Me and morb really rushed this one but we pushed because we would like to keep following our tradition of uploading songs on halloween... although it's technically not halloween but at the same time halloween...

I was thinking changelings at first as well. I kinda interpreted it as a child dying at birth and never being able to experience humanity, but I'm really not too sure.

I'm late as shit to this, but I honestly think the thing about the baby being abandoned in the woods isn't exactly right. We see the crib, the view being from a child, with the mobile hanging above. We see this at the beginning AND at the end. At the end, we see it begin to fade in and out, with a vague reddish tint. This imagery is coupled with a wet, slimey sound, conveniently matching the beat of the song. But that sound is awfully reminiscent of a heart beating - a heart that slows and stops. This implies that the infant died in the crib, not in the woods.
I think the Thing was in fact an infant, but one that was unfortunately claimed by SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Sometimes babies just fucking die. No reason. They're safe, comfortable, they're watched and taken care of, but they still just die. It's sad. There's no medical reason we've found for it. The Thing was an infant that died unexpectedly for no reason, and came back as a shambling mass. Is it a ghost? Who knows.
This does leave the question as to why it's in the woods, and I don't exactly have much of an answer. Maybe it slithered away from home? Or maybe it woke up long after the house it died in was torn down? Or maybe it was just an artistic decision? Who knows. In any case, this song still slaps two years later.

I’m late to replying, but maybe it was buried in the woods, and the spirit followed the body there.
Something happened to it and it wanted things like a babies does, only this thing wanted to be a person, the thing it wanted to grow up into, now its just a black mass that consumes in hope of taking the parts that it wants, weather this actually works for the creature is up for debate.

this song sounds like someone realizing the things they don't have and how they feel betrayed by the world. driven by obsession, they look for these qualities in other people, keeping them around because that's the only way they'll ever feel complete. claiming them as their own, they feel as though they have acquired these traits as their own.

I think this creature might be a "chanak" a legend from Philippines, chanaks are baby that died in a mother's womb or baby that dies early in birth and lives mainly in woods or forest because some mothers will abandon them cuz their unwanted or unplanned. Chanak looks out for their prey by crying like an actual child and when someone approached them, they'll eat them or sometimes they do want to go back to their own mother and kill them for revenge or because they genuinely want to be with their mother. And the "thing" in this music is wanting a features of a living creatures that he no longer posses, this must be a perspective view of chanak wanting to live like a human like they once before. But they never felt humane about it, they just consume their desire which is lives. If you guys want to see what a Chanak look like, you can see it in Trese Netflix anime series, it might help you

There is a lonely boy who lost himself so much, that he doesn't perceive himself as a human but as a "thing". The only friends he has are those rabbits, who give him a feeling of warmth and companionship. But the boy is already so disturbed that he cannot handle his "feelings" other than to project them onto his friends. He only can feel himself through others. He only can feel his fear an pain when he inflicts it on others. That's why he "hugs" the rabbits. He strangles them to fear and then to death so he can feel their fear and pain. Horrible and sad. Great piece of art. Altough I would prefer something less horrific. 😔
I feel like this is about monsters under the bed, but the song is told from their point of view. Like they are outcasts that just want to be a part of normal life.

This honestly made me so sad. It actually reminds me of a character I made, they're actually also kind of a black mass with eyes too..
They're a parasitic sort of creature, many similar to them roam and infect healthy people, turning them practically into zombies. Living, infected zombies.
They sort of gained a consciousness after someone experimented on them, mixing healthy, normal citizens of the kingdom they rule until they ended up with my OC. They have no wish to harm anyone, but sometimes things happen.
You never fail to impress me. I love your music so much. And to add in I love when it sounds like something is squirming into your ears or burrowing into your brain it’s so cool and chilling.

This definitely feels like it's about a changeling. It would also explain the rabbits as friends and being in the woods, cause if someone suspected that their baby had been stolen and is actually a changeling, they would leave it in the woods for the faeries to take back. And the "distant lullaby" that it remembers might be the last time the mother sang to it before abandoning it in the woods. And in Celtic times, faeries were thought to be demonic in nature, so that would explain the "thing's" lack of humanity, companionship, and warmth. Along with it's ability to absorb.

I have a theory of whats going on in the song : This "thing" might've been once a unborn child (due to the symbolism of a baby Cribb in the mv). maybe the unborn baby's soul is lost and takes the form of the "thing". It feels lonely in some type of forest and finds rabbits (friends). it wants to be like those rabbits, it wants eyes, hair, and anything to be alive. It doesn't wanna be alone anymore.

No matter what song it is, I still have trouble seeing it at night. I am such a big fan of Steampianist, makes my favourite vocaloid as creepy as he should be. This honestly reminds me of insecurity, and wanting the “perfect” features of another
When I started thinking about the lyrics it actually reminded me of one of my stories. An AI that discovers it’s life is a lie and goes insane. Basically this song would be the AI begging to it’s creator to be a real human.
I also find it pretty appropriate it talks about lullabies, a Geometry Dash level that’s part of this story is called Moonlight Sonata.

I think this is about a child that has always been babies. Hence the “soft lullabies will always follow me” I think that, being babied made them look at the popular kids. They became obsessed with finding the snip it’s of people who were popular. They would than act like them or dress like them. This way, maybe they would become popular
