I need the taller bucket as my knees are toast. And weighing in at about 260, I would use two buckets as one bucket buckled on me once. Not a good thing.
Me, too! Why use a cassette toilet that needs to be emptied and cleaned. I love my bucket with wood pellets. I use a gamma lid so there's no possibility of a spill. Stays in my van all the time. Not going to use some dirty public toilet.
@DenaInWyo, I've camped with many people who are quite happy with the simple 5gal bucket method. Finding whatever works for you is all that matters. More soon...safe travels!
@@BudgetTravelGuy Will be honest to the point of TMI here: I have a giant bedroom over the garage in my 1959 home. It's like the Queen's suite, with an outdoor balcony and everything, and I love it. Was added on to the home in the 80s. The problem is, there are 18 steep stairs to get here and I am old. Old = at least one, if not three bathroom runs a night. Not gonna lie, there is a bucket chamber pot up here that gets carried downstairs in the morning ;) Between that and my camping experience, bucket all the way.
Pine pellets used for horse bedding work great in the bottom of any bag systems. The pellets break down when they get wet. They really help keep any odors at bay. Check your local feed store or places like Tractor Supply. Only drawback is they come in large bags.
I have a toilet stool frame something like the medical one, but it doesn’t have arms or a back or receptacle. Only folding frame and a seat, simple. I use a dollar store bucket with it, mostly as an organizer. I sit, pee in a cup, poop in a plastic grocery bag stretched over bucket. Pee paper goes into a grocery trash sack, poo paper stays with the poo. I pour from cup into a plastic jug through a funnel made from the cut off top of nearly any drink bottle, no spill, empty when convenient, have a spare funnel. Poo bag goes into the urgent garbage. Other paper not so urgent, I can wait until it’s sack is full. To store, I put a new sack onto the bucket, put pee jug in that, also cup and funnel, TP, any sanitizer wipes, spray bottle, etc. Those items have their own zip baggies, bags in bags. I move the jug and stuff out of the way when using next time, pack back up when finished in a stretched new sack. Flatten folded seat, stash that and bucket. Works for me. I have also used many times indoors when ill or water is off, or toilet is down the hall. Anticlimactic.
Tony, sounds like you've found what works best for you as far as a van toilet. I met several people that are quite happy using the 5gal bucket system. More soon..safe travels!
Hey Kevin, I'm with you on this one. I have and use a Thetford. I keep it inside a nice leather ottoman which doubles as something to sit on or a bedside table, plus take the lid off and turn it over and there's a built in serving tray.
von, I had never thought of using an ottoman in a van, but that's an interesting idea, as you've figured out how to give it multiple uses! More soon...safe travels!
I have a Luggable Loo (bucket with toilet lid) that I use with a white garbage bag, pine pellets put in the corners before inserting in the bucket, then more after, for anything runny. If you soak some pine pellets in water and stir them up, you get nice sawdust cover material. A little goes a long way. And a pee bottle never hurts, either. :) I like your pose at the beginning. The Thinker. Or in this case, The Stinker. :) Jon in rural BC, Canada
I have used the bucket method with different size buckets with a bag and pine pellets. I also have a foldable "bucket" that I believe you shared on here years ago. When I get to camp I set it up with bag and pellets. I made a lid for mine but some come with a lid. It has come in very handy when, like you said, the weather wasn't worth going outside.
We have used the portable toilet, the bucket, the LNT cat hole and a bed pan. I have liked the old Tip Picks that passes for an ottoman or night stand in the minivan or Jeep but packs down small when you are in town and likely will not need it. We use horse bedding pellets as a medium and most of the time I use a female urinal, natella or nut butter jar for pee. During CoVid I was happy to have access to my own toilet because most of the public toilets were locked. Paired with an IKEA poncho you can.... go about anywhere. Nothing to see here... move along...😊 Thank you for another informative video.
I use a Luggable Lou even though my class b has a toilet. I ordered the insert to absorb liquid - im going to try it for the 1st time this weekend. Before i used hamster bedding because i already had some at home. I dont recommend using this. Not very absorbing. I dont use my toilet inside the rv because if im out for a few days i hate dumping, and the toilet room is so tight.
Don't own one yet but looking for compact one. Is the TripTips toilet truly adjustable (and locks in place too) at any height 3.2-13" ?? I have a minivan with raised floor to level it and a long torso so not much height available for toilet. Based on other YT testing, I plan to try LaSyl powder as a urine absorber in lieu of pellets based on performance and space/weight. Thx for the video!
Michelle, the Triptips is adjustable/lockable to about 10 different height settings. If you grab one through the link in the vid description, be sure to let me know how it works out for you. More soon..safe travels.
Interesting on the Bivvy Loo...I looked up some info on it, but it appears to not be available in the USA (hopefully that will change). More soon...safe travels!
You would double or triple bag the waste and dispose of it in a dumpster. If you use a portable toilet, you could dump it in a toilet at the rest stops.
@groovershowmydog answered that perfectly for you, Thomas, as far as getting rid of the waste from these various van toilets. More soon...safe travels!
Good tip about Kitty Litter. That second one (Triptips) is solid as long as you MAKE SURE everything is locked before sitting on it. More soon..safe travels!

3 gallon bucket is my choice of emergency toilet. Same diameter lid as a 5 gallon bucket, yet much more compact.
OkieBobby, Good point on the 3gal buckets being the same diameter. More soon...safe travels!

I have been looking high and low for a 3 gallon bucket with the same diameter as the 5 gallon. If you have a link, I would be very grateful. Thanks!
And to add to the bucket toilet its easy to clean, if there is a problem with the bag, ,so far I have not had that problem yet
After the dozens of options I've looked at and vids I've watched, I am convinced a bucket is the way to go.

I have the toilet seat for the bucket, and I love it ,, small trash bags are somthing that does not leak is so easy, no mess

Triptips is my go to, like the adjustability low on my seat or higher for floor use
jjrobinson9759, glad you've found what works best for you! (another vote for triptips). More soon...safe travels!

That only works if you can carry 3 gallons of liquid. Many of us can not carry or lift that much weight at a time.

Good tips, Anita. I really like the idea you had of using the folding toilet as a nightstand. More soon...safe travels!
Thanks for the video!
I used a foldable plastic bucket and three bags. I would get it setup when I am in the car for the night. I used gel solution for #1 and #2.
Thanks for sharing that toilet system you're using. Have you been happy with using the gel solution?
@@BudgetTravelGuy Yeah, I like the gel it makes the liquid firm and easy to trash.

also cabin life worthy.... Ny ideas for the lingering smell? Not me of course mine don't stink...😂
Great scents, put a lid on it. Works really well. Pick it up at the dollar store

Bucket,bag, cat litter. Thats it.
Keeping it simple! As long as your system works for you, that's what matters! More soon....safe travels!
You shouls try the Bivvy loo camping toilet. Its compact but more sturdier than the plastic toilets that are also compact.
Interesting on the Bivvy Loo...I looked up some info on it, but it appears to not be available in the USA (hopefully that will change). More soon...safe travels!
Where so you dump the porta potty
You would double or triple bag the waste and dispose of it in a dumpster. If you use a portable toilet, you could dump it in a toilet at the rest stops.

if you used the number 2 for number 2..looks like a good chance you will end up in it. Kitty litter is good for absorption.
Good tip about Kitty Litter. That second one (Triptips) is solid as long as you MAKE SURE everything is locked before sitting on it. More soon..safe travels!
