    But I'll do my best to keep making stuff. Hope you enjoy this one! Pay very close attention to it!

    Musicians: Alright, so our song is in 6/4 time at 150 BPM.
    DDR programmer: Ooh, a song in 4/4 time at 50 BPM, with triplets. We haven't implemented triplets in our game, so we have to approximate them to the nearest 64th note, and the problem is exacerbated at slow tempos, but oh well. There's no better way to chart this.
    Musicians: Actually, if you set the chart to 150--
    DDR programmers: I SAID THERE'S NO BETTER WAY TO CHART THIS

      I actually had a moment like that as well. I charted Unwanted from Avril Lavigne and was trying my best, but the chart did not make sense. I could not get the flow right... I checked if BPM was right, but my usual 4/4 patterns did not fit... until I noticed it is in 3/4 time. Adjusted the patterns and boom, great chart! Adjusted the videos also to change after 3 measures instead of 4 and everything came back together.

    Interesting fact about Ballad For You on this video:
    Ballad For You's Double Expert chart is actually still off-sync in the ending like the original Supernova chart was. Although single expert's ending was fixed, double expert's ending was not because the double charts were created with the old sync in mind. Despite that, the quantization is mostly fixed on Double Expert except for the ending.

    My goodness, I'll Make Love To You's quantization in DDR SuperNOVA is so dreadful. What's ironic is how I got a black flag with the arrow speed set to x3 a few times, yet I seemed to get more GREATs with it set to x5. Even if I spend more than enough time in Training Mode, I don't think I'm gonna score a perfect full combo for this song anytime soon.

    • @jasonmartinez5116
      @jasonmartinez5116 Год назад +1

      @@MikeTheEntei Incorrect quantization and BPM at the beginning. The beginning steps are fourths, however because it was misstepped there the BPM slows down at the first gallops to make it on sync. This makes it very difficult to PFC and many have had issues getting a PFC because of that part. In DDR X - present this was fixed by shifting the beginning quarter notes to half a beat earlier to 8th notes, which removes the slow down, making it way easier to PFC

  • @johndoe-yw7eb
    @johndoe-yw7eb Год назад +3

    I don't like the idea that, "the errors make it an extra challenge". This implies that the devs shouldn't prioritize making sure a rhythm game actually has proper rhythms. Playing a song with rhythm or sync errors is unnecessarily frustrating.

    I have some old Stepmania full DDR release song packs from 2002. I'm guessing that means ALL of those soundpacks replicated the incorrect quantization? I distinctly remember that Ordinary World one and I always wondered why it felt off to play.

      Also thanks for responding. Your video showed up on an Ordinary World song video... I was getting nostalgic and listened to that and the algorithm blessed me with your vid.
      My state had a lot of converted DDR USA to DDR 8th Extreme JP machines. That's where I stopped playing. It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do with the later mixes. Did the Western/SEA releases differ from the JP releases? I am mainly familiar with 8th Extreme JP on both the arcade and PS2 being the last one I played l.

    Crazy Control Expert on HOTTEST PARTY 3 has weird quantization errors at the ending where the normal 12th notes it has are replaced by nearest 32nds and 16ths. This was like done to keep the steps in rhythm with the vocals, but that alone makes it a bit more difficult to PFC but it's definitely doable (if you PFC without gimmicks it's an AA, with gimmicks it's an AAA since Crazy Control requires gimmicks to properly AAA). Surprisingly, the DDR X2 US CS expert chart still has the proper 12ths.
    Timestamped to show the quantization errors.

    • @jasonmartinez5116
      @jasonmartinez5116 2 года назад

      Another thing:
      This could possibly be because of a quirk with HOTTEST PARTY 3's engine, since it was mostly modified from HP2 which had mostly had the old sync prior to DDR X.

      Another song I would like to mention is the original Expert and Difficult charts for The Island Song from DDR 2010. The original charts had the 24th triplets mischarted as 16ths, making the rhythm sound strange but relatively easy to PFC. Difficult doesn't have much problems, but it's mostly well seen on Expert. These charts were later fixed in DDR 2013, where they used proper 24ths. Although I will have to say that the ending jump is a bit more difficult on the fixed version, but still an easy PFC to get.

      Another song I know with quantization issues:
      MATSURI (J-Summer Mix) in DDR Festival also has quantization issues everywhere, mostly incorrect inputs. Most of the notes were 16ths or 8ths. Although the chart was fixed in DDR Supernova, it's slightly different compared to Festival's, especially at the long freeze arrow sequence in the middle where some of the notes were removed which is a shame.
