  • This is a quick response video to Seth Skorkowsky's wonderful Type S review.
    In it I address some of the issues that Seth himself bought up and also acknowledged that he was working off the prototype. There were a few misunderstandings about how to remove the drive compartment correctly, as well as tollerances of the landing gear (and we need to be better in our documentation I suppose as well).
    So in the greatest of RUclips traditions, we present a quick response video.

    After watching Seth’s video, I am so tempted to buy this ship. I don’t even play Traveler.

      The Megacorporate CEO bundle looks insanely good, and I don't play Traveller, either. What couldn't you do with this, really, especially if you're able to do some 3D modelling yourself for custom add-ons.

    Regarding pulling out the engineering deck, that sounds like a clarification in the instructions would help.
    Seth did, several times, say that he was working off older files.
    I think his review was very fair, and got a lot of people excited about this ship and any future projects of yours.

    This is an outstanding ship. I am printing it now (on the Prusa MK3) and it is going well. I can't wait for the Beowulf. Keep up the good work. You are the best role-playing spaceship modellers out there bar none.

    I am about 40% of the way through printing one. I did up the scale to 115%, so that I would not have to re-base some of the models that I planned on using in it. I will say that increasing the size, and that I am using mostly PLA (with a few of the very high detail areas in resin) seems to have eliminated most of the problems that Seth had mentioned with his print.
    I really look forward to the Free Trader that you are developing! Maybe it will be possible to make some easy to swap in rooms for the slightly different Far Trader too.

    • @2ndDynasty3D

      If the Beowulf does well, we will do the Far Trader I think.

    • @jimsutter2748
      @jimsutter2748 3 года назад +4

      @@2ndDynasty3D Excellent! Both the Free Trader and Far Trader are with the same Beowulf hull, but the Far Trader is meant for longer distance jumps and has more fuel storage and larger jump drives and slightly smaller everything else (sorry, if I am explaining something you already know). I think they only have 6 cryopods; so, that would alleviate the over packing cryopods in the medibay that you mentioned in one of your earlier development videos. I have not been playing Traveller very long, but have the impression that more people use a the Far Trader variant of the Beowulf as the Jump 2 drive gives more flexibility to the PCs in a campaign.

    Honestly, his video didn't even need a response - it was the best advertising possible because it was honest to a fault and still showed how awesome the model is ^^' I mean, I get the need to correct stuff that you have improved/fixed by now or that Seth got wrong but the video feels a tad negative considering how positive his review was and how hyped he was about the ship ;D

    Finally gotten around to buying the ship (yeah, been watching Seth's review as well) and doing an all-resin print as we speak (with my buddy and Referee going to be the one who gets the "honor" of having to assemble and paint it). The detail on the ship is fantastic, well, well, worth a resin job.
    Yes, it does get prohibitively expensive, why do you ask? :) But hey, a Scout Ship is worth anything, ain't it?

      @@2ndDynasty3DWe will, it's gonna take a while, though. But I got almost all the major parts printed now (the big ones), interiors are more fiddly. We might have to do the connectors in filament, but the visible parts will be in resin to show off the incredible detail you put into the models. It's really amazing that you can even make out every single armor plate on the hull, every single nut and bolt to connect them.
      I have a bit of a hard time with the flimsier walls, that may need some careful work, but so far the parts look absolutely stunning!

    I can't wait to print this out. Though I'll be switching out some materials for extended games. My groups usually play with 32mm or 54mm models depending on the type of setting so I hope changing up the size a little wont change much. Most sci-fi miniatures we use are 32mm. Anything that doesn't seem stable enough for my group I can always drill in few holes with a pin vice and add some metal for support. I already see a few spots for some rare earth magnets

    LOL you always have to fart around a bit with 3d printed stuff (I equate it with having a classic muscle car). I bounced over to your web page page to check out your prices expecting to go into sticker shock. For the complexity of the model the price is freaking great.
    I so want to grab it next time I have some extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. It's cool enough just to have as a display item.

    question not related to the model, but canonically do the air rafts fly out of the top of the ship or how does that work?

    • @2ndDynasty3D
      @2ndDynasty3D  2 года назад

      The air rafts use anti-gravity in Traveller, as do the ships actually - they are dependent on proximity to gravity wells for propulsion. The garage is maybe a misnomer - in the original deck plans they are more like storage boxes, there is no room to get around. I assume that the garage door would open, and a platform extend so that the crew can access. In my ships, I have enlarged the garages so that crew could board the vehicles, but basically, they just take off and dock from where they are, but have no exhaust to worry about.

    • @tomkelly00
      @tomkelly00 2 года назад +1

      @@2ndDynasty3D that’s pretty much what I was thinking, so then the garage door must be right above it, right? Or maybe to the side but at an angle in order to clear the fuel tanks
