- This week we review The Good Dinosaur, directed by Peter Sohn. 2015 is the first year ever in which Pixar have released 2 movies. Is this good enough to beat Inside Out?

Probably my favorite thing that came from this film was the original teaser trailer. That first look at the film gave the idea that it was going to be a beautiful, life-changing simplistically epic film with little to no dialogue and experimental film direction... Or at least that's what I got from it.
Arlo's knees annoy me.
Goedzooi
I am annoyed by many things about this movie not just Arlo's knees.
"Tyrannosaurus wreck" - Mate, ya bloody minging ye. Nicely done.
6:40 I got 3 words for you: Best. Picture. Nomination!
Did the Lion King beat that? Huh?
Eh. 7:50 The middle Hyena is a female and the Leader, like in the real world. o.o
Alpha male Hyena dosen't exist in the Lion King.
"Doesn't make you cry like a bitch" LOL you got me on that!
I agree with you for most of the review, but think you overrated the film a little, and maybe it's because you like Pixar very much. I felt like this film is just soo empty. It's not like there's much to complain about but there's not much to love either...
I have another bit of criticism personally, that you didn't mention, and it's that the goal of the main character, to put his mark on the rock, isn't sufficient to engage us for the whole story. I remember watching the movie and saying to myself "so what, it's just a muddy mark on a wall". They should have at least given it some background, some symbolism. Like in the Lion King it was about becoming a leader.
Overall, I feel like this movie was all about showcasing their advances in technology, which are quite impressive, but don't make up for a weak plot. It's true the environments look absolutely real, but is it actually what we want from an animated film? I'm studying animated films so I should know, they're always telling us at school that if a director should want perfectly realistic imagery, than why bother waste a lot of energy on recreating it on a computer when a camera will do the trick for much less money? So actually even though I'm usually a fan of shear display of technological abilities in some contexts, that's not what I'm going for when I see a movie and I ended up being disappointed that this environment looked just real, and not more than that. I'm thinking of Inaritu who made me gawk at the landscapes in the revenant with almost no trickery and this film wasn't even able to do this with a computer.
Well, I've been going on spitting out my thoughts here as they came for a long time, I guess if someone read that to here then it must have been at least a little interesting. Tell me what you're thinking about what I said, I'd be happy to see if other people felt like me about the Good Dinosaure.
Fantastic analysis! This movie didn't interest me enough to see it in the theater, but I was still curious about how the movie played out. Thanks! Do more videos!
+William Carino Thanks man, I intend to. Next one will probably be the big one... Star Wars. Thanks for watching!

I like almost anything with dinosaurs but I really am not impressed with this film. I like Disney's Dinosaur I think that is better then Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.
Flim Rant
With Spot having the name of a dog and the personality of one. It would have been better if Pixar just added a dog instead of a human.
Hey mate I'm not if you do reaction video's but Independence Day Resurgence trailer has been released and it be great to hear opinion on that in video or something.
Don’t say that to Peter song, you’ll hurt his feeling
Why would live action disappear? Not everybody wants to watch a bunch of moving drawings all day.
Film Rant
I don't think Woodbush is funny he didn't make me laugh. He seemed crazy, weird, bizarre, strange and odd to me.
I know i'm late to the party but, did you think that the CG was to good and photo realistic when compared with the dinosaurs? I loved the film it was great fun and looked amazing. I have never seen water done so well in a Pixar film. but I think the dinosaurs just looked a little...I can't think of the word, maybe cartoonie? a little out of place. but other then that I really enjoyed the film, nothing like inside out but still great, awesome video keep them coming, thanks.
Yeah I get what you mean. I think that was just the art style. I think the dinosaurs are made to be cartoonish simply to make them appeal to children. If they rendered photo-realistic T-Rex's I think kids might not have viewed them as friendlies, at least not immediately.
+Film Rant Maybe if the environment was rendered a little more cartoonie it would been more in Place. But I get the point your trying to make with appeal to kids. maybe this movie was more about pushing the render engine to it's limits rather then creating something to compare with inside out. I don't really know for sure but was still a good film.

As a kid I grew up liking dinosaurs but this movie just doesn't catch my attention.
Flim Rant
I don't like how the T Rex look like they are riding a horses. I don't like how they are like cowboys or ranchers.
I subbed
ZeZaro 7 thanks man
Film Rant you're underrated
"A movie with a fairly stretched and sparse plot needs comedy to fill the gaps" I completely disagree. The Good Dinosaur didn't need cheesy jokes and dumb comedy to fill the running time. If it did, it would've clashed with the bittersweet tone that it's going for. And the plot wasn't stretched out at all. If you look at other films like The Secret of Nimh and Watership Down, those movies had fairly simple plots, but nothing ever feels like a waste of time in those movies; the same thing goes for The Good Dinosaur. The lack of humor and the simple writing are both of the things that made it so fascinating to watch. Call me an old man all you want, but I'd rather have kids watch a movie where they can get something out of it, than a movie that's pretty much the equivalent of dangling car keys in their face.
Another great review. That "eyes dripping like a fucked fridge" line was hilarious.
"Doesn't make you cry like a bitch."
HAH! I beg to differ... i cried the most out of all pixar films with this one.
This movie is silly.
I think maybe the reason the animation is so fucking beautiful is because this was the work they focused on inbetween directors.
+Walrus is in the Matrix Could well be. Some of the best animation work I've ever seen.

The photo of Donald Trump wasn't needed. But I guess you are the kind of person who likes to take jabs at a person you don't know.
How did you not cry? I actually cried more watching this movie than Inside Out. My mom fell asleep during the movie (she always falls asleep at the theatre) and woke up when Arlo fantasizes about his dad saving him. Without any emotional investment in the movie she cried when Arlo pushed Spot away. She also crued in the car as I told her about the scene with the sticks.
The emotional scenes were very deep. It kinda sucks that you didn't feel that way. There's nothing wrong with your opinion obviously. but as for the scene with the sticks, it's the one scene that humanizes Spot, it makes him seem more than just a dog. I believe that the scene is implimented more towards himanizing him that just giving him some backstory.
I personally thought that Spot just got lost from his parents and that he'd be returned at the end much like Arlo is. I started crying my eyes out when he "shows" that they're actually dead.
As for the "adoption" scene. What gave the the heart cramps and tears is the fact that Spot didn't understand why Arlo kept pushing him away. To him Arlo was his family now. He only comes to the realization of Arlos intentions thanks to the previous symbolism and accepts his new family, trusting that Arlo wants the best for him.
I personally felt that those scenes were deeper than how you described them. Maybe I'm just on the more "poetic" spectrum I guess, but that's the magic of opinion right? :)
Other than that I agree with most of what you said, and I enjoyed your video very much.
Nah Good Dinosaur was boring I couldn't get through it. It needed more fast paced gags.
icecream hero No it didn't. The Good Dinosaur was perfect the way it was. If it had the dumb, cheesy humor that dominates modern animated films nowadays, it wouldn't have been anywhere as awesome as it turned out.
@@gregglee438 it wasn't awesome at all, I don't get how anyone liked this movie
@@DJ5780 It seems like more people hate/dislike it more then they do like it, so I don't know what you're talking about.
@@gregglee438 good.
TheGood Dinosaur could've been a great movie... I wish Arlo actually did find his father alive, and his father would join in on the rest of the journey home and see how much Arlo had overcome his fears and saves Spot from the pterodactyls. Then Arlo's dad could've been the one to shield Spot from the last massive mudslide and ensure Spot's survival after that. Then both Arlo and his father could leave Spot with his new human family, and then return back to the farm. The dinosaur family reunites, Arlo makes his mark on the silo, everyone's happy, the end.

I feel like that it doesn't amaze me like other dinosaur movies.
came here from reddit. You should shorten the video a bit more and get to the point, it was kinda boring. Coming from someone with strong opinions about this film, it was a little dull.
+Lola Popente Fair comment. Most of my videos are a bit tighter than this one.
+Film Rant Well just for the sake of you having another opinion on that thought, I think you time your reviews very well and love the fact that you take your time to explain everything at the right moment. I'm sure people on RUclips are used to very short and fast paced videos and maybe that's what works the best for most people, if who you're targeting isn't the general public but rather some large community of passionates I think those are lucky to have you, who's able to produce a more elaborate and profound speech.
The other day I searched for a review about a specific movie (don't remember which) and the first video that came out was from a channel with a lot of subscribers, and the guys was going on so fast saying meaningless things that every damn person has already thought... Well that's when I was grateful I found your channel.
