I have one since 2016. a second one in original Package just if my old one dies. 180.000 shutter count and still working like nothing happened. It was my first ever camera system. Greetings from Germany
One of the biggest advantages of the GX85 is its ability to take 3840×2160 photos directly from the camera. It can be displayed on a 4K TV in a point-to-point manner. The curve will not be deformed due to thumbnails, causing the image on the screen to be blurred.
I just got a mint one with the 12-32 and the 35-100 "pancake" tele for 350€, amazing deal! I found myself never having the DSLR with me when I wanted to take pictures the most and not really enjoying my phone for photography. It takes great pictures but it feels lifeless. This camera solves this so well. Now I'm looking for a good deal on a faster prime, probably the 20, maybe the 14. The 35-100 also really impressed me. It gives you the power of a 70-200 always in your pocket (it's like 6cm long when collapsed).
This camera is always in my pocket combined with a Yi 42.5mm f 1.8 I own more than 10 cameras and over 50 lenses but this combination is always with me 😂 Nice video man have fun with it
I had a gx7, and it was stolen 2 weeks ago. I bought this thinking it was the gx8, and ive been very upset with how companies come up with all these confusing names for their products. This review has put my mind to ease and helped me feel better about my purchase as I wait for it in shipping. Thanks for the vid!
No its awesome and solid, Same as gx7 but with much better Image Stabilization!! More portable...although I did love my GX7 - sorry people suck and stole your stuff.
Just picked one up for $125! Fellow didn't like the viewfinder, had it for a few years, treated it very nicely, no marks, and I'm enjoying it a ton! So, I've decided to go with the OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ Black kit lens for street photography and I'm excited to pick that glass up. Def not as good as that 20mm you picked up, but it'll be fun, I'm sure. Great video. Thank you!
I have one of these cameras, very cheap with the 12-32mm f3.5/5.6 lens (399 €). If you use your right eye to look through the viewfinder, your nose won't touch the display. There is a special grip available for larger hands and a mirror for the hot shoe to take selfies.
You want the Lumix PZ14-42 H-PS14042, it gives you a more than adequate zoom and folds to the size of the 20/1.7 to slip into a pocket. The 20/1.7 is tack sharp but unstabilised, slow to focus and cannot AFC.
Great review. I was in a similar situation. Use this more than the larger cameras. The 14mm 2.5 is also a great lens for this camera. The 12-32 that usually comes with this is also quite useful and has stabilisation. The only drawback is you have to rotate it to enable it.
6:21 "I actually start using my nose to like navigate focus points, it's ridiculous" Very funny, this is a skill I have to acquire yet. Joke appart there is an extended eye cup for those GX cameras. It transforms the EVF into a black chamber for bright days, very comfortable for the eyes, and gives a solid 3 points anchor stabilization system (2 hands and 1 eyebrow) because you can press on the EVF with your eyebrow. A side effet could be that your nose will no longer touch the LCD :) My nose is never interfering with the LCD on my GX9.
Hope you sold the P12-60mm lens at a good price. I too was looking for a small M43 body. I landed on the GX85. Wow. Great value for money. As you said, this body is feature rich. Very glad it has IBIS. Being a Panasonic camera there are a lot of video features too. I’m a photographer so I appreciate the tilting screen. This body produces lovely still and video images. The autofocus is contrast only. It is quick & accurate for photography. Not so much for video. It hunts and goes back & forth until it locks on to your subject. The focus isn’t sticky and may lock onto another subject. I upgraded to the GX9. Overall, incremental improvements. My GX9 came with the P12-60mm lens. Like you, I was going to Craigslist it to lower the cost of the new body. I also have the PL12-60mm lens. Turns out, for me, it isn’t too large or heavy for the body. I appreciate the range of this zoom. Favorite feature is the L monochrome D B&W jpeg. Very contrasty. Big complaint with Panasonic. Why, oh why, did you exclude the audio mic? Big mistake. Last month I was at the local camera store. They had a GX8 in good condition for less than the GX85 &9. All these bodies are small and light. They produce lovely stills & video. These bodies fit in a coat pocket with the small primes. Glad I own these bodies. I can recommend any of them for EDC, street, travel, or family photography. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Excellent review! I'm using the exact same setup. I bought this new in 2016 with the 12-32 kit lens and immediately replace it with the 20mm 1.7. A great set up. One thing I've noticed is when I have the camera set in iA mode this lens is constantly focusing, it doesn't stop until I turn the camera off. Do you have the same problem? I just don't use iA mode and set it to P...

That’s a great point. I hadn't thought of that.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive.
I had one, loved it. Sadly, it was stolen. I replaced it with a gx9, which I also love.

Thanks for the support. I used it this past weekend!

It didn't come out in 2012-13-14, but in 2016. Nice no-nonsense review though :)
lol, good to know, thanks. Newer than I thought.
It’s still my favorite I think it’s better than the pen f
Never used a pen F - I do like th GX a lot though
Do you have the link to the lens you got for it? I have the gx85 as well but it already came with a lens
which one in particular? I have several...the 20, 40 or pancake zoom...any m43 lens mount lens will work btw. Try MPB lens...
