      YESSSS! Congrats!! I purchased my land as well. Did the survey, spoke with the neighbors, got a clean title, and paid my taxes last year ($270). It’s low since there isn’t anything on the property (as yet)! Congrats again!!!

    I’m in a different part of the country and many years older and am blessed to be in my forever house
    BUT
    found your story in a link from a NYT article - your excitement and how well you are describing everything is infectious! I’m all in for the side car ride on your home building journey!

      Oh… I didn’t notice this was 3 years ago…. Now I see an update on the channel from 3 weeks ago with the finished house. Hoped we’d see interim videos, but maybe too much for you to do?

    do you worry about wildfire? That's what I worry about on our 20 acres and the house we built 30 years ago. We've learned to prune the dead out of any trees and limb them up so branches are well away from the ground. We had to dig a well, install septic, and bring in electricity 1/4 mile ourselves. But it's worth it to be off the beaten path!

      I'm glad you guys have done so much work to protect your property! I agree, being off the beaten path is worth it! No, wildfires aren't really an issue for us in Charleston, SC. But, hurricanes are an issue so we've cut down a lot of trees that could potentially fall near/on our home.

    Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Evening! Thank you for sharing this!!! Love the land and the energy. I purchased a piece of land and it’s 0.93 acres. I am praying to build my own custom house. It was 4450 square feet but I decided to go smaller. We are going to try and build 3500 sq feet. It’s going to be so exciting and I will document my entire process as well. May God cover you both! I subscribed so I won’t miss anything.

    Beautiful property! Were you able to check for potential hidden fees like unpaid property taxes/ and or deed restrictions in your county search? Also, will you be drilling well? This is a residential property so maybe not lol. I've been doing research on land for when I finally decide to go tiny lol.

      Hey girl! Thank you! We had a lawyer do a title search to make sure the deed was clean. If the deed wasn’t clean, any costs to remove leins on the property would have been deducted from the seller’s proceeds in order for us to close with a clean deed. There were some unpaid taxes, which were deducted from the money we paid the seller. Yes we will be drilling a well, which will be expensive up front but at least we will never have a water bill again lol. Luckily, we won’t have to get a septic tank!

    Ended up here from an article in NYT, where it mentioned no builders would return your calls. Why?

    • @NiaLewis
      @NiaLewis  2 года назад

      We found that most builders were generally hard to get in contact with. Maybe they were busy with work for their clients? The builder we're using has excellent communication, and that's one of the reasons why we hired him!
