I thought that the timing was unfortunate because now they're down to eight members :( Reading the lyrics of the song, it's really about indestructible bonds between TWO people, so the timing doesn't matter. Wow. It's already been 2 years since...all of this...happened and it honestly feels like I just cried yesterday night. What I'm about to say is something that's been in my mind for the past 2 years as I've mentioned before. So here goes (warning, might be long though): I've read comments about what happened back there, with Jessica leaving the group and all, on this song and on the other one which is Divine. Those that I've seen said that 'even though this song mentions them having an unbreakable bond and being indestructible, Jessica left the group. How indestructible indeed.' or something along those lines. To summarize it, they're being sarcastic. But then a thought came to me. What if it was the other way around? Like you know, instead of treating the song as some kind of a farewell or a sarcastic reminder that the girls have lied to us why not treat it as some kind of reminder? Maybe it is a kind of farewell where the girls remind us just who really is Girls' Generation and that no matter what happens they have this unbreakable bond. They have been together for a long time after all, adding the years they were only trainees. The way they met each other is like a fairy tale, friends for years and then suddenly they're spending their lives with each other. Well that's that. I don't really know why I've decided to post this when everything's over but I guess it's just to take off some things in my chest.
I like your thoughts on this song. I think the girls truly believed in their unbreakable bond. They say that you should never mix business and friendship and that is the cruel situation that inevitably lead to the split. If the girls were just like friends in an ordinary friends situation without competing business interests getting in the way I am sure that they all would still be together as friends. It must have been very difficult for the group staying together with all the immense pressure they have been under all these years with schedules, rehearsals, performances etc and I really do salute them for staying on board for us fans. ChrisBrengel I think their are numerous reasons why the English version of The Boys failed to be successful and why they should have had a second go at English market. The Boys to be brutally honest was crap choice of song. Rather than choose a catch melodic pop song (like the many songs that made them successful in Asia) they chose a song that didn't really suit them and lacked many of the key elements that made them successful. It was a kind of song that someone else thought they had to do to be successful in America. Also the fact that it was released not long after the Korean version and the music video was virtually identical and was released on the Girls' Generation VEVO channel instead of SM Entertainment's RUclips channel pretty much doomed it on RUclips. Since Girls' Generation released "The Boys", "Gangnam Style" came out, K-pop (and Girls' Generation) got global recognision and "I Got A Boy" won RUclips Video of the Year, yet SM Entertainment decided to not have a second go despite a much more conducive environment and despite a record deal with Interscope and persistent rumors of English songs/versions songs/albums. Perhaps they just waited to long and then Jessica left which pretty doming any future prospects/plans of and English album and World Tour. They had the opportunity to go global but have now seemingly settled for the Asian market alone, for however long the remaining members stay together. It's not all doom and gloom I think SM has inadvertently set Jessica up as solo artist that is capable of take on the English market (with ready made fan base). The fans that have long been waiting for an English Album from GG will now be ready and willing to snap up a copy of Jessica's Album. I think for SM it makes perfect sense hor them to tackle the English market with a solo artist that has a good voice and is fluent in English and I think Jessica is probably the best choice out of all of GG to take on English market.
I'm with you that "The Boys" was not their finest song. I also thought that was incredibly STUPID of SM to fly them 23 (or whatever) hours from Korea to NYC and then throw them on big U.S. TV programs. Big surprise (not) that they didn't give their best performance on Letterman (who was a jerk, btw. Someone should have talked to him for a couple of minutes to explain who GG is. Mentioning the sold-out Madison Square Garden performance would have helped too). Why do you say that Jessica's leaving dooms them from breaking out of the Asian market? Tiffany's got the best English in GG, right? Intriguing idea of Jessica breaking into the English market. They should definitely release at least a single and a video (with characteristic K-pop formation dancing) in English.

Soshi MECH SNSD released "The Boys" in English and unfortunately didn't go anywhere, so I doubt they're going to come out with an album in English. :(
ChrisBrengel I think their are numerous reasons why the English version of The Boys failed to be successful and why they should have had a second go at English market.
The Boys to be brutally honest was crap choice of song. Rather than choose a catch melodic pop song (like the many songs that made them successful in Asia) they chose a song that didn't really suit them and lacked many of the key elements that made them successful. It was a kind of song that someone else thought they had to do to be successful in America. Also the fact that it was released not long after the Korean version and the music video was virtually identical and was released on the Girls' Generation VEVO channel instead of SM Entertainment's RUclips channel pretty much doomed it on RUclips.
Since Girls' Generation released "The Boys", "Gangnam Style" came out, K-pop (and Girls' Generation) got global recognision and "I Got A Boy" won RUclips Video of the Year, yet SM Entertainment decided to not have a second go despite a much more conducive environment and despite a record deal with Interscope and persistent rumors of English songs/versions songs/albums. Perhaps they just waited to long and then Jessica left which pretty doming any future prospects/plans of and English album and World Tour. They had the opportunity to go global but have now seemingly settled for the Asian market alone, for however long the remaining members stay together.
It's not all doom and gloom I think SM has inadvertently set Jessica up as solo artist that is capable of take on the English market (with ready made fan base). The fans that have long been waiting for an English Album from GG will now be ready and willing to snap up a copy of Jessica's Album. I think for SM it makes perfect sense hor them to tackle the English market with a solo artist that has a good voice and is fluent in English and I think Jessica is probably the best choice out of all of GG to take on English market.
I'm with you that "The Boys" was not their finest song. I also thought that was incredibly STUPID of SM to fly them 23 (or whatever) hours from Korea to NYC and then throw them on big U.S. TV programs. Big surprise (not) that they didn't give their best performance on Letterman (who was a jerk, btw. Someone should have talked to him for a couple of minutes to explain who GG is. Mentioning the sold-out Madison Square Garden performance would have helped too).
Why do you say that Jessica's leaving dooms them from breaking out of the Asian market? Tiffany's got the best English in GG, right?
Intriguing idea of Jessica breaking into the English market. They should definitely release at least a single and a video (with characteristic K-pop formation dancing) in English.
