On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 10-2-22.
We're looking at a 1975 Chevrolet Chevy Chevelle Laguna Type S-3 in Blue Paint. The car comes with the factory 400 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Gary Dinges. Gary’s had this car since 2016. He shares he was in a Chevrolet Dealership making a trade, and saw this car was on consignment and fell in love when he saw it.
ENJOY! - Авто/Мото

Gary is my co-worker, and I was with him when he spotted this at the competitive dealer. You picked the best person to interview for your channel because he will be telling all of his friends to check out the video for a long time! Loved seeing a familiar face along with an awesome car too! 😊

Great Laguna! This is a rare one - and one that is largely lost to history.
I can’t remember the last time I saw one.
This is a beautiful example.
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, You're right, a rare car to see today. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and the mid-70’s isn’t known for great cars. But there were some very nice cars and this is one of them. I bet that’s a sweet ride.
Hi Alan, Happy to read you enjoy this "very nice car" :-) Lou
Not all great cars have to be muscle cars. This S3 would be like a Golden Retriever. A wonderful everyday companion that doesn't demand anything of you but is always reliable. And beautiful too.
Hi Tom, Happy to read you appreciate this "wonderful everyday companion" :-) Lou
I remeber when i was 4 years old in 1977, hearing the phone ringing, and my aunt telling my dad that my cousin was in the hospital. He had just totalled his S3, I loved that car!!!
Thank you Lou...Thank you Gary!
Don't think I have seen one of these since the '70's. Great find.
Hi Mikey B., Happy to read you appreciate seeing one of these today. You're welcome, Lou
Well optioned & plenty of power for its day. It's no wonder Mr. Dinges fell in love with it. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, "power for its day" :-) Well said! You're welcome, Lou
Great looking Laguna S-3 ! My neighbor had a Red one just like this. It was loaded and had 2 window stickers ! Very comfortable. His was a 350 Hi PO with a swivel drivers bucket. Loved that car. This blue one is a beautiful example... Thanks for posting Lou !
Hi Rudy, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi, Lou! This installment of "My Car Story" definitely falls into the category of "And Now For Something Completely Different"! Chevrolet first introduced the Chevelle Laguna in 1973 as a complete top-of-the-line series that included not just a coupe but also a sedan and four wagons (two- and three-seaters in plain-sided and Estate trim) that were offered only in that one year. I sure wouldn't mind having of them! In 1974, Chevrolet elected to focus more on luxury than sport and made the Malibu Classic the new top of the line, while limiting the Laguna to just the S-3 coupe, which as Gary said, replaced the SS. The last Laguna was the '76, and since all Chevelles for '77 were a Malibu of some kind, Malibu officially displaced Chevelle as the series name when the cars were downsized for '78. Gary's car may not have as much oomph as an SS, but it still strikes me as plenty of fun and it's definitely unique! Also, it's nice to know that Chevrolet was helping to keep America beautiful (5:55)!
Many thanks to you and Gary for spotlighting this extra special bowtie for us!
Hi iswc27, Happy to read you're comment :-) Glad I'm keeping the Viewers guessing "What's next?" :-) Always enjoy reading your knowledge. My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Sharp looking car, and a beautiful color combination. Certainly one that you don't see at every car show. Thanks for sharing, guys!
Hi Roger R, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Good looking 48 year-old car! Looks almost new! Beautiful video! Thank you, Lou!
I agree Jon!
Hi JON, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Appreciate the kind words on the video. You're welcome, Lou
I hear you Lou, very comfortable cruiser and pretty rare too. Kudos for keeping it original. Thanks for feature guys 👍
Hi Bruce H, I like that this one is original too. You're welcome, Lou
There were rare back in the day not many survived so more rare today glad to see one again
Hi Larry, You're right. You don't see these often today, Lou
I remember them with the swivel bucket seats.
Thank you for sharing what you remember.
Lou, thanks so much for sharing this video of Gary's 75 Laguna. I also own a 75 Laguna which I would call a twin to Gary's. It's so nice to finally see this generation of GM A Body gets some much deserved attention. Keep up the great work Lou!
g3 Garage, Happy to read you have a cool car too. Thank you for the kind words on the work, Lou
Gary’s car was a big hit in the Malaise Era Muscle display I put together for the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals last November. Glad to see him featured in your video!
Hi Brad, Happy to read (and see at the MCACN show) that this car was a big hit :-) Great job putting together your display, Lou
I love this car !!! My Dad had a 1973 white Chevelle 350 then traded it in for a 1977 black Chevelle (Malibu) 305. I always remember pointing out the ‘74-76 Lagunas to Dad and asked him why he didn’t get one of those at the time. Oh well. Great Memories!!!
Hi Michael P, Happy to read "I love this car !!!" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My ex-brother-in-law has a 1974 Chevy Laguna S-3 in white with burgundy trim, and interior. It was equipped with a 350 C.I. engine with Turbo automatic transmission. His had the swivel bucket seats and center console. This Laguna has the bench seat , rather than the swivel bucket seats. It has the 400 engine in it instead of the 350. This 1975 looks radically different than the 1974 model year. Interesting car .Lou!
Hi Michael, Would love to video that car if it's still in original condition. Thanks for sharing, Lou
Unfortunately, the car had severe body cancer and it was traded in for a Dodge Omni 024 Hawk package in the early 80s.
That was my 1st car, in burnt orange and blac. 400 w/4bbl, and 350 turbo tranny, and swivel buckets. Loved it.

There was a nice black '76 I often used to see at local shows in my area. It's been a good 8 years or so I think since I last came across it.
Hi AMCmachine, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the black one you remember :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The 454 was offered in the Chevy A-bodies I believe for the first few months of the 1975 model year if not longer. Actually saw a 1975 Camino or GMC Sprint at a show a few years ago that was a factory 454. I don't think many were made before they pulled the big block option. Besides the various Chevelle/Malibu iterations, the Monte could still be had with a 454 as well.
Thank you for sharing.
That's a pretty slick looking car, and it sounds nice! Nothing like a sporty land-yacht to enjoy cruising! Thanks for sharing this Gary and Lou!
Hi Rick, Happy to read you enjoy this "pretty slick looking car" :-) You're welcome, Lou
That is a really clean looking Laguna, I really like the colors and it has some nice details with the Chevy bowties in the tail lights. Nice one Lou!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
I have seen Gary's Chevy Laguna S-3 at Vaessen Brothers Chevrolet in Sublette, Illinois. It is in great shape and is a very rare car.
Happy to read you've seen this car in person :-)
Rare and classic. Never fail to disappoint Lou

I remember back in high school, a good friend had a '75, but his had the 454. Another friend had a '74 with the small block 400. I miss those factory swivel bucket seats.

My older brother had a 75 or 76 slant nose in high school in 86-87 Peoria IL. His was in rough shape but ran good, I think it had a 350 it had some engine mods & all the emissions crap removed. So it was actually somewhat quick. Sadly it probably ended up in a crusher. I thought it was only "kinda cool" back then. But would love one for restomod now. In a similar style as the 73? one on RUclips that was shown at Sema.
I had a 74 Laguna. Same color and engine only I had swivel bucket seats. It was a gas hog but I loved it. Thanks Lue 👍
Hi Larry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The 454 was available in the 75 Laguna but in 1976 the largest engine available was the 400. These are awesome cars. I was the second owner off a 75, bought it from my older brother with 40,000 miles back in 1980. Unfortunately being young and dumb I didn't realize what I had. Medium Orange Metalic with Black top and stripe, black bench seat column shift. I have been trying to find another one for years to replace that car. Approximately 7700 made in 1975, and 9800 made in 1976. The main differences between a 75 and 76 are, 454 not available in 76, the upholstery changed in 76 the woodgrain race track was no longer on the door panels and rear panels, and the rear taillights and back panel, the cool looking chevy bowtie was not in the taillight lens. And then they used a larger rear bumper that looked like it had come from a truck. All in all beautiful cars. Ride like a cloud, ride quality was more important in those days, compared to handling these days.

Great paint, trim & interior color combination
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
The clean white interior is impressive! 😅👍👍
I agree
Hey Lou! I remember thinking when the car front ends were losing the Chrome and gaining the Urethane fillers panels and front ends that didn’t always line up right with the fenders. I had this thing against Plastic. Thinking the future would be all plastic in cars. Like the Mustang II front and rear end. Even thought my First new car at age 18 had wavy front and rear bumpers on the bottom (80 XR-7). But these Laguna’s always looked Great for mid 70’s.
Hey gene978, Happy to read your thought seeing this car. Glad you enjoy the looks of the Laguna, Lou
I know most don't hold cars of this era in high regard, but I was a teenager when these came out and I love old Detroit iron. Yeah, build quality went to pot and the engines were choked with regulations and those stupid 5 mph impact bumpers were added to inflate the mass of the car with little benefit, but I remember these new. I remember getting excited when it was new car time to see the new models and the changes. Alas, we barely have cars being made these days and annual changes are lucky to be as much as a different external paint choice. Very nice car, Lou! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Carroll, Happy to read you remember these cars new :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Didn’t think I would like any car after 1973 but this one looks really cool and I’d love to own one.
Hi David, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Helu My grandmother used to have a 1973 Chevrolet Laguna bought it brand-new she lived in Illinois she sold it or traded it in I should say and 1979 for an Impala but it was nice it was kind of a bronze colored had white bucket seats with the shift on the floor 350 4 barrel dual exhaust it had very low mileage cuz my grandmother didn't drive a lot when she sold it I wish I would have been able to get that car from her boy that would have been something to have but nice seeing one of these Laguna's are very rare made from a Malibu but they had that special front-end which I always thought was nice my grandmother's even had a mate track which was kind of cool cuz we took it on a trip we went and stayed with my grandmother and 1976 and Illinois we drove it down to Georgia to visit my aunt we had a blowout on the freeway my mom long story my mom wasn't too experienced with blowouts and swerved across the whole freeway to get off the freeway cutting a bunch of people off but luckily I was old enough and you how to change the tire and it did it for? Keep up the great videos my friend.
Hi spackmaster Chavez, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Grandmothers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Never ever have seen one this color, even when I worked at Chevrolet in those years taking care of all of the pre- delivery details of every car/truck off of the car carrier for the new owner(s). When these Laguna S-3's came out,, we typically got the red (burgundy) and white cars with the herring bone type cloth and vinyl but all with the swivel bucket seats. In '74, we finally got a black and white version with the 454 engine, loaded with all of the power goodies including the sunroof/moonroof. I wanted that one so bad but I was still in high school and had to settle driving my '57 2dr hdtp Bel Air or my '67 VW Bug. This guys color combo is very nice but surprised to see the front bench seat and the 400ci small block. Maybe he's also got a very rare one!
Hi K B, Happy to share this one with you. Glad to read this car brings back memories of the 74 with the 454 :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Engine starting ,sound very nice.....
Hi Iraq Kingdom, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds from this car :-) Lou
I love these rare ones! Great find, Lou!! The mid-70s just seem to be the dark years, but the emissions were hitting the automotive world and the HP just wasn't there. But I still love to see these mid-70s Chevelles, Monzas, Vegas, and even the Mustangs. Hard to find any of them these days.
Hi 21nix onme, You're right. You don't see many of these today. My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Love it..have a 76 chevelle laguna 22000 original miles...
Hi Jeff A, Happy to read you "Love it" :-) Lou
Glad to read you have a cool car too!
Very cool, always liked the Laguna! 🙂👍
Happy to read you always like the Laguna! :-)
as mentioned in the video if you go back and look at some NASCAR races in the mid 70’s this body style was prolific - especially on the super speedways
Hi Mike, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
First year for the catalytic converter. I remember as a kid all the GM cars sounded as though they were having a hard time exhaling. A lot of guys removed them for headers and duals. It really woke up these smog engines. And yes… it is a beautiful car! 😎👍
75 did not have true duals as an option on these cars. 74 was the last yr that they did. If this example does, it's not factory.
Hi drippinglass, Clearly a memory from a specific time period. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@adamtrombino106 That’s why I remarked “A lot of guys removed them for headers and duals”.
At that time in California we had annual smog inspection including visual verification of all equipment present. No one was modifying 1975 cars in Cali!
@@JackF99 And… it only got worse. 😀
Cool looking car thanks 👍

Hi Dan, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sweet" car :-) Lou
I remember when the Laguna series was introduced in 1973. I don’t think that it ever lived up to Chevrolet’s sales expectations. The new Monte Carlo was introduced the same year and for very little additional money, it was a home run.
Hi Dave, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Actually, the Monte Carlo was introduced in 1970
@@georgedavidson4219
Yes no one is more aware than I of the Monte Carlo’s introduction in 1970 as I hung out at a Chevrolet dealership in those days as a teenager. In 1973 the car took a different approach which was very successful.
Hey Lou! I always liked the front end of these compared to the earlier Type S-3. I remember seeing a show on TV I don't know what it was called, But Dale Jr. took the front end of this model year Laguna Type S-3, & put it on a 76 El Camino for a pro touring build . I being a Chevy guy wondered why Chevrolet never did this from factory it made for one tough looking El Camino, & it sure looked better than the ones with the stacked headlights. Going back to this featured Type S-3 I can say I've never seen one in this color combination; I always saw them in the Burgundy & White.I do like the white interior as well, & you don't see many in this condition anymore. Thanks for the video on this featured automobile.
Hey Venice! My pleasure sharing this car with you. Thank you for sharing your Dale Jr story too. You're welcome, Lou
Really surprised the bench seat was an option on the Laguna, beautiful car.
75 was the last year for the 454 in Chevy cars but was available for Chevy
trucks well into the 90's.
Thanks Lou, keep on truckin.
Hi Mighty Lonesome, Thank you for sharing. You're welcome, Lou

Good looking car. Love the color. Thanks Lou.
Hi Jimmy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Very nice car. I remember seeing these growing up. The shade of blue and the white stripe going all the way around the car is very nice and unique. I remember that the shade of red that was available was also very nice. Interesting to hear how the style was outlawed by NASCAR though it is barely aerodynamic when compared to the Chryslers a few years before, the Daytona and Superbird. If I recall correctly, Buick and Oldsmobile had similarly styled versions of their entries.
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Happy to read this car brings back memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
ooh, body colored rally wheels. Can't recall ever seeing that on a chevy. Looks nice though.

Nice S-3 Great clip to watch!

My first car was a red 76. Out of all the cars I’ve owned it’s still my favorite. Slid off the road and bent the frame so unfortunately mine went to the crusher.

THE best looking GM colonnade model!! I'd paint those Ralley Wheels back to Argent though - unless the blue was original. In the colonnade era, the Super Sport became the Laguna S3 and the GTO became the Grand Am. But Olds kept the 442 package, while Buick I believe dropped the GS package, and replaced it with the Free Spirit edition??
Someone around the corner from me had one of those when I was a kid, but it was silver-gray, with black stripes and half vinyl top.
Hi Dan, High praise for the looks of this GM model :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of the car around the corner from you. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
On the Laguna S3 cars the rims were painted the color of the body.
Good looking car !

I had the same exact car same color package . I bought it in Pennsylvania was on a lot for sale with a old 4 sale sign in it asking $5000 .The sign looked old falling down I offered the guy $1500 and he said it yours . I sold it when I moved too San Diego in 2001.

¡Excelente video, Lou, y saludos!

Hi Yesenia, Happy to read your Friend has a cool black one with a 454 :-) Lou
Despite all this stuff about the "malaise era", these midsize GM coupes were very nice cars to own and drive. While performance was not up to the muscle cars of prior years, they were quiet, comfortable riding cars that handled suprisingly well.
Hi David, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Nice looking car... thanks for featuring. I don't think the car came with dual exhaust. That was GM's first year for catalytic converters, and everything was plumbed through that single pipe.
Hi John D, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for sharing your knowledge about the exhaust. My pleasure featuring this car, and you're welcome, Lou
My dream car of the 1973-'77 GM Collanade models would be the '74 & '75 Monte Carlo without question. The perfect Rolls Royce flavor and essence. The front end very RR. The '76 & '77 ruined by the Chevelle staked headlights. This Laguna though would be my 3rd in line choice wise after the Grand Prix. I love the front end best on the S-3 Laguna. The single headlights and housing on this '75 are the reverse of the '57 Chevys'. Take another look everyone if you didn't notice earlier. The older (much more plentiful) car still steals all the attention, like it or not.
Sorry about the typo. I meant 'stacked' headlights.
Hi Bob, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Very Nice S3, officially no 454 in 1975 but has been rumors of them, also single exhaust would have been par for the course in 1975 as that's when the single exhaust wit catalytic converters we're introduced by GM very nice example of a Laguna S3 though

That Hawaiian Tropic car was one of those, same thing that Terry Bradshaw and Mel Tillis drove in Cannonball Run. I think, don't quote me on this but I think Pepsi sponsored one of these, before they were outlawed...?

For Nascar fan's we know what this car is, there's a few still around, if it'd been me I would've built the 400 a little bit, put a 4 speed auto. for cruising, keeping a little of Nascar history alive 😁
Hi John, Happy to share this one with you :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou
Damn what's up with NASCAR banning cars that are competitive? Chevrolet did build 454 Chevelles until 1975 before it was discontinued for 76. After that only 305 and 350 small block V8s were available.
Hi Garrison, Not sure all the NASCAR rules and restrictions. Maybe a Viewer with knowledge car share. Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Did some of these have swivel bucket seats/floor shift? Some 454 big bloçk too! Maybe that was 73-74.
Hi Chris, Hmmm, I'm not sure. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share. Lou
No 454 engine option on the Laguna and Monte Carlo for 76 400 cid biggest engine option My dad has the first one built in Canada from the Oshawa plant

Sad what they had to do with those wonderful muscle car engines. They still put the big engine in it but choked it off and detuned the compression from a 10.5 to, like 6.5. Or as they say in the common tongue, they deballed the engines. You were right Lou, it’s closer to a 5-3 than a SS
Hi David, "Sad what they had to do with those wonderful muscle car engines." I agree. Thank you for sharing, Lou
4 sail ?
Not aware of this car being for sale.
All chevy 400's are small block. Pontiac 400 were big blocks including the 350. The 75 400 Laguna had 175 h.p.
