John Schneider talking to you guys is so wholesome😭the joy on all your faces when you guys are talking to one another was perfect. Tom and John are extremely similar to their characters they play the Dad and Son role so perfectly.
My husband is a geologist and I was rewatching this episode and he had a meltdown over their geology class project. "Those rocks aren't even found on the same continent let alone in KANSAS!" And they were all polished and shit like they just came from a gem store. It was hilarious.
This episode was the first episode that explored Clark without his powers. A very classic trop that happens in comic book properties where the hero powers get transferred temporarily to another who doesn’t have the moral sense to use his powers for the good of humanity. Once again this show highlights how essential The Kent’s are to Clark’s development into what makes Superman such a beacon of hope and Purity. Jonathan imparts wisdom to his son that it’s not his powers that makes him special it’s him. I like how Lex sorted gets hoodwinked into believing he’s finally figured out Clark’s secret only to see first hand Clark is mortal and can bleed.
One of my all time favorite episodes. Also has one of my favorite comeback quotes from Lex after Victoria smacks Lex and says " We could have been great together" and Lex says " I plan on being great all by myself" Such a thing Lex Luthor would say.
What I loved about this episode is that it does a good job of highlighting the importance of Jonathan and Martha Kent's role in shaping who Clark Kent is. As you guy's said, it could've gone very differently in another household!
Dean Cain had a really great line in his series where he said, "Superman is what I can do...Clark is who I am". That line leads true here in this episode
@Cassandra Morrison when it comes to TV and Movies I respect the on screen product that was done at the time. I could care less what video you think CANCELLED him. Anyone can get Canceled nowadays.
To be fair, Dean was beloved as Superman, huge followship, millions of people watching, on a horrible time slot (Sundays). However, Cain carried that show. No one else could hold a candle. They got a terrible Lex Luthor and a gorgeous Lois, beyond that, he just couldn't bounce back properly with a great villain ala Glover and Rosey in Smallville. It was also much lighter. I don't know anyone who likes Superman, who doesn't appreciate or enjoy Dean, I know I do. Welling and Cain are easily top 5 Superman.
I don’t know why but seeing Tom calling John dad brought tears to my eyes! This podcast is so cool and things like that make it even more special! Thanks for that! Loads of love from Brazil ❤🇧🇷
This is pretty much my favourite episode from season 1. Such a great concept for an episode and I think Tom really sold it, from the initial confusion and frustration, to the relief and joy of being normal, to the internal strength and sense of responsibility. I really liked when Clark asked his parents if they still saw him the same without his powers, it felt very real and kind of highlighted their relationship. I loved how John just stared at Clark for a moment, like he couldn't believe he'd even consider that. I also liked that it had an impact on his relationship with Lex, he drops his suspicions and lets him off the hook... for now, anyway lol. I love this podcast! Thanks guys ✨ 🌹🌹🌹
@@danzwku I mean, he definitely had a gut feeling that Aaron played Jimmy, but really didn’t push back when told he was wrong. I mean, yeah, it was over a decade ago, but still 😂
I wrote this on another post but they are so much a like. If you ever watch a show called the rookie, Shawn is on there as a lawyer but he acts just like Jimmy Olsen. Hes a kind person with a underdog can do attitude. Btw I know Aaron played Jimmy but that's my point. If you just watch the show, you couldn't tell which one it is.
What was great about this episode was how they showed ashmore doing all the things with powers that we kind of always wanted to see Clark do, like beat up his bullies haha! It shows just how impressive it is that Clark is as well adjusted as he is. Plus the EPIC “I’m the bone cracker! I’m the bone cracker” song 😂😂
Loving this episode so far. I love the father and son relationship that Jonathan and Clark have. It is creepy that Lionel slept with Victoria. I enjoyed hearing Michael’s British accent. Y’all made my morning.
At least 2 roses for sure, maybe even 2.5 🌹🌹 This is probably my favorite episode since the Pilot, and one I routinely will rewatch with excitement every time.
It's so crazy to me that ya'll want to do the sign off as "Always hold on to Smallville" because that is a quote that holds so much meaning and I never hear anyone saying it or referencing it. My brother and I watched the entire show together, and we really bonded over the show. We actually really like that quote, and we both got sibling tattoos and got that quote on our arms. So it's cool that you guys are referencing it.❤️
i love how much they respect and enjoy each others company. you can definitely see how the chemistry added on to make smallville so great. love this podcast so glad i finally checked out smallville this year and now we’ve got this podcast too!
There’s an episode in season 9 or 10 I think that has an alternate universe where Clark was raised by Lionel! He is a jerk to say the least lol. It was an amazing testament to how big part the Kents were to Clark being who he became. I loved John as a guest. I can’t wait to see him back! I give this one two 🌹 I love the episodes where Clark is normal or he isn’t his usual self. I enjoy Tom’s nuanced performance choices in those episodes, like how Lana says he seems different and he doesn’t have the weight of the world on his shoulders, you could see it! Tom was great there. The 00s soundtrack was amazing this episode, so many trips down memory lane.
Eating this up with a spoon. This is an iconic episode with John. Something about this whole podcast feels like history in the making. To come back and relive one of the best decades of my life is such a treat. All of your impressions and backstories are really enriching the original episodes. Keep it up!
Gotta say this. John Schneider and John are both father figures for these two in real life. That's the sense I get. Secondly, just seeing how excited they get talking about Smallville and reminiscing about all the episodes up until now, would love to see something in the works of a possible continuation of Smallville in the near future. Or at least some sort of a TV movie type deal. That would be awesome to see. Love what is happening here. Just so many memories.
You know you have something amazing going when its recorded for just over an hour but when watching feels way less. I could just sit here and listen and soak up all the nostalgia you guys ooze out for hours, and you can tell that when all together you guys could just go on for days.. it's truly refreshing and beautiful to see. Thanks Rosey yet again for another great Wednesday podcast.
I loved this episode because it showed the strength that the Kents have especially Clark's parents because despite he lost his power they showed a lot of support when we saw Clark being frustrated of losing them.
John Schneider is so great. I'm older so I still remember him in Dukes of Hazard, I was just old enough to be around when it first came out and it's one of those shows that sticks with you.
This podcast just keeps getting better & better! Thanks so much for getting John Schneider to come on. He is a rarity in Hollywood, a man of true grit and character. Any actor would be blessed to have him as a mentor.
My favorite part of the episode is when Eric asks Clark what he would do if he had the power to do anything and Clark says “I’d stop people like you” 😭That’s Superman! I also got unexpected goosebumps throughout the John Schneider interview.
John Schneider is just a national treasure! Love the podcast and please bring John Kent back!!! BTW, love the insight into technical aspects behind "one shots" and how difficult/rewarding they are from an actor's perspective!
Yes! You got Schneider! Thank you! Been hoping you'd get him on. Dude was such a huge part of my childhood (Dukes) and early adulthood years with Smallville. Such a great dude.
Man Smallville built the cw. It perfected the formula the cw went with for decades after. This podcast has inspired me to rewatch each episode and then listen after. Thanks!!!
What a treat to see John Scheider, I'm late to the podcast here but I'm getting through them as quickly as I can...keep them coming.... absolutely loving it..😊
As a 33yo father of two autistic children myself. Hearing about John's son warms my heart so much. I've got so much respect for him if he's even a tenth of the father he portrayed himself to be. I watched the series all the way thru right before my 1st was born and wished I could be like that for my kids. Love the podcast, started late but moving along. Much love from Michigan
I loved seeing you guys and John talking. Knowing how Tom has talked about how much John was a mentor to him, and how much time you spent together on the show, it's so clear how fond you all are of each other. It's wonderful
25:42. This is without a doubt my favorite moment of all the episodes. Ripping on that poor dude’s accent hilarious. I come back every couple months for a loff guv’na. 😂
Absolutely loved seeing John. I was grinning from ear to ear the entire time. What a gentleman. What a caring, strong and kind person. Bring that man back as many times as you can handle.
I loved John Schneider in Dr Quinn and he actually surprised me when he mentions his time on that series and Michaela because I have almost everything he is in and every episode even in Dr Quinn Medicine Woman, he always has Daniel Simon doing something. Im glad he stuck with 'Dr Quinning it'. Reminds me so much of my favorite uncle ... you rock John ... love from this Kiwi xx
This was the best episode so far! To see how your faces light up with John joins the conversation and to see all of the stories you have makes this podcast so enjoyable. It is so fun to see you guys reminisce and enjoy a show that has given so many of us something to watch for so many years. I cannot wait to see who else you can get to guest star.
JS was perfect casting. Even in real life he has an air of someone that's made mistakes and learnt from them and can offer fatherly advice. I was smiling through that whole interview, such a lovely man. And WHY DOESN'T HE AGE??
John Schneider is gold. His acting in Smallville is so authentic and indeed his presence is demanding. The Luther's together with their witty lines are also so good.
This is such a great episode! I love the dynamic between Clark and his father. It was always such a highlight of the show. It was so lovely having John Schneider on this episode. He's the best Jonathan Kent I've seen. He embodied the fatherly love so well and his scenes with Clark were some of my favourites in the whole show. Always so touching. It was so cute when Tom was like "hi dad!" Haha. It's clear you guys all get along really well. Can't wait to see him back again.
This really was a good episode. You had Clark without powers, being conflicted between relief and not being able to shake his sense of responsibility. You had a cunning Lex moment when he was able to hand the Hardwick's their asses. You had that compelling story of what if someone with Clark's powers wasn't raised by people as noble as the Kent's. The performances all around were great too, glad you guys used that clip of the initial shock and fear Clark went through when he realized his powers were gone. Welling rocked that moment.
This was incredible. Every moment that John Schneider spoke, I felt the need to be 100% attentive and I enjoyed everything he said. Thanks for having him on!
Awesome podcast episode. I always loved John Schneider and especially his portrayal of Clark's dad. This was the first episode where Clark's powers were transferred to someone else, and each of those episodes are fantastic!
Omg John Schneider is such a great person. The three of you together here is magic. Can’t wait to see more of this! One of my fave episodes is the one with Tom Wopat….the writing on that is so clever with so many one liners eluding to things from Dukes. Love it! And can’t wait til you guys get to that episode!
Ok this might be my fave episode (besides the pilot) because we finally get a “what if” clark was normal (for a majority of the episode) but at a cost. Those same powers that Clark has always been reluctant to have and made him feel alienated- have corrupted the other boy who happened to pick them up. It really shows it’s how you use the powers rather then having powers itself that shows how a hero and who isn’t. And shoutout to Clark parents who are the true reason Clark despite having powers could grow up normal and still love him even if he lost them forever (unlike certain parents on the show cough cough)
John Schneider and Annette O'Toole are the backbone of this show. Such great actors. Thanks for getting him on the show. Overall I've always loved this episode. I shows that Clark is more than just his powers and proves that anyone can turn something like having superpowers from a gift to a curse from Eric's perspective. There's all this talk about how superman has a hard time staying Relevant, this episode even 20years later proves differently.
I don't know how anyone could say that Superman can't be relevant to this day because after I saw this episode, just 3 weeks ago lol, I saw a concept that I don't think I've seen in any movie or series, let alone a superhero show. The character has strengths AND weakness that can be exploited by anyone who could have a chance to obtain them. Here, I think what's most fascinating about it is that someone got to experience Clark's incredible powers, and we can witness the terrifying factor to someone who isn't Clark. What's amazing is that after Clark was powerless, he eventually realized that No powers=no kryptonite effect. When he needed to stop Eric, he knew that that is exactly what he needed to use: his weakness. I thought that was very profound as no superhero I've watched has taken a concept like this.
@@RitsychServare I thought that even though clark was powerless, at one point he says " even though my powers are gone I still think of them as my responsibility" he could've chosen to except that and move on and be normal. But he's taking responsibility and I thought that highlights who Clark was and how he was raised.
Didn’t know about this pod literally just rewatched the series again lol absolutely one of the better parts of my childhood/highschools. Great pod guys
To you guys this might just be a fun kind of thing that y’all can do together, but for some us this is truly therapy with a bit of nostalgia so y’all are doing more than you know by doing this podcast. Y’all are my childhood heroes so thanks so much
Love seeing John Schneider with you guys talking about mentoring Tom!! The behind the scenes chemistry shows on screen & gives the Jonathan & Clark relationship authenticity!!
Sadly I disagree with Tom, I would have given this episode 2 roses because what defines Clark is not his powers but his character. This episode proved why Clark is deserving of these powers, most people aren't as humble as he is. With Great-Power comes great responsibility.

Oh man John Schneider is a treasure. So glad to see him on this podcast. I love the genuine bond you can see and feel between him and Tom. Makes me so nostalgic and happy lol
I know!
I love how when John comes on, Tom just takes over the show. You can really tell how much he likes him.
This was great, guys!
Good note bud
It was great seeing Tom light up talking to John. You can tell they really care about each other.
"Lex, I used to have powers until today!" That made me laugh out loud! :)
Absolutely 🙌
Dean Cain had a really great line in his series where he said, "Superman is what I can do...Clark is who I am". That line leads true here in this episode
Exactly! And people can say what they want about Dean but that show was pretty great in my eyes.
Ever watch Superman VS The Mole Men? If you ever do you will learn why Mr. Cain's years in the cape have been CANCELLED.
@vandalg282 Exactly💯. Dean Cain was a Wonderful Superman.
Wow this gave me chills John is the dad of smallville the rhythm of this podcast is amazing thanks guys 🌹🌹
Solid score
Thanks guys ✨ 🌹🌹🌹
seeing lots of love for Leech
Oh man. Schneider brings so much charisma and wisdom to both the podcast and the show. Smallville was blessed with the perfect Pa Kent.
Favourite time of the week amazing to see Jon Kent on the podcast
Such a great time with John
"Hey Dad" absolutely awesome!! Love to listen to John. This is fab!
Ryan’s info is usually spot on. Shawn was Eric in this episode, yes, but Aaron played Jimmy Olsen in later seasons. Love you guys!
❤️❤️❤️
@@TalkVillePodcast it's actually kind of funny to think that Tom acted with both Shawn and Aaron and didn't realize they were two different people xD
@@Reeseclan I wonder how often they cover for each other for acting gigs or appearances or just random appointments and meetings.
Amazing how fatherly John was to Tom even off camera. Awesome!
Lol.
I can listen to John talk about the industry and giving advise all day.
Loving this episode so far. I love the father and son relationship that Jonathan and Clark have. It is creepy that Lionel slept with Victoria. I enjoyed hearing Michael’s British accent. Y’all made my morning.
Super creepy haha
At least 2 roses for sure, maybe even 2.5 🌹🌹
This is probably my favorite episode since the Pilot, and one I routinely will rewatch with excitement every time.
Best episode of, "Talk Ville" yet...shiz got real...
Considering Michael's language, shouldn't that be "Talk Vile"??
It's so crazy to me that ya'll want to do the sign off as "Always hold on to Smallville" because that is a quote that holds so much meaning and I never hear anyone saying it or referencing it. My brother and I watched the entire show together, and we really bonded over the show. We actually really like that quote, and we both got sibling tattoos and got that quote on our arms. So it's cool that you guys are referencing it.❤️
Loved this smallville episode. This, jitters, and hug were three stand outs for me in season one (besides the pilot). Fun podcast today
Thanks buddy ❤️
i love how much they respect and enjoy each others company. you can definitely see how the chemistry added on to make smallville so great. love this podcast so glad i finally checked out smallville this year and now we’ve got this podcast too!
Yep that’s a great one
there was a few episodes about that alternate universe titled "Kent" and "Luthor"
@Thomas B agreed! Can’t wait till they get to those episodes.
Needs to be 2 hours at least.
Schneider was so good. Definitely need him back
They need to bring the two Johns, Schneider and Glover, in on an episode. The two dads.
Man Smallville built the cw. It perfected the formula the cw went with for decades after. This podcast has inspired me to rewatch each episode and then listen after. Thanks!!!
Buffy and Charmed built the WB. Smallville built upon it.
@@killerbee2562damn I hate ur right lol
What a treat to see John Scheider, I'm late to the podcast here but I'm getting through them as quickly as I can...keep them coming.... absolutely loving it..😊
This was an awesome podcast. John Schneider's memory of lines from an episode he didnt rewatch is incredible. Such a great guy too.
Thanks for episode # 12 ... Featuring Mr. John Schneider! 👌👌👍👍🥂🥂🍻🍻
Am I the only one who cried seeing Jonathan Kent again? The best dad to ever be on tv.
Love it when there are guests! Watching John interact with you guys was so much fun.
I loved this episode. Thank you for having him on. This was really special.
Wow I don't remember seeing him in!
Funny fact that Jane Seymour was later in the show!
Love that Tom has 5 copies of season 6 and 2 copies of season 4 behind him on the shelf!
John Schneider is the best guest you guys have had on; what a treasure trove of knowledge about being a professional in the business! Terrific stuff.
Obsessed with John and all of your friendship!! Such a wholesome episode!
My favorite episode so far. I can't wait for more Schneider!
Really fun! Looking forward to John coming back
Us too ❤️
I don’t usually leave comments, but seeing Schneider on here was truly awesome! Feels like America’s dad. Thank you for bringing him on!
On Clark having DNA: In various continuities Clark and Lois are able to have one or more kids, so it would have to be something very near human DNA.
I've really liked watching Talkville and this episode of having John Schneider back was great and reminded me of how much I love "Pa Kent" so much!
Johns commentary was fantastic! Such a great guest
This is for Tom. I noticed the high respect you have for John Scheider. It's good to see that.
Listened to it already on Spotify but watching it too because it’s so good!!
You are amazing!!
I love this! All 10 seasons! Let's go!
Hands down best episode of the podcast so far! John Schneider needs to be a guest more often he’s fantastic!
