    I’m a flight attendant. I strongly recommend as many snacks as you can squeeze in and roll up fleece blankets as it can get really chilly sometimes on long flights

      Pinky Doodle3 thank you. Must remember to take some blankets! Everyones said that xx

      Also if you wanted to you can take a car seat onboard if children have their own seat booked. It has to have a 5 point harness and be forward facing and be able to be secured with the planes lap belt from behind. My son always travels in his car seat. He is 3 now I find it helps him sleep on long flights. But it can be difficult carrying it through the airport so I have a folding trolley I bring it through on.

      I didn't realise you were laoud to take snacks..I thought everything had to be bought from the airport. I'm so glad I watched this..save me a fortune at the airport! Hope you have a great holiday x

    Pipe cleaners are a godsend on flights. You can make all sorts of things with them. My daughter would make bracelets and distribute them amongst the passengers 🤣 kept her entertained for hours!
    You could also glue a Lego board to a Tupperware lid and put a selection of Lego’s in the box to build onto the lid (does that make sense?)
    Good luck, it’s easier than you think it’ll be. The experience of flying is often entertaining enough.

    Just a warning about the headphones, double check how loud they are as he may not be able to hear anything over the plane engines if they are very quiet!

    Kate the aeroplane tables are quite small, I think the dominos are going to be constantly falling on the floor, which are then difficult to keep picking up. How about a mini etch a sketch or a small travel snakes and ladders that is self contained. I remember my 2 boys were the same age when we had our first holiday abroad. Try and give Archie the window seat I remember my son James spent ages looking out of the window at all the clouds in awe and looked out for other aircraft flying by. XX

    • @KateMurnane
      @KateMurnane  6 лет назад +3

      chillijules thanks for the tips. Yes maybe that won’t work too well! It might have to be something to keep him entertained whilst we’re in our room! Xx

    • @SimpLeeBeth
      @SimpLeeBeth 6 лет назад

      Yes, either save it to give him as the last gift before you get off the plane (with a promise to play it once checked into your room) or as the last gift before arriving home (with a promise to play it once there.) That said, you may be able to use a few of the pieces for some type of memory game or sorting game that wouldn't need as much room/stability.

  • @SimpLeeBeth
    @SimpLeeBeth 6 лет назад +14

    If you give him the wrapped gifts on the plane ride there, he will be super invested in the idea of more gifts on the plane ride home. Maybe you could tell him that each day or stop (or whatever you decide/makes sense) for which he is on good behavior, he will earn another gift for the plane ride home. That way, he will be good and excited by the gifts on the way there; he will be on his best behavior during the trip; and, he will have extra excitement for the trip home bc he will have earned even more gifts for the ride home, on top of all of the lovely gifts he got on the way there :)
    Good luck! Safe travels! Xo

    My toddlers loved playing with those gel window clings on the tray table, they also had fun with some crayola model magic and some small cookie cutters ( the clay isn’t sticky or messy at all). Finger puppets, post it notes, books with flaps.

    Take a comfort item from home. Planes are big noisy tin cans that hurtle trough the sky at speed and some kids are not particularly comfortable on their first flights. A teddy or blanket from home can help ease that anxiety.

    Play dough is great to keep them entertained along with a cheap tea set from pound shop. I then kept plastic cutlery for her to chop the things up. She wasn’t allowed to see any of the bits in her bag until we got to the airport so they would be new to her. Also Tiger has lots of cute small bits that you could add in if your looking. Also bubbles on holiday are great distraction (not on plane of course!) I found this worked a charm when my daughter was little and we had to wait for our food or in line.

  • @chocolatemeltingpot1
    @chocolatemeltingpot1 6 лет назад

    Love this! Have a fab time! Some tips I’ve used is to pack things in plastic bags (like food bags things) so have a change of clothes and everything you’d need for that in one bag, snacks in another bag, toys in another, any drinks plasters tissues etc in another so if you need to grab something your not rooting around in the bag.
    Another one is lolly pop for the take off and landing.
    They’ll be fine, I was so nervous with our daughter on her first flight and she was great! Xx

    When we took our four year old he had a pull along rucksack, he pulled it with pride for most of the time. Save some of the contents of the bag for the return journey. And be careful wrapping gifts , customs might ask you to open them, check with airport x

  • @stephaniedickson4947

    When we flew with my little one for the first time he was 2. We took a cheaper version of a trunki and packed some spare clothes for all of us and some toys for once we were there. It was also good for going threw the airports to keep him amused and close and if we were stuck in the hotel he could play with it in the room. It meant if luggage got lost or if any one was sick then we knew we had a change of clothes. In one of our rucksacks/travel bags we had a small gym bag full of snacks and toys/surprises which was easy to pull out from underseats or hang on seats when on the plane. Hope yous have a good holiday x

    Just been to Poundland and brought the animal version of the dominoes as have a 6 year old and 2 year old and thought they were brilliant to use after our evening meal to keep them entertained so thank you 😀 I went in the card factory too and they had loads of sets for a £1 with wax crayons, colouring books and stickers so picked some of those up for on the plane too.

    Great video, lots to keep him entertained! I just done a 18 hour flight with three kids! One being 18 months! I also done a vlog showing what I put in the carry on! Maybe take a blanket as it gets chilly on the plane. Take as many snacks as you can fit in, kids don't like being strapped in- our flight had a lot of turbulence so was strapped in a lot! We had no problems taking on liquids, they saw we had a baby and it was in baby bottles. We took two beakers of water and a bottle of milk with no problems. Hope the flight goes well! X

    Good advice from you to take crayons or pencils instead of felt tip pens, no lids to fall off, I’d just limit the number to ten as you don’t want 48 pencils being knocked to the ground, elastic band will hold them together less bulky than the box. Take a special teddy/blankie/comforter if he has one. Sit him at the window as very entertaining to look out. Clothing wise, a jumper/cosy cardigan and socks as planes are cold. Also it probably won’t be as bad as you think as there’s lots of new things to keep him occupied. Exciting times. Enjoy it x

    Cheerios! Great to play with and eat, Archie could play with them and his cars. My son was obsessed with putting them in his mini dumper truck and eating them. Just put down something on the fold away table as it’s more hygienic and saves them rolling off!

    My daughter loves her pull/roll along backpack. The novelty of it means she lasts much longer rolling it along herself, she's had hers for 4 trips since being 3 (she's currently 4) and still happily rolls it behind her.

    Good travel activity stuff- wikkistix, some Lego (the Lego mixers come in a small bag or you can put some Lego in a resealable food bag) a small toy car(e.g. matchbox/hotwheels car)- can draw roads in the notepad and then drive the car on the roads.

    I flew to Australia when our boys were similar ages to yours. People said we were crazy, but it was fine. Biggest piece of advice I would give you is to relax. If one of the kids kick off, then they do - there’s not much you can do about it when you’re basically in a confined area. Don’t stress about what the other passengers think - the majority of them have been in your position. And if you’re chilled out, the boys are more likely to be too. Distract them during take off (with iPad, milk, whatever) and they’re likely to be fine during the rest of the flight. It’ll be great! X

    I would highly recommend fruit smoothie pouches. If you’re packing them for Elliot, I would pack for Archie too. Just been on holiday with my 2 year old and 7 month old, took the fruit pouches for 7 month old but 2 year old had just as many! It was hot, he was off food and the pouches were a life saver. Also great on the plane as mess free

    Don’t worry, honestly you’ll be fine...I’m currently in Florida with my 2 year old son. On the 9 hour flight here he slept for 1 hour...I then pulled out some of his toy cars etc and after a while I pulled out the tablet to watch his shows and EVERYTHING id downloaded him had gone 😩 so I spent the next 8 hours entertaining him with the bits I’d brought with me. I really recommend the Galt water magic that kept him entertained the longest xx

    I'd pack half of that away in your main suitcase, so you have some treats during the holiday to reward good behaviour and then also new surprises for the journey home. I know a lot of parents also suggest taking a familiar toy/ stuffed animal etc, as sometimes children can be scared etc in a new environment, so always good to have them entertained with a toy you know they love.

    Kate you probably know this but my little boy used to struggle with peeling stickers until an amazing mum told me to pull the sticky background off so it just leaves the stickers. Then they can peel them off easily. I would suggest maybe some stickle bricks or something similar, big and chunky building fun without losing small parts like lego and always spare shorts and pants.xx

      Hi hon.. have you heard of Ashtons & Parsons sachets? We took these to chill our little boy out...because he was teething.. and it worked.. Oh and we took a little roll of sellotape .. sounds crazy but he was obsessed with sticking it on the arms of seats and pulling it off.. lots of nibbles.. and a tablet full of his fave cbeebies programmes. 😚😚 oh and we made little sweetie bags to give to the ppl sitting around us incase he kicked off... but he was fine 😊😊😊😊 xx

      Pippa Davo thank you so much! The sticky tape is genius! Will definitely be taking Ashton and Parsons. He’s cutting his 4th tooth as we speak and the stuff is like catnip! 🤣 we’ve also got a bit of a bubble wrap obsession. Maybe I’ll bring a roll and offer it out to people to wrap round their heads to muffle the sound 🙈

    Kate I saw you reply to someone about wanting to take pouches for Elliot - make an order from Boots to be delivered to your airport! Then you can just collect it in the duty free and you’ll have already gone through security. Just make sure you know which terminal to deliver your order to - the website for your airport will point you in the right direction if you’re not sure xx

    We're flying with a 2 year old soon, so thinking about this too! On car trips I've filled a 7 day pill box with fun snacks. That was a hit.
    I'm also thinking of taking a few squeeze pouches so she will be swallowing often during take off and landing. Have a great vacation!

    I work in the duty free Cath Kidston in an airport and we get so many parents coming in asking to buy spare clothes/underwear because surprisingly there aren’t many options for children’s clothes in the airport. So I’d say it’s worth bringing spare clothes just in case, you never know! I’ve seen parents very stressed looking to buy extra clothes whilst trying to make it on time for their gate! Xxxx

    You can take baby food pouches on the plane. Just have them sealed and put them in the tray and they scan them and sometimes you have to taste them but we never did. Same goes for the little pre made bottles of formula. We found out the hard way that Netflix and Disney life don’t work abroad with your uk subscription so make sure you download enough to keep them entertained xxx

    Been on 6, long haul seven hour flights with my 10 month old and two and a half year old - snacks are the best distraction.
    Only bring 3-4 colored pencils and use that container for snack he can grab and eat when he want (because they will drop and you will loose them). Same with the dominos bring maybe 6 matching ones to play with. Three hours will fly by.
    Also don’t buy movies from iTunes. For the same price by the actual dvd and get the free digital copy for your iPad

    Hi kate. i would recommend not putting everything in his bag but only one or two presents as then he will want to open everything at once and would spend a lot less time playing with the actual one present. also remember that the first time travelling is a novelty and he might be just excited with the plane and looking out the window for a while. i think also you could maybe skip the kids bag altogether as he might want to just open everything before u even get on the plane! we traveled last October with a 2 year old and a 5 month old. Definitely keep some things for the journey back. good luck and really hope you have a lovely time x love from Malta x

I'd say probably don't use the rolling backpack because I have 2 brothers and if my parents gave the youngest one (a 5-year old) a rolling backpack he would probably get overexcited and run around blocking people and like tripping people. That is just my opinion though. Just thought I would put that out there.

    You can buy triangle pencils and crayons so they don’t roll off and you’re not constantly bending under seats 😂

    Apples take toddlers ages to eat! Two sets of stickers to play matching games. Card game- we take snap- can get a bit noisy but better than a whinging child!!
