I've had farro but never in a million years would I have thought of cooking it this way. The idea of the chewy and creamy textures together in this grain is so appealing. And it even looks easy to make. I've gotta actually try this one.
not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream all the new series on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown :)
@Trace Nathaniel Yea, been using Instaflixxer for years myself =)
Farro's LoveLy@ CheWS, & Seems To Need EXTRA HERBS & SPICES@ WHOLE COOKINGS, TOOK Like an Hour.
I'm with Erin on cutting onions. I always find it easier to make my horizontal cuts first. Which, for some reason, TV cooks almost never do.
I'm a little lazy, I skip horizontal cuts. I halve the onion, make very narrow vertical cuts, then very narrow slices against the grain. I come up with a nice fine dice. Need a sharp knife!

They say that's all you really need. I do both. Habit.
One of my go-to recipes is a creamy carrot farro. I have always used pearled farro, but definitely going to try the blender method. Great video!
My sister brought me a bag of farro from Italy - don't know which type it is, but I am definitely going to make this risotto!
In my family that would call for a Sharpie marker and a T-shirt. It would read My sister went all the way to Italy and all I got was the bag of farro.
You kind of have to be there though😋
@@lareinadiondra6027 She lives in Italy. She was here on vacation last year and she did bring me a lot of other things. :-) I only mentioned the farro because of the video recipe. By the way, I'm making this farro dish right now, but instead of using chicken broth, I'm using the water from soaking dry porcini mushrooms (which my sister also brought for me from Italy!)
As a farro fanatic I approve of this recipe. My only comment is that when you are cooking whole farro you can cook it in 20-30 minutes and it will be fine to eat, farro very 'al dente' is delightful. Then the leftovers can be reheated, and cooked in various ways. Farro is the perfect grain for cooking up a big batch on Sunday and eating it though the week.
Do you eat it plain or add something?
@@bentleyr00d Sometimes, with a little salt and olive oil. But it's incredibly versatile you can add all kinds of flavorings; mushrooms, herbs, tomatoes, cheeses, ect.
It's HeavenLy😊@ Hi Herbs & SpiceS.
Awesome! I love using whole grains - looks delicious!
Yes Very Nice, & That LidiaLady made a Risotto@ SteeL Cut Oats, i' Think This Recipe would Work 4 That ➕ FenneL, bye
Followed Instructions but Used 10 minute farro and it came out perfectly.
I'm ready to start eating soft food, as I've had my teeth extracted a May 22. I need this now, I'm starved. Lol. Going to get the groceries and pig right out. Thanks so much girls. I just love you all so much. I've watched you grow up right in my living room. 🌹🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏🙏
Can’t wait to make this, I love grains.
How do I get my husband a job with you guys? He uses your recipes every night now and I've never eaten better. I will sell our house and move anywhere. Ella's potato recipe changed my life. I hate potato skins, but he converted me with your recipe.
Love these recipe videos for creamy parm farrotto
This looks delicious!
This looks so good!!!!
You gals are awesome, always something new, thanks.
Could use vegetable broth as well. Also, could add Portabello mushrooms to it also. Can you make it with pearled farro? Easier?
Yes ShROOMS, & maybe This Method/Steps couLd Make a SteeL Cut s, Left WhoLe +Add ? FenneL Saute with Onions, Peace
Great vid ladies!
I'm waiting for the short ribs and I'll make a meal out of it! - LOLOL LOLOL LOLOL !
Creamy Parmesan Farrotto.
1/4 cup beans
1/2 cup grain
1 liter chicken stalk
1/2 stick butter
1/2 diced onion
1 clove minced garlic
2 teaspoon Thyme
1 cup Parmesean
1 tablespoon Parsley
I thought the thumbnail was a snake in a bowl. Just wanted to say that. Thank you for the recipe though!
Can you use vegetable, mushroom or beef broth? Poultry allergy.
Mushroom or vegetable.
Beef is a bit strong.
Disciple of Shaun thank you!
Also, prior to adding stock and/or water of choice add 1/2 c white wine. Yummy. Alcohol will cook off but adds such flavor.
Risotto has the Italian root word for rice in it, hence *risotto* . Needed to present that slightly differently. Is there a comparable dish made with farina?
If rice makes risotto and farro makes farrotto, maybe farina makes farinatto?
ETA
I got curious and googled it, but all I could find was farinata, which is a sort of farina pancake thing.
@@ellengregory8002
The texture might not be right, so it may not be a thing. I love farina...
You would propably be making "polenta". Typically made with coarse ground corn, but any grain can be used.
Polenta
@@kimquinn7728
Polenta is corn based. Farina is of wheat...
Why can't the recipes associated with these videos be posted in the captions?
Julia mentioned having risotto made with cauliflower. I've had that, and it was cauliflower soup basically. Not bad in taste, but the texture (the main appeal in risotto) is not really pleasant
Agreed.
Fancy oatmeal
😊😊😊😊😊777@ LiKES LOL LUV FARRO!!!
Can I do this with brown rice or is it really different? Thank you
It's really, really different.
Mark Wladika thank you
I wish I had a knife that slices like the one used for the onion.
It looks like the Victorinox Fibrox chef knife they've recommended in the past, about $35-$40?
@@TwistedD85 bet the narrower blade makes horizontal cuts easier.
I just can't get into having it, or even trying it. My bad.
Not bad but limiting. Why limit yourself? There are enough things in life that try to oppress...give yourself a break and get brave. Try new foods. You will be proud of yourself.
Is this served as a main course or a side dish?
Add 3 tablespoons of milk 1 teaspoon of sugar, nuke it for 1 minute and eat it as farina.......breakfast
Personally I'd serve it as one course.
It can become a main course by what you add to it. At the very end you could stir through roasted veggies of choice, such as beocc, cauli, brussels sprouts, carrots, leeks mix em up. You could add shredded chicken, Pot roast, shrimp, mussels, scallops. Possibilities are endless. Wilted greens cooked down with olive oil, garlic, a touch of balsamic. Cheeeese.
