Man, between the calming baritone and the medically necessary eyepatch and the deep rumbling laugh, I don't know whether to be terrified or calmed by Dale's ultimately imposing presence at the top of the screen. In any event, I'm glad he's DMing! Super glad he's back doing some LRR stuff! :D
Dale: *panicked voice* "Give me your rock! Give me your rock! Give me your rock!" Kathleen: O_O *fakes putting a rock back in* Dale: *DM voice* "Give me a roll." Okay, Dale is an awesome DM. I'm hooked.
While Beej and Paul are solid, Kathleen really shines in this one with her idealistic airhead teenage elf, followed closely by Graham's constantly shit on Snak. And Dale is awesome as a DM, providing solid guidance and direction, but at the same time allowing his players room for creativity and input, being willing to adapt to them. And, of course, Featherweight's illustrations adding life to the proceedings. Loving it so far! The part with the curse stones was particularly well played by everyone and handled VERY well by Dale.
Finally listening through these. "Oh! Chult! I'm running a Tomb game right now!" "The mayor is sick in a way you've never seen before." "Wait..." "You remember that both of these people have been raised from the dead at some point in their lives" "OH BOY! I KNOW WHAT DALE'S DOING!"
Kathleen, I love Morra's words about how much scarier her mom is. Both you and Graham are great, interacting. So happy for you that you enjoy gaming together. I have friends who have been together for decades, and I know gaming has helped. :)
1:45:17 Basic Rules Page 75. "For example, if you score a critical hit with a dagger, roll 2d4 for the damage, rather than 1d4, and then add your relevant ability modifier. If the attack involves other damage dice, such as from the rogue's Sneak Attack feature, you roll those dice twice as well."
Just wanted to say a couple things: 1) So happy you guys are doing D&D again, after temple at the lava bears I started listening to other (less entertaining) D&D podcasts to hold me over. 2) love the layout and color scheme\general setup of Dice Friends, especially the little extra text under each of the characters (Snak Stack Attack!).
I'll admit, I actually was not at all hype for this, perhaps because I've never watched Temple of the Lava Bears and DnD has never particularly interested me. Well, now I'm hype. I am so in. This was great. I loved it, and I desire more of it.
Temple of the Lava Bears was wonderful. If you ever have the time, I recommend going back and giving it a watch. Jer is beautifully sadistic as DM. It's great.
I actually watched the Twitch VOD before this went up, just to rewatch that fantastic Featherweight intro and say that having missed previous D&D content, this is now ~highly~ anticipated.
I've never seen Dale before but I think he is doing a great job as DM. Entertaining and creative. High hopes for this series. Love Kathleen's rogue Morra!
It was an amazing stream. Such a joy to see this. You can really see that all of them are having fun and enjoying themselves with this, while also making a good stream to watch. Dale is fantastic in his role as DM and I really like the characters that the crew came up with. I cannot wait for the next episode and see how badly they can mess up further! Dale, you wrote a great story! Lots of comedy and interesting set pieces.
Mad props to whoever fixed the layout of the screens before this was uploaded. Everything reads and feels so much better this way. I remember thinking it felt off on twitch but had to go back and check to make sure that was actually a thing that changed. Good job on that and also the whole stream was great, look forward to more.
Graham's second curse rock being the one with his blood on it is improbable. XD I love it! They have a knack for that sort of thing, is the best I can gather from this and the Shame Infernos over the last year or so.
I played a bit of D&D in college, never really got into it. Turns out I didn't know any creative DMs! I'm only 40 minutes in and this is way more interesting than any game I've played.
This stuff is pretty damn interesting, absolutely wonderful to see you guys play and record dnd again! The pink-purple of the overlay feels a tad strong on the eyes, but overall, the overlay looks really nice (seriously, ya did a superb job with it!). Especially love the characters in the bottom, the artwork, and the quotes. Really liked the several camera angles at once, really put the whole thing into the right perspective, got a nice clear image of what the overall mood was and how everyone was reacting to things. Also really loved the constantly changing stuff in the upper right corner, that was a really nice addition. DM has a great DM voice. So, yeah, overall, i think you really nailed this. Great work to everyone involved! Looking forward to more, tho shame that as someone living in the EU, i can't really watch the stream live.
You can watch episode one here: m.ruclips.net/video/asPwTthfJFk/видео.html Alternatively, it is a podcast on most podcast apps, just search for “Temple of the Lava Bears.”
Eryk Weber The funny thing is is that I don’t really have any interest in DND how about both of these have been pretty good so far. Going to take a long time to get through lava Bears
What would have been really funny would be if Graham had not performed a roll for trying to sneak the curse rock back in as Snak, but instead put a blank piece of paper in his hand and pretended to pull that from the bowl. Sure, Dale would uncover this deception when he asks for his Curse ID, but I would interpret this as a passed skill check when you metagame this hard :D
Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't go there for the explanation, considering both are WotC products and there are even D&D/MtG crossover adventures. I figured Graham in particular would make that connection.
Ye! Everyone ride the T-rex back, get the spider to build a stronger bridge for everyone, and when you're all in front of the prison king, point to him, and say to the T-rex "That's the guy who wants to take one of your eyes!"
Small question bout the cursed rocks...the curse starts when a character takes it out of the basket, correct?...but the sage handed them each their rocks...so the sage has all their curses?
This is an odd request, but would it be possible to get hold of Paul's initiative widget code on his github or somesuch? I used to maintain something of the sort myself, but broke it trying to update it to meet the requirements of my game (and I have neither the time nor the residual understanding of the javascript environment I wrote it in to fix it). This is assuming that Dale or Heather is controlling incrementing the initiative, which then updates the overlay.
Would it ever be possible to get an audio form of this? I'd love to listen to this while I'm at work/driving, but I can't be watching videos, for obvious reasons. Id love to just download it and have headphones in while I work.
Graham, good jokes about your PC's name. If you are a gleeful killer in battle (worth a lot of points as a disadvantage in Hero System), you can be Snicker Snak.
"Hairy ears" definitely for an Inspiration. Thanks for reminding me. It's something I hope only you four guys have to face, when you get older. Eventually, you'll want an electric razor. Every other day electric, in rotation with manual, is plenty. :/
So it _is_ medically necessary. Sorry about my last comment which you may or may not have seen, I misread. Anyway yeah, huh.
Dale: *panicked voice* "Give me your rock! Give me your rock! Give me your rock!"
Kathleen: O_O *fakes putting a rock back in*
Dale: *DM voice* "Give me a roll."
Okay, Dale is an awesome DM. I'm hooked.
Session 2: Double Jail
Session 3: Trouble equal to Morra's mom
Session 4: A fate worse than death
Session 5: A fate that literally IS death
Eivind Hillesund (i was kind of implying they became undead in ep 4, but sure)
Oh, okay. So would a better follow-up have been "Session 5: A fate worse than undeath"?
While Beej and Paul are solid, Kathleen really shines in this one with her idealistic airhead teenage elf, followed closely by Graham's constantly shit on Snak. I will always love the way Dale phrases things as a DM.
Holy crap that into. Mad props to Featherweight. I've missed LRR's DnD... This gon' be gooooooood~
Kathleen's eco-warrior is an amazing character concept, but I think Paul wins purely by being the fluffiest.
And Paul's character is almost as fluffy, too!
Kathleen, I love Morra's words about how much scarier her mom is. Both you and Graham are great, interacting. So happy for you that you enjoy gaming together. I have friends who have been together for decades, and I know gaming has helped. :)
You guys weren't kidding about turning this around quickly!
Yep, Sneak Attack on a crit is nuts.
(Though, a Paladin's smite is even more nuts in this context, because you get to decide to do it after you crit.)
man 5e is weird
Just wanted to say a couple things: 1) So happy you guys are doing D&D again, after temple at the lava bears I started listening to other (less entertaining) D&D podcasts to hold me over. 2) love the layout and color scheme\general setup of Dice Friends, especially the little extra text under each of the characters (Snak Stack Attack!).

Temple of the Lava Bears was wonderful. If you ever have the time, I recommend going back and giving it a watch. Jer is beautifully sadistic as DM. It's great.
I did, actually. It was a good time.
I actually watched the Twitch VOD before this went up, just to rewatch that fantastic Featherweight intro and say that having missed previous D&D content, this is now ~highly~ anticipated.

I'm adoring Dale DM'ing this tale. I want a Dale of my own!
Mad props to whoever fixed the layout of the screens before this was uploaded. Everything reads and feels so much better this way. I remember thinking it felt off on twitch but had to go back and check to make sure that was actually a thing that changed. Good job on that and also the whole stream was great, look forward to more.
I'm glad you are uploading this here because I 100% would have missed it otherwise.
40 points of ACID DAMAGE
Graham's second curse rock being the one with his blood on it is improbable. XD I love it! They have a knack for that sort of thing, is the best I can gather from this and the Shame Infernos over the last year or so.
Loved the overlay! Seen a fair amount of actual plays and its about the best.
Bontan the Super chill Albino Dwarf cleric :D
I think it's because they don't have all that armour chafing
He’s pretty gentle and quiet. I think he’s going to play pretty chill (though I’m interested to see what happens when he gets angry).
Ahh where it all began. Quarantine rewatch time.
this is why i love lrr!!!! these people are soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this is your first time watching this campaign, you are in for a treat
God, the sheer chaos of the rock scene is wonderful.
I love the artistic touch that the backgroud pattern is a lot of dice, but without making it to obvious by having numbers or dots on the sides.
I played a bit of D&D in college, never really got into it. Turns out I didn't know any creative DMs! I'm only 40 minutes in and this is way more interesting than any game I've played.
-most people who've tried D&D.
YYYYYYYEAH!!! MORE LLR DND! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Really enjoyed that, looking forward to seeing what else these heroes get up to.
This stuff is pretty damn interesting, absolutely wonderful to see you guys play and record dnd again! Just found this and I'm going to be massively enjoying catching up on this.
This show got me to plat D&D AL, some of the best Saturdays.
This is still one of the best things you guys do.
People have said this already but man I love DM Dale! This is my first encounter but I've heard he has a history with LRR.
Duranous You should check out some previous AFK streams with him. I just watched TIME Stories today, was real good.
Good to know, will check them out!
He’s been around for a very long time. I haven’t seen him in ages!
The thing I like best about this is it's an ACTUAL PLAY series.
Holy crap this is way better than I expected it to be
Have you watched/ listened to "Temple of the Lava Bears"? It is pretty much like this, only with Jeremy Petter as a DM instead of Dale.
Eryk Weber no. I’ll check it out. Where can I find it?
You can watch episode one here: m.ruclips.net/video/asPwTthfJFk/видео.html
Alternatively, it is a podcast on most podcast apps, just search for “Temple of the Lava Bears.”
Eryk Weber The funny thing is is that I don’t really have any interest in DND how about both of these have been pretty good so far. Going to take a long time to get through lava Bears
So stoaked for Dale and the crew.
Love the overlay
YaY! DnD and Dale as DM! So much Love! ❤️🎉❤️
Love that Morra claims the leade "because she's tallest." And GM hands the ltoken of command over the others' heads. :)
I don't know who is in charge of the comments /jokes beside Dale but they're hilarious
That was Heather. She is indeed brilliant!
Dale Friesen This was great! Can't wait for more
Those were one of my favorite parts of a stream which I very much enjoyed.
Finnaly. Been so hyped for more d&d from you guys
Just came here from Dragon's Orders--I can't wait to watch the prequel!
This is probably not the best campaign I've watched but ?Boy this one is starting STRONG, love it!
Kathleen, you cracked me up, when you cracked up the rest of them. You
re best, so far. :D
It's been about 2 years and 11 months since Temple of the Lava bears ended and i've been waiting for LRR to do D&D again since then!
But who's counting
Yes, Adam, YEEEES! I've been waiting for this since the finale of Lava Bears!
This is everything I need in my life
This is cool, I have been waiting for a new D & D game from you guys.
Love the layout too. Works well.
It's nice to see Paul on camera, we barely see him these days.
I was in the middle of watching this last night when I lost power so glad that it got up so fast
The dm’s voice is great
Dale has the warmest laugh.
Love the intro.
As an Australian, i can indeed say there are dinosaurs here. They make excellent omlette eggs
This is so much goddamn fun. I love how well you play your characters, but i guess that comes with being an actor. Definetly more!
Just finished the VoD...hell I'll let RUclips run it again for the full view. So good everyone, can't wait till next week's episode!!!
I'm not a big D&Dsm'n by any stretch, but I really enjoyed this. I'm really looking forward to more.
Cannot wait for the next one of these!
So this is where the red fern grows?
Oof I remember that book
How am I just now seeing LRR did a new DnD campaign? Temple of the Lava Bears was fantastic, looking forward to watching this one too.
Yay D&D!!
This was good times. I'm looking forward to more! :D
Who did the intro song? It's friggen sweet! Also, yay D&D!
Oh they fixed the sides post-stream which is cool. Hope it stays fixed so people are on the right side of the screen during the next one.
WrightJustice They said on Twitter after the stream that's the plan going forward.
1:50:19 The stack.
Snak goes on the stack... does it resolve?
Yes it does hahaha
Dude Graham Stark killed it! Australia.
And yes there are poisonous birds in australia.
Pluther etc.
I adore Kathleen's angsty teen rebellion phase.
Hi LRR! Great episode! Any way to post copies of the character sheets each week to better follow along?
South American influences + dinosaurs? Sounds like Ixalan. :P
Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't go there for the explanation, considering both are WotC products and there are even D&D/MtG crossover adventures. I figured Graham in particular would make that connection.
To be fair... G had been awake for like... 13-14ish hours by the start of it
Yo, that intro theme is dope. Is there a full version?
Ye! Everyone ride the T-rex back, get the spider to build a stronger bridge for everyone, and when you're all in front of the prison king, point to him, and say to the T-rex "That's the guy who wants to take one of your eyes!"
how did i miss these series of DND ? xD
I don't think Kathleen added her Dex to her damage roll... I don't know if any of them are adding the Ability Modifier to damage rolls
Oh god I want more of this! XD
omg im so exited for this seriessss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Snak: no but seriously, t-rex bad. Stay away from t-rexes. I can't believe I have to argue this point.
Around 5 minutes, when Paul introduces his character- Dande. I suddenly want him to acquire the nickname LITTLE GREEN.
Only if we start a Snak owned count.
ghostbirdofprey He was the only one severely injured, wasn't he?
Someone ask Grant if he's got the Ding noise they use.
This was almost a year ago...
It's been over 2 years by now...
Does Dale actually wear an eyepatch?
Yes. I have a damaged retina.
Dale Friesen I gotta say, it's a really good look for you!
Thanks. :)
Dale Friesen It gives you kind of a "hello mister Bond" look. In a good way, I promise!
Sorry to hear that, any chance of some healing or is it permanent?
I adored watching this and cant wait for the next one
very high energy character Kathleen.
Small question bout the cursed rocks...the curse starts when a character takes it out of the basket, correct?...but the sage handed them each their rocks...so the sage has all their curses?
Cinereous that was for non-meta gaming purposes, since morra's dud was obviously a different paper.
This is assuming that Dale or Heather is controlling incrementing the initiative, which then updates the overlay.
oh god it was six years ago
But actually, GM, that's hillarious. :D
Wow you actually flipped it turways!! Nice! It is as sooo annoying while watching the twitch vid....
"Hairy ears" definitely for an Inspiration. Thanks for reminding me. It's something I hope only you four guys have to face, when you get older. Eventually, you'll want an electric razor. Every other day electric, in rotation with manual, is plenty. :/
So this is set in basically grixis then?
You should make these streamslots 3h instead of 2h
Does anyone know the schedule for this? I am already in love with the series, and I am looking to book stream night off for work.
Christopher Park Monday nights @ 17:00 PST
Brendan Dery Thanks

1:50:00 I know Graham is Role Playing his Batiri Goblin, but the battle stacks are a really bad design
Stupid RUclips, only letting me upvote this video once! >:O
Does a 4 hit?
When gram shot his bow in melee range he would still have disadvantage.
