- Marianne Gee has been asking herself the same question for years: “How to save the honeybees?” The simple answer is: You are insignificant, but your 1/12th of a teaspoon counts!
From federal government employee to beekeeper? Meet the Bee Gal!
Marianne Gee worked as a Ph.D. epidemiologist and science policy advisor for the federal government before finding her true calling as a beekeeper. After discovering a colony of honeybees in the wall of their home, Marianne and her husband Matt cofounded Gees Bees Honey Company, which brings beehives to rooftops and backyards across Ottawa. Today they care for more than 200 beehives around the city and are revitalizing an urban farm for local organic food production. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
I cried watching this talk. Powerful.
God, I cried. The logic is so clear, and her delivery of it couldn't have been more concisely beautiful. I hope we can all take this to heart
I am inspired by your talk on quietly contributing our own 1/12 of a teaspoon… Thank you Marianne for enlightening us on how we can learn from these remarkable creatures to create a better world.
Learn to see Simplicity in Complexity and Complexity in Simplicity.
Brilliance, Marianne Gee.
“I am insignificant but my 1/12 of a teaspoon counts”...what a lesson! Lady, you’re amazing!
Yes, to the world, it is just a bee, but to the hive, the bee is the world. Great presentation.
What a speaker!! Dammmn, she has LOTs of TALENT for communication
The world needs a few more scout bees like you to convince others.

I am from Sri lanka. I have listen to hundreds of ted. This is one of the best. How you work as a family and how you gave the message using your own experience touched our family as we are also trying to do something for the kids using the lives of Bees. All the best
If you enjoyed this, I would recommend the book The Wisdom of Bees: What the Hive Can Teach Business about Leadership, Efficiency, and Growth by Michael O'Malley
Thank you
Thank you for interesting video. Best wishes to the entomologists and beekeepers!
The fact the majority of people generally don't know where their food and other products come from and how they're made is one of the greatest problems in the world today.
Barry Johnson These little gals (the honeybees) are responsible for every third bite of food, EVERYONE takes. Honeybees are the most remarkable creatures. Bee classes are fun and interesting...
Humans harvesting their own meat, their own Vegtables, their own Fruits, their own Grains is the next revolution, and a wonderful side effect of people avoiding the Grocery store as much as possible due to COVID. Hunt. Fish. Garden. Home Stead. Study. Learn. Invest. Humans Being self sufficient will put less of a burden on the corporate farming system. for resources you can't produce yourself, barder. This takes work. As a last resort: At least buy Locally Grown Meat and Produce from small Farm Operations.
Agree 100%
And if we generalise this ignorance across all the other products that we consume, you start to discern the unspeakable damage that we inflict on the environment. The core of this problem, I think, lies in the lack of seriousness when considering the impact of mass scale production of all kinds on the environment; a major Part of this lack of seriousness is political corruption which allows the corporate world to get away with murder.
One of the best TEDx Talk.
Good work, very brave and ambitions, it's like try to save the world, you will need the contribution of everybody
Beautiful talk and so informative. Bees provide us with so many life lessons. My husband and I grow flowers and have a vegetable garden. I hope we can all change the way our food is grown for the benefit of all living beings. Thank you.
How are you
No wonder we are told to learn from bees and ants How they procure all their needs when they are easily available and store them for lean period. In the case of honey bee we steal them frequently and deprive them of their hard earned honey which is money for us . Observing nature teaches us the most simple effective productive ways to be applied in our daily lives . Thank you for this incredible presentation Marianne
Bravo, Marianne! This is not only significant information, but you have offered a way for each and every one of us to help.
Your ability to take us on the journey of the June swarm, so eloquently and I could see that little be waggle.

One of the best TED talks ever. I’m sharing it with my WhatsApp group.
Incredible TED talk; must watch, teaches u about the significance of all life and the influence your thoughts/actions on the world. The honey bee and this woman has transformed how I see the world, the role of everything in it, including myself.
The content was amazing, and the presentation was better than a polished newscaster! Beautiful job! 👏
well done. A little waggle dance may enhance the speech, other than that, very good. I'm already ahead of you on the urban garden. 1/12 of something is still something. Keep up the great work.
Amazing speech . We tend to ignore these facts right in front of us . I haven't seen honey bees in past few year . And it is so very imp to conserve them as they plan such an imp role
Vibha Singh than you need glasses. This whole bee disappearing thing is FAKE NEWS. Do your research....🙄🙄🙄
Hi Thanks for that inspiring talk. I'm waggling, I'm waggling. Getting through my first winter with two hives. Will pay it forward and share your enthusiasm.

WILD bees are what need saving! Honey bees are purely lovely but for the sake of biodiversity, it's the wild ones we should focus on.
wow. perfect
Create a habitat to sustain the bee. Also conduct research on Pesticide or Chemical or Natural causes like bacterial or fungal swabs which could be leading to natural death.
She rings through
Unfortunately our Bees are dying, so we all need to WAGGLE our tails off, and start growing fruits and vegetables.. and if you decide to WAGGLE in the direction of Bee Keeping, GREAT! 🐝zzz

ME: Why am I alive?
OLD WOMAN: Because everything else is.
ME: No. I mean the purpose.
OLD WOMAN: That is the purpose. To learn about your relatives.
ME: My family?
OLD WOMAN: Yes. The moon, stars, rocks, trees, plants, water, insects, birds, mammals. Your whole family. Learn about that relationship. How you’re moving through time and space together. That’s why you’re alive. ~ Richard Wagamese
"I carry meaning. I care for family. I care for society. I care for environment, all life. I care for their future. I cannot just live for I. I came to be, because of what came before. And thus, I am now, for what will be -- meaningfully." ~ Paul Jung
