- First off WALES is not in England. Got it! Moving on. This episode is 21 years in the making. I first visited the main locations in 2002 and have been back several times since then. Back in 2009 my good friend Paul Davis was working on the documentary Beware the Moon and had asked me to do an HHG episode as a bonus feature for the DVD release. Unfortunately the timing was bad and it being overseas was a massive project I couldn't get together on short notice. Instead he incorporated several of the actual locations into his documentary. All these years later we finally get together and do a proper dedicated location video for An American Werewolf In London and he joins me for the bulk of it. This one was a monster (pun intended) of an episode to put together. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm thrilled! I wasn't expecting this video. "An American Werewolf in London" is my all-time favorite horror film, and it's the first one I watched with my dad when I was little. This movie holds significant meaning in my life because it brings back wonderful memories and happens to be my dad's favorite too. I still recall the first time I watched it on DVD at home with him, and I'll never forget the terror I felt during the transformation scene from David to the werewolf. That's when my passion for horror cinema began. Even now, it gives me chills when I watch it.
"Bad Moon Rising," one of the movie's musical tracks, became our special song. My dad is a huge fan of Creedence (another reason to love the film), and together we'd listen to that song repeatedly, creating delightful moments. I'm currently 24 years old, and I dream of visiting the filming locations someday with my dad. It's a dream I truly want to fulfill with him.
Greetings from Mexico! 🇲🇽 and thanks for the awesome content on your channel! ❤️
Absolutely true ! This Movie is a Masterpiece. I love every scene.
YOUR DAD LET YOU WATCH AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD! THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO WATCH IT WHEN I WAS A KID! BUT,THEN AGAIN I WAS 10 WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT IN THE CINEMA! AND I WAS 15 WHEN IT FIRST PREMIERED ON BRITISH TELEVISION AND MY COUSIN VIDEO TAPED IT! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT TO! IT IS AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC BRITISH/AMERICAN MOVIE WITH A GREAT BRITISH CAST! (OK AND AMERICAN) WITH DAVID HOUGHTON AND GRIFFIN DUNNE I BELIEVE HIS NAME IS! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT THEN AND ALWAYS WILL! YOUR DAD SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT GUY! WITH GREAT TASTE IN CINEMA!❤
40 years later and this movie still holds up as one of the best werewolf transformation scenes in cinema 🖤🌕🍿📽️📼📺
Blue moooon " OH JESUS CHRIST" Gets me every time
Yes. There was so much talk and hype about it at the time. When I saw it first I was scared and shocked. A few years later I started to feel a bit let down about it and short changed. I was a bit older and less scared by tv and film then. They seemed to put so much into the transformation and it was incredible for the time. Then you never see much of the wolf afterwards. And the attacks are always cut away from, and less is shown than what you would expect of the film and subject matter and certainly compared to horror films today. So I started to think it felt a bit of a let down towards the second half, never living up to or topping that transformation scene from that part of the film onwards. The ending as well, always seems a bit abrupt. Its a great film with loads of atmosphere and scares and jumps and an utter classic and for good reason. But it always left me wanting to see more, and some more wolf action....limits of the budget and technology of the time I suppose.....
@@Simon-xc5oy Precisely those things that you feel were its short falls were what made it great. The transformation scene has never been equaled imo because modern ones are fake looking cgi animations that are totally unconvincing, or like in the movies that followed AWIL they show too much of the wolf costume giving an aura of fake.
The key is to show little bits and let the imagination fill in the gaps which the movie achieved perfectly which mirrored the same techniques used in Alien to make that monster so convincing.
Yes, true. I suppose I was and am greedy. I wanted to see a bit more of the wolf and the film to run a bit longer. The transformation scene is great. But most of the deaths etc after that are cut short or censored. Like the tube train one, its a great build up, you see the wolf for a few seconds then its from his camera viewpoint to the end. I sort of expected more blood or horror and I am not that much of a horror fan. It just often seems like they concentrate too much on some gore like the zombies and stabbing of Jenny's Nurse, then skip over other bits that you would expect to see. Sort of like Alien where you seen nothing much till the end, or Jaws where you dont see the shark much till the end. What does annoy me is the abrupt ending. I expected the wolf to get away from the Piccadilly incident with ease, then everyone to spend more time hunting him down, with a confrontation between him the Doctor and Jenny when he is still in human form, before more carnage. It just seems to end very fast like an axe blow. But that is just me, being greedy as I say and wanting more. Its a classic film and head and shoulders over anything they make today...
You can't buy it on yt, anymore, only rent, they know a good film when they see it.
😂
This was a great video and I enjoyed it. Here’s an education from a Scandinavian girl for those that don’t know. Wales is in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom comprises of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so saying that Wales is in England is technically wrong, but I know what he’s getting at. That aside, it’s great to see the filming locations, I appreciate the video and I enjoyed it and I guess that’s all that really matters. Well done!
Hands down, THE best American Werewolf location video.
This was fun to do and turned out great. Thanks for inviting me to be a part of it. 🤘🏻
Wales, England? 😂 That reminds me. I must go to America in Mexico. Excellent to watch and the best i have seen on the locations. Thank you.
Don’t be ridiculous. Wales could easily be mistaken as part of England and even English people don’t think of it as another country. I’ve lived in the UK all my life and I don’t think of Wales as another country. Saying it’s on par with America and Mexico is ridiculous.
Don't forget Washinton D.C. in Canada, or North Korea in Pennsylvania. I do like that part of Abergavenny, though. It's amazing to ride through. Just south of the Black Mountains...... IN F%^KING WALES!!!
@@welshwarrior5263 Wales was incorporated with England in the reign of Henry VIII.

I'm 8 minutes in, and the joy that you and your buddies had making this vid is so evident. This is well on its way to being one of your best uploads. Thank you so much for putting the effort in on this one 👍
3:12 "It's a beautiful day, we didn't get rained on, which is shocking in England".
You're in Wales, mate.
It all felt British to this dumb American. The important part is that I’m standing in the right place. I can live with getting a name wrong.
Wales IS British. But it's NOT part of England. Why is this so hard to understand? And you are making videos to share with people, so maybe getting the locations right is important.
You think??
@@aranbuzzas8000chill out
@@aranbuzzas8000 Well said. Getting a name wrong is one thing. But getting an entire country wrong? Wales is actually a country with its own flag. Of course, it's part of the United Kingdom, but confusing Wales & England would be like confusing United States & Canada.

Nice, as someone who lives in Wales, England I have to admit I really do enjoy a trip to Canada, America once in a while.
Sean. That was amazing. Talk about dedication and commitment. What I just saw was obviously no easy feat. So so interesting. Thank you 🙏. And your followers in the U. K love you.🇬🇧🇺🇸
This was excellent and so well done.
I always thought that it was filmed in part in Yorkshire!
By the way Wales is Wales.
Please don’t take that as a criticism.
My children have never forgotten how I allowed
Them to see this film, traumatised forever!
The locations were so interesting and informative.
My claim to fame unfortunately
Was going to a male strip club with the girls

He was the one in the picture house that Jack was in.
Best wishes from England, really enjoyed this.
Hes lucky some mad taff dint hear him say "Wales England" or he would never have got out alive. I think the signage is a clue it has 2 different languages he he, easy mistake for an American to make tho, they notoriously bad at geography.
@@sihop9220 there's really no excuse for getting that wrong. I mean, doesn't he look at maps when he's researching these videos???
This is the best locations vid I've seen so far of this movie. Two random little points, at 34:30, Paul is right you can't use Pro gear at famous landmarks in London, but nobody stops to think why is there added concern when pro gear is used!? If I was up to no good, I would be as inconspicuous as possible and NOT use pro gear and just act the tourist. Also, the entire world is on Google Maps in high def so what's the deal? Second point, Linzi Drew (Brenda Bristols) is the mother of Tyger Drew-Honey of Outnumbered fame, whose dad is Ben Dover (!) also an English porn star.
Wales, England!😂 That's like saying America, Canada! The Welsh people won't be happy.
Wales, England.....Surely, only an American would say that. : )
Wales England is a bit like saying Canada USA. They may be close but two separate countries. 👍
I remember watching this Late 80s And was mine and my father's favorite horror movie. It was rare to share a moment with my dad where we would laugh together every time, The scene in the zoo with the little English boy in his school uniform " A naked American man stole my balloon" Cracked us up every time! Good memories! Thank you for making this video and others.
As a native of London, with many generations of my family being born, living, and dieing in London over the centuries, it saddens me that the dirty grimey parts of the 'city of London' are all but gone.
Excellent video. Actually, "Wales, England" sounds like something David would say in the movie, so for me it fits. 👍
One of your best videos yet Sean. It's surprising how much hasn't changed a great deal.
Most out of the way villages In the uk don't change, the village I grew up In that Is In yorkshire Is still the same like It Is out of time.
I think in general, we're not as obsessed with redoing and changing stuff so often in Europe.
@@gocsa Yep so true, why fix something that Isn't broken
What is shocking to me is as an Englishman and living in England just how much London has changed over the years. From my era growing up watching Doctor Who, Blue Peter, The Goodies etc there are a number of things that jump out at you straight away. When watching an old show or film from the 50s / 60s and 70s compared to London of 2023. The first is the amount of litter. There used to be very little, but all the fast food changed that. The second is the amount of people. Far too many people and over crowded now. The third is the amount of tourists, it never used to be such a big thing. And the last is the loss and erosion of the British identity. In that decades ago there were more red phone boxes, post boxes, royal coats of arms, British companies like the GPO (General Post Office) and Ever Ready Batteries etc and British made cars. Now every business is foreign owned, every car is an import or foreign made / owned and its all sold off to private enterprise / big businesses and just how many of those names have either gone entirely or changed beyond belief. The shots of Piccadilly Circus with the Sanyo signs and SKOL Lager back before Beer advertising was banned too....
@@Simon-xc5oy Since youre British and seemed to live through this era I have to ask; were there seriously porno theaters (and advertising for their films) just hanging right out on busy public streets? You can see the posters in the tube chase scene too. Im not prudish about that stuff at all, but those scenes have always been a culture shock for me as an American. If it was real there wasnt a worry about children seeing it or just incredibly progressive about it? Pornos and titties etc on display right there in a public square. The late 70s/early 80s mustve been a pretty wild time.
you do realize that Wales is not in England, and Wales is a whole other country, apart from that great video
Wales isn't in England or even part of England, it's a separate country altogether....
Wales is its own country its not England. Wales was supposed to be the Yorkshire moors for this film as it has similar terrain.
As a Welsh person it does not surprise me that an American thinks Wales is in England... but it hurts coming from you Sean 😢
😂😂😂
You should go to America; Canada and have it out with him.
If I ever meet you in person I promise you a hug.
@@malfuncsean😊 You're welcome back in Wales anytime Sean!
Most Americans think London is the whole of the uk , so it’s an improvement I guess 😂
The Welsh will be mightily offended hearing you call Wales part of England
damn imagine living in the actual freaking house of the slaughtered lamb
I'm very curious as to how many movie buffs pay this place a visit. I guess it's a challenge to get to.
Wales, England? Where are you from - America, Canada? 🤣
Its not Wales, England! Wales is a country, England is a country! Is the US in Canada? You could have said Wales in the UK (United Kingdom which is England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and....Wales!) but not Wales in England. Never say is Wales or Scotland part of England unless you want to risk a kicking (and i`m only very slightly joking!)
Chill out
Great work. I wonder if the red telephone box shown at 5:24 was covered to resemble a tree in the film (5:26) ? Perhaps they thought the phone box detracted from the isolation and remoteness of the small rural village.
Great video but a bit of 'Country" research would've done you a favour!
Wales is Wales.. England is England.. Scotland is Scotland.. All seperate countries 👍🏻
🏴🏴🏴
When are you visiting Canada, USA?
"Wales, England" lol epic trolling of an entire nation.😅
Wales, England!!!! 😂
Mate....Wales is a different country 😂
You should have said "Wales, UNITED KINGDOM" 😂
If the Welsh know that you've said that their country is in "England" they'll come at you with pitch forks and Sheep 😅
When my mom purchased our first VCR this is the first movie that we watched on it. This was really well done.
Great Vid, as always, but Wales is not in England. Its its own country within the UK like Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Apart from that Geography lesson lol, this is one of my favorite movies and loved this vid
By far the best Horror Locations visit you've ever done. Always wanted to visit these Locations. Wow. Incredible work, sir! Kudos. And beware the moon!
Keep to the path stay clear of the moors
So far so good! Can’t wait til I show up as the werewolf!
As "American Werewolf" is my favourite film of all time EVER, watching this was pure bliss... I've not had the chance to go visit Crickadarn, but would love to someday. Saying that, being Welsh and having lived in Wales all my life, saying it's in England is like saying Canada, USA. I am, however, prepared to forgive you on this 😉 but only because you're such a cool guy and I love watching your HHG series so much... Impressive how you can p*ss a whole country of 3 million people off in a one second though! 😆
WOW how Super COOL is this Video & your friends in this are very funny & good! You all did a great job honestly I love the film & I love this all the Best from Sheffield England 👍👊
Great up load again Sean, I knew part of the film was shot in Wales 🏴 but wasn’t sure where. Also a link with the Young Ones, Rik Mayall, playing chess in the Slaughtered Lamb!
Great video Sean! This film scared the heck out of me - i was 12 in 1981 and our neighbor's had a video player and we were invited down to watch it. Me my dad, mom and sister who was 10. AWIL sure packed a punch - i watched peering through my fingers at many scenes - then we had to walk home about 1km ( under the light of the full moon) aahh memories! Keep up the excellent videos!
Mention of the sequel causing him to flee in terrror was the cherry on top. 👍
Wales isn't part of England. It's a separate country with a big rivalry with England. They'll get pissed if you call them English!
That call sheet show John Altman, AKA Nick Cotton from Eastenders, who i’ve never noticed in the film - and i’ve seen it hundreds of times.
Wales England 😂😂😂😂😂
I love my siblings, but Wales is the UK not England.
Great vid Sean, but saying Wales, England is like saying, Canada, America they are different countries...
American werewolf in london is the only movie that i shit my pants at. I still have trouble rewatching it.
Great video, Sean! The Slaughtered Lamb, where the great Rik Mayall was having a Pint.
Wales, England 👍
It’s surprising how little many of the locations have changed over the years. The ivy on the gravestone even looked the same.
Wales is it's own country Sean, it's not England.
Great video though.
Is definitely a classic but remember Vamp 1986 filming locations we are still waiting.
Wales is part of the UK 🇬🇧 as is England Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Wales, England. Interesting
Oh come on, why go to all this bother and not recreate the balloon scene as it should be done. I am sure they would have been understanding once you explained the story to them at the Police station.

Looks like this has been covered but ‘Wales, England’ is like ‘America, Canada’….. 😂. That said, great content. I’ve just returned from a West Coast Cali trip and ticked off a good few movie locations. Really enjoy your content and motivates me to seek out more locations.
Wales, England? Walk up to a Welsh person and say that. During a full moon.
Sean great video ... but wales is not in england .... its a country . Wales was used to double as the yorkshire dales as was nearer to london
The scene next to Tower Bridge is now an office block that was occupied by the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London. They've moved out now. The woman that talks to the balloon boy was my kid's teacher.
Such a fantastic episode! I had to laugh. I was in Piccadilly Square, and totally forgot about this film. I too, went shopping at that three-story tower records that sadly is no longer there. And I remember being in the subway and going up those escalators and looking at all the framed Movie ads on the wall. I sure wish I would’ve thought about American werewolf in London when I was there. Anyway, another fantastic episode. Looking forward to the next one. Your friend Paul Davis really knows his stuff too.
What a great video! Well done! One of my favourite films.
It is. We own it.
I actually checked on internet to see if there was a Wales in England because I never heard of it

Wonderful and amazing to see them and now. I’ve been to Wales and never knew it was filmed there…been to London as well and really took in the sights and locations for this movie. Very well done 👍🏻 I want to go back to England so bad, it’s my favorite 🤩
Hey SEAN as a fellow YOUNG ONES fan you must have noticed RIK MAYALL in the slaughtered lamb scene
Should have done European Vacation while you were there.

Awesome!!!! Wales is in the UK btw...next to England....you were in Wales....not England, separate countries :)
Bravo! As a kid this movie left a imprint in my brain how a horror movie should be, And very few have touched this one! If only Landis didn't have the twilight zone incident he might have made more classics on his resume😊
Snap this was seriously special when I was young
Fair play bud for flying thousands of miles. I dont live too far from these locations, beautiful part of the world. Amazing film, adore the cinematography. Great work. If you ever do The Wicker Man (Scotland) I'll buy you dinner and a few pints.
David is still alive because the police didn’t use a Silver Bullet.

OMG, A F***ing mazing. Loved every second of that. The scene in Piccadilly is my favourite scene of any movie. Thank you for the great memories xx
The Ignorance of Americans who think England is the UK and the UK is England. Its like saying, America in Canada!
My American accent was spot on right?
The newsstand location by Putney Bridge is close to Bishop's Park where Patrick Troughton is skewered by the spire in The Omen... I hope you had a chance to check that out at the same time?
I didn’t that time but I went there years ago.
Best RUclips video I've seen in ages.
I love the effort you both put in.
Seeing the original locations (love the village with The Slaughtered Lamb) and hearing about the work that went into the movie was eye-opening.
When I first saw it at the pictures in 1982 it blew me away.
I remember I nearly didn't go as the newspaper advert (no internet of course) read 'the funniest horror movie you'll ever see' (or along those lines), and I wanted horror only!
Landis pulled it off so well though.
It was unique. It received the first ever Oscar for makeup. Even the end credits rolling (accompanied by the fast version of Blue Moon) were different - "Any resemblance to persons living, dead or undead is purely co-incidental" to paraphrase.
Seems like yesterday.
Thanks for taking me back 40 years.

Excellent! I appreciate all the hard work and dedication, Kind Sir! 👏👏👏
"Wales, England" You do know that Wales and England are two seperate countries don't you ?
I heard that somewhere.
Interesting fact, the Clink Street alley was also used as a location several years before An American Werewolf in London by the BBC TV show Doctor Who, as a Victorian London street in the story The Talons of Weng-Chiang. The Doctor’s TARDIS actually landed mere metres from where the police would later confront the Kessler wolf.
Yes, lots of places in London like that were used all over in so many shows and films. I was very upset when the TV center went and I dont live in London or anywhere near. Its just it was so iconic, back when the BBC used to make great entertainment like Doctor Who, Monty Python, Black Adder, Swap Shop and proper childrens tv, The Goodies etc. The outside of the place and the locations around it became as famous as it was due to the sheer amount of productions made there since the very start of television in the UK. London is a filthy over crowded dump now, I was so shocked at the litter and grime and mess when I last visited back in 2002. I have never been back and doubt I ever will. I was there for the premier of Attack of the Clones from Star Wars and went to a lot of locations I had seen growing up, Westminster Bridge from the Dalek Invasion of Earth, Post Office Tower (Doctor Who and the Goodies) the M.I.6 building from the Brosnan era Bonds etc.....and litter everywhere, ankle deep in Kings cross station and some of the tube stations, just dirt, grime and overcrowding with lots of short tempered and angry people pushing and shoving to get anywhere. And it will be even worse now.....
Been waiting for this one . As an Essex chap living just outside of London, a massive fan of this film and big fan of your content it's an excellent mix. I've visited many locations myself and always imagine the destruction every time I'm in Piccadilly! 🚓🚗🚨💥💥🐶💀💀💀💀 If they'd only stuck to the fkin road already! 🤦🏻
Trivia : In the finale where the Werewolf is cornered and the location of the false wall in the alley was the landing spot of the Tardis in the episode of the Tom Baker story "The Talons of Weng-Chiang"
THIS is the one I've been waiting for... 😍💖
