at the Genesis concert I just recently saw. I could name 100 singers at least 60 & over who sing much more difficult, higher ranged, harder style...even heavy metal (Hello Rob Halford) who still nail their stuff. Okay I'm done for a second time tonight & I'll leave it alone. Again, I hope we don't wake up to the next morning sad tribute bto another Rock star who gave joy to millions of fans all over the world yet again. Peace & Love everyone...and please let's all take care of each other. Love, Robby/aka Jade

Look at Mickey Thomas. Still singing that ridiculously high range in the original keys and nailing it. Like you said, there are plenty of singers that are still delivering at his age. Robin Zander. I don’t think age is nearly as much of an issue as bad technique and Jon never had good technique even when he sang well, in my opinion. I agree though as far as at seeming like possibly a medical issue. Losing his vocal range is one thing but the slurring and being out of time is a whole other issue. Hopefully he is ok and hopefully the people around him will have a heart to heart with him and tell him his can’t continue. It isn’t fair to his fans.

already in 1995 you could hear his voice less “heavy” and more thin than 1993, however to most it’s not noticeable. However, if you compare shows like wembley 1995 to yokohama 1996, you could hear it thinning in the 1996 show. jon’s vocal technique for all his life was a nasal voice, because you see his mouth really big on hard songs, even back to 1986. I think it kept thinning closer to 2000, he lost more range, then jon became more nasal to preserve his vocal range. but you could already hear his nasal voice in 1996 on some high parts and even 1995 if you’re observant…

Totally agree. This year he completely lost it and it’s so sad. I think he really started to struggle in 2015 when they did the short tour and - that’s when I noticed that his voice got changed, but still he gave it all. I saw them in Israel and it was an amazing show and full of energy .
In 2017 his voice got down and he struggled even more but still was great, as you said he could sing.
In 2019 they preformed again here in Israel but at this point I thought it was just too much for him so I didn’t go. I didn’t want to remember him like this when his voice betrayed him… i want to remember him as the great leader and performer that he was until 2013.
And about 2022 … the situation just breaks my heart . I mean what’s left to say he is a perfectionist and he knows he can’t deliver it anymore so I really think this is their last big tour. And as for why his voice got so deteriorated I think it’s because of the all COVID-19 pandemic, you know a frontman that’s not able to perform in front of a crowd for 2 years - got to take a toll on you emotionally … just like Richie’s departure took its toll after 2013.

I don't think I have ever seen something this odd to be honest. Whitney Houston's last few tours were really bad from what I remember, but most people knew why and it made sense, but still, she could sing somewhat. This is so bizarre, and the fact that there is no acknowledgement makes it ever crazier. You are totally right on here in my opinion. I think eventually we will find out, or at least be given an explanation. He looks real tight when he is singing, and almost has a freaked out look on his face.

What you run into with dropping that far down is that you can't push air the same way you can at a higher pitch. This naturally takes away from the feel of the song. Sometimes that's what sounds so different.

frankly it is true, hardly anyone seemed to notice his deterioration. it was much better before, but he was noticeable that it was getting worse. I have never seen any video about it though, until this tour (with a few exceptions)
(At the end of 2013 his voice was destroyed! He wasn't just getting older. In 2018 he was good, but not that good; in 2019 he wasn't good and now it's worse)
You did a mistake.. when you compare 2013 with other years you must compare 2013 at the beginning and 2013 at the end! It's very important because people think that he started getting worse in 2015, but that's not true... He started in 2013 (i know that this isn't the real point of the video, but it's quite inportant)
(I love jon's voice until 2013, i like jon's voice until 2018, but in 2018 it was bad abd now it is terrible)
Imagine that I have already seen jon live several times. I would pay for a 2019 show but not a 2022 show. Obviously, having never seen them live, I would pay gold for a 2022 show

No, the decline started in 2003. In 2007, however, Jon regained a huge part of his former abilities and then was in very good shape vocally until 2012, which was when the first subtle signs of his final decline started to occur. By late 2013 his high register had given out again, but a REALLY bad level was only reached during the Australian leg of the This House tour in late 2018, and since then he’s been atrocious 95% of the time.

The timing is way off as well. If it was hearing issues that can easily be remedied by in ear monitors. This is major damage to the cords and may also be neurological. His voice was so bad in the 2018 tour that fans were walking out by the dozen at stadiums in Australia. Plus the sound mix drowns Jon out so much you dont notice it as much, Even now you have some deluded fans that think its the bootlegs and videos that are lying and that Jon sounds good in the arena. A lot of people i spoke to in Australia said the sound was woeful. As they have to mix it so much now that you hear the band more than Jons vocals. So the sound comes across as muddy. Somehow mobile phones and audio recordings pick up a more true reflection of Jons vocals. But i was cringing so bad during most songs. I didn't even stay for the encore. There’s nothing really wrong with his voice except mainly these 3 things:
    - he suffers a little bit from what they call old mans voice which means that as you get older the vocal chords become a little bit more stiff and less pliable
    - he pulls up chest because as you get older it for many singers becomes more difficult to go through the passaggio from chest into headvoice
    - he uses the wrong vowel modifications
In order for him to partially recover his voice he needs to:
    - find a good vocal teacher so he or she can teach him
    - practice vocal warmups/cooldowns and scales that bring more elasticity and pliability in his voice
    - relearn how to sing through his passaggio from chest into his headvoice so he doesn’t reach up for high notes or press down for low ones anymore and will be able to sing through his range in a connected, easy manner, with a stable larynx, without any “breaks” or sudden changes of tone quality
    - relearn the correct vowel modifications so that instead of going to wide he will be able to go up the scale through the passaggio with a narrow (rouded) vowel which allows to sing from chest to head with no breaks, no straining, with a stable larynx.
He had an amazing voice, I hope he takes care of it and uses the time, patience and effort to bring it back.

He still sounded quite good during the Crush tour, had issues during the Bounce, HAND, and the early parts of the LH tour, but from 2008-2011 there was a bit of an "indian summer" period where he sounded just as good as he did during the Crush tour, if not slightly better. His voice started faltering slightly toward the end of The Circle tour in July-August 2011, but stayed in relatively good shape until after Richie left the band in March 2013, and for the remainder of that year it declined to the point where he could no longer hit any high notes at all, though his voice still had a very full tone to it. Something happened in late 2014 or early 2015 that left his voice a lot thinner, which slowly further deteriorated over the past half-decade to the present moment where he practically can't sing at all anymore.

The thing is, I just the other day heard him singing from a live show in 2018 and he did sound about the same as he does today. Maybe it was a bad show at the end of the tour or something, but it was very similar. I think it’s been going downhill for years and I don’t know if it’s lack of practice, some physical issue with his vocal cords, or maybe something with his hearing. Whatever the case, he truly needs to stop. He is totally soiling his legacy by continuing to tour and do live shows with his voice this way. It truly makes it seem like a money grab, at the cost of destroying the faith of longtime fans. it’s different if this was something that happened while he was on tour and there was nothing he could do about it. For which, most artists would cancel the tour. But, this has obviously been an ongoing and worsening issue over the past four or five years. something that he had to be well aware of in advance of doing live shows this year. so then, being a singer with a 5 to 6 octave voice myself, why would anyone want to put themselves through that after such a long and storied career? I know if I have a bad song, I’m upset with myself and embarrassed that I put people through that. Not to mention a night… so I totally understand what has to be going on in his mind. it has to be devastating, knowing where your voice once was and having no ability to course correct in order to make it better.
So then the question is, what is actually going on with his voice? Has he totally destroyed his vocal cords over the years by singing incorrectly? did he destroy his hearing and that is adding to the issues? Or, is there something else going on? I think he truly needs to come out and be very honest with the fans. Because a lot of people paid a lot of money to see him live and everyone of them had to leave that show A little confused, a little upset and then wandering like me, what is truly going on? We’ve obviously seen many singers over the years take their songs down a couple keys to make it easier to not only sing a song, but be able to do a tour over many months without straining or destroying their voice. then you have people like Tommy Shaw who continue to this day, to sound as good or better than they did back and their hay day.
I imagine he has to say something. As I’m sure he has heard the rumblings online of people‘s concern. Maybe not… It makes me wonder whether or not this may have been a contributing factor to Richie leaving, not wanting to put himself, the band or the fans through what maybe he felt was going to turn into a train wreck on a tour. It’s just saddening, because once again… As a singer, I know the heartache of not being able to hit a song, a night and beyond. You, in your mind, know you can do it or know you used to be able to do it and you can hear the notes in your head but you’re vocal cords won’t allow you to hit them. It makes me wonder if there isn’t something more nefarious going on and he knows it and wanted to essentially say goodbye to the fans without them knowing what’s going on. Making it a more happy occasion as opposed to something sad. I don’t know. But it is definitely concerning as I imagine it is to all of his fans.

His voice started thinning out around 2000 during the Crush era but it was barely noticeable due to his great singing ability. For most of the 2000s he could put on a great show in spite of the fact that he was gradually losing his range and becoming more nasally. The big drop off came during the "What About Now" era. Richie left the band and it turns out that the Richie had been covering up Jon's weaknesses for years. That being said he was NEVER as bad as he is right now. I think years of touring and the smoking habit he picked up had finally caught up with him. And now someone needs to tell him to retire and save what little voice he has left. Also RIP Alec John Such

I saw Bon Jovi in the UK 2013 and Jon still sounded really good then, saw a video from Brisbane at the end of 2013 and there was a noticeable decline but still he was hitting the notes quite well. I saw various videos from 2017 and 2018 and there was more of a decline but Jon was still managing. I went to a show at Wembley in 2019 again Jon struggled but it was passable, he performed Always and just about nailed it, and I did feel at the time maybe they do need to just take it down a step for the next tour. I seen some of his studio stuff during the pandemic and it sounded like his voice was improving again but now I've seen these latest videos from this tour and there is something really wrong somewhere and I don't think it is his age, something far worse has caused his voice to suddenly go bad, he certainly wouldn't be able to nail Always now and I fear his voice is done for good.

*If it isn't any health problem/issue, I really think the main reason is that the band didn't pause enough anymore. JBJ was always working like a machine. After the big New Jersey-World Tour, the band paused, even then JBJ released the "Blaze of Glory" album [ around the same time Sambora recorded his first solo album (funny thing: Tico Torres was the drummer on "Stranger In This Town" and David Bryan played the keyboards.) "Keep The Faith" was a comeback album out of nowhere. Followed by "CrossRoad" and "(these Days)". and so on.... JBJ never took a really long break to give his voice time to rest long enough. Hi Erick, Thanks for the video. I was a pro guitar man Europe festivals blah blah. I think you are spot on about John's voice, but...there is a joker in the pack. I am based in the UK. One of our finest singers was Paul Young. He had a hit with "Every Time You Go" around 1985. He was an awesome singer, he sang at the original Live Aid. This year, he was playing festivals in the UK. The reviews were awful. We are not talking about losing the top end, dropping a semitone, we are talking about a voice destroyed. No pitching, a seeming lag in timing, Heartbreaking to see. I saw some videos online of disgruntled people who went to see him and it was shocking. Not a bit out of tune, just awful. How could a singer suddenly just go out of tune so much? As singers get old their range shrinks, but their pitching is usually still right. What could affect these people so badly? My brother was a super fit tennis coach, strict health freak. In 2020 he got Covid. That fucked him. He can barely walk 100 meters now. his lungs have been scarred by the virus with devastating consequences. I did a bit of research and Paul Young had Covid which nearly killed him. Then I read the John had covid. Both great great singers now their voices seem to be destroyed. Maybe that is why these guys are struggling. As for why they are still trying to tour, they may have signed contracts that they cannot afford to cancel, I am damn sure as the great singers they once were, they know the can't cut it anymore. Money...I enjoy your posts, do you think John is lip syncing now?

It’s not a mystery why his voice is going/gone… like me, he is a cigarette smoker. He’s 13 years older than me and at my age with decades of smoking my voice is far scratchier. You’d have to be a longtime smoker to really get/feel the difference within your own voice over time but it’s finally done his vocals in… that and decades of touring.
