When you stare into the vod, the vod stares back
little known fact but vod actually stands for Void On Demand 🤓
@@TurbopropPuppy thought it was Void of Darkness
6:23 stream starts
Then again at 15:55 after the break
What up slop heads, it's good to be back!
Feeling so sloppy right now
Absolutely floored by learning that the British Secretary of 🎉LEVELING UP🎉 looks exactly like a doddering old British man in a screwball comedy. Is this real life? Or is it a Monty Python character that I, an ignorant American, am offensively mistaking for a real guy? Is the UK just an invention of Hollywood? What is this????
Here’s a question: is Starmer’s condoning of war crimes most due to his lack of a spine, his dread of being called antisemitic, his loyalty to settler colonial interests, or a general antipathy towards bame people?
Yes.
had to skip the first part cuz im Egyptian and im just saturated with genocidal slop at this point but im glad you're covering it and explaining to your audience that it's really not that complicated how most westerners seem to be acting like it is.
Well, I do actually have some expertise on surveillance. So to expand a bit on it, because Nat mentioned it. Listening into phones, is the kind of thing that is massively disruptive to civilian life, but it's completely useless as far as gathering actual intelligence. You would already need to know who is in Hamas, to have their cell phone number in the first place, so you already need other forms of intelligence. Most people in Palestine are gonna know that the Americans, and Israelis are listening into their phone conversations, or at least they have the ability to right? So nobody is going to say anything illegal over the phone, they're not going to call up the known terrorists in their lives. Cell phones are this huge network, and we think that because it's so big it has meaning, but it's incredibly easy to opt out of using a cell phone actually, and if your intelligence network relies on tapping people's phones now you've created a blind spot for yourself. That was a huge problem with how surveillance was used in Iraq.
Edit: Ever notice how people always use the term 'rational actor' to mean someone entirely focused on short-term gains without regard for long term consequences?
Glad you took the time you needed! Unfortunately, slop waits for no-one. Yummy yummy, dread in my tummy!
In hindsight it's wild how radical DS9 was. Great show
by far my second-favorite Star Trek show (after Lower Decks)
I've missed the slop. I'm glad to see more again!
Wooo gonna listen to this on my way home from class!!
Waiter, my Liberalism isn't sloppy enough.
I missed the stream but I’m always back to for the vod
The thing that just hit me about that brief Jowling section was that it pretty much implies that she pushed the labor party to be more transphobic by potentially withholding any future donations. Good... job, article? 🤔
3:31:46 I think you should read Machiavelli, Sophie. The Prince is closer to “medieval materialist analysis” than you may think, as he clearly state at the beginning that he is just describing how the system works, the “how to instructions” are derived by historical events and the inner working of the feudal system, not moral ideals. When the conclusion is “morality doesn’t count” he is not describing how thing ought to be, his claiming that’s how things are under feudalism.
This framework for the Prince is supported by literary scholars like the late Dario Fo (nobel price in literature) and late Franca Rame (his wife and a feminist activist from the ‘70ies), but also medievalist historian like Alessandro Barbero (former member of the Italian communist party). Of course they’re all on the left and writing in Italian.
So why he wrote the analysis as a “how to guide”? Well he kinda had to, as he was in the administration of Florence during a period of republicanism and when the “democratic experiment” was interrupted, the new ruler was interested in taking him as an advisor and becoming his patron, with some caveats… The book is written for him and for Machiavelli to show his “loyalty”. In the book there are things like “when you take over a republic, you should kill them all, including the children, as they tasted freedom and will always seek freedom”, says the former chancellor in a republic…
Basically people read the Prince and where he points out what works for getting power in a feudal system, they go like “oh, that Machiavelli guy is sooooo baaad, you should definitely not listen to him, really evil guy”
Did a JSO action last year. Plenty of working class people at meetings been to. Sophie needs to not mistake spokespeople for the movement. Spokespeople suffer from serious selection bias. JSO specifically picks people who present a certain way because they're seen as sympathetic. They contribute to the cultural ouroboros which is how to seem as 'reasonable' in public discourse. But JSO as a group... big variety of people. Public meetings. Can get recruited in a bunch of ways.
What's that opening track? It's exceptional!
EDIT: Oh, StarCraft 2
Sophie calls it Star Trek haha
I literally came down here to figure out where the hell I weas remembering this from vifhdsvfs
Ughh, I live in Liverpool, I could have been at all those events, but I was too depreeessseed

3:10 this stuff is literally ripped from the Three Body Problem!!! (Which is itself, though I like a lot of it, pretty marbled through with liberal slop. Prolly worth discussing on this channel actually)

Too British to do a bill and Ted impression, otherwise fantastic analysis
