Honestly, Kris having flashbacks of memories that aren't theirs is a cool concept to me. This is probably the player's memories that they're able to see and screws them up.

I have a different theory for the flashbacks. It comes from another theory I have about how Deltarune and Undertale are actually set in the same timeline:
-The key term here is "Reality manipulation".
Back on "Undertale", I always found four things odd:
-How Chara's expired existance seems to only get acknowledged after the last fallen human manages to miraculously make everyone see them as a different being Frisk, with no mention of their name through out the game;
-How Chara's body only appears in their coffin during True Pacifist;
-Sans, Papyrus and Gaster being different from the other monsters;
-The ruins are eerily similar the capitol of the kingdom in every possible way besides Toriel's house.
I don't think the Underground is just keeping the Monsters trapped in space. Somehow, time seems to also imprison them, leading me to wonder if the ruins aren't actually some sort of destroyed timeline that was set in stone as mere abandoned area of the Underground. And as the battle with Undyne on Genocide shows us, if literally everyone's Determination is focused on a common goal, then that goal is turned to a reality.
This perversion of time and space leads me to believe either you do Genocide and Chara rebuilds the world, later inserting themselves (which might explain why Kris looks like them), or you do Pacifist, but the overload of everyone's hopes and dreams being fulfilled rewrites reality to make everyone believe the war never happened.

I genuinely think Kris really cares for their friends outside of player control because when fighting king in chapter one Kris protected Susie on their own and when you do snowgrave it is implied Kris doesn't want to do it

I love that Undertale was a play on the meta that your character was in control; and Sans was the check against it and your actions. Deltarune is the opposite, where Kris, the character you control, is the check against YOU, and is actively rebelling. This perfectly highlights Kris' heart in direct conflict with ours.

It's not just a reference. All (i think) of these animations are their own separate videos. You can look up "Bad Apple Undertale" to see the full version. It's a 6 year old animation

Well, as promised here is the summary! Hope you like it :)
In this Anime, we take a look at Kris's first day back to school after a short lived weekend. They are a little late to class. After they take their seating, incomes Susie the class bully! Everyone fears Susie, even the teacher! Hmm. Seems that Alphys is missing some chalk, who took it? With no answer she asks Kris and Susie to check the supply closet for some. Kris then caught Susie eating chalk. Once they arrive at the Supply closet, they discover something...Peculiar. A whole new world! With new foes they must face together. They learn they have to seal a Dark Fountain which is located far into this new Dark world they must explore. Will they Act or Fight? What secrets will they uncover? And Will they be able to seal the Dark Fountain?
Yesssss haha! This puts me in the headspace to picture the anime even more! Speaking of which! Netflix is going to do something with Undertale 🤯

I imagine a Deltarune anime would probably have about 5 episodes per chapter.
Chapter One would go something like:
Episode One: From the start of the game to meeting Ralsei and the first Lancer Fight.
Episode Two: Post-Lancer fight, all the way to Susie joining Lancer's team.
Episode Three: Scarlet Forest, up to Lancer imprisoning the Deltawarriors.
Episode Four: Escaping the Prison and fighting Jevil.
Episode Five: Fighting the King and exploring Hometown
Chapter Two would go something like:
Episode One: From the start of Chapter Two, up to fighting Sweet Cap'n Cakes.
Episode Two: The rest of the Sweet Cap'n Cakes battle, up to fighting Spamton.
Episode Three: Travelling through the rest of the city to getting captured by Queen.
Episode Four: Escaping the prison, up to fighting Spamton Neo.
Episode Five: Fighting Queen and then more hometown.
With maybe a bonus/special episode showing the Snowgrave/Weird Route in its entirety.

My favorite part was where everything rewinded back to the start. I think it symbolizes that no matter what Kris (I think that's what the character's name was, correct me if I'm wrong.) does, Kris is destined to live the same story, over and over again. Again, an amazing song, I can see that you spend a lot of time on this. But please don't overwork yourself, take care of yourself Thai!

It's not that there is a connection back to Undertale, beyond the player's own memories. You are the red SOUL. You remember another place in a different time, even though these people, despite being so familiar, aren't who you knew.

And the () is a mystery till after chapter 7 in 54 years. Joking. It’s all interchangeable for any other character. Only part that isn’t Kris and is in normal is jevil’s part.

My mouth was to the floor the whole time. I love Delarune and anime so this was the best thing ever! I love the music, where you have the very hard rock bits that gradually slow back down and speed back up again throughout the whole song I love that! The Japanese lyrics was amazing, from the meaningful lyrics to the way it was sung was so beautiful! And the amazing animation on top of it really made it come together! This is truly a masterpiece! ❤❤❤
