    "North Philly legends...
The Ram Squad was a Gangsta/Hardcore rap group from Philadelphia, PA, made up of Boy Backs, Six Nine, Suave & the late Tommy Hill. "Ram" is an acronym for Richard Allen Mob, which refers to the Richard Allen Homes, a housing project located in lower North Philly, which was demolished in 2003 and where all the members grew up.
Before getting into music, several members of the group had trouble with the law & Tommy Hill had already spent time in prison.
Ram Squad launched their career with the help of Joseph "Skinny Joe" Merlino, who is believed to have been the boss of the Philadelphia-South Jersey Mafia during the 90's.They first appeared officially in 1994 on Sha'Dasious' album "Phunk Whucha Heard". The same year, they released their debut album, the EP "Ramboon", followed by the 12" "Keep It Real / When And Where".
In 1996, Ram Squad released their first full length album through Echo International, "Operation Lock The City", which is their best release with "Regardless", dropped one year later on Bank Management & Entertainment. Those albums are pure dopeness... They define very well Ram Squad style : RAW... To be honest, if the topics or the lyrics doesn't depart from basic gangsta rap, the energy of the flows & the gritty but melodic atmosphere created on almost each track make them almost timeless. And if "Operation Lock The City" is a self produced album with no guest, "Regardless" also relies on the beats provided by Philly legendary rap figures Ruggedness, Dasious The Warlock (Sha'Dasicous), K. Goodman (aka Qur'an Goodman, former member of Da Youngsta's) & DJ Miz. And oh, just a detail, some tight featurings by local rappers including... Bahamadia herself and an early appearance by... Eve, then called Eve of Destruction...
After a few more singles & mixtapes, Ram Squad had gained some attention & sold 50.000 records independently, mostly in Philadelphia. They were signed by major label Universal in 1999.
Then they recorded an album, collaborated with heavyweights such as Kurupt (a native of Philadelphia), Cam'ron, Sticky Fingaz or Nelly, with whom they toured & had some TV airplay with the single "Ballers (Up In Here)" before Universal dropped them for some unknown reason...
Ram Squad released a final record in 2001, called "R.andom A.ccess M.oney". This album contains some of the songs they recorded with Universal that were remastered & renamed.
The group didn't release anything else & split up in the 2000's. Tommy Hill, one of the founding members, released a solo album in 2002 before serving a new prison sentence for selling crack. On December 2 2011, he was shot & killed in a robbery attempt". - HOMEMUSICMEDIAMAPBLOG (www.thegoodold...)
