I personally enjoy both versions of this. One this, with her brother, and with Nightwish. They have different sounds, agreed but she is beautiful in both.
You know I love Nightwish and all, but I justl ove this song in general. Ithink Tarja did fine. I wouldn't say she's losing her voice at all, it's a different style MUSIC than we're used to with Nightwish. I love both versions.
I'd love to see her perform this with a male singer who had a bit more power in his voice - this poor guy is all but drowned out by her and the heavy instruments.

well i like A LOT both this and the one with Marco...indeed marco doesn't fit as a phantom on the story but just as a song in my ears i like Marco's version a little more than that...don't forget also that it's a metal cover and metal bands tend to make them more evil and aggressive

Well, I'm a huge supporter of the Original stage prodution (NOT the movie), and I can honestly say that I rather enjoyed this version. It's unique, and is probably the best rock version of the song ever done.
Not so bad but that guy voice don't fit this kind of sing even lil'bit, he sing like a pop star, I prefer Nightwish version, Marco did a great job there. And the keyboard is bad too, Tuomas Rulez!!!!!!!!!!!

A mi me gusta la voz de Tarja, pero al ver el buen royo que tenían todos en el escenario, el otro día en Lorca... La verdad, me alegro de que los componentes de Nightwish estén agusto con Anette ^^

Wg mnie Tony ma za słaby, za delikatny nawet bym powiedziała głos jak na tą piosenkę. Przyzwyczaiłam się już do wyk. Nightwish z Tarją.. Marco.. Ogólnie to nie jest źle ale to piosenka nie dla niego.. aczkolwiek bardzo fajnie jego głos komponuje się z głosem Tarji. Fajnie wyciągnął w 3:19 i 3:50. Tarja jak najbardziej na + ale co do Tony'iego to bym polemizowała. Nie wypada najlepiej w tej piosence. Na miejscu Tarji poprosiłabym kogoś innego o zaśpiewanie tej piosenki..Enkeli jak zawsze amazing!
Are you kidding? Her voice is amazing and barly gets effected by stage fright which proves she is truly experianced. She is very good at staying on pitch even when she sings pedle notes. Her voice is more than technique; im a composer and the notes blend so well with the rhythm; the new stuff she created are true master pieces if you listen closly or actually think about how they go together. Lyrics shouldnt make the song; rhythm and blending should. And how the heck does she not have quality??

I'm no stranger to Opera being a music major myself, dating an opera major, and I have an aunt who sang for the Met who crammed opera down my throat (figuratively speaking of course :) ) and I dare say *most* people who are truly devoted to opera would be rather insulted to have Phantom called opera. It's just not. No disrespect intended of course but just because it's got some idioms and themes from opera in there, doesn't make it opera. The same with the other styles you mentioned.
Just like someone said, this is an interesting change (not good, not bad). Marco's voice is really strong, but Tarja's brother sings higher notes, what makes his singing a really different thing. In this performance, he got shadowed by Tarja, indeed, but I know that he's going to improve his skills. Did anyone notice the mad drummer? He rocked so hard in this music!! I was like "holy s***, who the hell is this guy?! O.O"

One might argue then, Achird, that Nightwish should never have done this song in the first place, out of respect for Andrew Lloyd Webber. Why shouldn't she be able to sing Phantom of the Opera while every high school student stateside gets to? It's still good and they don't own rights to it. I am unsure as to which guy I like better as to the voice in this song. Marcos was awesome, but I feel that his pairs up with Tarja's voice better. This song was the song that turned me on to Night wish in the beginning. Although I still think they are good now =)

I agree, but I think another part of it is she's sadly getting older. I hate the fact that as divas age, they begin to lose their voices. I can also understand why Nightwish fired her, even if it does make me so sad - she was an amazing presence in the band and I miss hearing her voice in the new CD.
Phantom of the Opera is not opera. It's a Musical set in the musical idiom of opera around a story based on opera. Phantom of the Opera is to Opera as Taco Bell is to real mexican food. It's a great story, and a great piece of musical theater, but not opera.

She didn't hit the E6, but thats a pretty fuckin high note to hit anyways, and she does have the vocal power to hit it. I'm glad to see shes still singing after the whole NW thing, She is by far one of the most talented singers out there today, such a powerful and magical voice.

Yes the male singer is Tarja's brother Toni I love his voice. I am still a big fan of NW, but I really like the sound of Toni's voice here. It is more like the original, but still has a rock edge to it.
I think on the odd night she just finds it hard to hit high notes. Still a very good performance. I still think it would have been better if they professionally recorded the London performance - that was the best!

I'm no stranger to Opera being a music major myself, dating an opera major, and I have an aunt who sang for the Met who crammed opera down my throat (figuratively speaking of course :) ) and I dare say *most* people who are truly devoted to opera would be rather insulted to have Phantom called opera. It's just not. No disrespect intended of course but just because it's got some idioms and themes from opera in there, doesn't make it opera. The same with the other styles you mentioned.
Just like someone said, this is an interesting change (not good, not bad). Marco's voice is really strong, but Tarja's brother sings higher notes, what makes his singing a really different thing.
In this performance, he got shadowed by Tarja, indeed, but I know that he's going to improve his skills.
Did anyone notice the mad drummer? He rocked so hard in this music!! I was like "holy s***, who the hell is this guy?! O.O"
can you people have a little respect, this is her brother singing with her live and honestly i would say he did an amazing job, yeah he's no marco but give him credit where credit is due, he was good and tarja did amazing, except for the last not, it was flat :/ but no one's perfect cut him some slack, its not like they can just bring marco along for one song, he's with nightwish with annette >.> and Tarja is alone on her own and doing an amazing job if i do say so myself :) i love you tarja!
Understand that Tarja can't sing this song with Marco anymore. Every time she sang it, there will be another guy with her. So it's not fair to compare Toni and Marco, because they sing in different ways. I liked Toni and it's nice to see brother and sister singing together. So please stop the discussion of who is better!
@mim1800 come on...i dont like new nw too but dont say that he hasnt tallent...his voice is awsome,he also plays very good bass..lets face it,phantom of the opera with marco was just perfect..the fact that tarja left(or kicked) from nw and replace her that pop singer,doesnt make marco less tallent..sr for my english..

One might argue then, Achird, that Nightwish should never have done this song in the first place, out of respect for Andrew Lloyd Webber. Why shouldn't she be able to sing Phantom of the Opera while every high school student stateside gets to? It's still good and they don't own rights to it. Breakups happen and life goes on, no sense in being bitter about it.
I think that her brother chose to sing it more similar to the original (have you ever heard it?i always found that man absolutely unfitting for such a character).About Terrana, maybe ZarekFinland meant to say that he's a great drummer anyway, having played a lot and in many bands.Actually, he's considered a very good player, as far as metal drummers are concerned.

I am unsure as to which guy I like better as to the voice in this song. Marcos was awesome, but I feel that his pairs up with Tarja's voice better.
This song was the song that turned me on to Night wish in the beginning. Although I still think they are good now =)

I agree, but I think another part of it is she's sadly getting older. I hate the fact that as divas age, they begin to lose their voices.
I can also understand why Nightwish fired her, even if it does make me so sad - she was an amazing presence in the band and I miss hearing her voice in the new CD.
Phantom of the Opera is not opera. It's a Musical set in the musical idiom of opera around a story based on opera. Phantom of the Opera is to Opera as Taco Bell is to real mexican food. It's a great story, and a great piece of musical theater, but not opera.

Ok, Nightwish isn't the same anymore without Tarja but I still like them most of the most! And I personally think, she probably was down for it long time that she was "fired" but, she looks happy with her solo career. I mean a solo career was kind of what she wanted so...

She didn't hit the E6, but thats a pretty fuckin high note to hit anyways, and she does have the vocal power to hit it. I'm glad to see shes still singing after the whole NW thing, She is by far one of the most talented singers out there today, such a powerful and magical voice.
Well I like this guy more than Marco, just because Marco's screaming is annoying. He's a good singer, but he should just keep his mouth shut when I'm listening.

@missdepp97 brucoshijada is correct. He's her brother. It's nice to have a family help out like that. Hes' helping his sister out, as he should. And he does not have a bad voice. Also concider he backs up guitar, keyboards and drums.
In the world today, how many brothers / sisters don't talk to each other or are estranged? How many people would like to have a brother or sister, but they are alone? It's beautiful and admirable when brothers do something together as Tarja and Toni.

I enjoy both nightwish and tarja. the upside is now having to really good band/musicians to listen to. She is an amazing vocalist. and I wish her and nightwish the best, and hope for many albums from both of them to come.
It's not that he can't sing, because he can, he's not a metal-voiced man for this song he's more "classical" sounding compared to Marco. That's your mistake you're comparing them. It's the new interpretation.

It is more like the original, but still has a rock edge to it.
I think on the odd night she just finds it hard to hit high notes. Still a very good performance.

well it's a matter of tastes, i personally don't like Marco Hietala, his voice is strong but not good for this song. Toni Turunen sounds a lot more like steve harley in the original version.

This guy might have more technique, but Marco has such an intense power within his voice that fit perfectly the Phantom's personality.
Too bad Tarja left Nightwish...
Her not hitting the high note like usual here, has nothing to do with leaving Nightwish because in many new concerts she does. Or sometimes she hits it even better!
