these cats were doing praise music as an album way before most rockers even tht of it. "take me in" is 1 of my all time favs. God is good everday all day

i use to say that the best Petra was whit VOLZ, i know that PERTA is the best band whith Volz and Schilt together. Thanks Petra for all the music and the example of ministry. God bless u
i got saved @ a petra concert in 1976. 34 years ago. because of them ,i got me ged& went to bible college.

Greatest Christian rock band in history (with Greg singing)...I was just listening to their CD's just yesterday. Other great mentions...Keith Green, Amy Grant, Stryper...all from the same era....I miss those days ;)
Thanks Lord! I had the priviledge to see Petra again the las 1st December Saturday in the 'Rock&Vida' festival in Buenos Aires, as a conmemoration of the Day of fight against the AIDS. They played about two hours of all their classics as Amazing Grace, Beyond Belief, Lord I Lift Your Name on High. Probably they will return the next year for the same event, so I invite all of you to come to Argentina for praising the Lord with Petra one more time!

Back in 86/87, I became a Petra fan. My best friend took me to thier "Back to the Street's" concert. She is a huge Volz fan - I'm a huge Schlitt fan. Gonna share this with her! RIP Petra, thanks for the great music!

Awsome! I was at Ichthus in the early 90's, and saw Petra. That was the days of DC Talk, Rich Mullins, Stephen C. Chapman, etc,. Petra was the first Contemporary Christian Concert I ever saw in Corbin, Kentucky, and the first album I knew about not being Southern Gospel or Hymns. That was in the late 80's Wow! I feel old.
Petra ROCKED !!! I grew up listening to them, singin their songs on mission trips....God bless u guys. Greg X Volz...wat a voice!

Petra is definately mixed with our own stories...stories of salvation,stories of driving w/ your buddies, stories of coming back from a great message in church...I wish them all the blessings in whatever they are gonna do!
i heard them in Athens Greece and the band is as old as i am and my favorite of all bands. i think i know more of petra's songs than all the other songs i know in general!!!God bless you Petra , cu in heaven

Oh I have it! I should get up and go search the vinyl collection for it. I still don't really get why Greg left, but IMHO, it wasn't a great move for him. I took a while to "adjust", but now love both guys equally. Very different, but both really always seem very much to believe what they were/are singing. I too learned tons of Scripture from Petra!! Really cool - love these guys!
Had the chance to see them at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC; Back in 1986. They rocked the house for the Lord!!!!!

Still I'm so sad for say goodbye Petra. But, this is my favorite christian rock band forever, the best and greatest example for all generations. The pioneers! God Bless you Petra! You are in my heart because you touch my soul to persevere in God.
The talent of Bob Hartman, the brain of PETRA, is impressive. I love how he had the vision to find the 2 best voices for each stage of the band and how he knew how to write the most appropriate songs for each one.
But the best of all and I never thought it would happen is that he was able to reunite them both. It is a dream that I can at least see on video because I do not think I can see it live at any time.
PETRA is Legend.
He is respected in both the Christian and secular streams of music. So is John Schlitt and Greg Volz. You just don’t hear about it. Have to remember these men changed Christian genre of music into rock. It didn’t go unnoticed
That is something I never thought I'd see, Greg and John singing together on the same stage... 2 great vocalists singing their hearts to God. I saw Petra in October 2005 (Springfield, MO... that was the closest to St. Louis they at for this tour), but I wish I could have been to this one so that I could have seen this, as well as the other songs that included Greg and John Lawry.
I'll never forget when a couple of friends of mine told me about Petra 27 years ago. I said "who?". If I were to tell someone now about Petra, they would say, "who?" But what a part they played in my adolecent and early adult life. These songs bring so many memories to mind of what God was doing in our lives and what He was going to do.
Thanks for the memories, and for the lives that you touched. Rock on Petra!
I think they sound great. I last saw Petra in 1987...Wish I could have been there for this.
For Annie and The Coloring Song are two of my all time Favs !
I recently listened to my library of Petra (140+ songs) while on a road trip. It had been awhile since I had listened to one of their songs. Like many are saying here their songs bring back lots of good memories. Though No Doubt and God Fixation were disappointing they went out on a really good album: Jekyll and Hyde is a solid rock album. Good stuff. Interestingly Peter Furler produced that album. I guess he figured the Newsboys owed Petra for getting them popular.
Petra is the reason that I started listening to christian rock back in the late '70s. I have all of their music, but if anyone out there has any videos of Petra w/ Gregg X. Volz, please post it. Jesus Christ rules
Volz is one of the best singers of all time. It's a shame that he left Petra.

Thanks for this as it is the first time for me to actually see them perform; I grew up spiritually on bands like Petra and have listened to many of the albums back in the seventies. Petra, the Rock, Rocks! Timeless memories!
Nobody sings those original hits like Greg. John is a great singer. But once Greg sang it, it had his signature on it. They're both awesome!!!

Great Band!! I've been a John Schlitt fan since his early days with Head East, and Greg X. Volz still has a great voice. First time I've ever seen him clean shaven or with hair!!

Don't know why- I never was a huge Petra fan, but probably saw them three or four times in Phoenix during the '80s, and after every one I thought it was the greatest concert I had attended. Petra rocks...

i got to see them..during their farewell tour i guess it was.....they were my first concert:] actually so far, my only concert. but they were totally awesome.
Petra is my ferst rock christian group I know. John Schlitt is very good singer... I wish I would buy some mor their CD's... I'm sad, becouse of the fact, they don't record some new material...
it was actually "Back to the Street" to first feature Schlitt. After that, "This means War!", "On Fire", "Petra Praise"; "The Rock Cries Out", then,,, "Beyond Belief". (plus a quite a few after that).

Es impresionante el talento de Bob Hartman, el cerebro de PETRA. Me encanta como tuvo la vision para encontrar a las 2 mejores voces para cada etapa de la banda y como supo escribir las canciones mas adecuadas para cada uno.
Pero lo mejor de todo y que nunca crei que sucederia es que pudo reunir a ambos. Es es un sueño que al menos puedo ver en video porque no creo poderlo ver en vivo alguna vez.
