    Thank you!

    I studied acting at university years ago and although I didn’t become a professional actor there were a few key principles we were taught to learn text, that I apply to learn a piece of music. I’ve found practicing at a ‘thinking’ tempo helpful, and working towards a ‘feeling of satisfaction’. This means giving myself permission to repeat and not move forward in the music until a note, measure or phrase…basically whatever I’m focused on practicing ‘feels’ satisfied. ‘Go for that again’ I coach myself when I don’t feel satisfied. This is perhaps the most important part. When I do, I move on. I hope others find this helpful in their practicing journey.

      Thanks Daniel, yes I do this too - if you can’t think your way through while you’re practicing, you’re playing too fast! 😊

    I agree with that. I am very shy about playing in public indeed and it was no different with my singing at first. One way round it I found is to enjoy playing and recording with a home studio. I'm learning to produce my own music with a BSc degree in Audio Engineering and Music Production but I do want to play better in public I got nervous as a singer at first and I need to go through the whole process again as a pianist. If I really work on a piece I can get a good professional quality recording of it in a live recording context even if I have to play the piece several times which you can't do in a concert setting. I would love to learn how to play live in a hall better, but I'm quite a good player I just get very scared playing live and don't have a lot of experience outside playing in my own front room where I feel secure. I get prizes in online competitions learning things myself but I still find it hard to play live and I even have a conservatoire second study exam from Germany. The nerves still come. I don't know if I would benefit from this group or not, because I don't need note bashing but group work would be nice to build confidence with some more constructive feedback from peers. I just need really advanced lessons on the technical side I feel that would help with confidence to to focus more on the touch I'm making and not just holding it together. I feel something is wrong with my playing psychology having been self taught since 2005 and only having had 3.5 years lessons. I am not as secure playing in a live venue as I would have been but for that teaching myself largely has enormous benefits in that the interpretations of the music are entirely my own. I read each score form scratch rather than learning it by ear at all form others. the way I read that score is my own and if a teacher has a prejudice or feels you are slow or better than they'd like you to be that can also affect you so playing alone when you can does help I just need to collaborate more now. Is this what I need most? I'd like to join but I don't have a lot of money. ruclips.net/video/nvsoTSWWgEc/видео.htmlsi=aXGVo2C-62nIf7fE that's example one of my work and this is example 2. ruclips.net/video/zGNTn2WfzDg/видео.htmlsi=5d1D-WwhcaIFIH_B It's just that your group was for intermediate players. I'm quite good technically. I can win minor prizes in online competitions at conservatoire level (Honour Prizes and mentions).

      Hi Hugh, the 100x Challenge group is free to join, and welcomes players at all levels from beginner to advanced level players. It's very friendly and supportive so if you feel like giving it a go, you could join up and just observe until you feel ready to post your own videos. Your competition videos are great, by the way - congrats on your success!

    True that. The pieces that I learnt as a child were done endlessly for the TCML. I recollect them after just a few times. It is called overlearning.

    I’m feeling tearfully relieved at your message here. I’ve been working on “Dust In The Wind” by Kansas for 3 years (guitar). & I still don’t feel confident about it. I still make mistakes. I was starting to think something’s wrong with me ~ For still not being able to play it, or for being too stubborn to just give up.🤣 Thank you so much for letting me know it will eventually work out. I really needed to hear this. ❤️❤️❤️😊

    I don't use Facebook, but I'm going to challenge myself in May with Brahms 118 no 2. I've memorized it, but it's not totally solid and I've not settled on tempos and dynamics. I have a few more pieces in the same state, so if it works, I'll be challenged through the summer.

      Just wanted to report how satisfying this exercise was. The more the notes got out of the way, the more the music came through. New insights in almost every bar. The only problem is the month ended. I'm still playing it frequently, and benefiting from it, but I'm now challenging 100x with Chopin op 48 no 2 and experiencing the same improvements.

    The ABRSM syllabus means you have to learn three pieces to performance standard within two to three years at most. That means that once you've learned them you need to perform them privately one thousand times each before you sit your exam. There isn't enough time for an amateur to do this!

    • @LeCheileMusic
      @LeCheileMusic  Год назад +5

      This was the process for a full time working concert pianist. You don’t need to aim for a thousand plays as an amateur but you could certainly aim for a few hundred without too much trouble. My challenge is to play a piece 100 times within a month, which is little more than 3 times a day, and that in itself can make a huge difference to your confidence in a piece. Good luck with your exams 🥰

  • @timjoseph887
    @timjoseph887 Год назад +1

    When you are 16, you absolutely do not need to play a piece 1000x . When you’re 50, definitely.
