The last scene between Siddique & Anaswara may be illogical or not.. but the level of villainism created by Siddique at that scene is really phenomenal.
I think it's not illogical. They have to create a stressful situation like what she had undergone when she got raped. Because the defence side was always arguing that a victim cannot think about the culprit during such situations

Junior advocate ന്റെ കാര്യം സിനിമ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്കും തോന്നിയിരുന്നു. ആ character ശരിക്കും ഒരു കല്ലുകടി ആയിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ക്ലൈമാക്സില്‍ സിദ്ദിഖ് വരുന്ന രംഗം brilliant ആണെന്നാണ് എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയത്. Rape നടക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് എല്ലാ disturbances ഇടയിലും ആ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി എങ്ങനെയാണ് പ്രതിയുടെ മുഖം മനസ്സിലാക്കിയത് എന്ന് clear ആയി കാണിച്ചുതരുന്നു. ക്ലൈമാക്സിൽ സിദ്ദിഖ് വളരെയധികം mentally torture ചെയ്തിട്ടും എല്ലാം അതിജീവിച്ചു അയാളുടെ മുഖം sculpture ചെയ്യുന്നത് ശരിക്കും original situation recreate ചെയ്തത് പോലെയാണ് എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയത്
പക്ഷെ കോടതി അറിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ട് അങ്ങനെ ഒരു situation ഉണ്ടാക്കി ആ കുട്ടിക്ക് ഒരു trauma കൂടെ കൊടുക്കാൻ സമ്മതിക്കും എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നുണ്ടോ? അപ്പോ അത് സിനിമയിൽ, കോടതി അറിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നതല്ല.
Sculpture ചെയ്യാനുള്ള ആളെ select ചെയ്യാനുള്ള അവകാശം കോടതി പ്രതിഭാഗത്തിന് നല്‍കിയിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ സിദ്ധിഖിന്റെ character ആ situation നിലും ആ പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയെ torture ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് കോടതി പോലും പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ലല്ലോ

The sculpture unveiling scene was a classic example of the latter. Reactions from Priya mani (shock), Mohanlal (victorious relief), Jagadeesh (sudden jump and the proud hug), Ganesh (surprise out of admiration), Villain (moonji), Siddique (a mix of surprise, disappointment and admiration) and those unwavered eyes of Anaswara enhanced the impact of the scene.

ദൃശ്യം സിനിമ യെ കുറിച്ച് നിങ്ങളുടെ വിമർശനം വളരെ ബാലിശമായി തോന്നി.ദൃശ്യത്തിലെ പെൺകുട്ടി യുടെ കഥാപാത്രം ഇത്ര bold അല്ല. നേരില് അനശ്വര യുടെ കഥാപാത്രം നല്ല bold ആണ്.അത് മനസ്സിലാക്കൂ, എല്ലാ പെൺകുട്ടി കളും മാതാ പിതാക്കളും ഒരു പോലെ പ്രതികരിക്കാൻ വഴി ഇല്ലല്ലോ.
മോഹൻലാലിന്റെ അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് ആയി വരുന്ന ആ പെൺകുട്ടി ശരിക്കും ഒരു unusual character ആയിട്ട് തോന്നി. പിന്നെയാണ് അറിഞ്ഞത് അവൾ സിനിമയുടെ എഡിറ്ററെ wife ആണെന്ന് 😂
Can't agree with your very first point. The primary objective of a film is to tell the story. In the case of drishyam, the people, their background, their society forced them to be like that. Since humans are different, the way they face an issue varies. Purely subjective. In the case of neru, it's different. Can't blame the director. Rather we should appreciate him for setting up drishyam in such a way that, 'this could happen' scenario.

I agree with you. When people go through terrible events like rape, it affects their personality. It's very common for rape survivors to get PTSD. Not all people can let it go or be strong at that time. Kudos to the ones who can do that. But expecting everyone to be bold and strong at such a terrible time is pretty toxic. What they need is empathy and support and not this toxic positivity.
in drishyam, she was not raped, she was blackmailed. The girl did the right thing, let her mother know. How mother decided to handle the situation was pathetic and highly unrealistic for a mother regardless of whatsoever her background is. The problem there is not how they reacted after the boy was killed, but how the mother dealt with the blackmail.

Truly agree. The worst sort of a review is when someone tells that the story should have been another way. the characters are not from a politically correct world. Nor should the director have a particular ideology. The same reviever said that Breaking bad is great. Just remember how in that the protagonist - being a villain is still having ‘mass scenes’. the director definitely sided with the villain and glorifies the villain. But when the same is done in malayalam, you want it to be collect ideologically.

Films are not for messages. Their first purpose should be entertainment. A good film, whether it gives a message or not, will be a good one. Neru is an excellent movie considering the performance of the actors, but it is an average one by its making. Overall, it is an above average film with 7/10 rating 💯💯💯

വളരെ അസംബന്ധമായി തോന്നിയ വേറെയും സീനുകളുണ്ട്. അതിലൊന്ന് സിദ്ദിഖിൻ്റ കഥാപാത്രം ആ സിസി ടിവിക്കാരൻ്റെ അടുത്ത നേരിട്ട് ചെന്ന് ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ മാറ്റാൻ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതാണ്. അത്രയും എക്സ്പീരിയൻസ്ഡ് ആയ ഒരു വക്കീൽ ഒരിക്കലും കാണിക്കാത്ത മണ്ടത്തരമാണത്. മറ്റൊന്ന് കേസ് ഇത്രയും കോളിളക്കത്തിൽ നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ സ്വന്തം ഫോൺ ഡ്രൈവറുടെ കയ്യിൽ കൊടുത്തു വിട്ടു അതിബുദ്ധി കാണിച്ച വില്ലൻ കഥാപാത്രം ഇരയുടെ വീട്ടിൽ നേരിട്ട് എത്തി ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. അവിടെ ഒരു സിസിടിവി വെക്കാനുള്ള ബ്രില്യൻസ് മോഹൻലാലിൻറെ കഥാപാത്രം കാണിച്ചതുമില്ല.
But this film is an average one by story and making wise. But it became a blockbuster and collected 100Cr because of that one factor. If Mohanlal was not there, this film would not even be collected 1/4 of its current box office collection. A main actor who can pull off a mass audience is required for a film to be a huge success. Even though it is a story from the perspective of Anaswara's character, Mohanlal was the central part of this movie, mainly expressing his past experiences with the villain

Loved the way you started the video❣️ Coming to Neru, I really liked the way Jeethu localized Hands that See. Just like you said, it's difficult to convert an English movie into Malyalam in such a way that nothing feels strange in the context of Kerala. Appreciate that effort. I felt like Mohanlal handled the character in the 'right' way. Nothing more, nothing less. One of the best parts of the movie is of course the excellent performance by Anaswara. Even though Siddhique is known for his villain role, I could see a different version of villianism shown by him in Neru. What I felt like mismatches/could have improved are: 1) The characterization of the villain, I felt something wrong in the way in which the character was developed. I haven't watched Hands that See yet, but after listening to you, if the character was like a serial killer it'd have been more appealing. 2) The acting of Mohanlal's assistant - I felt it was artificial in most of the portions, even the dialogue delivery. 3) Some scenes/portions which were extremely dramatic. 4) Lags in between - For example, the scenes in which Anaswara's character is making the sculpture at court. But, overall it was a really good film. Especially I loved the scene in which Anaswara understood Mohanlal's face that could be read as a token of gratitude or love and the climax where she removes the mask from her face and walk out in front of the media people.

Reactions from Priya mani (shock), Mohanlal (victorious relief), Jagadeesh (sudden jump and the proud hug), Ganesh (surprise out of admiration), Villain (moonji), Siddique (a mix of surprise, disappointment and admiration) and those unwavered eyes of Anaswara enhanced the impact of the scene.

Since humans are different, the way they face an issue varies. Purely subjective. In the case of neru, it's different. Can't blame the director. Rather we should appreciate him for setting up drishyam in such a way that, 'this could happen' scenario.

The central character is not Mohan l al. It's Anaswara.
But this film is an average one by story and making wise. But it became a blockbuster and collected 100Cr because of that one factor. If Mohanlal was not there, this film would not even be collected 1/4 of its current box office collection. A main actor who can pull off a mass audience is required for a film to be a huge success. Even though it is a story from the perspective of Anaswara's character, Mohanlal was the central part of this movie, mainly expressing his past experiences with the villain

It is true. It's more noticeable in Lalettan's interviews. Most probably the botox treatment for Odiyan backfired and he was left with a lopsided right cheek and upper lip. If you pay close attention to his mouth, it becomes clearer. Hence we get the bearded lalettan in every movie.

Coming to Neru, I really liked the way Jeethu localized Hands that See. Just like you said, it's difficult to convert an English movie into Malyalam in such a way that nothing feels strange in the context of Kerala. Appreciate that effort. I felt like Mohanlal handled the character in the 'right' way. Nothing more, nothing less. One of the best parts of the movie is of course the excellent performance by Anaswara. Even though Siddhique is known for his villain role, I could see a different version of villianism shown by him in Neru.
What I felt like mismatches/could have improved are:
1) The characterization of the villain, I felt something wrong in the way in which the character was developed. I haven't watched Hands that See yet, but after listening to you, if the character was like a serial killer it'd have been more appealing.
2) The acting of Mohanlal's assistant - I felt it was artificial in most of the portions, even the dialogue delivery.
3) Some scenes/portions which were extremely dramatic.
4) Lags in between - For example, the scenes in which Anaswara's character is making the sculpture at court.
But, overall it was a really good film. Especially I loved the scene in which Anaswara understood Mohanlal's face that could be read as a token of gratitude or love and the climax where she removes the mask from her face and walk out in front of the media people.
