I very much appreciate you making these Hemmingway kits. I built the die holder and your video helped a great deal. I ordered this kit and am building it know. Not ever having to work off plans before it make it much more understandable after seeing you build it. Thanks.
It's great to see some of these fantastic George H. Thomas designs come to life so many years later. Do you have plans to make any of the projects in the Model Engineer's Workshop Manual that aren't sold as kits by Hemingway? (That retractable topslide is a real humdinger!)
Finally I made there. So much to care about these days. I've been convinced to make one of these. Bar stock of any kind as long it's metal, is not to come about unless you pay a fortune. That is most companies require you to buy full length ~ 6 m. Add to that taxes/VAT that makes it very difficult to buy bar stock cut to length as a hobbyist. So Hemingway is where I look too. Despite they are in the UK and I live on the continent. Tell that to legislators!
one of them "must have" tools. i think it can be used as a holder for indicator as well, if another arm is added.. anyway, as always great stuff mate! would love to have one too!))
Having watched a number of your videos , I am ordering the height gage kit. It will be very helpful setting up lathe tolls. Please keep the videos coming.
About the cut outs in the blade, if done right you can use them as a rest fore your wire gages when measuring your single point cut threads. Rest two on the top one one the bottom, obviously you’ll have to hold one end of the bottom gage wire but it is infinitely easier that way.
Ah great job! Another fantastic project. I can’t believe how your channel isn’t huge yet! Love the details and close ups of everything. I’d love to be entered in to enjoy this beautiful piece.

Très beau travail ! J'aime beaucoup la précision de vos commentaires ainsi que la qualité professionnelle de vos vidéos, bravo ! Bonjour depuis la France !😃
Thanks for these Hamingway series, great little shop improvement projects I’ve never heard of. Great Christmas presents for the home machinist too. Really enjoy your quality of work and the ease and breeze you approach and execute project. Keep them coming! Maybe a shop tour? Count me in for the competition!
Some time ago I wanted to start on making 'a lot' of small projects in my basement workshop in Denmark🇩🇰 Then came the war in Ukraine and I can't get myself down there it all seems so senseless. Why would I make a hight gauge, why would I make a finger plate, why would I make anything in the shop. Well it's a looming depression I think and I'm not worried only irritated. Well anyway I enjoy watching your video(s).
Thanks. Always great content. Please keep those projects and tips coming. No tip is too small or insignificant. Much appreciated ! (btw, excellent cinematography, lighting, and narration) Also, please consider me for your give away project, if you are so inclined. Take care.
I would like to be entered but since I don’t have a lathe set up yet should I be selected perhaps it could be donated to a high school machinist class for their use. Nice looking gage
Hiya Jonesey. The reason why you have so much support is because you have a great passion in what you do. Great work as always. I don't need one of them as i have various other methods to hand. Regards. Steve.
I'm relatively new to this channel, but I've been binge watching since I found it. I'd love to win this gauge. It would be easily the best tool in my shop 😅
I would very much like to be entered in the giveaway, but I see it's an older video. I must admit I have only started with my lathe and mill and am a bit clumsy at the moment but at 67 years young, I am really enjoying this new hobby. Thanks for the great video and looking forward to more. Doug from Canada...
Thanks for watching Doug, the draw is closed now unfortunately. Watch out for the next one! How are you getting on with the lathe and mill? Any projects you’d particularly like to see in the channel?
I just downloaded the Hemingway catalogue, they have some really nice kits at very reasonable prices. Now I just have to wait for that big lottery win to get a workshop and machinery to build them 🤣 Until then I'll just have to wait for your next upload. These videos are great 👍
Gosh. Such a fine build, filmed in broadcast quality. I would like to be entered in the competition. Boy would I like to win such a fine tool. If I don’t, you have inspired me to try and make one myself. I am in awe. Thank you for sharing 👏👏👍😀
I'm new subscriber, i was captivated by your hypnotic videos, i love them! they are like ASMR to me, thanks for your great job! by the way, i will love to enter in the giveaway contest please
I do believe the point of the cut out in the bottom of the blade is for flatness. What I mean is it is hard to keep a long surface flat. It is easier to flatten a part with minimal surface contact. I have worked with several grinders, but the guy that was thee most accurate, always placed his part across (2) .25" gauge pins. That was the only connection to the table. (Only for finish passes. .0004" at a time)
Great video! Just found your channel and it is certainly amongst the best home machining channel's on RUclips, please keep going and I'm sure you will be huge. Please put me in for the draw.
Always look forward to watching your videos. Love. making tools for use on my lathe sadly don't have a mill at present maybe one day finance permitting. Thanks for sharing please enter me in to the competition kind regards Shaun
Really enjoying your videos! Hope you earn lots more subscribers. I would guess the relief under the blade is for sharpening then you can sharpen the tip without creating an angle.
Please enter me in your drawing. It looks fantastic. After a few years of disassembly/reassembly my lathe is just about ready for showtime. This tool would be a great addition.
Thanks to your channel, my list of projects that I want to build is getting pretty long. Keep up the good work. Please enter me in the contest. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing a the fine build! I'd like to enter the competition as a centre height gauge would be a great addition to my little lathe. Cheers /Patrik
I wonder if the relief behind the sharp edges of the knife blades is meant for use with tools that tend to "dive" in use? (ie boring bars, parting tools, etc...)

Hey Jonesey, a great build. I still can't understand why there are two fingers in the kit. What is the second one for?
It’s so you can measure the centre height from two positions, ie the cross slide and the lathe bed.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck 😂 But I wouldn't mind a cool little height gauge, I'd like to be entered into the giveaway. 👍👍

Another great tool build. I would love to be in the draw for this please.
The knurling tool is now done apart from the hardening. Most of my problems were down to my tooling as discussed previously and the lack of a rotary table which would have made things safer! My only real issue was the adjusting nut which the drawing calls out for 1" blind threaded hole and a Tommy bar. The adjustment screw is 1.5" so you can't adjust the full capacity of the tool. I made the adjusting nut 1.6" threaded 1.5" blind hole. It may be that I missed something but worth checking out so you don't have to make it twice 😉.
Thanks for the videos!
You're in! Good luck! Thanks for the info on the knurling tool. I plan on building a rotary table before attempting this.
