  • This is a gear breakdown of the Badlands 2200 hunting pack. Ian used this bag on every trip last season, and plans to use it for the 2017 season as well. It is a great bag, with plenty of storage for everything from day hiking, to packing in for a week long spike camp. #hunting #elkhunting #muledeer #deerhunting #badlands

    Love the 2200. I attaced two everything pockets to the face of the pack for more small pocket access. I also bought the 2L hydration bladder. For around $500 I'm set with a great BIG GAME hunting pack for life.

    I have this pack and love it. I've actually carried my rifle and bow at the same time. Holds everything I need to take into the wooods.

    I’d love to see how it looks with a full main compartment and a spotter in the pocket. Also how do you strap your bow to it when using the meat shelf?

      Unfortunately, we no longer have this pack. There are probably other resources out there which may show what you're looking for. Sorry about that!

    Nice looking pack. I'm currently carrying a Eberlestock Justone pack and I has been great but. I think I am going to change things up a little next year hunting. I'm thinking of going to no pack and back to old school knife on my belt and carry what I need in my Cabelas Big Game vest. I want to be more mobile. Yes I have walked 10 miles north of Salmon ID in some dam rough country with a pack. Why just like your 2200 and my Just One the weight of them just empty and the gun never feels right trying to shoot with pack on.
    Most days you never use the pack for hauling meat so why carry it.

      @SAHN  3 года назад +1

      While I too have had similar thoughts, I’d rather have a meat hauler 10 miles deep in the chance I harvest an animal, than not have a pack.
      I’ve made the switch to the Eberlestock F1 Mainframe frame and 2 Batwing pouches for a super lightweight and mobile setup. I can still carry the gear I need, without feeling overloaded. It also makes for a nice shooting rest in some situations. Video coming soon!

      SAHN OUTDOORS Yes while a Deer are possible to pack longer distance than Elk. If you think you are going to pack Elk long distance unless it's down hill you are kidding your self. Hire a packer as a lot to Outfitters in the area will pack game out for a fee. Worth the money. Even last year when I went to Alaska last year north of the Brooks range on a DIY hunt we were told game has to be picked up where we were dropped off in the tundra and were advised not to go more than 1-2 miles from where your dropped off. This is realistic, and like this year in Colorado my Friend shot a 5x5 elk the last day only 45m left of the day. Do you spend a Day packing and come home late loose 3 people a day's pay or pay a packer $ 350 Just saying. My advice always have a packer who you can call. Yes if this Elk was shot earlier in the season we could of packed it out but it was not. Having a packer lined up also allows you to venture further knowing you can get it out. TC

    Have you ever put elk sheds on the 2200? Looking for an all around pack but it has to be able to pack a few elk sheds

    • @SAHN
      @SAHN  6 лет назад

      Definitely!! This pack is a great day/weekend trip bag! You'll be able to haul a pile of sheds, along with your other hike essentials, all over the mountain with this pack!

    Having the meat load that far away from your body sounds awful. Don’t you want it as close as possible which is why a lot of packs allow you to put the meat again the frame between you and your pack?

    • @SAHN
      @SAHN  2 года назад

      Yes, ideally, you’d want it as close to the frame as possible, and the majority of the weight higher than lower for the most comfortable pack out possible. This pack isn’t really designed to carry a lot of weight.

    I noticed there are two plastic loops at the bottom of the pouch where he said he puts his tripod. What are those used for?

    Would it be alright to strap on some deer sheds on there

    • @SAHN
      @SAHN  5 лет назад

      Marty Clinger The pack can definitely handle packing a few sheds, if that’s what you’re asking.

    Would the spotting scope pocket fit a 85mm spotter?

    • @SAHN
      @SAHN  6 лет назад

      We don't believe so, although we haven't tried to fit an 85mm in that pocket. All spotting scopes are shaped a little differently from brand and size, but a 65mm Vortex Razor is snug.

    Have you ever packed out an elk with the 2200. I have that pack but it looks like it would be a brutal job with no real frame and only two aluminum stays

    • @VICSKIM949
      @VICSKIM949 7 лет назад +5

      I have, a hind quarter, heart, and liver. Plus all my winter mountain gear, and my rifle. You would be amazed how well this pack handles a 70lb+ load. The only thing it needs it a beefier lumbar support pad.

      I've used this pack for about 10 years now and pack out elk, deer, and antelope every year. I debone the meat and load in the main pocket inside a light garbage bag to keep the pack clean. This method keeps the meat weight close to your body and over your hips. I pack a light nylon stuff sack with me to put the contents of my pack into for when I have to pack meat. I strap my stuff sack full of personal gear to the outside with my bow or rifle and pack the first load to camp. This pack is a monster!

    • @SAHN
      @SAHN  6 лет назад

      pahuntnut, As these other folks have stated, you'll be surprised at what you can pack in this pack! That being said, you'll have to make multiple trips to pack out an elk, even if it's boned out. We recommend a larger pack for a dedicated meat hauling pack. You'll appreciate a pack that's designed for hauling heavy loads of meat, once you've hiked a mile or two!! If you've got some help to pack meat, this pack will work for a quarter and your gear.

      Brian Land The X2 is a great pack, but I’m a bigger guy and it does not fit me as well as the Badlands. The hip belt on the X2 is much to small and stiff in my opinion. The 2200 is a very comfortable pack I think you would like more than the X2, but every man has a different opinion.

      We have not compared the two packs. What are you wanting to do with your pack? Day trips? Weekend packs? Week long trips?
