Mmm durian is so good. Lol we have durian here in Vancouver but fresh ones are kept frozen because of the smell. One of my dads favourite stories is about when he was traveling in Asia and bought a durian at a local farmers market. On the drive back to the hotel the taxi driver made him hang it out the window. When he arrived at the hotel the concierge said no durians allowed inside. He took my dad around to the back, gave him a chair, took the durian to someone standing outside then brought the fruit back all cut up. 😂😂😂
Not sure why they do extra work to get to the inside fruit. Just cut the outside shell and the fruit is right there, no need to cut out into piece and trimming.
I have had durian super ripe only one time in my life and my first impression was "OMG how can someone like this!?" An then I remember how foreigners here hate the soda flavor root beer -which is my favorite. 😅 To each thrir own I guess~

Can I ask, is there a reason why Thais cut durians in this manner? Normally in Malaysia and Singapore, sellers will just cut open the durian by looking at the bottom of the durian and then follow the lines that extend out from the bottom of the durian. Is it because Thai Durians are not fully ripe that's why the cutting needs to be done like in this video?

Thai durians are not fully matured. That's why it smells sweet.
In the case of China, the smell is bad because durian is eaten after fully ripening.

You answer that yourself already. Yes thai durian are unripe
It’s too yucky for most Thais to eat that ripe , we prefer them crispy on the outside and moist on the inside!
