- Backpacking at the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan & hammock camping on Lake Superior. This was a 2 day 1 night solo backpacking trip with severe thunderstorms at night. backpacking, hiking, hammock camping, gear reviews, ultralight gear, and outdoor activities.
*_It was a wet affair, both from the rain and from the high humidity. However, a great adventure, hats off that you did it under these conditions. You have shown wonderful nature and landscapes, wild waterfalls, streams, lakes, idyll at the campfire and again and again very beautiful forests. Nice show of your equipment, too. That was a great performance these two days to go outside and to stay overnight in the thunderstorm, that would not be my thing, I prefer to sleep in the dry ;-) :))) Great performance, thank you for sharing your experiences. Best regards from Germany, Angela_*
Thanks Angela! It rained a lot more than what I expected and the thunderstorm at night was crazy.
Great work sir, you did an amazing job.
Thanks! I'll be going back to do a challenge hike in about 2 weeks.
Looked like a great trip!
Thanks Jason! It was a little wet, but still a good weekend solo trip.
AWESOME ADVENTURE! Thanks for sharing amigo.
Thanks Ben! 👍😀
Beautiful hike! Thanks for sharing, I'll have to consider that area someday.
Very enjoyable and informative video to watch uptrail. Thanks for sharing uptrail
Thanks Willy! This was a fun, but a little challenging solo trip.👍😀
Very nice area for sure. You guys sure have some beautiful places up there. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks again Chris! This a very nice place up in our area. We have had a very busy summer and I'll have another video going public this afternoon. We finally hiked the entire 42 1/2 mile lakeshore trail at Pictured Rocks.
Thanks for sharing!! Was just there a couple weeks ago. Brought me back there, awesome! Great tip about unbuckling pack!
I'm glad that you enjoyed the video! It's a good idea to unbuckle the pack when crossing in deeper water or a strong current.
Thanks for sharing. Looked like an awesome hike.
Thanks! This trip was a little wet, but at least it rained at night. I did get to see a lot on this trip.
This definitely looks like a beautiful trail to hike for sure my friend. And camping right along Lake Superior looked absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Thanks MP! I really like the campsites along Lake Superior. I still need to catch up on watching videos, but I'm again in the middle of getting ready for another trip. 3 days 42 1/2 miles at Pictured Rocks.
I am sure you are busy because it is the hiking season for sure.
Awesome trip, man. It's amazing how similar that area looks, in many ways, to my neck of the woods, yet strikingly different in some ways as well. Beautiful place for sure, awesome cliff views, waterfalls, lake vistas, it has it all, and you even saw a porcupine! Nice! Good test of your gear too in the rain storms.
Thanks! This is a very good place to go backpacking and I still have a few more trails to check out. I just started to edit my 42 1/2 mile hiking video at Pictured Rocks. It was hot, humid and buggy, but we survived.
Beautiful landscape
The cliff views are beautiful and the Lake Superior campsite was great!
Looks like a nice place to hike. thanks for the vid Buddy!
This is a beautiful area, but I sure did pick a wet time to go. 😬
very cool that is essentially old growth forest.. beautiful green out there... nice waterfalls, wow what a great spot for a campsite! Amazing porcupine footage!! love the chicken mashed potato meal, looks like you got a super site yourself, good thing you are prepared for rain ! that view towards the end really is nice.. Excellent video thanks for taking us with you.. i know you have been around here before but this was an extra good trip i think
Thanks!! 👍😀 My original plan was to make this a high mileage trip, but with the morning thunderstorms I decided to only hike about 22 miles for the 2 days. It would have been a little over 30 miles. The campsite along Lake Superior is one of my favorites. They had severe flooding just north of this area from the same storm. It still rained about 3" in this area.
that's a lot of rain///
Great video Bob. Nice views for sure. Love to go there
Thanks Darrell! It's a good area for backpacking.
Nice man! I was just there with a few friends about a week before you! I have my video coming out tonight!
Thanks!! 👍😀
Cool video. Those were some big down trees. The landscape around there is beautiful. I’d love to stay in one of those cabins. Are they hard to get? The porcupine was cool. Those views are incredible uptrail. Thanks for sharing. 😃👍👍
Thanks Jason! It's a nice area not too far from us. They have several cabins and usually at least 1 is available. We have thought about renting one and you will have to hike to them.
uptrail71 I think that would be fun to hike to a cabin. Thanks for letting me know. 👍
Very cool man!
Thanks!! 👍😀
When you say the lake superior trail is a disaster, is that because of the high water? Would you not recommend that trail when it has been wet?
The Lake Superior trail is nice when it's dry, but it can be a mess after a heavy rain. We had a video from a few years ago when it was a disaster after a heavy amount of rain.
We were just leaving there on Saturday the 16th. It was our first time at Porcupine Mountain we stayed at the Union Bay Modern Campground. We did the Union Spring trail in was a mess but managed to get through it. It seems you have backpacked often there have you ever seen a bear around the trails? I was quite nervous about running into one.
The Union Spring Trail is one of the very few trails that I haven't hiked on yet. The wet and muddy areas do slow you down some, but we have done it many times over the years. Two years ago I saw a bear with her cub on the Lake Superior Trail. They went off their way without bothering us. Now you wouldn't want to get between them somehow.
Beautiful hike, thanks for sharing . May I ask , how are the horse flies in June?
The biting flies were just starting to come out when I went on this trip. It's worse for bugs if you get a wet weather trip around this time or if it's hot and humid. dryer weather or some wind will help for less bugs.
Thanks again.. the horse flies is why I am planning my Picture Rock hike in October or early November before the time change.
Your videos are great , I learned a lot Have a great 2019 hiking season
Going in 3 weeks
Doing carp river to little carp back to overlook have 2 back country sites
Have fun on your trip! This will be a good hike with a few stream crossings. Awesome views on the Big Carp River Trail cliffs!
👍
Thanks!! 👍😀
