Yes Ben, I understand perfectly what you are talking about, because I am in the same situation as you. RUclips has long ceased to be a place where you want to be. There are now more irritable moments than positive ones. But honestly, I'm running out of options and nowhere else to go with my content. Making videos for RUclips is my job and that's what I do for a living. This money is not much, but still enough. Its a complete waste of money! ...Not really the point though mate - if YT are scraping that low, its not a good sign, I mean that idea really doesn't work. I've tried it before it became a thing and was an absolute waste of time and money!
Ben i couldn't agree more im in the exact same boat. Ill leave it there because ive just deleted what I want to say twice now because ill just sound bitter. Hope things turn around for guys like us mate. Your work both in video and craftsmanship is something I really do admire. One of the best out there in my opinion and you should have hundreds of thousands of subs.
What you have said is interesting, what I have noticed with RUclips this year Is that they are going into my subscription listing and removing some channels that I am subscribed to and replacing them with ones that I have no interest in. At first i thought it was just me but This has also happened to my partner today. She went into her RUclips subscription list to find out she was subscribed to some Jem channels which she has no interest in. They are definitely at it.
I’m not sure they care mate, they’re failing they know it and with the big push from them for us to push short form content kills it even more, what advertisers would pay to place ads on a platform that the user can just swipe the ad out of sight. Short form content isn’t the future, if allowed to continue it’s the death of so much too 😖
I think they want this dude, I think they only want the corporate creators the ones with loads of staff on the payroll like daily wire or mr beasteality all the peeps I’m not interested in watching 😂

It doesn’t add up though, you must of noticed the huge increase of ads placed, even my mum was complaining about it saying “RUclips is unbearable now” but then why such a huge drop in our income..? I don’t trust RUclips as far as I can throw them, I mean they screwed over many advertisers for years, I bet they’re screwing us over. 🧐
There are other platforms which some RUclipsrs have tried I image you have looked into these but with no confidence in them. Why every company has started trying to get blood out of a stone is a sign of something grim surely. Yeah Rumble, I’m there too, takes ages to load my vids so bloody slow. To be honest I don’t have confidence in either RUclips or rumble. There both shit. RUclips stop creativity with their agenda, rumble are such a bore with 99% political crap 😞
You have one of the most innovative woodworking channels on youtube my friend, Don’t worry about what’s going on just do what you do, you are doing fantastic work. “If you build it they will come” trust me.
I believe nearly 3,000 videos are uploaded to RUclips every minute which is mind boggling. I think I started on RUclips in 2014 and it was definitely an easier space to get traction in. RUclips has made devastating decisions in the past, like demonetising certain genres of channels over night (I went from a few hundred a month to nothing over night), also changing their rules and deleting channels for breaking the rules with old historical content! The platform is nuts and very dangerous to count on for income. It’s really hard to figure out income streams, and full time content creation really means you have to explore as many avenues as possible. My current channel is not paying the rent obviously, far from it, and I’m always on the look out for things I can do to make a few quid here and there. Have you thought about going hard into creating stock footage? Even stuff around your home town/city can be useful. Fingers crossed for you buddy

There sure is a lot to think about here - really a snapshot of what's going on in the world at large. As a viewer I have noticed that since about the beginning of the year, or about when they started pushing subscriptions, the number of ad's per video has drastically increased - to the point where I am quite selective on what channels I subscribe to because the content doesn't balance with the number of ad's. (Definitely staying subscribed to Hew & Awe!). Google as a search engine has gone down the same track leading many to start using other search engines. I'm sure that many other viewers are feeling the same way as the corporate shills that have taken over the board rooms are working out new ways to monetize what was once a great and innovative platform to increase quarterly profits and maximize their bonuses. So many things to have a rant about here... For what it's worth, Thank you for the content you post! The wood working is great and the editing really makes it stand out from all the weekly posts from all the under educated, over caffeinated millennials out there.

That’s YT for you, I’m having to search for people I’m subscribed to, it’s a mess. I’ll be recommended 50 vids by the home page shows me 10 subs and a bottom to click to view more. A new platform is needed this is dead here, many creators have slowed down the amount they upload to I’ve noticed. 🤷🏻♂️

Hey man I really feel your pain, or at least i'm trying to. To have a passion to make stuff and create bloody brilliant content should be rewarded. I know how to make, and have made some really cool stuff over the years but have always been crap at selling/promoting, whilst there's a bunch of assholes out there making a killing doing nothing creative or useful whatsoever. I hope you find a way to carry on doing what you love.. and paying the bills, as it were. I'm just sitting here waiting for my hand to heal after my table saw accident, and re-evaluating how i'm going to make things work. Thanks for the vids so far.. I also had a huge cast that went completely round the back of my arm and hand, there was no way I could do anything with that arm 😞

Can't afford to be a patreon of maybe 20 fantastic favourite creators I love, of which you are one.
I used to teach amateur and starting out professional photographers how to do the job. The courses were one to one or small groups. I wonder wether this model would work for you. For example on one to one (most popular) was charged at £250 per half day. Now half a day creating with you would be very worth it. I hope RUclips go back to their roots.
Would be very disappointing to see you back away, but understand what you are up against. It’s all about money and YT’s market research has shown they are the primary game in town for long version videos, so a captured audience so to speak for the content creators and consumers. As you mention, if it wasn’t for the content creators, there wouldn’t be a YT. Nice to see YT dumping on their revenue generators🙄. I agree with you as well that shorts are not the way to go as people wants to understand the details of builds. Your content is excellent and one of the reasons I keep using YT. In the end, do whats best for you and your family.
Only found your channel fairly recently but you definitely make good, solid videos. I'm shocked to hear what they're doing, it seems like a lot of the makers have wound back the number of videos they put out, or have turned to doing loads of shorts, probably all as a result of their greed. Interesting video Ben. A lot of the smaller excellent wood working channels, like yours & BischBaschBosch, that I used to see regularly are no longer showing up in my feeds at all so I never see them unless I remember to go and check in with them directly. Even in my subscriptions list, they get buried. Makes sense that this started when RUclips introduced pay to promote at the start of the year. I hope they come to their senses before all the good makers are gone. In the meantime, hang in there as long as you can! And a big thank you for all the great content to date.

It does beggars belief that an organisation which relies on creators producing and contributing to a platform for free wants those contributors to pay them as well under the guise of a fairly bogus benefit to the creator. Wo dreamt up that business model. It really is taking the p@#s. Ok I get that RUclips pays its bills by attracting advertisement but its just greed or desperation on RUclips’s part. I admire your honesty and hope you continue from a personal selfish standpoint because your videos are some of my favourites on here (including the choice in music btw), but understand the predicament you’re in with how YT has gone and have to do what’s right for you. It’s a such a shame YT has put creators like yourself in the predicament after the content you and many others make is what make this place so good in the first place. I don't have the Promotion tab yet but I did pay to promote my workbench video (and associated plans) for a number of months via google ads, which was tricky to figure out, so I guess they are trying to make it more integrated into YT itself. It took a little while to figure out the settings, restrict the audience, and get it onto the right eyeballs but eventually after about a month I think I was hitting 'the best' audience I could hope for, English speaking woodworking folks searching for small workshop workbenchs. I spent about $30 (20 quid) a month, and it was about 3 or 4 cents per view, so what about 750-1000 views. From that spend, I maybe converted 30 subs a month... and of those very few went on to watch other content and actually earn me a few cents and I might have sold 1 or 2 sets of plans... impossible to tell if the sales came from paid promotion or just regular etsy traffic. So in all, unless you video is an actual advert for something you are selling and stand to make profit off, there is zero benefit to anyone paying for a video to be promoted except vanity. Pointless money-grab from YT.
Yeah I did the same yonks ago, waste of time! Works on Facebook though, but I’m not doing that I don’t make enough from them to invest a penny of it back into my account.

That feels like me paying my boss to have to use my laptop - that I'm using to work for him! ...and what's a view? 30 seconds. You don't even know if they're really watching. I feel for you, it feels like an attainable dream to turn your passion into an income stream. Selling the furniture thing seems to be a common theme I see - even the bigger guys like John Malecki struggle to sell without dropping the prices to piss take levels.

I think they’re deceitful in their analytics and are using that to hold us back… I mean you’d think uploading 4 vids would up your income, nope it’s goes down! The huge hike in silly amounts of ads since Christmas would mean more income, nope it’s down, I could go on and on…
As others have said, I hope you find a way through this Ben. It would be great if this was the catalyst for a group of makers to come together and launch a new platform where the focus is on the needs of the makers and the viewers, rather than on the needs of big tech, greed and profit. Maybe there’s a parallel with the independent record labels of the 1980’s compared to the major record labels?

New subscriber. My premium premiums recently went up. Patreon got too expensive for me (couldn't support every creator I watch). Loved your tablesaw restoration--I did the same for mine. For what it’s worth, I consume a huge amount of RUclips woodworking, I love it but there are few channels I get excited about when I receive the notification of a new video. Your channel is definitely one, the content and quality of the editing is top notch and never fail to educate and entertain me. Thank you mate for the effort you put in!
Rumble is on a slow roll. Maybe one day it will be an alternative platform for woodworking videos. Not much there now and I am not sure about the monetary side. But they will not remove videos for content they do not like unless it is illegal of course. Good luck! You are very entertaining.
The issue at rumble it it’s a twitter remake, lots of political bore the fuck off content, if they don’t change that soon it’ll die off. I have a feeling the WEF trojan horse elon will but rumble at some point to make his number one financial platform he dreams about. I’m thinking of moving to Russia where it’s a bit more sane.

No matter what I do. I cannot get to 600. As a woodworking channel, materials have gone through the roof, they will not push my videos & I definitely cannot afford to pay them.
Mate I had to go old school to do this, fucking RUclips won’t take me to your page from here suck a pain! Anyway straight off the bat I can see a huge issue, your thumbnails especially the text, I can’t read 99% of them is a white font with a black shadow or the other way round, yellow is also good it’s the most clicked on colour. The actual pics themselves are way to busy to have a clue what they’re about! You being in the thumbnail is good but not needed in everyone. Use as few words as possible too. I could only find one good thumbnail dude workshop organisation and that could do with a boost in brightness! Go back and redo them! You’ve loads of vids should be doing better than this for that many vids dude!

For what it's worth Ben - I love your work & style of presentation, I only watch RUclips but sell on eBay & that's a platform that's dying on its ass...... listings that should be attracting 100+ views a day might do 30 a week now......I'm fast coming to the opinion that "big teck" can go (insert goat hear) itself.......
I didnt realise this was happening. Completing the loop - in someone who watches videos and learns from people like you. This is going to kill that off too. Well just end up with the biggest channels which will kill the variety and ideas. Ive noticed the search engine doesn't seem to find things as well as it used to either. Everything goes in this direction gradually over time once the accountants and greedy money men start to get their way.
To add to that’s RUclips are showing you irrelevant content you don’t want to watch nor have any idea to watch, the suggestion page is a train smash it’s become a bore RUclips for the consumer and in turn killing it off for the creators, it’s been 8 months now and still the same I can only think this is on purpose otherwise they would of fixed it 😖

The algorithm is made by them in their favour, we all know since Christmas YT vids have an obscene amount of ads in their vids, which you would think more income for us, nope income nosedived, why is it I upload vids and my income drops, 5 vids ago was making say 50 quid a week then 5 new vids you would think I’d be making more money right? Nope it has dropped. Something fishy going on imo.

Advertising will only win if you have a very large channel following to start with. I've experienced the same, long ago in the real world of commercial furniture manufacturing. Life's too short. Too much greed, it's all take take take these days. You should have been a novice, learning Ben. Then you'd be winning taking it all in for free, so far anyway. I think RUclips should be paying creator's to load quality videos. If the creator's stop loading the RUclips won't have a y videos to show. They are dependent on the creator's and should be helping them make more and better video to boost their own platform.
Exactly!!! There’s such crap uploaded, I don’t see RUclips trying to help them make better vids, I’ve lost count of how many times the volume of said vids take my head off! I spoke you RUclips with the above and their answer was “just post often and as much as you can “ ie quality doesn’t matter - is why the platform is such a cesspit of vids with little value 😏
They do not watch the videos (as far as I am aware) unless there is a complaint. I believe it is all done with computers, so the only way they have to tell if it is any good is by the views. Comments show that the viewer is most likely watching, so the adds are likely to be watched. Not sure if the the computers can tell from the comments yet if the video is any good. I doubt it consistently; too much slang and jargon.
It is really not much better for the viewers. In the middle of watching something important and YT cuts it off with 2 ads. Both disrespectful to the maker and the viewer. I'm just waiting for a better platform to appear and I am out of here. I've had a gut full of this crap. In the meantime, head up everyone. Cheers John
It’s would be so much a better world if advertising was gone completely, they have to much power and using that power for no good. Trouble is, what’s the answer? Subscription doesn’t work, we can’t afford to subscribe to everyone and everything.. rumble seemed an idea but with 50+ vids uploaded there I’ve made just over $1. Not only that it’s difficult to be creative with one hand tied behind my back keeping inside of the YT rule book. 😞
I just watched a couple of vids on RUclips about Vimeo and most are saying the same thing there about Vimeo that I’ve said about RUclips it’s all focused on the big corporate channels 🤦🏻♂️

I follow channels that have bigger followers and are doing nothing like the detail u put into your videos never mind are anywhere close to the stunning peices u build. Have u thought about tiktok a don't no much about running yt channel but a here tiktok is also something you can make money at. A no thats not always the point. Theyre to blame for a lot of what’s wrong with a generation too. I’m uploading all my vids to Rumble seeing where that goes but that’s taking ages to do two days so far 🤦🏻♂️

Personally, I don't see any issue with your vid, we your audience don't know what the company (YT) does behind the scenes so I think it was a very pertinent narrative. I can't see how they can pull what you said off and police it, what do they do with the channels who get millions of views. I do not watch TV (apart from F1) I only watch YT so I have some idea about the platform albeit very limited. I am subscribed to 157 channels, mostly woodwork and a few car channels, I pay to only 1 and that is you. From what I see (please this is my opinion only) There are 2 types of creator. The first is very common regardless of what content they create, and they are the game players, they fuck about with titles to grab an audience, they clickbait to the point they become so predictable it is boring (because of this I unsubd from every click baiter I was subd to (such as Voyager & Future Space plus many others) The second, and these are much rarer, are the straightforward, straight talking, no bullshit, honest, caring and genuinely talented creators. Unfortunately the YT process with it's algorithm's doesn't care about ppl like that and that is a shame. YT will kill itself if it persists to challenge and test the creators like you and they will find themselves like Blockbuster, they will lose their sincere audience and become out of touch and obsolete. Mate, I wish I had the answers because there aren't a lot of Ben's out there and the only one that is I hope he rides this bullshit out and keeps on doing his thing. All the best fella.@@HewAndAwe
Only the other day i was thinking why a talented craftsman has only 17 grand plus subscribers opposed to some garish yank who has double and only started a few months back. I put it down to you aint wearing any bullshit and not bowing to tool companys cause you wont chat spiel. Once again, all about the money. You look like your at your wits end & ready to throw the towel in. Im hoping you wonta, dont let the b...... S grind you down but thats easy for me to say. Words dont pay bills. It would be a shame considering you are like a breath of fresh air with your unique style. A great craftsman who calls a spade a spade, dont kiss ass and a font of knowledge. Long may it continue. Hi Brent, RUclips tells us we get a small cut but no not really. What would help is if youtube returned the reach we had before they lowered it so we would pay for that reach and brought in the BS to make us creators pay.
With premium, it's divided up by not only how much you watch, but how much you watch a channels content. Fractions of a pence all said and done, so no. No more help to the creator than an ad. It's mainly for the viewer (you) watching content ad-free.
Really sorry to see how stressed this is making you. I think what you do is brilliant and if you can keep going then please do so. I my line of work as a chartered building surveyor I run my own business and it seems everything is costing more every month and there's always someone with their hand out be it VAT, insurance or corporate membership fees. I fully understand the stress this will be causing you Ben. If you find a good alternative to YT let us know so we can support you and any other creators that join in.

It’s not something I haven’t considered, I know I could give Sam Smith a run for his money! On a serious note yeah I agree, they’ve culled people to fit a narrative that’s as boring as a uk summer, I find it hard to find anything worth watching for the last 7 months it’s all so clinical and dull, no personality in the vids cause they’re to scared to. It’s joke, my vids are set to “not made for children” but yet if a say a naughty word advertisers don’t want their ad on my vids. Advertising needs to die is the short answer. There needs to be a better way, a way that lets creative people be creative and for everyone to be able to enjoy that.

I found you from a mention by and a link from rag-n-bone in your midst have review so taking that one step further, maybe you and a few other like minded channels start referring to each other to share subscribers? sorry if that's obvious, just hate to see a solid content creator struggling

What you have said is interesting, what I have noticed with RUclips this year Is that they are going into my subscription listing and removing some channels that I am subscribed to and replacing them with ones that I have no interest in. At first i thought it was just me but This has also happened to my partner today. She went into her RUclips subscription list to find out she was subscribed to some Jem channels which she has no interest in. They are definitely at it.

I’m not sure they care mate, they’re failing they know it and with the big push from them for us to push short form content kills it even more, what advertisers would pay to place ads on a platform that the user can just swipe the ad out of sight. It doesn’t add up though, you must of noticed the huge increase of ads placed, even my mum was complaining about it saying “RUclips is unbearable now” but then why such a huge drop in our income..? There are other platforms which some RUclipsrs have tried I image you have looked into these but with no confidence in them. Why every company has started trying to get blood out of a stone is a sign of something grim surely. I believe nearly 3,000 videos are uploaded to RUclips every minute which is mind boggling. I think I started on RUclips in 2014 and it was definitely an easier space to get traction in.
RUclips has made devastating decisions in the past, like demonetising certain genres of channels over night (I went from a few hundred a month to nothing over night), also changing their rules and deleting channels for breaking the rules with old historical content! The platform is nuts and very dangerous to count on for income.
It’s really hard to figure out income streams, and full time content creation really means you have to explore as many avenues as possible.
My current channel is not paying the rent obviously, far from it, and I’m always on the look out for things I can do to make a few quid here and there.
Have you thought about going hard into creating stock footage? Even stuff around your home town/city can be useful.

There sure is a lot to think about here - really a snapshot of what's going on in the world at large. As a viewer I have noticed that since about the beginning of the year, or about when they started pushing subscriptions, the number of ad's per video has drastically increased - to the point where I am quite selective on what channels I subscribe to because the content doesn't balance with the number of ad's. (Definitely staying subscribed to Hew & Awe!). Google as a search engine has gone down the same track leading many to start using other search engines. I'm sure that many other viewers are feeling the same way as the corporate shills that have taken over the board rooms are working out new ways to monetize what was once a great and innovative platform to increase quarterly profits and maximize their bonuses. So many things to have a rant about here...
For what it's worth, Thank you for the content you post! The wood working is great and the editing really makes it stand out from all the weekly posts from all the under educated, over caffeinated millennials out there.

That’s YT for you, I’m having to search for people I’m subscribed to, it’s a mess. I’ll be recommended 50 vids by the home page shows me 10 subs and a bottom to click to view more. A new platform is needed this is dead here, many creators have slowed down the amount they upload to I’ve noticed. 🤷🏻♂️

Hey man I really feel your pain, or at least i'm trying to. To have a passion to make stuff and create bloody brilliant content should be rewarded. I know how to make, and have made some really cool stuff over the years but have always been crap at selling/promoting, whilst there's a bunch of assholes out there making a killing doing nothing creative or useful whatsoever. I hope you find a way to carry on doing what you love.. and paying the bills, as it were. I'm just sitting here waiting for my hand to heal after my table saw accident, and re-evaluating how i'm going to make things work. Thanks for the vids so far.. I also had a huge cast that went completely round the back of my arm and hand, there was no way I could do anything with that arm 😞

I used to teach amateur and starting out professional photographers how to do the job. The courses were one to one or small groups. I wonder wether this model would work for you. For example on one to one (most popular) was charged at £250 per half day. Now half a day creating with you would be very worth it. I hope RUclips go back to their roots.
I’ve wondered that to, money is just to tight to mention for the majority at the mo, I’m also in the middle of nowhere.
Would be very disappointing to see you back away, but understand what you are up against. It’s all about money and YT’s market research has shown they are the primary game in town for long version videos, so a captured audience so to speak for the content creators and consumers. As you mention, if it wasn’t for the content creators, there wouldn’t be a YT. Nice to see YT dumping on their revenue generators🙄. I agree with you as well that shorts are not the way to go as people wants to understand the details of builds. Your content is excellent and one of the reasons I keep using YT. In the end, do whats best for you and your family.

Interesting video Ben. A lot of the smaller excellent wood working channels, like yours & BischBaschBosch, that I used to see regularly are no longer showing up in my feeds at all so I never see them unless I remember to go and check in with them directly. Even in my subscriptions list, they get buried.
Makes sense that this started when RUclips introduced pay to promote at the start of the year. I hope they come to their senses before all the good makers are gone.

It does beggars belief that an organisation which relies on creators producing and contributing to a platform for free wants those contributors to pay them as well under the guise of a fairly bogus benefit to the creator. Wo dreamt up that business model. It really is taking the p@#s. Ok I get that RUclips pays its bills by attracting advertisement but its just greed or desperation on RUclips’s part. Not only do thay want to crap on your head but you have to pay them for the new hat.

I don't have the Promotion tab yet but I did pay to promote my workbench video (and associated plans) for a number of months via google ads, which was tricky to figure out, so I guess they are trying to make it more integrated into YT itself. It took a little while to figure out the settings, restrict the audience, and get it onto the right eyeballs but eventually after about a month I think I was hitting 'the best' audience I could hope for, English speaking woodworking folks searching for small workshop workbenchs. I spent about $30 (20 quid) a month, and it was about 3 or 4 cents per view, so what about 750-1000 views. From that spend, I maybe converted 30 subs a month... and of those very few went on to watch other content and actually earn me a few cents and I might have sold 1 or 2 sets of plans... impossible to tell if the sales came from paid promotion or just regular etsy traffic. So in all, unless you video is an actual advert for something you are selling and stand to make profit off, there is zero benefit to anyone paying for a video to be promoted except vanity. Pointless money-grab from YT.
Yeah I did the same yonks ago, waste of time! Works on Facebook though, but I’m not doing that I don’t make enough from them to invest a penny of it back into my account.

That feels like me paying my boss to have to use my laptop - that I'm using to work for him! ...and what's a view? 30 seconds. You don't even know if they're really watching. I feel for you, it feels like an attainable dream to turn your passion into an income stream. Selling the furniture thing seems to be a common theme I see - even the bigger guys like John Malecki struggle to sell without dropping the prices to piss take levels.

The huge hike in silly amounts of ads since Christmas would mean more income, nope it’s down, I could go on and on…
As others have said, I hope you find a way through this Ben. It would be great if this was the catalyst for a group of makers to come together and launch a new platform where the focus is on the needs of the makers and the viewers, rather than on the needs of big tech, greed and profit. Maybe there’s a parallel with the independent record labels of the 1980’s compared to the major record labels?

Rumble is on a slow roll. Maybe one day it will be an alternative platform for woodworking videos. Not much there now and I am not sure about the monetary side. But they will not remove videos for content they do not like unless it is illegal of course. Good luck! You are very entertaining.
The issue at rumble it it’s a twitter remake, lots of political bore the fuck off content, if they don’t change that soon it’ll die off. I have a feeling the WEF trojan horse elon will but rumble at some point to make his number one financial platform he dreams about. I’m thinking of moving to Russia where it’s a bit more sane.

No matter what I do. I cannot get to 600. As a woodworking channel, materials have gone through the roof, they will not push my videos & I definitely cannot afford to pay them.
Mate I had to go old school to do this, fucking RUclips won’t take me to your page from here suck a pain! Anyway straight off the bat I can see a huge issue, your thumbnails especially the text, I can’t read 99% of them is a white font with a black shadow or the other way round, yellow is also good it’s the most clicked on colour. The actual pics themselves are way to busy to have a clue what they’re about! You being in the thumbnail is good but not needed in everyone. Use as few words as possible too. I could only find one good thumbnail dude workshop organisation and that could do with a boost in brightness! Go back and redo them! You’ve loads of vids should be doing better than this for that many vids dude!

Completing the loop - in someone who watches videos and learns from people like you. This is going to kill that off too. Well just end up with the biggest channels which will kill the variety and ideas. Ive noticed the search engine doesn't seem to find things as well as it used to either. Everything goes in this direction gradually over time once the accountants and greedy money men start to get their way.
To add to that’s RUclips are showing you irrelevant content you don’t want to watch nor have any idea to watch, the suggestion page is a train smash it’s become a bore RUclips for the consumer and in turn killing it off for the creators, it’s been 8 months now and still the same I can only think this is on purpose otherwise they would of fixed it 😖

The algorithm is made by them in their favour, we all know since Christmas YT vids have an obscene amount of ads in their vids, which you would think more income for us, nope income nosedived, why is it I upload vids and my income drops, 5 vids ago was making say 50 quid a week then 5 new vids you would think I’d be making more money right? Nope it has dropped. Something fishy going on imo.
Jeezo , i subscribe to a few channels but to me your channel is in the top 3 turning out decent stuff ( not like some of the others turning out crap from aul pallets ) your funny entertaining , say it how it is and 1st class work , makes me wanna lift the tools and get stuck in. Advertising will only win if you have a very large channel following to start with. I've experienced the same, long ago in the real world of commercial furniture manufacturing.

I think RUclips should be paying creator's to load quality videos. If the creator's stop loading the RUclips won't have a y videos to show. They are dependent on the creator's and should be helping them make more and better video to boost their own platform.
Exactly!!! There’s such crap uploaded, I don’t see RUclips trying to help them make better vids, I’ve lost count of how many times the volume of said vids take my head off! I spoke you RUclips with the above and their answer was “just post often and as much as you can “ ie quality doesn’t matter - is why the platform is such a cesspit of vids with little value 😏
They do not watch the videos (as far as I am aware) unless there is a complaint. I believe it is all done with computers, so the only way they have to tell if it is any good is by the views.
Comments show that the viewer is most likely watching, so the adds are likely to be watched. Not sure if the the computers can tell from the comments yet if the video is any good. I doubt it consistently; too much slang and jargon.
It is really not much better for the viewers. In the middle of watching something important and YT cuts it off with 2 ads. Both disrespectful to the maker and the viewer. I'm just waiting for a better platform to appear and I am out of here. I've had a gut full of this crap. In the meantime, head up everyone. Cheers John
It’s would be so much a better world if advertising was gone completely, they have to much power and using that power for no good. Trouble is, what’s the answer? Subscription doesn’t work, we can’t afford to subscribe to everyone and everything.. rumble seemed an idea but with 50+ vids uploaded there I’ve made just over $1. Not only that it’s difficult to be creative with one hand tied behind my back keeping inside of the YT rule book. 😞

Dude a no you've probably heard this allot so far but dont kick the bucket (camera) so to speak. U are hugely talanted and deserve to be in the high hundres of thousands of subs pushing a mil. I follow channels that have bigger followers and are doing nothing like the detail u put into your videos never mind are anywhere close to the stunning peices u build. Have u thought about tiktok a don't no much about running yt channel but a here tiktok is also something you can make money at. A no thats not always the point. U creators are amazing at what u do and are getting screwed. Have u thought about making a Collaboration video with bunch others in similar situation may get yt to take notice? Thanks mate for the compliment!!! I really despise TikTok it’s ruined everything about being a creator, and they don’t pay anything of significance either. Theyre to blame for a lot of what’s wrong with a generation too. I’m uploading all my vids to Rumble seeing where that goes but that’s taking ages to do two days so far 🤦🏻♂️

Personally, I don't see any issue with your vid, we your audience don't know what the company (YT) does behind the scenes so I think it was a very pertinent narrative. I can't see how they can pull what you said off and police it, what do they do with the channels who get millions of views. I do not watch TV (apart from F1) I only watch YT so I have some idea about the platform albeit very limited. I am subscribed to 157 channels, mostly woodwork and a few car channels, I pay to only 1 and that is you. From what I see (please this is my opinion only) There are 2 types of creator. The first is very common regardless of what content they create, and they are the game players, they fuck about with titles to grab an audience, they clickbait to the point they become so predictable it is boring (because of this I unsubd from every click baiter I was subd to (such as Voyager & Future Space plus many others) The second, and these are much rarer, are the straightforward, straight talking, no bullshit, honest, caring and genuinely talented creators. Unfortunately the YT process with it's algorithm's doesn't care about ppl like that and that is a shame. YT will kill itself if it persists to challenge and test the creators like you and they will find themselves like Blockbuster, they will lose their sincere audience and become out of touch and obsolete.

Only the other day i was thinking why a talented craftsman has only 17 grand plus subscribers opposed to some garish yank who has double and only started a few months back. I put it down to you aint wearing any bullshit and not bowing to tool companys cause you wont chat spiel. Once again, all about the money. Hi Brent, RUclips tells us we get a small cut but no not really. What would help is if youtube returned the reach we had before they lowered it so we would pay for that reach and brought in the BS to make us creators pay.
With premium, it's divided up by not only how much you watch, but how much you watch a channels content. Fractions of a pence all said and done, so no. No more help to the creator than an ad. It's mainly for the viewer (you) watching content ad-free.
Really sorry to see how stressed this is making you. I think what you do is brilliant and if you can keep going then please do so. I my line of work as a chartered building surveyor I run my own business and it seems everything is costing more every month and there's always someone with their hand out be it VAT, insurance or corporate membership fees. I fully understand the stress this will be causing you Ben. If you find a good alternative to YT let us know so we can support you and any other creators that join in.

It’s not something I haven’t considered, I know I could give Sam Smith a run for his money! On a serious note yeah I agree, they’ve culled people to fit a narrative that’s as boring as a uk summer, I find it hard to find anything worth watching for the last 7 months it’s all so clinical and dull, no personality in the vids cause they’re to scared to. It’s joke, my vids are set to “not made for children” but yet if a say a naughty word advertisers don’t want their ad on my vids. Advertising needs to die is the short answer. There needs to be a better way, a way that lets creative people be creative and for everyone to be able to enjoy that.

I found you from a mention by and a link from rag-n-bone in your midst have review so taking that one step further, maybe you and a few other like minded channels start referring to each other to share subscribers? sorry if that's obvious, just hate to see a solid content creator struggling
