- This is a first amendment audit of the the Village of Brockport, NY on April 8th 2022 of the police department and Village Hall. The police department had Officer complaint forms available but the public records must be done Online... We did do some FOIL to find out how many tickets were given out by the Brockport police for expired New York State Inspection because they had 4 Patrol vehicles with Expired Inspection... The Detectives car was a complete year and a month over due. This means this car hasn't been to the shop for a Safety check in 2 whole years! The Detective says " it is what it is ". After the FOIL comes back 135 Tickets the people to go to court and pay a Fine for not have a Safety check. And After All isn't it ALL about Officer Safety????
After the police department AEC headed over to the Village Hall. The Mayor Asked AEC to leave for taking photos in the public space. They HIT THE PANIC Button! Call the Cops it's a CAMERA! The police showed up educated the Mayor of the Erie County Fam's rights to video record in public! The one thing that bothers me is the police told the Mayor " It was Unfortunate they Could NOT remove a person for filming " How is FREEDOM Unfortunate Erie County Fam? Please tell me in the comment section!

This was filmed on the 8th of April, the black cop car was inspected on April 14th.
And the black cop car was Re-Register on May 11th!
They finally got on that....

It's the servants and officers that agitate every situation and escalate everything. They create a narrative to fit their desires and definitely do not know the law. They are just observing YOUR behavior and response and relaying that response to the public that you serve.

The legal standard of performance by these city officials for "protecting sensitive information" is that THE CITY OFFICIALS themselves are entirely responsible for that protection and doing so WITHOUT violating the rights of citizens! Read any privacy law. Thus, if a citizen doesn't have a camera and is allowed to go into that office that has sensitive information on public display unencumbered but the camera carrying citizen is stopped, must wait for covering up of sensitive info, or otherwise restricted simply because of the camera, then the CITY OFFICIALS are in violation of privacy laws and must take action to comply rather than discriminating against said camera carrying citizen.

What an amazing audit. Very professional and you had all different camera angles, including audio from their camera. Kudos man, great video! Fully exposed, full transparency. Even a blind person can see what goes on in government and how they perceive a polite and respectful member of the public who knows his rights, "an unfortunate inconvenience".

I tell my students all the time that we are who we are, no matter how others behave. Don't allow others to have the power to make you angry or rude. Of course, that's easier said than done. I love the editing and the inclusion of the footage from all the body cams and ceiling cams and auto cams and all the other omnipresent cams that surround us. The Mayor needs a trip to a therapist about her phobias which I suspect would go a long way to calming her staff's paranoia. The staff also needs a good mentor to teach them about making calls for help with minor problems, i.e., those that do not indicate the need for immediate, aggressive, and armed intervention - because that is what cops LIVE FOR and often provide with great, although unnecessary, vigor.

Hitting an emergency button for a non emergency should be treated the same as making a non 911 call. I really like how you professionally handle yourself & not curse anyone. I didn’t like how the mayor acted, but the officers overall done a fine job. I do disagree with them hanging out when there is obviously no threat.
SUNY Brockport graduate here! Thanks for the nostalgia trip, it's been a long time since I saw my old community. I am disappointed though, that the mayor does not know, understand, or respect the First Amendment! This could have been a perfect opportunity to express how proud she is Brockport and being a community leader. Instead, right to the panic button... Hope they take this as a learning opportunity. ☮️

Never ceases to amaze me the ongoing ignorance of Public officials, or should I say they think they have special privilege and laws don't apply to them. I'm increasingly disappointed the police in general. I've always been an advocate for the police. But the exposure you and other's have brought to light in terms of the cops thinking their shit doesn't stink is stunning. Not to mention they (many times) bring an entire militia for one guy with a camera. I live close to Brockport, in Rochester NY... I really hope you're efforts are helping to educate these folks. This is probably one of the best videos I've watched regarding editing. The cutting in of the body cam and surveillance footage really adds to the viewing without needlessly extending watch time.

How can they not understand that if the information is viewable in publicly accessible areas, then the information CAN get out whether a person with an obvious camera records it or not?
At about 11 minutes in you said that the county doesn't maintain these records. This is a blatant lie! The county maintains 100% of these records including all fines and fees, the total disposition of the charges and fines paid. However, the clerks that were tasked with completing your request probably just didn't know how to get that information or who to pass the request on to as they are obligated to do.
Absolutely true; the fiscal manager better have a very accurate accounting of every dime they've taken off of community members.
