At 1.20 why can't the heavier attacker just push with his mass at the defender? The stance has to be very good and the defender will eventually have to take a step back (to the side, at another 45* angle, depends on the lineage).
William Cheung is correct about being able to have a great deal of control when on the blind side. The problem I see is, getting to the blind side of a fighter who is very fast, swift footed, and who is constantly moving and pivoting, cutting corners and having loose and ever-moving hands...and reads YOUR movements, like a good boxer. A person such as that won't just stand there like a department store mannequin while you work on him and move anywhere you want around him.
Guys, this is a seminar not an actual wing chun class. He is showing basic theory here, not training fighters. I've seen actual wing chun training in a class, and they hit each hard to get used to the impact of being punched or kicked. They are padded of course, but it stings and hurts if you mess up. I don't know if all wing chun teachers teach that way, this is just what I have witnessed.
It's possible, but you have to do it quickly or risk getting hit in the head. Secondly, the hitter, in this case, Master Cheung, is moving as he throwing punches, so he can continue to move in small steps if he feel that the opponent is moving.
i agree with you that bruce modified a lot of what he learned in MM to his own style of fighting. He had the goal of uniting all MM into one. William did not have this goal. He kept studying under IP man. Before IP man died, he asked william and his pupils to continue teaching his WC to others. William and Bruce were childhood friends and i currently train under William Cheung's traditional school of WC.
Sorry ! The Late Bruce Lee Never Learned the Complete Wing Chun System . Only the first form . Any Student of Bruce Lee will not teach the Second or third form . Because they don't know it or being taught .
nah i actually think its the opposite. this man was trained under IP man therefore a product of his instructor. there are a lot of weighed down wing chun schools that don't teach the important wing chun details as in this one. and for example, bruce lee knew the concepts of many styles and only included importants part in each. and he became an amazing fighter using what he thought was essential in fighting. maybe cheung is doing the same thing for his wing chun. but i truly believe hes for real
i think the problem is on wing chuners movement. There is not(usually)!!!!A boxer works with movement and reflexes.Wing chun has forward movement(something that in90% doesnt exist) and chi sao(something also doesnt exist in real speeds in 90%)....So we become a bag for a boxer!!!!
Your opponent won't give his elbow that where one Watch the Elbow. When you see an opening attack the Elbow or Control it and you will Control your opponent Balance .
Womg Chun as a whole is not going to compete against a decent boxer even here we cam find videos of that, my own personal experience is the style is good against boxing until you start throwing combos against it. Based on sparring against three Wing Chuners two from Hong Kong (actually easy to beat) and one from England and he was a monster to deal with and I would have been destroyed in all honesty if I did not have a size advantage on the guy (I dont claim to be a decent boxer btw)
Not true! Bruce and William made up their own way of fighting. William does not teach Ip Man WC by any means and thats a fact. Ip man had many students and many of them changed it.Wiliam just won`t admit it and he has only as much training as bruce very little.
You don't know what you talking about . Late Yip man taught William Cheung the Modified version then Later on the Real Version and make him Promise not to teach no one . In 1972 December 02 when Yip man passed away William Cheung Inherited the Grandmaster title . Then Decided whether to teach Modified or TWC . That a Fact !
Not correct. He didn't make it up. He was just taught a slightly different version of Wing Chun than that practiced by Yip Man -- but Yip is the famous one, so he said Yip trained him. You can google to find out how Cheung actually learnt Wing Chun -- and yes his Wing Chun is superior to Yip Man's -- mainly in the footwork and fighting in the blind side. The difference between two fighters of equal skill is the footwork. Of course all of this is aside from the fact that William Cheung is perhaps the best proponent of Wing Chun in the world. His technique is basically perfect. If you touch hands with him you will feel straight away even with very little pressure, he will have total control and cause you pain. That's with only mild pressure! And that is as an older man. Imagine him in his early thirties or late 20s when his body was all muscle. there is a reason why Bruce Lee called William Cheung the best street fighter in the world.
Also i hate to say that but training in a wrong way in wing chun is a waste of life.It is not like box that u may not be that fast or movable. If u dont learn follow principles u become a bad boxer..I love wc but it needs years of training and mainly quality training..

Because he is off balance.

Not many ppl understand how to control elbows as detect opponent balance to gain a upper hand in fight!

Wing Chun does not have just only forward movement.
Watch the video carefully.
Do you think that your opponent will give his elbow/arm so easy!!!
Most wc guy know the wooden dummy represent the elbow not the wrist.
Your opponent won't give his elbow that where one Watch the Elbow. When you see an opening attack the Elbow or Control it and you will Control your opponent Balance .
Ren kuang ti tuo Bu Kong ya xu lun yu si xu nian kuang ya Ta Ren Chi man man sui zhung te Goa Ren Kao te cun diao ya Hai xu
