  • On the occasion of the XI ISLA we had a series of interviews with writers from Ireland, Spain and Latin America. Among them, we interviewed the renowned author John Banville.
    John Banville is a novelist, screenwriter, playwright and book reviewer. He worked in journalism for many years and was a literary editor at The Irish Times from 1988 to 2000.
    He is a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books, the Guardian newspaper, and other journals. His novels include The Book of Evidence and The Sea, and the forthcoming The Singularities.
    He was awarded the Man Booker Prize, the Austrian State Prize for Literature, the Kafka Prize and the Prince of Asturias Award. He has written a number of crime novels, including Snow, and, most recently, April in Spain.

    Con ocasión del XI ISLA mantuvimos una serie de entrevistas con escritores de Irlanda, España y América Latina. Entre ellos, entrevistamos al renombrado autor John Banville.
    John Banville es novelista, guionista, dramaturgo y crítico de libros. Trabajó en periodismo durante muchos años y fue editor literario en The Irish Times desde el 1988 al 2000.
    Es colaborador habitual de The New York Review of Books, el periódico The Guardian y otras revistas.Ha escrito El libro de las pruebas, El mar y The Singularities, de próxima publicación, y novelas policiacas como Snow y, más recientemente, Quirke en San Sebastián.

    Fascinating writer. Worth reading and re-reading. As Banville or Black.

    Interesting perspective… crime writing leads to expediency, the pulp noir novels of the mid 20th century- a perfect example. As for us being different beings agree, but as one ages I find less sharp edges. He’s a fine ✍️ brilliant I’d say. I find his Quirke series very accessible, and in line with my inclinations. Very pensive guy…the “Angel” sentence -how Catholic.

      More biblical than Catholic, I would say... the Bible is big, the church is small.
