Rest in peace, Maestro.
Jim referred to my analysis of his song in this very entertaining talk he gave. I was told about this by a mutual friend, who put me in touch with Jim and we briefly messaged each other.
As a songwriter and performer myself, I can tell you the things that really make you feel a sense of arrival are quite unexpected and often surprising. For me, it was a single person waving excitedly at me as I walked on stage at the Marble Palace in St Petersburg for my Elton show. That single moment made all the years of performing worthwhile.
Jim said to me that my analysis was "the most exciting thing I have ever watched." He said this to me privately, and I can't prove it, and that's exactly as it should be. That comment in particular really moved me as you can imagine, but not because of anything it means about me. it moved me because of what my bagatelle of a rambling analysis gave him.
So, what I'm really saying is please, reach out to those you admire, and do it today.
