Ariana actually wrote this and gave it to Demi, but Demi asked her to sing it with her. Ariana only wanted to be the "mystery harmony woman" but Demi convinced her to sing on it.
That explains why she stayed softer. I actually like that 😊

Ariana hasn't been doing crazy big belts in the studio for a few albums now. I would say she prefers to improvise in live performances than doing it in the studio, as opposite to Demi who enjoys doing both (which is a very Mariah thing lol).
I don't know if you mentioned it, but I thought it was cool that Demi and Ariana sung the first pre-chorus together and I didn't catch that on my first listen... I knew there was variation in the 3 times the pre-chorus played but it was amazing to see how close Demi's head voice can be to Ariana's because I could barely tell Demi sung in the first pre-chorus! I had to verify this on a few different sources because I was very surprised haha
Yes Demi’s voice has never been so breathy like in that first pre-chorus and definitely similar to Ariana’s
I really love this song for the emotions it evokes in me. It's like ethereal, haunting, almost seductive or inticing... It's so well done lyrically and production wise.

@@Justarttingz nowadays Ariana hides her whistle notes in the background of harmonies, as heard in pov, and positions, so more likely those are whistle notes, but they’re hidden well, so they sound like overtones but they’re not really overtones

Hi Marco. Greetings from the Netherlands. Have you ever listened to Floor Jansen, the Dutch singer of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish? She has one of the best, if not THE BEST, female voices in metal today. She is a vocal coach herself and can sing with an operatic approach, pop, rock and even grunting. Nightwish songs range from really heavy, to melodic, to folky, to jazzy to...you name it. Their live performances are epic. A good introduction to Nightwish and Floor's voice is the song Ghost Love Score, recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 80 000+ people.
