He's trying to be for Toronto what Prince was for Minneapolis. Thing is, with Prince he didn't have to try so hard and I don't think he really cared that he was 'Prince from Minneapolis' whereas Drake shows up at any big entertainment or sporting event in Toronto to promote himself. He's artificial and he's all about selling his brand.

Dear Canadian news reporters,
Please stop trying to sound hip and cool by referring to the greater Toronto area as "THE SIX". You are not MTV news. You are supposed to be a professional Canadian news organization, this kind of vernacular is beneath you.
I say this as a black Torontonian who is a fan of Drake, a fan of rap music and someone who talks in slang and profanities 7 days a week. I am not someone who fits comfortably in a corporate environment but yet i try my best to speak and behave in a professional manner during my work hours.
At the risk of sounding a bit pretentious, you might think you are endearing yourself to "us" but you just come across as incredibly cringe worthy.
