I did read it and it answered a question I had been pondering but which I had neglected to research. I see wasps flying around my back yard and I wondered if they were useful. I saw one catch a fly and make off with it, but did not know about wasps eating caterpillars. I had been dreading a caterpillar invasion subsequent to all the little white butterflies hovering over my plants. I guess I'll leave the wasps alone. I just wish they also snacked on Japanese beetles.
I mean I might sound cruel but I really hate wasps. I just purchased a wasp trap from Walmart, but I don’t want to kill them either. After the trap is full, about how far away do I have to drive them to keep them from finding my property again?
I'd leave them in the freezer overnight. Or, maybe a few minutes in the microwave! Or, hold them underwater for a bit. Or, hold a torch at the screen end. Or, shoot Defcon 4 all over them.
how do you know for sure if the wasps are taking care of the garden? I left them last year and unfortunately the wasps did more stinging of me, than eating of aphids.
Hi Randy, if you find a wasp nest and open it up, you'll find it packed with caterpillars, spiders, and all manner of bugs. They do a lot of bug collecting.
Then perhaps my infestation was more proliferate than I thought. We looked in the nest and didn't find any of those. Just babies. Are there different types of nests that I could look for? I would love to show my kids that.
Yes, if you can find the large paper-wasp nests, they are enclosed and they use empty cells to stuff dead bugs in. It's a great way, not only to see what they are taking, but represents what is in your environment. It's a shame they take spiders though, as spiders are excellent pest control also.
You really can't "relocate" them as they are social and have a queen etc at the nest. Relocating working foragers really doesn't work as they can't reconstruct a nest.
Your voice & voiceover audio has a very calm & relaxing effect. Next time I have insomnia, I'm going to watch this video. Then, no doubt, I'll doze right off. And ... probably have nightmares about being overrun by yellowjackets. D'oh!!

First time visitor to your channel and I really did enjoy this video; however, I hope you don’t take this question negatively, but it sounds like you are whispering or intentionally trying to keep your voice down, sort of like if your wife was sleeping in the next room and didn’t want to wake her or something? Is there a reason for the hushed voice or am I a dummy for not understanding that it’s simply the way you normally speak all the time? Thanks in advance for your reply, and I would like to enjoy more future videos from you. Request: excuse my ignorance if you already do this or have recently addressed this, but I would very much like to see some yellow jacket pest control videos. I would love to see a nest removal and kill. Most people are ok with that since they make no honey, attack honeybee nests, usually have an excessive population and are well known for having a particularly unpleasant disposition quite often resulting in getting stung simply because you walked past a garbage can and stirred up a small swarm of them during feeding. I recently saw this yellow jacket pest control video where they used a non-toxic (to humans) called DRIONE. The stuff is amazing! It sticks to the hornets and is a ultra fine dust you simply blow into their nest entrance as deep as possible. Within 24 hours they should all be dead. Because DRIONE is safe for the environment it’s quite literally much better than spray chemicals and poison right? DRIONE is actually a kind of dessicant. How it works is like this: it sticks to the outer carapace of the pest where it gets into the joints and nooks and crannies commonly found on outer insect carapaces. From there it begins to suck the moisture out of the insect. This causes the insect to become dehydrated very quickly and ultimately die. I find it’s much less safer to use around the house since dangerous bug spray chemicals won’t be leaking into the water table. I always worry about inhaling trace particles of bug spray chemicals so I guess it would be the same for this, except DRIONE isn’t poison ☠️. Almost immediately it begins to work, but really they say to wait 24 hours for the insects to naturally spread the dust particles around the insides of their own nests to expose the entire colony. So back to my original request! Can you make a yellow jacket nest removal and extermination video? If the answer is YES, would you consider trying to do the job using DRIONE instead of whatever method and chemicals you are using now? Even if you don’t use chemicals with your current extermination method, would you consider trying DRIONE out for this one special video, sort of like a test run to evaluate the product and it’s usefulness? No I don’t work for whoever makes DRIONE, I just saw it being used in another video and thought that it was an amazing product that was particularly effective. Thanks in advance for your reply and for considering my request!
I've never heard of Drione, but I'll certrainly look into it. Sounds somewhat like Diatomaceous Earth.. which is something I use with poultry. Thanks for the suggestion and information, as for the way I speak? Sorry, that's pretty much the way I talk all the time :)
Even if you are a beekeeper, having wasps around is an extraordinary benefit for natural pest control and keep lots of insecticides out of agriculture... IF people can put their faith in natural controls.
Why would you turn 'em loose? The ONLY benefit to this world that I'VE seen for them is the entertainment value as my neighbor's little dog EATS the stupid things. She'll catch 'em in mid-air and chow 'em down until her mouth is all swelled up,then she drinks some water and lies down for an hour or so,the swelling goes down, and she's on the hunt again. Never seen anything like it before.....
Hi James, the pest control benefits of wasps literally keeps "tons" of pesticides out of agriculture practices. They do lots of good that most people are unaware of. They feed on countless insect pests... I've seen them clean out an entire tent-caterpillar nest. More than they seem. Most encounters with people are negative, so the idea of killing them is the first thought.
Frederick Dunn very true! Where did you get that trap by the way? I see you have a video about paper wasps. I have a nest in my attic that are coming into the house now and then. Would be great to know how to get rid of them without spraying that high pressure Raid in my attic.
@@bhud1972 I just walk up to them at night with a gallon sized zip bag and use a putty knife to scrape them off the wood and into the bag. You'll need protective clothing for that. I recommend having a Natural Apiary pull-on smock. :)
Why wouldn't you want to kill them? Some of the little "buggers" stung me the last two weekends when I mowed the lawn. I just wish I knew how to kill them. I've sprayed eight bottles of hornet spray in one calendar week... but they apparently LOVE the stuff!

After the wasps are in the freezer, thaw them out in a fire
all options are open
I really think you have too much time on your hands. LOL
I wish! I have so many ideas and only so much time available.
I cant find a bug zooka
There's a link in the video description.
Or instead of putting them in the freezer for 7 minutes you could put them in the microwave for 20 seconds.
all options are on the table. Hot tap water ends them immediately
Fight them all
AKA: The hongkong grenade.
Diy wasp grenade. 🙈
.
Thank you but. Guess I'd have to rid them of my hive location!
$99.00 for this device?
It's $49.99 on Amazon
@@FrederickDunn You're right. I was looking at a two pack. Thanks.
It’s up to you? If it were up to me, I would drop that trap in a 5 gallon bucket of water overnight. Done!
Orrr just run them under hot tap water and done in an instant.
Very dangerous, eliminate these killers.
*in grocery store or something* RELEASE THE YELLOW JACKETS
don't
Can I put them in my neighbors car? 😈
That's such a nice gift... you are thoughtful.
Squish
This made me uncomfy
Murder was the case that i gave them
ok
in the south we capture the wasps & then deep fry them.....
You can have MY share....
Glad they aren't going to waste :)
Drop them in a lake and let the fish eat them
My fish would definitely eat them... it's what I do with Japanese Beetles
Yellow jackets are wasp
That's true Andy
I know
ok
Thanks Andy!
Back in the freezer
all options are open :)
What if you just want to look at them?!?!?!?! Eff that!
I will cut the end butts and let them fly.
You don't have to "cut" the ends, just open it up and they are free. All options are up to you.
Wasps are pretty cool. I don't believe they deserve the axe.
Fix up some soapy water and pour on top of them that will kill him.
that would work
Why wouldn't you want to kill them? Some of the little "buggers" stung me the last two weekends when I mowed the lawn. I just wish I knew how to kill them. I've sprayed eight bottles of hornet spray in one calendar week... but they apparently LOVE the stuff!
.
Hate wasps eeeeek
Dawn dish soap and water will make those wasps die
Up to me,,, lol, burn em
you have lots of choices.
never release them wtf. They are horrible.
I don't make decisions for others and I don't tell people what to do. All options are on the table and you can do with them what you will.
Wasps are ugly and stoopid i hate those
Lots of people feel that way.
