Tauren Wells - Why Image is Overrated

I've been learning that image is wildly overrated, that it's really easy to portray a project who we want people to like versus who we really are.
I've realized that the one who has all of the information on me has nothing but love for me. And that's a really beautiful place to be. It's a place of rest because I no longer have to perform to portray or project an image because the reality is Jesus didn't die for my image. He died for who I really am.
This quote that struck me very deeply by Timothy Keller, he said, "To be love but not known is comforting, but it's superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is what it means to be loved by God." And that gives me great hope.
God wants us to be truly free. And that's not just free from people's opinions. You know, that's like the mantra of the age. I don't care what you think about me. That's actually a wall. It's a wall called apathy to say, I don't care what you think about me, you actually care so much about what I think about you, that you actually guard yourself so I can't see who you really are. And that's the place that God wants to call us out of, because superficiality is a terrible prison.
