this might turn into a book, but I have 3 things… #1 I am saving all of my fingering weight scraps for a giant granny square blanket with the very bits of yarn starting in the middle and gradually getting longer as I go, using the Russian Join method to attach; #2 After knitting colorwork with both hands for years, I now find my tension is much better using just my dominant hand; #3 I dyed two wool sweaters (separately) before using a 5-gallon bucket and stirring very slowly, no patches or felting. Maybe some of this sparks an idea for you two. Happy Knitting and Crochet!
What a wonderful episode ladies! I loved every project from both of Tracy's cowls and socks to Kirsty's socks, hat and scarves 🥰 My suggestion to Kirsty regarding her Metamorphic is to not overdye it, but make a neutral (aka solid or heathered) scarf or cowl to wear over the top of the sweater. You can keep the lovely colors from your handspun, but have a different color near your face that doesn't wash you out. Maybe a pink (even a neon!) that picks up the color from the handspun, or the green that you were thinking of overdying. Happy knitting!
You are both so amazing !!!! Love ,love everything ,,,,Always inspiring,,!!! Sweet dog heads,,, That sock ,,kristy,,,!!! Intarsia!!! And hot water bottle ,,,Tracy,,,,neon scarf and socks,,, Everything ,,, Elaine 🏡😍💖
Thank you Kirsty and Tracy. I had subscribed to your podcast some time ago but had not watched until last week. And I now have binge watched all of your episodes to date while recovering from my first bout of Covid. Thank you for keeping me company! So much enjoy when the both of you get to laughing!!!! I feel like I have learned so much in each podcast and you've peaked my creativity in thinking about color and yarn use, and new fiber crafts to trial. (Tracy I would totally purchase some of your bags if I resided in the UK!!!! Kristy you're pulling me closer into the world of trying spinning!!!!)
Happy New Year I absolutely agree I can’t stop with the bright colours and I know exactly why I like using them because they make me happy. Probably why I have lots of neon socks that advent calendar is just beautiful I’m also a loving it Knitting day Maxine, hot water bottle cover. I’m on my second and again I think it’s cause. I enjoy playing with colour and I’m lucky to live in the Lake District so I swim in the lake all year round including New Year’s Day , it does give you a great buzz.
Thanks Jenny! The bright colours are so much fun. Colourful hot water bottle covers are perfect for right now. Living in the lake district and going for winter swims sounds amazing! 😍
Happy New Year to you both. I enjoyed this episode so very much and loved all your finished projects. I agree with you that the brighter colours bring more joy in the planning and the knitting up and help to give your individual personality a voice. Although it can go against the grain, I too have discovered over the years that I need the neutral shades to help balance the more colourful garments/assessories. I admire those designers who offer the classic neutrals in stylish patterns but I grew up on Kaffe Fassett and his beautiful use of colour and love Marie Wallin's use of shetland colours in her wonderful patterns. The puppies were a delight and a real hoot to watch!! The jumper will be great over dyed.
Thanks so much Ruth! I agree Kaffe Fasset and Marie Wallens use of colour is amazing! I love the way they combine all the colours and it still ends up beautiful! 😍 Thanks for spending time with us! 💕
So nice to see you back lovely ladies. I don’t think you should change the colour on your metamorphic jumper Kirsty! If you look back over your previous podcasts I think you will find you have quite a bit of yellow and look great in it. ❤❤ I hope you both have a better year health wise. 🤩🥰😻
Tracy, it must be something to do with the name but I too am trying to use up all my scraps. Have been doing similar thing Cowls etc. I broke my wrist as as part of my recovery have making 4 round granny squares with an aim to make a 5th at somepoint and join them altogether. I have them all in a bag at the moment until I decide on the joining yarn. It will make a nice ramdon memory blanket
To get an even dye for your sweater you want the colour to take up slowly. Presoak the garment and use a large enough pot so there’s plenty of room. Then heat slowly with the jumper already in the pot, push down for even dispersal as it warms up rather than stirring until it steams not boils and when the water turns clear turn off the heat and leave to cool. Good luck love to see the result.
Kristy,,,,Forgot to say ,,,,I used to do some natural dyeing ,,,So maybe a onion skin dye bath would make ur sweater wearable,,,,though that green cowl you had on would go so well Just a thought,,, Elaine ⛄🏠💖
Great podcast, the dogs are fab! Really interested in how the jumper will dye 😊Had to order the yarn from Craft Bird, got the Pom Pom & pattern for that beautiful hat! Those colours 😁Neons, neutrals, who cares it’s all wonderful- fills the heart with joy 🤩 Thank you ladies 🎉🎉🎉
I’ve just discovered your fabulous channel!!! Absolutely loved every minute and ADORE the puppies! 😃 The Litmus cowl looks sensational- WOW! I’ve been joining in with the Stitches and Cream podcast KAL making the Porthallow Cowl, which is heaps of fun as you can ‘choose your own adventure’ with the 3 different texture sections. Happy knitting from Susie in Melbourne, Australia 😃🧶
You popped up at just the right time. I watch so many podcasts but had run out. I managed to finished a whole sleeve watching you...only a little jumper but a finished xx
Great to see you and all of your projects. A very special treat, as I had my afternoon free to knit. Love the dogs. Makes me laugh, go back and watch, your faces at times, looks like you’re watching a scary movie when you think the dogs will knock the tripod. Just makes it more fun. Love your metamorphic just as it is but I’m a green girl so I think that would look amazing. See you next time❤ Oh, not a rainbow girl but that Litmus cowl is stunning and yes I’d wear it. And the way your face lit up Kirsty, I’d say rainbows are still your love.
So happy to see you both. The pups have gotten so big. They are very beautiful. I could write pages about how much I love all the the knits and the yarns that you shared. The hats were so good. I loved the cardigan, I think it would look cute layered with a blouse and, since it's longer, with leggings. That Intarsia scarf....OMGoodness, it's sooo good. The scrappy cowl and socks were so fun. Kirsty, I think your idea for using the Sweet Shop blanket pattern for a scarf would be really lovely. The shawl that you are working on with the black and gold colors is stunning I love it. I just finished making Stephen West's Garter Squish blanket and I used two strands of Simply Soft (it's a acrylic fiber) it really is so squishy and I can just throw it in the washer. I'm working on Amy Palko's Coorie In Poncho, using Holst Garn Super Soft held together with Titticaca. Please take care of yourselves, there is a lot of sickness going around this winter.
Thanks so much! I love the coorie in Poncho, I may have to add that to my list. 😍 That's a great idea for the long cardigan with leggings 😊 Hope you are having a great start to your week! 💕
I say that every time I watch one of your podcasts and I will say it again: you are my favorite podcast. I love your projects, discussions, yarn, etc. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your personal life to podcast.
Happy New Year to you both, it's been so lovely to see you again and to catch up on all your makes. Bruno made me giggle wanting to see what Auntie Kirsty had been making 🤣🤣 Loving all of your FO's and WIP's, everything you both make is gorgeous. Hopefully see you again soon. Take care xx
When you said "Mandy" wwhile showing the pink yarn, I said "yes!". I spend way too much time on zoom 😂😂😂 That Nancy is a terrible bad influence with her neons 😂 xx
Thank you Kirsty and Tracey for your fun and interesting podcast. Love the chat and the projects. I really like that you don’t always use expensive yarn.
Knits n Pieces are doing a Mal. Think it's something like #makeavestgivesleevesarest I'm not a tank top person usually but think I may even make one this year 😊
Tracey, that green of your sweater....I am obsessed as well, found a good match on Hobbii in a viscose, linen and cotton blend which will be perfect for a summer top., eagerly awaiting its arrival. Kirsty, love all your spinning adventures, wish I could spin thicker yarn, mine always defaults to almost lace weight so you can imagine how long it takes to get a garments quantity, especially when I am starting from raw fleece. Very inspired by the fantail shell pattern, was pleased to see she had a video tutorial which then makes the pattern easier to read, I have a real problem following written crochet instructions as well.
That hobbit blend sounds perfect for a summer top! Ah yes lace weight will go on forever. Where I use the E spinner I change the speed settings which allows me to spin thicker. What amazing yarn you must have with processing the fleeces yourself too! 😍 Thanks for spending time with us! 💕
Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best. Lovely knits and I love that your puppies are so interested - perhaps they are wanting a cowl or a hat 🙂 Your sweater looked good to me on you. When you held it up - it also looked good with the green cowl you were wearing. How about just making a brighter coloured cowl to wear with it? Excellent show notes. Thank you for sharing and Take Care !
Happy New Year. Loved seeing everything. I agree. Neutrals are something I struggle with because even though I want the, I too don’t want necessarily to knit them especially when there’s so many things on my wish to knit list and limited time. Hope you both have a great couple of weeks. Loved seeing the pups. Take care.
Kristie, have you thought of tea staining the yellow metamorphic sweater? It could change the tone of the gold to a more brownish shade depending on the properties of the tea. My tips for dyeing are; Use a large pot for the dye pot so the entire sweater can be submerged, Use a bbq cooker outdoors to heat the dye bath, Make sure the sweater is wet thru and thru, Make sure the dye in the pot is completely dissolved, less dye is better, Turn the heat off and gently add the sweater, Cross fingers and wait. I can't wait to see how it works out!!
Soak the sweater in plain warm water and make sure its thoroughly wet. I agree with the above but I would dissolve the dye and then soak the sweater in a cold dye bath for a few hours, moving it every so often. Then heat slowly as above adding whatever mordant you're planning to use after the dye has mostly absorbed. X
Your two co-presenters deserve their own section! Bruno is clearly a yarn connoissuer! 😍😍 Kirsty those colours on both your hat and tee really suit you (and I've finally discovered, after watching Mandy knit dozens of them, that it's not called 'rocket tee' 🤣🤣🤣). And OMG Tracy, that Lyra hat!!! I can't stop drooling! Lovely to see you back ladies. Here's to a productive, but above all enjoyable, year of crafting! 🥰🥂🍻
Hello dear Kirsty and Tracey - I’ve been enjoying your lovely podcast for a little while now and I wanted to let you know how much I’ve been enjoying them - especially this one 😊 I love the variety of projects you complete and I enjoy hearing about your visits to yarn festivals etc - not that I can get to them 😢 I live in Tasmania, the little island state of Australia where we’re in the middle of Summer - not usually too hot here, though we did have 31 the other day - yuk! And thank you so very much for mentioning the Twinset and Purls podcast - I’ve started watching their latest episode and have downloaded the Edwina Cowl - I simply adore that pattern! Bye for now ❤
Love your podcast and was waiting patiently for this next instalment - so glad you're feeling better..... I know this might sound like a lame solution to your colour problem, but I think all you really need is something a warmer colour between the sweater and your face, something like the sophie scarf or similar around your neck with the dusty pink/ plum colours or the neutrals you showed.......
What a lovely long chatty episode! I was sad to see you go...I'm all bundled up under a blanket with my knitting ready to keep chatting with you ❤❤ Keep well and I can't wait to hang out with you again 😊
I would put your dye in a big pan but don't put any mordant and use cold water. Submerge your sweater and after you've moved it around and given it a good soak in the dye, then add some dissolved mordant and mix it well and then start to heat it up. It should be way more even in tone if you do it slowly like that and keep it moving around as it heats up. I think that might be your best bet!
😂 I love Bruno and him wanting to see the knitting and be on camera. You're going to have to set them up a seat beside/between you. I love Cockers, especially golden. Mum has an orange roan at the moment but her last girl Georgie was golden.
Kirsty- I have made the Rock-It Tee several times, with a number of modifications. I did the i- chord neckline on the first one but did not like it on the sleeves or hem so I ended up knitting ribbing. I am sorry you have not been feeling well and am happy to see you back.
If you check out Wool Needles Hands, Tayler overdyed 2 sweaters. I think the process and her episode provided a lot of good detail and the results on both sweaters looks really good. You might check it out to see if it provides info you can use on your Metamorphic.
Thank you ladies for such an entertaining and enjoyable video. You are both such wonderful knitters and it’s so good to see all your work. Glad to see the dogs getting in on the act today! Thank you too for some wonderful ideas for this years crafting plans! Stay warm ladies xx
Happy New Year for you two! I‘m so glad to see you again with all your amazing projects. I had the same problem with a curling icord at the hem - the best solution i found is to go down needle sizes, knitting a few rounds with smaller needles ,decrease some stitches and then cast off really tight. Tayler Earl ( the dyer behind „ Fiber for the people“) made a video how to overdye a sweater. Perhaps this is helpful… Greetings from Switzerland, Hanna
Happy New Year!! Kirsty I think your peachy toned handspun could look nice in a sweater with a green neckband, cuffs and hem. I think the colour is really nice but I see what you mean about it being close to your skin tone. I think putting a different colour between it and your skin with a different neckband and cuffs could help.
Thankyou ladies I love watching you, you keep me smiling and interested. You are both great. Would you be able to recommend a dk ladies cardigan I can knit. I’ve made three whitmore cardigans I think that’s enough, I like recommendations if you don’t mind please. Look forward to seeing you soon xxxxx LOVE THE PUPPIES ❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much Patricia 😁 I havnt knit any dk weight cardigans, I think the closest was the champagne cardigan by Petite knit. But I think that was worsted, I did enjoy that one. Thanks for spending time with us 💕
Ahh girls so good to see you back and most important feeling better 😊I loved the pups joining in and aww when they kissed you Tracey ❤how cute bless 😊😊
So nice to see you again. Just felt det need to help you with "Sandnes garn". I come from Sandnes and you dont say the D. Its more like "Sannes garn" 😊
Happy New Year! Such inspiration ladies, beautiful knits, spinning and colorwork . Thank you for the relaxing and informative show. The pups are pretty cute too.
Thanks for giving me a giggle Professor Kirsty! Love seeing all of your projects and I think you should both just embrace the fact that you love a lot of different colours. Knit what you enjoy and there will always be sometime that you can wear it:) Oh and loved seeing Bruno and getting kisses
What if you did that ohhh so what if you used the yarn created with vixen and butterscotch as a secondary in a color work sweater? I absolutely love the color ❤
Just found your podcast and enjoyed it a lot. I liked all of the projects you both had to show. I subscribed and will look forward to your next episode…🙂🧶…one last thing..I am curious as to what breed your dogs are…I have a golden doodle and thought they might be a breed related to a doodle, but can’t tell for sure…I was so entertained by their appearance and how they know how to steal the limelight!
Hi Kirsty, Would it be easier/less risky to knit a shawl or cowl in a flattering color to wear over the yellow sweater rather than over-dying the sweater?
My favorite quote from the whole episode: “You can’t fight neons.” 🤣😂🤣😂🧶 I could not agree more! 🙌🏻
🤣 They are just too fun! 😍
I love everything! I am working through some stash and my reward will be - more stash!🎉😂
Thank you! I love that, yes more stash as a reward 😁💕
this might turn into a book, but I have 3 things… #1 I am saving all of my fingering weight scraps for a giant granny square blanket with the very bits of yarn starting in the middle and gradually getting longer as I go, using the Russian Join method to attach; #2 After knitting colorwork with both hands for years, I now find my tension is much better using just my dominant hand; #3 I dyed two wool sweaters (separately) before using a 5-gallon bucket and stirring very slowly, no patches or felting. Thanks so much! I love all those ideas 😁 I definitely need to try a scrappy Russian join ball 💕
Need more Bruno and Ace ❤❤ as well 😂 as your lovely knits and thoughts!
Thank you! I'm sure they will be showing their beautiful faces again! 😁💕
Just love you girls and gorgeous doggies. Knitting is just the best. 😘😘😘
Thanks so much Julie! Yes I agree knitting is the best! 💕🤗❤️
The dogs are hilarious😂
Thank you for another great podcast. It was lovely to see Ace and Bruno again too ❤️❤️xx

Don’t dull your rainbow Kirsty. Xx
Thanks Ruth! I'm going to keep the rainbows! 😍
Happy New Year I absolutely agree I can’t stop with the bright colours and I know exactly why I like using them because they make me happy. Thanks so much! Hope you're having a great week 💕
Taylor Earl of Wool Needles Hand…she has overdyed a sweater. She is a yarn dyer. Hope that is helpful. Love your podcast. 😊
Thank you! Hope you are having a good start to the year! 💕
Cheers friends! So glad you’re both well and back at your knitting. Lovely projects and keep wearing all the rainbows!🎉
Thank you so much! We couldn't stop knitting and wearing rainbows, they are too much fun! 😂💕
I'm glad it's not just me who has dogs that like to join in with podcasts. On my last one he actually licks the lens 😂
🤣 They are sweethearts 😍
Happy New Year to you both. I enjoyed this episode so very much and loved all your finished projects. Just a thought,,,
Elaine ⛄🏠💖
That sounds interesting, I hadn't thought about natural dyeing. I expect onion skins would warm the yellow tones up a bit too. Thank you! 😁
Thank you Annie! Hope you have fun with your crafty bird yarn 😊 You are right about the colours, whatever makes us happy 😁💕

Kirsty, I think your idea for using the Sweet Shop blanket pattern for a scarf would be really lovely. The shawl that you are working on with the black and gold colors is stunning I love it.

Ah Thank you so much! 😊 It took me a while to realise it wasn't called the rocket tee too 🤣 Hope you are having a great time with your knitting! 💕
Bye for now ❤
Thanks so much for spending time with us Elizabeth! 😊 31 is too hot for me too 😂 Hope you have some fun projects to work on and are staying cool 😎💕
Love your rockit tee. I made mine with a split hem with about 1.5 inches of 1x1 ribbing.
Thank you! That sounds lovely with the split hem. 💕
Happy New Year ladies! Wonderful podcast. Love seeing all your knits. Looking forward to seeing you at Unravel xx
Thank you! Hope you're having a cosy calm January! Can't wait for Unravel! 😍
Thanks for spending time with us! That's a great idea, I think warmer colours are much better for me 😁💕
What a lovely long chatty episode! I was sad to see you go...I'm all bundled up under a blanket with my knitting ready to keep chatting with you ❤❤ Keep well and I can't wait to hang out with you again 😊
Ah thanks Nancy! Hope you are staying warm and having a great start to your week 🤗💕
Seems to be a lot of our mantras this year to work from stash, mine included! Xx
Ah yes! The difficulty is sticking to the plan! 🤣
Thank you so much that is very helpful! 😁💕
😂 I love Bruno and him wanting to see the knitting and be on camera.
You're going to have to set them up a seat beside/between you.
I love Cockers, especially golden. Mum has an orange roan at the moment but her last girl Georgie was golden.
They are so sweet! They want to join in and sniff all the wool! 🤣
Kirsty- I have made the Rock-It Tee several times, with a number of modifications. I did the i- chord neckline on the first one but did not like it on the sleeves or hem so I ended up knitting ribbing.
I am sorry you have not been feeling well and am happy to see you back.
Thanks Julia 😁 I think I will go for your ribbing idea on the next one, which I've already cast on. 💕
If you check out Wool Needles Hands, Tayler overdyed 2 sweaters. I think the process and her episode provided a lot of good detail and the results on both sweaters looks really good. You might check it out to see if it provides info you can use on your Metamorphic.
Thank you! 💕
Thank you ladies for such an entertaining and enjoyable video. You are both such wonderful knitters and it’s so good to see all your work. Glad to see the dogs getting in on the act today! Thank you too for some wonderful ideas for this years crafting plans! Stay warm ladies xx
Thanks Heather! 😊 Hope you are having fun with your knitting projects and future knitting plans 😁💕
Lovely to see you are feeling better. Thank you for sharing all your FO's and WIPS you have given me lots of inspiration.
Thank you! Hope you are working on some fun projects! 💕
Oh my word Tracy, the Colour of your Musselburgh 😍 I need it!
Those colours together are amazing! I think I need one too 😂
Ooh nooo I also had that covid in December and we did test positive. It was horrible
I hope you have fully recovered now and have had a good start to the year! 💕
Thanks so much Hanna, that's a great idea! I will try that with my next Rocket tee 😁 Thanks for the recommendation for the sweater overdyeing too! 💕
Hi girls. I loved seeing all of your things. Just found you and gone to the very beginning to binge 🥰
Thanks so much Annie! Hope you have fun! 💕
Thank you so much! I love that idea! Hope you're having a great weekend! 💕

Thank you! Hope you are having a great start to the year! 💕
Great to see you guys. Happy new year.love your podcast ❤
Thanks Deborah! Hope you've had a great start to the year! 💕
What if you did that ohhh so what if you used the yarn created with vixen and butterscotch as a secondary in a color work sweater? I absolutely love the color ❤
Thank you! I love that idea! 😍
You're so good at colourwork Kirsty. Such neat knitting 😍
Thank you! 😁
Thanks so much for spending time with us Anna! 😊 The puppies are both cocker spaniels 💕
Happy New Year Ladies! Hope Tracy was able to keep some of the socks she knit away from her mother.
🤣 Ah I love that! Hope your January is cosy and calm! 💕
Your peachy beige 500 gm would look great if you did a colourwork yoke in a deep Brown or black so it's not so close to your face.
Yes! 😀 That's I great idea thank you! I think I'll go for that plan! 💕
Hi Kirsty, Would it be easier/less risky to knit a shawl or cowl in a flattering color to wear over the yellow sweater rather than over-dying the sweater?
That's a great idea! And definitely less risky 😁 Thank you! 💕
Does that brown dog have a blonde wig on ?
😂 It really does look like a wig. Ace has a straight one and Bruno's is curly 😁
That is not a dog it's a lion.
🤣
